The scene panned down to the school cafeteria. Chloe was talking to Nathaniel and Alya, Lila was talking to Nino, as Luka ate with Felix. He glanced up at Marinette, only to see her sitting alone at a large lunch table, staring into space with a worried expression.
She was thinking about Chat Blanc.
Concerned, the aqua haired teen walked over to Marinette. He sat next to her and said:
"Hey. Are you alright?"
"Oh? Yeah I just was thinking about something." Marinette said before biting into a tuna sandwich. She didn't want any of her friends in danger, so she sat as far away from them as possible. The akumitizations were unpredictable.
"What are you thinking about? The next quiz our teacher's gonna give us? I know I'm anxious as hell about that!" Luka chuckled a bit.
"I'm thinking about... Félix. He
asked me if I wanted to see him after school and I wrote "yes!" What do I do with him?!" Marinette softly squeaked the word yes, as if she hit puberty backwards.
"Is it a date or...?" Luka smirked, trying not to laugh.
She thought of the way he felt on her leg and her face turned strawberry red.
"We just met. I'm sure it's a friendly outing!" Marinette shakily smiled.
"Sure thing. I'm sure my dad would be stoked to hear that Félix is dating you. He's a good friend to Jagged." Luka said as he grabbed his juicebox.
"Oooh I keep forgetting your father is Jagged Stone! Silly me! But no, we're not dating. We're uhhhh... just meeting up to get to know each other. Alone." Marinette tapped her nails on the table.
Luka stopped mid-slurp. He glanced at marinette like she was stupid.
"Mari, that's basically a date."
"Is not!"
"Heh heh! Is too!"
"Is not!"
The teens elbowed each other.
Félix walked over, his leather yates tapping on the white amd green tiled floors.
"You two doing alright? I hope I didn't interrupt anything." Félix said, trying not to look or sound jealous.
"Yeah yeah. Just arguing about whether or not you're taking Mari on a date." Luka said in a snarky manner.
Marinette sighed in defeat.
"I am. Ice cream in the park. It's gonna be great!" Félix calmly said.
'I'm not ready for a date I'm not ready for a celebrity date!!' Marinette anxiously thought.
"Hold on, hold on, boys. I need to uh... get dressed for the date." Marinette goofily pointed at the doors.
"School's not even out yet!"
"Yeah, Luka's right! You gotta prep once you get home!"
Mari winced at the boys. They were really smart compared to Nino.
"It's been great talking but I really gotta go, bye guys!" Marinette tossed out the tinfoil. she closed her lunchbox and ran over to Lila's table.
"Um... bye." Luka said in concern.
"Did you see her blush? So cute!" Félix whispered to Luka.
"She has a crush. She's just scared to admit it." Luka whispered back.
"So... you and little Richie there have somethin' goin' on, huh?" Lila smirked as she leaned into her own hand.
"Ugh! Not you too! It's not a date! It hasn't even been a week since I met the boy!" Marinette groaned.
"Nothing wrong with love at first sight, Marie." Nino added.
"You guys, I just wanted to enjoy lunch! Enough with the romance stuff! How about we talk about... fashion?!" Marinette anxiously said.
"Actually, I've been meaning to talk about this." Lila got out an ancient looking book from her backpack. Nino and Mari stared at it in awe.
"It's a book about superheroes that used these ancient jewels called the Miraculous. These powers are based on animals! They protected segments of the world! What if Miraculous Ladybug is one of those users?!" Lila explained.
"Yeah! That would explain why she's protecting Paris!" Marinette said.
'I need to ask her for a copy of this book. It might help me get a better grip on my powers.' She thought.
"That is so cool! I like that fox one! What's it called?" Nino said as he pointed at a chinese lady dressed as a red fox. She was playing the flute in a very painter esque art style.
" Her name is Volpina! A vixen superheroine who protected ancient china from dragons! According to this paragraph, she and her kwami used the power of illusion!" Lila placed her finger on the page.
Tikki peeped at the book in excitement. She hid herself in the pink purse once the kids looked her direction.
"Oh, cool! It says here that the Miraculous is a necklace! I hope she arrives to help Ladybug!" Nino said, causing Marinette to smile a bit.
"There's several users, this one's probably passed away by now... But I'm sure there's a modern Volpina in here!" Lila flipped through the pages. She nearly dropped the book once she saw her own father was a Volpina.
"You're related to a superhero?! That's amazing! I mean... It's a shame he passed away, but still!" Marinette said.
"Why didn't dad even tell me?!" Lila gasped.
"Maybe because it's a secret identity! Ooo!" Nino wiggled his fingers. The girls laughed at this.
"Say, wouldn't he be called something masculine like Volpino?" Nino asked.
".. It says here he called himself Volpix. Pretty cool, pa!" Lila smiled.
The gears in Tikki's head clicked as she looked at Lila.
'She would be a perfect Volpina.'
Later that day, Marinette showed Félix her red and black dress design. He glanced carefully at the marker drawing then put a thumbs up.
"I've got another idea!"
"And what's that?"
"May I draw next to your drawing, m'lady?"
"Of course!"
Félix took out a bunch of color pencils. He drew a red and black suit design next to her dress. he then added brown shoes.
"There. It's perfect for a couple." Félix smiled. Marinette slowly turned around towards him, her face super pink as she heated up.
"Like... like us?" She croaked.
"Um, of course. Are you okay?" Félix asked.
Marinette nearly fainted.
She closed her own eyes and took a deep breath. Vague winked at Félix then cocked his head towards one of the earrings. Félix almost took one, when suddenly Mari opened her eyes.
"Yeah, but I think I need to cool down. Let's get some ice cream from Gustavo. He's my favorite vendor!" Mari said.
"Yeah... I remember what we told Luka." Félix rubbed her cheek and leaned in close.
"It'll be a lot of fun." His charming smile nearly made her melt.
He then walked to her sketch book and put his drawing next to it. Vague whispered "Damn it!" as Félix did a disappointed glare.
"What? What was that?" Marinette asked.
"Nothing, Mari! Just thought of my mom finding out about the date. But I'm sure she won't!" Félix smiled.
As the two went outside, Tikki softly warned Mari about Félix's stealing attempt. The teenager of course ignored this and headed towards Gustavo's ice cream stand.
"There's no way someone so sweet would try to steal the Miraculous." She whispered as Félix talked to Gustavo.
"Just be careful, Marinette. Try to ask him questions and make sure that he's not hiding anything." Tikki whispered back.
"And what flavor would that lovely young girl talking to her purse would like?" Gustavo said in an Italian accent. He was a fat rosey cheeked man with a big nose and a small mustache.
"Uhh... I would like strawberry." Marinette said, glancing at her pink bag. She then glanced back at the vendor.
Félix raised an eyebrow.
"Ah yes, chocolate and strawberry. The perfect combination for a bittersweet couple. I'll prep it in-a-no time!" Gustavo smiled. He went to the back.
"You like chocolate too?!" Mari asked Félix.
"Of course! Who doesn't like chocolate?!"
"My mother, but she's about as sweet as it. She makes the best vanilla cakes a girl can ask for!"
"Sounds better than my mom who just focuses on healthy food. We should meet each other's moms sometime." Félix said.
Vague nodded in agreement. The closer Mari was to Hawkmoth, the better.
"Totally! By the way, I've got a few questions I wanna ask you!" Marinette smiled.
"Fire away!" Félix said.
"Do you know anything about Ladybug?"
Félix sweat a bit. He tried not to swallow his saliva too loud.
"Uhh... No. All I know is that she's a superhero that came out of nowhere and battles some crazy people." Félix tried his best to lie.
"Do you want to know more about her?" Marinette asked.
"Mari, I thought this was about us, not some teenager in weird spandex!" Félix raised his voice a bit.
"Excuse me, do you two need a minute?"
"No no it's fine. Thank you for the ice cream." Félix paid for the ice cream. He gave one cone to Marinette and kept the chocolate for himself.
"Well, I'm sorry... It's just that... I had the same earrings as her. And I thought you mistakenly saw mine as hers! You was going to steal them—"
"Mari, I reached over to rub your cheek, not steal your earrings! You think my affection is theft?!" Félix glared.
"No no! I'm so sorry! I must be misreading things!" She gave Tikki a brief glare before
looking back at Félix.
"You're very charming, and that was totally f'ed up to assume you were—"
"AHHHHHHHHH!!" A crowd of people screamed. The ground shook and Gustavo ran away pushing his ice cream cart. A giant villain crushed several buildings. It looked like a golem rock creature with bear ears.
'What? Was Mom getting impatient?!' Félix thought.
'Oh no, not now!' Marinette thought.
"I gotta go! I'm so sorry, Félix!" She said as she held his hand.
"No need to be. I understand if you feel guilty. That and um... thegiantgolem!" Félix ran off in a panic, nearly dropping his cone.
Marinette licked her ice cream. She hid in an alleyway and was about to transform, when suddenly Tikki told her to stop.
"What, what's up?" Marinette whispered.
Tikki gestured at Lila across the street.
"Huh? We're too far away."
Marinette used the zoom function on her phone to get a closer look at Lila, who was putting on a necklace with a fox tail charm. Suddenly, a fox Kwami flew right out of it and talked to her. She nearly stumbled back.
"Huh?! What is this thing?! It was not in the book!" Lila panicked.
"I am not a thing. My name is Trixx, and I'm your kwami!" The tiny fox like creature said.
"My kwami! You're what gives superheroes their animal powers!! Eeeeee this is so cool!"
"It can't be- there is no way she's gonna be the next Volpina!" Marinette said in disbelief.
"She can help you, Marinette! You two can be a crime fighting duo! She has the magic book, after all! Let's go tell her-"
"Tikki, there is no way I'm telling my friend I'm Ladybug! She'll freak out and tell everyone on her Lady blog!!" Marinette warned.
"Oh... Maybe if we see her skills, she'll be a worthy sidekick! I mean she's already a great friend!" Tikki reassured.
The two watched as Lila transformed.
"Ready to become a superhero?
You just need to say one thing: "Trixx, let's pounce!"" Trixx said.
"Okay! Trixx, let's pounce!" The necklace around her neck started to glow light orange as the jewel floated in the air. Lila glanced up in surprise as two long fox ears appeared in her hair. Said hair turned from brown to is black and then quickly ombrés down to light brown with the tips of her hair being white.
An orange and white mask manifested around her hazel-brown eyes as two black boots wrapped around her legs.
She tapped her feet. The soles of her feet turned white with an orange fox foot printed on each. An orange jumpsuit with a white section went down the front. Wrapped around her waist was an orange sash that looked like a foxtail. The edges of her collar and the tops of her upper half got black lines.
Black ribbons wrapped around her arms as she danced then turned into black shiny gloves.
Once her transformation into Volpina was complete she Sailor Moon posed in front of an orange background.
Tikki ordered Marinette to transform in order to talk to her. Mari quickly turned into Ladybug and ran towards Volpina.
"Ladybug! Boy am I glad to see you! My mother turned into a rock golem! I need your help! How do I use this flute?" Vopina took out a striped instrument.
"There's a way to play the flute, but you're gonna need a special magic book for the sheet music! You got it?" Marinette said, then covered her mouth, it was as if Tikki was talking through her.
"I have it in my backpack! But I'm gonna record this for my Lady blog–"
"This has to be a secret. Not a word to your friends or on the Ladyblog. Or you and I will lose our powers." Marinette warned.
"Oh, right. A secret identity." She put her phone away.
The two flipped through the book then stopped in the fox chapter.
"Okay, first there's the Song of illusion, then the Song of disillusion. You can manifest anything you imagine with the flute! Or you can make it fade!" Volpina read.
"Then let's manifest something to distract the golem!"
"But what would distract her?"
Ladybug glanced at the golem, then a security helicopter that shot at her, lastly her half finished ice cream.
"I've got it! Try to imagine attack helicopter holding giant vats of ice cream! I'll use what I can to de-evilize your mother while she's distracted."
"That's a great idea! She'll be so confused!" Volpina took several glances at the sheet music. She then ran in front of the golem and played the music incorrectly at first. The stone golem glanced at her, roared, and stumbled towards Volpina. She recognized a miraculous on the teenager. Volpina sweat bullets as she tried her hardest to play the flute. After her fifth and final attempt, she played the illusion song, causing two attack helicopters with a giant tub of chocolate ice cream. Félix stopped trying to contact his mom and looked up with his jaw dropped.
The golem happily went after the ice cream instead. This gave ladybug the opportunity to swing onto the grey rocky body with her yo-yo. She couldn't find the akumatized object, it was hard to spot on such a large surface.
"Alright, time to summon my lucky charm!"
"Well hurry quick! It says the illusions last 1 minute!" Volpina called from below. The golem kept unsuccessfully trying to eat the ice cream as the military members ceased their fire. They saw ladybug was there.
"Volpina! What do you remember your mother doing exactly? Before she got evilized!"
"I remember her tending the garden and I annoyed her by playing loud music! I didn't mean for her to get so angry! Her watch turned purple!"
Ladybug summoned a lucky charm which was a pair of binoculars. She used them to spot which arm had the watch.
'The left wrist. Got it!' She clumsily ran down the arm and used her yo-you to break her fall. Ladybug nearly screamed once the golem looked at her with white eyes.
Panicked, Volpina made a giant illusion of herself looking upset. The golem glanced at the at the illusion and frowned. Marinette quickly tossed her yo yo at the watch, causing the akuma to come out.
"Not so fast! Gotcha!" She caught the akuma in her yo yo, and purified it, only for the golem to turn back into a middle aged woman. It was Mrs. Rossi.
"Bye bye little- OH #$!"
"AHHHH!! HELP ME!!" Mrs. Rossi screamed, free falling. Volphina ran towards the scene, playing the Song of disillusion. She put her arms out and caught her mother.
Ladybug sighed in relief, hanging onto her yo-yo.
"Thank you, but who are you?!" The brunette woman asked as she held onto the foxy heroine.
"Just call me Volpina, ma-I mean miss!"
"Miraculous Ladybug!" Ladybug said. White butterflies flew as the destruction on the buildings was reversed. She and her friend did a fist bump and said "Pound it!"
Félix mumbled in anger.
