The White Shadow was trained in Batman's training facility. Day after day for twelve hours a day she was jumping and climbing, fighting and learning. Her suit was completely different from Batman's and one major difference was that she couldn't fly like a bat. Her cape wasn't made for any air activities but she got twice many bat ropes (in white color) that Batman. Using them was hard and first fifty times she felt on the ground of a training facility. But slowly the idea started to come up and she learned that those ropes weren't for flying they were for preventing from falling. When she figured this out the training started to progress and yet they were short in time.
On the third day of training after it was finished and she was about to take a suit off he stopped her.
-We have to check a sewer again. - said Batman. - I found chemical's tracks in there but couldn't find where he stored those chemicals. We are running out of time I feel it.
-Oh well I guess after twelve hours of training a sewer is going to be refreshing. - she answered.
-I went to the sewerage from the river side and walked north. Here is a map of my walk. - he displayed a map in the air in front of The White Shadow. - I missed something in there and walked out next to Arkham Asylum.
The White Shadow was examining the map looking for different ways.
-What is here? - she pointed on one place in the map where one tunnel was closed by another.
-There is a subway system and this tunnel is for train it goes through couple of tunnel stopping then and those are no longer operating.
-But it continues here after the subway and gets cut off by another subway tunnel, right? So, is it a pocket between subway tunnels?
-It is but there is no entrances from an old sewer tunnel to a subway tunnel.
-Why? I mean.. did you see that there is no entrance?
-No, I actually didn't see it for myself but the map doesn't show any. I see your point now. You think there is an entrance to the subway tunnel and there is an exit from it what leads to that pocket.
-Correct.
-We should check it out before the sunrise. Let's go.
The White Shadow was tired but intrigued in the same time so she followed Batman. The Batmobile was waiting for them.
The White Shadow still didn't have any clue where she was training and living because every time they left and came back through a different tunnel but it was somewhere in the City of Gotham.
That night was dark and quiet mostly because the air quality got so bad for the last month that people even the bad once didn't want to go outside without a real reason for it. Green smog was curling in the alleys of Gotham, swerving on the streets and avenues creating chunky clouds of yellow reek.
-Is the city going to do anything about it? It's dangerous. I don't know but it feels like soon you will have nobody to fight with. - said The White Shadow.
-There is always somebody to fight with. - was his answer.
She didn't know but Wayne Enterprise was already on top of this research. The laboratories worked non stop to figure out why the pollution doesn't leave the island. The chemical results was there everyday and Bruce Wayne had a very difficult conversation with a mayor the other day.
-Sir. It's a mayor's office. - said Alfred on the phone.
-I got it, thank you, Alfred. - said Bruce Wayne sitting in his big office chair with a video call on the huge computer screen.
-Hello, gentlemen. - said a strong voice. - Mayor of the city of Gotham, Kelly Fisher.
-Good afternoon, gentlemen. - skinny face appeared in the middle of the screen. - I'm glad that all of you made in to my video conference.
It was a video conference which the mayor's office proposed as an emergency meeting for the Maecenas of Gotham City.
There were some pleasant trees said from the total number of twelve people on the screen, including Bruce Wayne.
-I start with an extremely hard news. The city government doesn't have enough people, gentlemen. In the light of all those murders of city workers I received more information from the chief of Police Mr. Gordon. There are much more murders than we thought.
The light whisper was heard from the screen, people were surprised.
-Yes. I had a meeting with him yesterday and he seems very positive about this new branch of murders which looked like suicides. Apparently they are all made by one person and this man is dangerous. Unfortunately this information leaked to the press and on today's morning I have a report that fifty five thousands city workers quit.
Batman was the one who talked to James Gordon showing him his investigation process and evidences that led to a discovery of the message on the city map. He suggested to James Gordon to talk to the mayor and got him prepared to what could come next. But he didn't know about the leak to the press, somebody but not Gordon gave that info to the press causing chaos in the city government.
-Yes, gentlemen. Fifty five thousands and this number was on my morning report, I am terrified to learn how many more quit by the end of the day. Also that pollution problem… I know Mr. Wayne you have some news for me on this topic?
-Yes, Sir, I do. - answered Bruce and eleven pairs of eyes stared at him from the screen. - My laboratories keep giving me unsatisfied results about the air quality also we are going to the winter season and the wind as we know that always circles around the island without changing. At this point I have a couple solutions first, to advise citizens on wearing masks and use special oxygen inhalers produced by Wayne Med Farm and we more then agree to give them for free to everyone in need, I suggest free stations in every public place where people can pick them up at any time of the day or night. Second, advise people to leave the city if they have an opportunity because we still can face some medical issues caused by the pollution and the third one, maybe, just maybe we can open the air corridor for the jets to break wind circles and spray nontoxic for humans, animals and plants break fluid. I can go on with the abbreviation of the break fluid but basically this fluid consists molecules which will break the toxic pollution during the reaction but in order to do so the molecules has to be in the polluted air.
Bruce Wayne believed in his city and always was very open with his help the same way his father did before him. That online conversation was about an hour long and after that the mayor himself was talking to Bruce Wayne one on one. He agreed on every point with Bruce but not the jets one.
-I can't open the air corridor for jets it's not in my power you know. It's federal government and I'm not about to go in this rabbit hole but the city will accept any of your help Mr. Wayne but you know my biggest concern is the government workers. I don't know how that information leaked to the press but it's a chaos I am pretty sure people will start leaving soon enough. The city without government workers will go down, the police, the infrastructure, medics and then we will have protests, riots, more murders, panic! I'm terrified telling the truth Bruce.
-Sir, if we provide a safe environment for people they will support the city, also about the city workers maybe you could provide them with a payable leave if they want to quit in this case they will stay at government positions and when it's over and I'm sure James Gordon will hunt this crazy man down, people will be back to work.
They talked for forty more minutes and then the call was over.
Batman thought about that conversation and hoped that the mayor took Bruce Wayne's advice. Looking out of the window The White Shadow knew that pollution wasn't the regular one but she needed a proof and hoped they could find it underground.
