CHAPTER 21
Adam was lying on the bed on his stomach. His butt was still sore and though after he had talked to Sam , he had calmed down a bit but it still doesn't mean that he wasn't angry at Dean. Dean didn't need to spank him, 'Why can't the man just grounded him instead ?'. He was startled from his thoughts by a knock on the door followed by a loud yelling of "Adam…". He immediately recognised the voice of DJ and couldn't help but feel guilty for ratting out the kid earlier. He hissed in pain when he attempted to sit so he decided to stand instead.
"Adam, Unca Dean called you for dinner." DJ said smiling. Adam had thought that DJ wouldn't talk to him so he was glad seeing that DJ wasn't only talking to him but he was smiling at him too.
Adam made his way towards the kid a little slowly to avoid the fabric of his sweatpants rubbing against his throbbing backside.
"I am sorry kiddo for complaining about you playing inside with your ball to Sam and Dean." Adam said sadly. He really felt guilty for trying to put the blame on DJ.
"Its okay. It was my fault but daddy said that I learned my lesson like a good boy so I have to worry no more." DJ said smiling at Adam.
Adam smiled and couldn't help himself from hugging DJ. He really liked DJ. The kid who though technically should be his nephew was like a little brother to him that he never had but always wanted. The kid is freaking adorable. He didn't know what possessed him earlier to get DJ in trouble. But he would be sure to avoid that in future.
"Comeon , Adam. Daddy said Unca Dean brought icecream." DJ said tugging at Adam's arm and Adam allowed himself to be pulled by the little kid.
Sam was setting the table when he saw DJ running towards him while Adam following slowly behind. He smiled at Adam and was pleased to note the kid returning his smile.
"Hey kiddo where's the fire ?" Dean said grabbing a running DJ.
"I dunno. I will go look." DJ said nodding his head seriously.
Sam snorted and noticed Adam trying to stifle a chuckle through a cough to resume his scowling at Dean. He shook his head. Adam was a stubborn kid , he had to be as he was a Winchester. And the problem was Dean was one stubborn Winchester too. He figured that whether he likes it or not , more than often he had to play the role of a refree for his younger and older brother.
"It's a saying , little man. Lets eat first." Dean shook his head at the kid's innocence and gently steered DJ towards the kitchen table. DJ's innocence reminded him of a young Sam and he smiled.
Dean's eyes fell on Adam who was openly glaring at him. And if looks could kill then he would be a dead man by now. He accepted this behaviour from Adam but he felt his temper rising a bit at the kid. 'Damn, the kid was stubborn !' Yelling at Adam would not help so he tried to keep himself calm. He prayed to whoever was above to grant him enough patience to deal with Adam.
Adam sat on the wooden chair. He winced when his rear made contact with the hard wood. It hurts and well not that bad as earlier but enough to make him squirming uncomfortably. Dean had made sure to give special attention to his sit spots and upper thighs and he could just feel it now. All the guilt that he was feeling earlier for being rude to Dean vanished the moment he sat.
Dean looked at Adam and tried to ignore his squirming. He knew he had done nothing wrong by punishing the kid for his mistake but he still felt bad. He didn't want Adam fidgeting through the entire time they had dinner. So he made his way to his room and came back carrying a pillow.
"Here, sit on it." Dean said handing Adam the pillow he had brought. Adam looked up in surprise at Dean. But he took the pillow and sat on it. And god did it help. It helped a lot. It was much better than sitting on the unforgiving hard wood. But it didn't stop his smart mouth from making a comment.
"Nice, first hurt someone and then pretend to care. Motherfucker." He muttered under his breath and then cursed at himself for forgetting Dean's super hearing powers.
Dean was just about to sit when he heard Adam. His blood boiled and he took a couple of deep breaths and then finally sat.
Sam rubbed his face tiredly. He knew Dean would not let it slide. And if he was in Dean's place he wouldn't either. Adam really should know when to keep his mouth shut. The kid should be apologising and here he was mouthing off. Sam looked at Dean worriedly waiting for his reaction. He calmed down a little when he saw Dean taking a seat which meant that he didn't have to place himself physically between Adam and Dean , atleast for now.
"Adam has got a pillow so I want one too, Daddy." DJ said ignorant to the staring match currently happening between Dean and Adam.
"Stand up, Adam." Dean spoke in a voice that brooks no argument with his jaw clenched tightly and his eyes narrowed.
Adam wanted to argue but one look at Dean told him that it wouldn't be the wise choice at the moment. He stood with his arms crossed glaring at Dean. A defiant expression firmly on his face.
"Give your pillow to DJ." Dean said in a hard tone.
Adam looked at Dean like the man had grown two heads and shook his head. "He doesn't need it as much as I do. He can get another." Adam said.
"Consider it your punishment for being disrespectful yet again. You will sit without it. Now hand it to him." Dean said trying hard to be patient.
Sam shook his head but this time he didn't interfere. Swearing at adults for a mistake you had made was quite unacceptable in his books. Dean was being far patient with Adam than he used to be with him. He would have to sit on a stinging butt cleaning weapons or running laps around the motel parking lot and still he wouldn't dare complaint not because he was scared of Dean, alright he was a little bit but more than that he knew he was being punished for a mistake he had made and not because Dean was enjoying doing so. The kid was given time to rest and a pillow to sit and still Adam wasn't sorry. He could see that Adam had maybe learnt his lesson about lying but it would take a lot of time to teach him to show respect and follow orders.
"Nope." Adam said. He knew he was pushing Dean's limits but he didn't care. Why should DJ gets his pillow when he was the one with a sore bottom ?
"Adam, do it." Sam said trying to be stern. But the kid wasn't even looking at him. He was glaring at Dean. Sam noticed that DJ who being a toddler had taken his time but now even he looked aware of the tension at the table. But while Sam was watching the whole exchange between his older and younger brother worriedly , DJ was watching it curiously. The expression on DJ's face was similar to the one he had everytime he watched a movie. And that made Sam smile but he quickly hid it.
"Did I give you an expression that I was asking you ? I am ordering you to do it." Dean said his voice sharp as steel which made Adam winced.
Adam was pretty angry himself and in his anger he threw the pillow which hit the roasted chicken resting at the middle of the table to fall on the ground. He looked wide eyed at Dean in fear who stood so fast from his chair that the whole table shook. He was angry but he didn't mean to ruin everyone's dinner like that. He looked at Sam pleadingly to save him from Dean.
Sam looked at the ruined chicken at the floor and then at Adam's scared face. Adam who was avoiding looking at him earlier to glare at Dean was now looking pleadingly at him and Sam didn't need to know the reason behind it.
"Adam Miligan Winchester." Dean yelled taking a step towards Adam. Adam jumped from his voice.
"I am sorry. I didn't mean to. It was a mistake." Adam said desperately trying to placate Dean. But Dean looked like he could burst with anger at any moment.
"Did you or did you not throw the pillow ?" Dean demanded in a commanding tone.
"Sir I…" Adam tried to explain but Dean interrupted him with a firm, "I want only 'yes' or 'no' answer coming from your mouth for this question."
"Did you throw the pillow ? If I have to repeat myself then you will regret it, kid." Dean said and added the last part when Adam didn't reply.
"Yes sir." Adam replied quietly. He was glad for Sam to stand next to him and didn't mind him holding his arm.
"Why ?" Dean asked his tone hard enough to cut through steel.
"I was angry, sir." Adam replied looking at the floor.
'If only he would have been this respectful earlier all of this wouldn't have happened.' Thought Sam. He noticed Adam holding his arm and he squeezed Adam's shoulder gently. Adam made a mistake but he was still a kid and Sam felt the need to assure him. He felt another little hand fisted at the back of his tshirt and he looked down at his son who was watching Dean with fear.
"Its okay , buddy." Sam whispered soothingly to DJ who relaxed a little.
"I am scared for Adam, daddy." DJ whispered back and Sam nodded.
"Why were you angry ?" Dean asked raising his eyebrows.
Adam didn't understand why Dean was asking the questions to which he already knew the answers of but he was already in deep trouble as it is. So he decided to answer each question as respectfully as he could.
"Because you were asking me to give the pillow to DJ when I needed it more, Sir." Adam replied still studying the floor. He tried to maintain eye contact with Dean but he couldn't.
Dean nodded and continued , "Now why did I asked you to do that ?"
Adam swallowed his suddenly dry throat but answered, "I was being disrespectful, Sir." He was really feeling sorry.
"Nope not an accurate answer. What did you call me ?" Dean asked. He could see on the kid's face that he was guilty and he knew that Adam didn't mean to ruin dinner. It was an honest mistake but Adam needed to learn a lesson.
"Please sir , I am sorry. I really didn't mean to ruin everyone's dinner like that." Adam said. It was one thing to swear at Dean behind his back but to say that to his face was a different deal completely. He could feel his cheeks flaming with embarrassment.
"I don't want your sorry. What did you call me ?" Dean asked in a calm yet firm voice.
Adam didn't reply. "Adam Miligan Winchester." He flinched at the use of his full name by Dean.
"If you weren't embarrassed to call me that earlier , you shouldn't be embarrassed now either. So tell me or else …." Dean didn't finish his sentence. He figured he didn't need to and he was right.
"M-motherfucker." Adam whispered real softly. It was a real bad word to call an adult especially when they were being nice to you after you had made a mistake or in general it was a bad word which should not be used. He understood that now and he was feeling ashamed.
"Right. Did I do something wrong for punishing you for using that word ?" Dean asked his voice a little less hard because he could see that he was now getting through Adam.
"No sir. I deserved it. I am really sorry." Adam said and this time , it was true. He was sorry. He didn't like Dean spanking him but then who in the world likes being punished. Punishments are supposed to be the ones that you hate. Dean knew that he hated spanking and that's why he punished him like that. And he still behaved like a brat even after being punished.
"You will clean this mess and before bed you will clean the kitchen and wash the dishes too. Now can I trust you to take this punishment or should I be worried for you to breaking the plates in anger or something ?" Dean asked. He was feeling angry but more than that he was tired. Adam was a nice kid but like him he also fails to control his temper sometimes. And he could see how this would be a problem.
"Yes sir. You can trust me." Adam replied and it hurt him that now because of his behaviour , he couldn't even be trusted to accept his punishment.
Dean didn't say anything to him. He didn't even nod and just turned to Sam. And it hurt Adam. He could see that Dean was still angry which made him feel worse.
"Sammy , you can order for you and kids from the new chinese restaurant. Its pamphlet is in the kitchen drawer below the sink. I'll be in my room. Don't order anything for me , I am not hungry." Dean said and with that he made his way towards his room.
Dean was a big foodie so for Dean to refuse food like that spoke volume about the man's mood. Adam had really hurt Dean. He wanted to cry but more than that he wanted to run after Dean and apologize to him.
"You can start with the cleaning , Adam. The cleaning supplies are in the store room." Sam said and though he didn't mean to but he sounded a lot stern.
"Yes sir." Adam said to Sam. It was the first time that Sam had sounded so stern to him. 'Great now he had managed to make Sam angry too.' He had destroyed everyone's evening. A few tears escaped his eyes and he wiped them hastily and made his way to pick up the cleaning supplies. No time for crying , he needed to atleast complete his punishment and then he would apologise to everyone.
