A/N: Hey! Look at that, it hasn't been two months since the last chapter! This one is short, but I wanted to hurry and post since I will be out of town for the rest of this week. Just letting you know, I didn't have any time to revise it. I hope you enjoy, and please let me know what you think!
Street smiled as JJ came up behind him and wrapped her arms around his waist. They had both just woken up a little while ago, and he was taking advantage of their current view of the lake.
It was his birthday weekend and JJ had rented a cabin located a few hours outside of D.C. for them to spend several days in. It was right on the lake, with a gorgeous view of the surrounding area, and Street loved the fact that it was just him and her out there. No work, no distractions, just the two of them and the beauty that surrounded them.
This was their second morning there, Street's actual birthday, and he was already so much more relaxed than he had been before getting there. Work had been crazy, and he knew this was exactly what he'd been needing.
"Happy birthday, honey." She placed a kiss between his shoulder blades, and he turned around to face her.
He leaned in to kiss her on the lips. "Thank you." Being with her made it more than a happy birthday… it was incredible.
She had asked him when they got there if there was anything specific he wanted to do. His response was that he just wanted a relaxed, easy going weekend, a time to unwind.
Today, he had an idea to go on a hike, make the time to check out the scenery, then spend the evening by the lake. So, that's what they were getting ready to do. After finishing their cups on coffee, and breakfast that JJ fixed, they both put on some comfortable clothes and sneakers. Before long, the couple set off on a nearby trail.
Street always loved hiking, it was a way to clear his head and escape the chaos of the rest of the world. Having JJ with him made it even better, and he enjoyed getting to share that with her.
They spent several hours exploring the nearby area, pointing out their favorite spots to each other. By the time they got back to the cabin, it was later in the afternoon, so they changed into their swimwear in order to relax by the lake.
They both always enjoyed anytime they could spend by the water, so Street was once again grateful for the place JJ picked for them. He was also grateful for the bikini she was wearing, which meant her slight bump was on display.
Since JJ's appointment had been just a few days before their trip, they hadn't told their teams the news yet. That was planned for soon after they got back, and Street couldn't wait. For now though, he was happy just having this weekend with JJ and their unborn child.
They stayed out by the lake to watch the sunset. More accurately, JJ watched the sunset while Street watched her. The orange-gold hues were shining on her face and hair, and Street found himself unable to look away. She was beautiful, and in that moment, Street knew he hadn't ever been truly living life until the moment she walked into his.
JJ looked over, catching him staring. She smiled and he realized that it must've mirrored the smile on his own face. "What?"
"I'm just so happy to be here with you. Sometimes it's hard to believe that I actually have the privilege of calling you my fiancé."
She reached up to kiss his cheek before leaning into his side. "I wouldn't want to be here with anyone else."
After the sun fully set, the couple headed back inside, and JJ cooked Street a meal for his birthday. She went all out with steak, baked potatoes, and salad.
It was delicious, and Street had to smile at the fact. When he first met her, JJ's cooking skills had been pretty limited… but she had come a long way since then. "This is amazing, babe. Thank you."
"Are you sure? I was worried that I salted everything too much."
Street shook his head, meaning every bit of what he said. "Everything's perfect."
They finished their meal, then went to sit on the porch for a while. It was dark now, the only light coming from the moon shining above the lake, and the slight glow of the few lamps inside the cabin.
For a long few moments, the pair sat in silence, just enjoying each other's company, but eventually JJ spoke up from where she was curled into Street's side. "I think it's a girl."
"What?" He looked down at her and watched her run a hand over her stomach. His face broke into a smile as he registered her words. "What makes you so sure?"
"Just a feeling. She's going to have your dimples."
He laid his hand on top of hers and pulled her closer to him. He could see it now… a little girl that looked just like JJ… blonde hair, blue eyes, and a killer smile. He could see JJ as a mother, and knew she would be so incredible with their daughter, so loving and patient.
Leaning down to capture her lips with his own, Street poured every ounce of the emotions he was feeling into the kiss. He couldn't describe the overwhelming sense of love that washed over him in that moment.
JJ kissed him back just as eagerly, shifting so that she was practically on his lap.
Street had no idea how long they stayed like that, but time didn't matter. All that mattered was her, and right now, he couldn't get enough.
Suddenly, JJ was standing and pulling Street up with her. "C'mon." She smirked, and the look in her eyes nearly brought him to his knees. "Let's go inside. I need to give you the rest of your birthday present."
…
JJ and Street were officially headed back to Quantico. Unfortunately, their time at the cabin couldn't last forever, and now they were back to reality. It was already nearing afternoon, as they hadn't started out too early, but the drive was only a few hours long. Both of them had to be back at work tomorrow.
"So, did you have a good birthday?" JJ leaned her head back as she turned her gaze towards Street.
He looked back and forth between her and the road, a smile crossing his features. "It was an amazing birthday… but then again, how could it not have been since I was spending it with you?" He winked at her and she chuckled at his charm.
"Well, I-" She was cut off by the ringing of her cellphone. Pulling it out of her bag, she frowned and Street figured it had something to do with work. "Agent Jareau… Yes, that's right… I don't understand, what do you mean? You're sure it's my agent?"
Street was trying not to eavesdrop, but he couldn't help it as JJ's voice grew increasingly concerned. Glancing over at her, his stomach dropped as her face went ashen. He still didn't know who was on the other end of the line and, making sure no one was behind them, he carefully pulled their truck to the side of the road.
All he gathered from JJ's side of the conversation was that one of her agents was in trouble.
"Where is Reid being held now?" She nodded, though Street was the only one who could actually see her. "I can be in Mexico by nightfall."
Street's eyebrows hit his hairline as JJ hung up the phone. "Mexico? Babe, what's going on?"
She seemed to process her words before actually speaking as shock was evident across her face. "That was the police chief in Matamoros, Mexico. They have Reid in custody down there."
"What? Reid… why? Wait a second, what was he even doing in Mexico?"
"I don't know, I didn't even know he was. They've got him on drug possession with the intent to distribute. He was found with heroin and cocaine in the trunk of his car."
Street couldn't believe what he was hearing. Their Reid was caught with drugs? No way… there had to be a mistake.
