[Alexandria]
Banishing Rick 9 months ago was the best decision for Bella and for the children. Carl was happier even though he missed his dad from time to time, he realized that it wasn't his dad he missed, but the man he became without alcohol that he missed. But Negan was a good fill in. Carl really loved him like a son loves a father. Aya called Negan dada and Carl soon started calling him dad too so Aya wouldn't be confused. Bella had twins, two girls. Harley and Jezebel. Dark hair and wondrous blue eyes. They were still little, only a month old since Bella gave birth. She did well and the twins were healthy. Bella was happy with Negan. It was as if time hadn't passed for them. Their love was strong for one another. Negan didn't try to stunt Bella. He knew Bella was strong minded and did things her own way and Negan didn't want to dampen that.
Jasper was the effective leader of the Alexandrites. Negan still led the Saviors. They had factions that worked in unison together. The Saviors came and went from Alexandria as did any one of the Alexandrites that traveled to any of the compounds.
The snow had melted more there in DC and Virginia which was giving way to spring soon. The expansion on the wall was complete and pasture land was prepared for cows and goats they the hilltop would provide.
Things were a perfect balance right now, there was nothing else Bella could ask for at this point in time.
Glenn and Daryl stood on watch; the early waking moments of the night rolling in. There was still held a harsh chill, so they both bundled up. They stood together on the platform overlooking the gate.
"Maggie is pregnant." Glenn said out loud.
"No shit, that's awesome man." Daryl commented with a smile. "She'll be a good momma." He complimented.
Glenn smiled. "We're excited. Nervous but excited."
Daryl slapped Glenn on the shoulder grinning. "Congrats man." He said and then saw movement of a vehicle approaching. It was a large Humvee and it crept to a stop outside the gate.
Glenn frowned and grabbed the walkie. They got communication started for short distances a few months back they were helpful. "Negan."
There was a brief pause.
"What's up?"
"Any of the guys headed this way? Humvee?"
"No. Not tonight. Brent is at hilltop and the Humvee is there being repaired." Negan relayed.
"Copy that." Glenn said and then slapped Daryl's arm. "Cover me." He said and climbed down off the platform. "Jazz," he says when he sees Jasper trot up with Jake.
"Open the gate and close it behind me and Jake. Sasha and Tyrese are in the towers." Jasper said and Glenn pulled back the gate and Jasper walked out and Glenn shut the gate behind him.
Jasper was holding a M16 casually as he approached and so was Jake. The sky was darkening with every passing second but Jasper didn't care. "Exit the vehicle calmly where I can see your hands."
Inside the Humvee was no other than Charlie. He studied the wall of Alexandria as he approached with the vehicle. It reminded him of Woodbury with the wall and he was trying to run through strategies to be civil but cautious. He saw that Jasper was armed and so was the other man and he saw towers and knew they were likely armed. This wasn't a place to mess with but it was the only place within a few miles that looked safe enough. Charlie looked at Billy. "I'll talk to him. " he said and opened the door and got out slowly with his hands up. He was wearing half of a marine uniform since he was wearing a heavier winter coat over the top.
"We don't want trouble." Charlie spoke.
Jake lowered his weapon when he heard Charlie speak. The darkness made it harder to see but he wasn't mistaken. "Charlie?"
Charlie snapped his attention to Jake when he heard him speak. "Jake." He breathed out like breath was pushed out of him.
Jake looked to the passenger side of the Humvee and he rushed to the door and opened it. His heart was slamming hard in his chest. "Dad?"
Billy was in tears as he saw the strong face of his son. "You're alive." He breathed and Jake was hugging his dad inside the Humvee.
Charlie had tears in his eyes as he watched Jake go to Billy. He looked back at Jasper. "Um." He was trying to find his words.
Jasper kept his eyes on Charlie, the honey eyes understanding that Jake knew who these men were. "Jake knows you. But I don't." He said out loud.
"Colonel Charles Swan." Charlie said, clearing his throat a little. "My daughter she was traveling with Jake. Is she… is she…"
"Bella isn't here." Jasper said, shouldering his weapon. "Glenn open the gate." He called and the gate sprung open. "Come on. The biters will gather.
Charlie was confused why Bella wasn't there. What did Jasper mean? He just slunk back inside the Humvee and drove through the gates with Jake following behind the Humvee. The gate snapped closed once they were safe inside.
Glenn came around to the back passenger side when the door opened and people got out. Two men got out on the one side before three women and then the hatch opened and another two men got out. Glenn was surprised to see so many people get out of the Humvee.
Jake was helping Billy out of the passenger side and Jake quickly realized that his dad was hurt badly. "Dad."
"Loss the use of my legs son." Billy said with tears still rolling down his face.
Glenn moved towards to help Jake shoulder some of the weight.
Jasper realized that Billy was paralyzed and whistled at Spencer who was walking up. "Get the wheelchair out of the clinic." He ordered and Spencer trotted over to the building that Charlie was assuming was the clinic and returned with a wheelchair. Jake and Glenn eased Billy into the wheelchair.
Charlie looked at Jasper. "Bella…"
Jasper's radio crackled and Negan's voice filtered through.
"Open the gate. I'm rolling up."
Jasper nodded. "Copy." He said. "Daryl!"
Daryl sprung the gate open when he climbed down out of the platform and a truck rolled through taller than the military Humvee and then shut it close behind Negan.
Negan hopped down out of the truck and Michonne got down from the other side. He surveyed the Humvee and the other newcomers. "Hilltop is secure." He said and nodded to Charlie and the others. "Friends?"
Jasper gave a nod. "This is Colonel Charles Swan. I'm assuming this is Major General Black. The others I haven't figured out yet." Jasper said and Charlie picked up a bit of Texan drawl.
Negan's brows lifted and stepped forward to shake Charlie's hand. "I'll be damned. Nice to meet you sir. Bella spoke a lot about you when we served together." He relayed.
Charlie shook Negan's hand but he could care less about who any of these people were. He wanted to know about Bella. "Where is Bella?" he asked Negan directly.
"Not here." Negan said and saw Carl come out of the house to see what was going on. "Carl, stay inside son with your sisters." He called to him.
Carl frowned. "Where's mom?"
"Uh. Not back yet kiddo." Negan said. "I'll be inside in a minute." He said and Carl hesitated a little bit before going back inside.
Charlie crossed his arms now looking at Jasper and then back at Negan. "She's not here. Do you know where she is?"
Negan blew out a breath. "Uh. No. She is missing at the moment. Missed check in. "
"God damnit!" They heard Bella's voice outside the wall somewhere.
Negan jumped into action. "Bella!" he called out as he rushed towards the gate. Gun fire lit up the silence of the night. "Bella!"
"Don't open the gate!" Bella screamed out and it was clear her breathing was labored.
There was other shouting of other people and then more gunfire.
"Goddamnit!" Negan cursed. "Where are you!" he yelled. "North?" he yelled and was met with just gunfire. "Bella, baby I'm coming." He reassured.
Jasper shouted orders and then the sounds of growling echoed into the night as a herd moved in around Alexandria.
Suddenly the sound of a bomb went off and then the plume of fire and smoke lashed up and touched the dark sky.
Negan ran around the base of the wall going for the rear tower to get better visibility. Tyrese and Sasha fired out of the front towers into the crowd of walkers but he needed to get to Bella.
Charlie was shocked at the sudden commotion, but he motioned to Abraham and Rosita and they pulled weapons from the back of the Humvee to prepare for a firefight.
Another bomb went off opposite of where Negan was headed for the tower and he cursed and changed directions. "Bella!" he yelled and ran across the street to the other side. Charlie and Jake were right with him along with Jasper as they rushed to see if Bella was coming in from the east wall. It was the only wall that was close enough to something for Bella to be able to scale if she needed to.
There was silence for a moment and then more gunfire for a second only before there was whoosh sound as if she set fire to something outside the wall and the cries of men burning to death.
Bella's body screamed at her to stop moving so fast but she had to. She heard Negan's faint yells for her but she was focused on surviving. She went to the East wall and she clambered up on the old building outside the wall. She got up on the roof and propelled herself off the roof into the branches of the tree that stood beside the building. The leaves were still dead and gone off the tree but she had the night on her side to help camouflage herself. But she didn't take chances. She pulled the pin on the grenade from her hip and lobbed it towards the men advancing towards her location and it went off and the echoed screams of men being torn apart from the blast made her think of Afghanistan but she remained focused. She climbed higher in the tree so she was towering over the wall. She swung from the branch and it creaked under her weight but she managed to swing closer to the wall. She felt the bite of a bullet in her leg and she had to adjust her grip on the branch to throw her dagger into the man that shot up into the tree at her. He groaned in pain as she struck him in something not super vital.
"Fuck you!" Bella yelled at him and then swung from the top of the tree, sailing across the wall to the roof of one of the houses. It was the house where the pantry was located. She rolled a little, ignoring the pain in her leg as it radiated through her. She looked back to see someone sailing across the wall towards her. They tussled and rolled off the roof and she landed on top of the guy when they landed on the ground. He groaned under her weight but they stumbled to their feet regardless. He swung wide at Bella but she caught the swing and unhooked her knife from it's small sheath on her waist and she spun it in her hand as she jabbed it up into his ribs, before kicking him backwards. He stumbled and she brought her pistol up and fired five times, hitting him three times in the chest and twice in the head.
She was breathing hard. Her hair was falling out of the french braid she had her hair in but she didn't care. She saw Negan running towards her and she felt the relief of seeing him. His arms crushed around him and his mouth was on hers.
"Honey, I love you too but we have bigger problems." Bella said and she limped back, her eyes settling on her dad for the first time in many years. She wanted to waste time on hugging him tight and crying that her dad was alive but she had bigger things to worry about. She grabbed a grenade from her hip and pulled the pin and stumbled back a little and aimed and lobbed the grenade over the side of the wall and it boomed and men screamed. "Babe hoist me up on the roof." She said to Negan, looking away from her dad.
Negan sighed and he hoisted her up, noticing the gunshot in her leg but he didn't say anything to alarm the others just yet. "Baby, you see anything?" he asked once she was on top of the roof.
Bella was silent as she spun the rifle up off her back and looked into the sights and she aimed for the two men sneaking up where she had blown others up. She fired without hesitation, shots echoing around. Walkers were everywhere now and she swung her sight around and dipped to the side as she got tagged in the shoulder with an arrow. She stumbled a little but fired back and took out the archer who got a lucky shot in. She waited a beat before she made sure it was clear no one else was trying to infiltrate that side and she slid down the roof and Negan helped her down.
"Is that a fucking arrow?" Negan exclaimed.
Bella nodded and broke off the tip of the arrow and ripped the arrow from the back of her shoulder.
"Dammit Bella." Negan cursed and shrugged his jacket off to press to her shoulder.
"Jasper. They're not done. Get Sasha and Ty on those turrets. I want the street lit up." Bella ordered and she moved away from Negan. "Michonne with me." She motioned and then looked around and saw Rosita. "You and…" she looked at Abraham. "You look strong. Come on." She said and then ran, her leg still oozing out blood but right now it was protecting Alexandria.
Negan sighed. "You fucking heard her." He said to Jasper and Jasper got on the radio. Negan pulled his radio out and changed frequencies. "Brent, I need backup at Alexandria. I need gun power."
"Rodger that."
Negan looked at Charlie. "It's going to be a long night."
Charlie was still shocked at what was going on. Bella hadn't acknowledged him and he was worried about her being injured. But he nodded and fell into step to help where he could.
