Hey all, I really don't have anything to say except that I can't believe this took me two weeks to get right. We're winding down to the end now, only a couple more chapters and maybe an epilogue but I do have the last lines of the story, and I've had them since the beginning (which was three years ago which is like 'holy shit') and I can't wait to share them with you!
Anyways, you know the drill. I own nothing and all that jazz.
Stay Perfect!~
As Astrid watched the rain drip down the window of her childhood room, she couldn't help but long for Hiccup to be next to her.
But she had the right to leave. She had the right to be pissed off at him.
"Camicazi kissed me!" was echoing in her head as she stared out her window.
Maybe this would be good for them, having some time apart. They had been spending every waking moment together since she found out she was pregnant.
Astrid put her hand over her stomach at that thought. Maybe she shouldn't have ran home, all the way back to Minnesota. But she can't help but wonder if their relationship was all about running away from the past.
Hiccup ran first, she couldn't help but think. He was the first guy she has truly slept with and he ran away from her. She had tried to stop him from going, begging him, crying for him. He still left.
She tried to reason that, he went to help kids in the same situation as he was in. He was eighteen when he lost his leg, and he thought that was the end of the world. Hiccup hated the thought of anyone younger losing limbs. He didn't leave to be a dick.
But, the other side of her brain was telling her that he still left. He still fucking left and he did it again after Ruff and Fishlegs' wedding. It was her turn to run and hide. It was her turn to hurt him.
Although, the thought of hurting him made her heart ache.
"Astrid… it's your mother. Can I come him."
Astrid blinked a few times in surprise. It took her a couple of seconds to remember that she was actually in her childhood home willingly.
"Yeah, come on in mom." Astrid said, getting off of her bay window bench and watched her mother walk into her room.
"Hiccup called again."
Over the last seventy two hours, Hiccup had called her house 156 times, called her cellphone fifty six times, texted her forty times and even e-mailed her twice.
"Tell him nothing." Astrid said
"I know, Astrid." Julianna Hofferson sighed and sat on her daughter's bed.
"Mom, I'm not going to talk to him."
"When I was in college," Julianna started "your father and I took a break. Aria was almost three and we had been together since freshman year of high school." Astrid winced at the mention of her older sister. "I just wanted to explore my options, I guess. We went through something similar to what you and Hiccup are going through."
"Mom, he kissed someone else."
"You told me she kissed him."
"It still happened!" Astrid covered her face "He was the one person who wasn't supposed to let me down, you know."
"I know."
Astrid bit her lip and rubbed her expanding stomach. "Mom, why are you being so nice to me?"
Julianna picked at some invisible dust on the blanket next to her. "Because… I know I wasn't the best mother that I could have been, but after Aria…" Her mother paused, taking a shaky breath before continuing "After Aria died, I felt a piece of myself had died too."
"How do you think I felt? I was there! I was in the car! I should have died too! Hell, I wanted to die!" Astrid closed her eyes and whispered in a small voice "I still want too…"
Julianna closed her eyes. No mother, no matter how horrible, wants to hear that her child wants to die.
"I'm broken!" Astrid suddenly shouted "There's too many broken pieces to fix!"
"You are not broken, Astrid." Julianna stood up
"YES I AM!"
Jack walked into the room "What's with all the yelling?" He asked
"Jack, will you tell our daughter that she is not broken!" Julianna yelled, tears streaming down her face in satly rivers.
Jack walked over to his daughter and held her close. Astrid gripped his shirt, sobbing uncontrollably. "Calm down, my little warrior, think about your baby." Jack whispered
"Why did Hiccup have to go and fuck everything up like he always does." Astrid asked, voice muffled by her father's shirt.
"I-I don't know, Astrid." Jack kissed the top of her head and just held her close.
Hiccup looked at the empty bottles in front of him. Toothless was whining at his feet, but he barely heard the black lab. It had been seventy four hours, thirty two minutes, and twenty five seconds since Hiccup came home and found out that Astrid had up and left him.
Not that he blames her or anything.
If anything, he blames himself. And his own fucking stupidity.
No wonder he has the nickname of Hiccup, he is a hiccup. He screws everything up. He has since high school.
Hiccup took another swig of beer, letting the bitter taste slid down his throat. Hiccup checked his watch, noting that it had been seventy two hours, thirty three minutes and fourteen seconds since Astrid left and he's still as broken as he was when he realized she left.
Hiccup stood up, swaying a bit. He doesn't deserve Astrid, he never has. Maybe she was better off without him, maybe she wasn't.
Maybe they needed this separation, they had spent every moment together for the past four months. Maybe he should sort out his feelings for Astrid and Cami before making an informed decision.
Ah, who was he kidding. It was Astrid, it's always been Astrid. She was the one who stood by him since they met. She always said that he saved her, but in reality, she saved him.
He just didn't realize it until he lost her for good.
"Scarlett, really. I'm okay. I just… I need to get away for a bit." Astrid said as she laid in her bed. She was holding her phone close to her ear with her right hand and using her left hand to caress her stomach. "The baby is okay."
"What do you want me to tell Hiccup anything?"
"NO!" Astrid yelled, then took a deep breath "I mean, no. Please, I just need a little space."
"Can you at least tell me where you are?" Scarlett asked
"If you don't tell Hiccup."
"Oh my life." Scarlett promised
"I'm at my parents."
"In Minnesota?" Scarlett asked
"Of course Minnesota!" Astrid rolled her eyes
"Does Val know you're there?"
Astrid sighed and closed her eyes "No, you're the only one that does, so if Hiccup or Val finds out, I'll know you told and I'll have to beat you up."
"That sounds fair." Scarlett said before sighing. "Astrid… Hiccup is a mess."
"He kissed another woman!"
"It sounds like Cami kissed him."
"He didn't move." Astrid pouted "was I not good enough for him?"
"Astrid, when you and Hiccup are together, it just… it works. You two are meant to be together."
"I just… I don't know anymore." Astrid chuckled dryly. "It sometimes feels like the whole world is out against us."
"Astrid, you know that you and Hiccup are meant to be."
"If we were so meant to be, then why is it so damn hard to be together? It feels like… every time we get close, some force pulls us apart again."
"There's no unknown forces conspiring against you and Hiccup." Astrid could hear Scarlett roll her eyes.
Astrid wasn't convinced. It seemed that every time she would be happy, her mind would go back to Sam and she could hear him going 'you don't deserve anything' or 'you're a selfish bitch.'
Almost a decade later, it still stung like it did back in high school.
Astrid rubbed her stomach, wondering if she would have to raise the baby on her own. "I just don't want to raise the baby alone, Scar."
"Astrid, if you would just come home-"
"I can't. Not yet."
Hiccup woke up the next morning with a pounding headache and someone ringing the doorbell.
"GO AWAY!" He shouted, pulling his blanket over his head. But the buzzing wouldn't stop.
Hiccup cursed and pulled himself out of bed, buckling his leg on and walking down to the front door. He opened the door and saw Camicazi standing there with two coffees in her hands.
"Morning!" She shouted and Hiccup rubbed his temple
"Cami, what the hell are you doing here?"
"I came to see you, silly." Cami barged her way in and Hiccup groaned
"Cami, I told you I can't see you."
"What a load of bull." Camicazi rolled her eyes "You know we're meant to be."
"No. No we're not. Astrid-"
"Left you." Cami said matter of factly, crossing her arms.
"She had a pretty damn good reason. You forced yourself on me."
"You liked it."
"No. No I fucking didn't. Get out of my house, I don't want to see you."
Cami let out a breath "I can't believe this. I divorced my husband for you."
"What the hell did you think, Cami. That you would come back and everything would be like it was when we were eight? I don't know what my past self was thinking, but it sure as hell wasn't love."
"I- I wanted it to be like before." Whispered Cami "You're the only guy who's ever liked me for me."
Hiccup shook his head "I love Astrid now, and I don't know why that's so hard for you to get."
Cami teared up "I- I just wanted you to love me again."
"I'm sorry I can't, Cami. But Astrid pretty much owns my heart now and there's nothing anyone can do to stop it."
Cami laughed bitterly "You sure?"
"I'm pretty positive." Hiccup ruffled his hair "But I do know you're going to find this amazing guy who will love you back."
"Call me crazy, but I think I needed to hear that from you."
"That's what they call closure." Hiccup smirked
"Don't patronize me, Haddock." Cami wiped her face "Well, I'm an idiot. Trying to seduce an almost married man."
Hiccup smiled a little "Goodbye Cami…"
Cami took a deep breath "Bye Haddock."
And then she walked out of his life and Hiccup would be lying if he didn't admit he was a little relieved.
