Chapter 27
"Dean James Winchester. You better listen to me." Sam hollered down the hallway as he ran after his son. When he finally caught up with him thanks to his long legs because the kid could run like a damn ninja. He sat on the couch placing DJ besides him.
"You don't argue with me, young man." He said with his father's voice coming out in full force as he looked his son straight in the eyes.
"But I wasn't arguing." DJ said or more like whined as he tried to free himself from the iron grip that his daddy had on his arm. There was no way DJ could free his arm from Sam's grip unless Sam decides to let it go. Because between an almost four year old and his twenty six year old daddy , you all know who would have more strength. But Kudos to the kid for trying. Sam could appreciate the effort, alright.
"Yes, you were arguing." Sam said sternly.
"No I wasn't." DJ said. And this time Sam had to roll his eyes because apparently parenthood is like your child arguing with you about how he wasn't arguing with you. Okay , that sounds really weird but it sounded better the first time he had thought about it. Now back to present.
"Whats going on in here ? Sam, what did you do ? Hey, is that DJ's underwear in your hand ? Why are you waving it like a damn flag ?" Dean asked interrupting the circular argument between the father and son.
" 'Dang' Dean not 'Damn.' " Sam corrected him making air quotes with his fingers which always looks like a bird's claws to Dean and are always funny to watch. Dean laughed a little but quickly shut up when he got a serious look from Sam.
"Why don't you ask DJ ? And hey what did you meant by 'Sam, what did you do' ? I am the father here not DJ , you know." Sam replied sullenly. If he sounded like a petulant child so be it. His head was throbbing and he was cranky. Maybe he should have listened to Dean earlier. He needs to rest and take it easy. He was spending a lot of his time with his head buried in his laptop to make the website for their business. But once the website was ready then he could rest. And now DJ being stubborn wasn't helping at all and especially the reason that he got into an argument with his son this morning was so ridiculous that he wanted to just bang his head and kinda wanna laugh at the same time.
Dean rolled his eyes at his brother and instead focused all his attention on his nephew.
"What happened kiddo ? Whats with this angry look , huh ?" Dean asked placing himself on the coffee table in front of the couch so he was looking at DJ in the eyes.
"Unca Dean , we should always save our time. Right ?" DJ asked looking at his uncle with a hopeful expression and just a hint of a smirk. And that smirk was so similar to Dean it was kinda scary. When Sam named his son 'Dean' it was with a hope that DJ would get all the good qualities of his brother but maybe , he should have thought about other not so good qualities too. For example , Dean's cockiness. If DJ would turn out to be even an ounce of as cocky as Dean was he would have his hands full.
DJ was sure his uncle would definitely take his side on this. His daddy was wrong. Now if he could convince his uncle then he would help him convince his daddy.
"Yeah." Dean replied looking at Sam for help or even to get a clue as to where this whole conversation was going. Because that expression on the kid's face was a sure sign for trouble. He couldn't help but wanted to just go over where Sam was standing and smack him upside his head. Because the moron wasn't even looking at him. Sam had been in this sullen mood since the past few days. He was overworking himself what with spending most of his time in front of his laptop and the rest looking after DJ. If Sam even so as try to go near his laptop today, Dean would tie him to his bed.
"Why do I wear underwear if I don't need them ? When I gotta go pee , I have to take my pants and then my underwear off. It wastes my time. So I don't wanna but daddy says I have to. But I am right ?" DJ asked looking at Dean. He was looking so hopeful and adorable that Dean had to try really hard to not laugh so as not to hurt the kid's feelings. But damn , oops dang , if it wasn't one of the most ridiculous question if he ever heard one. He took a deep breath to try and keep his laughter at bay. And once he was calm enough , he looked at DJ and said ,
"Well , you are right. It is a hardwork but still you have to wear your underwear though. You know your jeans and other clothing can cause itching and you don't want them , right ?. You don't wanna look like a monkey always scratching at yourself. So be a good boy and listen to your daddy."
DJ wasn't happy with his uncle for not taking his side and he wanted to protest but one stern look from his uncle was enough to change his mind. "I don't like monkeys." DJ said scrunching his face in an adorable pout. Dean chuckled patting the kid's head.
"Good , now listen to your father."
"Alright , you can go play now. And don't you dare take them off because I am gonna check , okay ?" Sam asked buttoning DJ's jeans and patting his back.
"When are you gonna check ?" DJ asked his little face full of innocence. But Sam knew better to be fooled by that.
"It wouldn't do good if I tell you now would it ? Go play with your toys." Sam said a bit exasperated. He was loosing his patience. Raising a kid was hard and he didn't understand how he used to manage before Dean.
"Okay." DJ replied before running down the living room.
"Thanks man. I'm gonna go work for the website." Sam said standing and stretching to work out the kinks in his back.
"Oh no you won't. Sit your ass down." Dean pointed a finger when Sam opened his mouth , "There are no little ears around so I can say ass as much as I want."
"You said a bad word , Unca Dean." DJ called out from down the hall. Sam raised an eyebrow and as usual Dean ignored it and instead called back a stern ,
"How many times have I said eavesdropping is bad ?" When he got no reply aside from some mumbling he said ,
"I can't hear you."
"Lots of time." DJ said quietly coming out from the corner he was hiding.
"And what happens to the kids who don't obey ?" Dean asked crossing his arms across his chest with voice still hard ,
"They get punished." DJ replied in a small voice. His eyes big and full of fear. He was giving the patented Sam Winchester's puppy dog look. And Dean tried to remain stern but dang it , it was hard ,
"It is your last chance. If I found you eavesdropping again. You are going to be punished , alright ?"
"Yes sir." DJ replied nodding his little head vigorously to show he was serious and Dean waved him off ,
"Now go play or better yet annoy Adam." DJ ran as if his pants were on fire , the kid was probably glad to escape punishment and Dean turned his attention back towards Sam.
"Since the little monkey is now out annoying the older monkey. I can say this 'What the hell is wrong with you ?"
Sam looked at him blankly. His face a pure picture of innocence just the same as his kid before. But Dean knew better. You know , knowing your little brother inside out is kinda part of a job description for a big brother. So , he raised an eyebrow and just waited.
"You know the website needs some more work." Sam said meekly shrugging his shoulders. When Dean's glare sharpened he swallowed. He knew he was going to get a stern lecture and there was no way to avoid it. He knew he was overexerting himself. But once the website is ready then he could rest. It could be so good for their business. Money wasn't exactly tight in the Winchester's household but since they have two kids to look after now , a little extra money wouldn't hurt.
Maybe Sam could run to his room and lock the door , his laptop is already inside so he could work from there. But even as he was thinking about it he knew there was no way in hell he would do something like that. When he was a kid he had once tried to run from Dean when he was about to be punished and ofcourse Dean had caught up with him. He had then been given twenty hard swats on his bottom and was ordered to run forty laps around the parking lot of whatever shit hole motel they were staying at that time. And it didn't end there he had also gotten a spanking on his already sore behind before bed that night so he wouldn't dare run from Dean again especially when he was about to be punished. And man that lesson had stuck with him to this day.
"I don't give a shit about the damn website. Its not like we are under the water or something. Website could wait. But have you looked at yourself in a mirror , lately ? You look like a zombie. And not any zombie but one who looks even worse than the other zombies. You have big dark circles under your eyes that makes you look like a fifty year old with the burden of the whole damn world on his shoulders. You spend all your time in front of your laptop. You don't eat with us and you stay cooped up in your room. This all stops now. I swear to God , Sam if I see you in front of your laptop today at anytime for any reason , I'm gonna tie your hands behind your back for the rest of the day. Now , I am gonna go to the garage to work but don't you dare think for a moment that I won't be watching you. " Dean paused taking a deep breath before speaking again.
"You will go to your room , turn off the lights and go to sleep. I will wake you later for lunch. Don't you dare leave the room before that. Now , do I make myself fucking clear ?"
"Yes sir." Sam replied meekly and quickly turned to go back to his room. Dean had a way of making him feel like a little kid even though he was an adult with a kid of his own. He entered his room and looked at his laptop for a moment and then looked over his shoulder but quickly changed his mind. Dean would definitely tie his hands. He wouldn't put it past him because Dean wasn't the one to make empty threats. Besides , he really needed to look after himself. It wouldn't be fair to Dean to look after Adam and DJ all on his own. Dean had already done a lot more than he needed to eversince Sam had started living with his brother. The least Sam could do was make sure he didn't end up sick and became a burden to his brother. He sighed and made his way to his bed to get a much needed nap.

Dean smiled looking in the direction of Sam's now dark room. 'Still got it.' He thought smirking softly before making his way outside. He was relieved that Sam would get some much needed rest. He didn't need another sick little brother on his hands. Handling Adam for the last few days had been enough for him.
"DJ , I am not interested. Come on , man. Go play with your dad." Adam was sitting on the porch glued to his mobile phone as usual playing angry birds or some candy crush or whatever the hell that is. Stupid games with more stupid names.
"Yeah , about that. Finally , Sam is taking a much needed break from the website he was working on which means that neither of you are allowed to disturb him." Dean said coming to stand beside the kids.
"But I'm bored , Unca Dean. Adam is not playing with me." DJ whined and Adam glared at him. It was a tough level he was on. He didn't mind playing with DJ. But sometimes its not much fun. Adam was twelve and DJ was four. It was a lot of age difference right there. He was much happy playing on his mobile phone. But apparently , Dean had different plans for him.
"Adam , you are spending too much time on the mobile phone , kid. It is not healthy. Why don't you boys play catch ?" Dean would talk to Sam about Adam's education. The kid has too much free time on his hands. So ofcourse he is gonna spent that time being glued to his mobile phone. He didn't want Adam to waste more time than he already had. When Adam didn't look up from his mobile phone and didn't even acknowledge his presence whatsoever Dean sighed tiredly.
"Adam ! Look at me." Dean ordered sharply and when he had Adam's full attention , he began ,
"I am fixing a screen time for you starting from today. A kid your age needs some physical activity. You have already spent about 4 hours on your mobile since you woke up and that's too much. So hand over your phone and play some outdoor sport. You will not get it back until after dinner."
Adam looked up at Dean and then at his phone. He knew there was no way he could get his phone back until evening if Dean had said so. It was DJ's fault. If he hadn't opened his mouth in front of Dean then this wouldn't have happened. It wasn't his responsibility to amuse the kid. He had his own life.
"I don't have all the day." Dean said looking at Adam pointedly. Adam slammed the phone hard on his outstretched palm and he raised an eyebrow.
"I am gonna pretend that didn't happen. But if you know what is good for you. You will play some physical sport and will not make too much noise so as not to disturb Sam." Dean ordered looking at DJ at the last part.
"Yes sir. Come on , Adam. Let's play." DJ said bouncing up and down in his place and tugging at Adam's sleeve to get him moving.
Adam was angry. He didn't want to play with DJ. Dean took his phone away so that he could entertain DJ while Sam gets his beauty sleep. And that's so not fair. DJ wasn't his responsibility. He waited until Dean was out of sight before snatching his arm away from the kid.
"I am not gonna play with you. " Adam snapped at DJ and stood up turning away from him and making his way to the back of the house.
"But Unca Dean said to play catch." DJ tried to convince Adam running after him with his ball in his hand.
"No , he said to play. He didn't said anything about playing with you." Adam stopped and glared at DJ. When DJ was about to open his mouth to say something , he snatched the ball from DJ's hand and threw it as far as he could which was outside their fenced property. DJ's face began to quiver with big tears falling down his cheeks. Adam turned away to ignore it and made his way to the tyre swing that Dean had set up for them at the corner of the property.
