Ch 18
Hydra troopers dragged Cap to the observation room and threw her down before Red Skull.
"Arrogance may not be a uniquely American trait, but I must say, you do it better than anyone." Red Skull said with a sneer. "But there are limits to what even you can do, Captain. Or did Erskine tell you otherwise?"
"He told me you were insane." Cap said simply.
"He resented my genius and tried to deny me what was rightfully mine. But he gave you everything. So, what made you so special?"
"Nothing. I'm just a kid from Brooklyn."
Red Skull gave a growl of rage before he punched Cap three times, making her fall to her knees.
"I can do this all day." Cap spat out defiantly.
"Of course you can, of course. But, unfortunately, I am on a tight schedule." Red Skull replied, then aimed his energy pistol.
Suddenly, the window shattered as the Howling Commandos zip-lined into the base and shot everything in sight.
Red Skull ran off and Morita ordered the assault team to go.
The soldiers outside charged but some were getting disintegrated by the Hydra troopers' energy blasters.
In the base, the soldiers and Phillips were fighting their way through troopers and shot down a squad of them. "Cut off one head, two more shall-" The last trooper's Hydra mantra was cut off as he also got shot.
"Let's go find two more." Phillips said.
Red Skull was boarding the Valkryie. 3 soldiers chased him but were shot down but Phillips and Carter used their car to help Cap go near the plane. After jumping off, she caught the landing gear and went in.
Three nuke planes with city targets were inside, one for Chicago, and another two for Boston and New York.
Hydra troopers then ran in but Cap kicked one in the head. Another trooper pulled out a knife but she dodged and threw him over the railing, then punched the last one.
One trooper tried to get away but Cap threw him onto the Boston plane and it took off, pulling the troper away screaming.
Another trooper got into a plane and took off but Cap jumped onto the plane with a third trooper.
The trooper had Cap in a chokehold but she rammed the back of her head into the trooper's face and he tumbled into the plane's rotor blades, getting shredded.
The first trooper flying the plane tried to shake Cap off but she used her superstrength to hang on before she got the plane open, causing the trooper to eject.
Cap then entered the plane and dodged the Valkyrie's energy blasts, then rammed the nuke plane inside in a shower of sparks.
"You don't give up, do you?" Red Skull asked.
"Nope." Cap replied.
Red Skull fired but Cap blocked the shots, then swung her shield to knock the pistol away from Red Skull before they had a fist fight.
Cap eventually got the upper hand and had Red Skull in a chokehold but they fell. Red Skull swiped her shield, then shoved her into the chair with it, knocking her down.
Then the plane lurched as it began to plummet but Red Skull stopped it using its auto-pilot.
"You could have the power of the gods." Red Skull taunted as he fired but Cap blocked. "Yet you wear a flag on your chest and think you fight a battle of nations. I have seen the future, Captain. There are no flags."
"Not my future." Cap said, then knocked Red Skull into the Tesseract with a hard shield-throw.
A swirling portal of blue energy opened up and Red Skull screamed as blue energy slowly surrounded him, then he went straight through the portal before it closed and the Tesseract fell, then burned itself out of the plane.
After the battle, Cap went to the pilot's seat. She knew there was literally nowhere she could land the plane but she also couldn't let it get anywhere with its nukes. Then she spotted an ice sheet up ahead and flew the plane right for it. The last thing she saw was the ice sheet getting closer and closer. There was a great rattling motion and chunks of ice flew up everywhere. Finally, darkness came.
