Chapter 29: Prophecy of Despair

"Nomumumumu. I was expecting you."

"Chupa…The phony prophet, Nomuratodamas."

"Nomumumu. If you're here to see me, you mustn't share that view."

"Chu."

"Have you come to ask about the Great King of Terror and why the card given to you failed to help you defeat his lackey?"

"Well, that guy has up and disappeared again, so Chupa can't ask him, chupa!"

"Who do you believe that guy is exactly?"

"Chupa doesn't know, chupa. Not just a regular engineer for Goha, Chupa's sure of that, chupa! Appearing out of nowhere to hand Fusion to Chupa without telling Chupa why, chupa! It wasn't the first time he's given Chupa a card, cabra!"

"It wasn't," Nomura affirmed.

"You've known more about the Great King of Terror since the beginning, chupa! Your hat alien was reading off lines from Mr. Universe, but you've got secrets on how to stop him, don't chu, chupa?"

"I do. Though you're asking the wrong questions."

"Chupa?"

"The Great King of Terror's power is fearsome, yes, but his arrival is a mere gear in a greater final destiny. Your true enemy at this stage is much closer than you think."

"Chupa's true enemy, chupa?"

"Yours. And his."

"Whose, chupa? The engineer's, chupa?"

"No. The one who bested me in a Rush Duel. Here, in the Coruffium."

"Yuhi, chupa?"

Nomura chuckled.

"What, chupa?"

"I wonder. Have you ever said his name to him and meant it?"

Chupataro winced. "Chupa's not here about Chupa's relationship, chupa!"

"Aren't you?"

"Chupa?"

"Why did the Earthdamar reverse the freezing process when it did?"

"That's…It was Yuhi's emotions, chupa."

"Yet the space dinosaur wasn't revived?"

Kawai Tell hadn't covered that, but the reason seemed obvious.

"Chupa means more to him than The*Mokeida Mbembe, cabra!"

"I see it! I see it! A prophecy of the real reason that guy gave you Fusion!"

"Volume 7, Number 77: The risen devil, gorging himself on the spoils of friendship, shall usurp a Great King of Terror!" Damas spouted, clicking his single eye open.

"The Great King will be usurped, chupa? Is that even possible, chupa?"

"Nomumu. Fusion is a tool, not for use against the Great King of Terror or his goons. It has a grander purpose."

"The true enemy…A risen devil…Just what is it, chupa?"

"Nomumumumu. You will know in due time."

The Duel was over. The*Luge was beaten by Yudias and Goha Yuna's enigmatic engineer.

Speaking of, were they honestly taking his story at face value? That this boy, the creator of Rush Duels, was from the future?

He seemed to be very unreliable, but he might have incredible potential.

But things weren't settled yet. Everyone was still frozen. And there was still the nagging sense of doom from Nomuratodamas' prophecy churning around in Chupataro's stomach.

"The risen devil, gorging himself on the spoils of friendship, shall usurp a Great King of Terror." The spoils of friendship…Wait, was the prophecy referencing this Friendship Rush Duel Tournament, chupa?

Zuwijo smirked, not the right reaction for a gambler whose horse just lost a race he placed a big bet on.

Is Zuwijo the true enemy, chupa? No, that's not it, chupa. Zuwijo was hiding in front of us and says he's after The*Luge's power, but with Zuwijo, it's never that simple, chupa. Think. Think, chupa. Who would have the most to gain from exploiting the tournament, cabra?

Conveniently, the "who" in question elected to come out of the shadows that second. Unfrozen, unlike the many who'd read the Great King of Terror's manga and become petrified by how heinously dull it was.

"At last you show your true colours, The*Providence!" Zuwijo pointed.

"The*Providence?" Yuamu held her hands over her mouth.

"But how? We saw you get frozen!" Yuhi joined Zuwijo in pointing at The*Providence.

The Great King's Chief of Staff, chupa? He was trying to convince the Great King his manga was boring to stop him from freezing any more people like we were, chupa! But "true colours," chupa? "Your true enemy at this stage is closer than you think." Was this what Nomuratodamas meant, cabra?

Chupataro squinted, endeavouring to look past The*Providence's inscrutable visor to discern what his endgame was. The*Providence's expression was so completely indecipherable, Chupataro ended up looking past him to the Great King of Terror's gallery of ice blocks behind him.

No. It was more like a garden!

Closer than you think. Closer than you think, chupa. The Earthdamar thawed Chupa out because Yuhi was afraid for Chupa.

Then why didn't the Earthdamar resonate with Yuhi's emotions when Yuhi was afraid for The*Mokeida Mbembe? Or when he mistook the original Chupataro for his Chupataro?

Was it really because his Chupataro meant more to him? Or was there another reason they weren't seeing?

Was it the Earthdamar that was responsible?

Had Kawai Tell missed something?

"What is it you are after?"

"Justice," The*Providence answered Asaka. "His Majesty, the Great King of Terror, departed the Arctic Nebula to befriend all kinds of people from various nebulae, planets, and civilizations. Although he may have been oblivious to the harm he unwittingly caused, millions have had their lives destroyed, and those of us remaining have pledged ourselves to him, even perpetrating his sins, for a shot at retribution. Long have I travelled with him, seeking a power capable of unseating him. And I finally found it! Here, in Mutsuba Town!"

"Here?"

"In Mutsuba Town?"

"Providence guided me to the one who could wipe out the Great King's reign of terror for good!"

It clicked.

Chupa has it, chupa! Chupa's true enemy is –!

One of the ice blocks in the garden split down the middle, and an iridescent flash swept through the throne room.

"This is –!" Chupataro heard Yudias yell.
