CHAPTER 16
Stonesight screeched, reaching his bad foreleg out to where his brother's form had vanished below the watery depths, "Starclan help us!" he wailed in shock and horror, making his voice shake. The howling sound of the wind became silent in Stonesight's ears and the wind came to a complete stop; even the water seemed to slow to a near stop. Stonesight's eyes narrowed as it seemed the whole world was holding its breath; to Stonesight's disbelief and awe, starry shapes began to shimmer above the water where Leafpaw's form had vanished. His eyes widened as four starry cats appeared floating over the water; "it's Minkpaw and Greystorm!" thought Stonesight he didn't recognize one of the starry cats however the other. Stonesight's mind flashed back to the day on the thunderpath; when he had been passing out he had seen a calico she-cat with amber eyes. She had been the first Starclan cat he had ever seen, she had smiled at him even then; now the she-cat was giving a soft and kind smile just like the one she had given him all that time ago. "Who are you?" Stonesight's voice was barely a whisper; the calico she gave a slight dip of her head; "my name is Iceberry; it's good to see you once more Stonesight." The calico's voice was full of fondness. Stonesight held the name of the starry cat in his mind, having a feeling she was important for something; Iceberry smiled softly then nodded to the other starry cat Stonesight didn't recognize. It was a skinny black tom with icy blue eyes; the name Darklily echoed in Stonesight's head he knew that must be this new Starclan cat's name. Stonesight looked down at the water in front of him, everything around him seemed to be almost frozen in time; only a calm gentle breeze tugged at Stonesight's soaked fur. "Please help my brother!" begged Stonesight forcing the tears that were threatening to overcome him to stay in the corner of his eyes. Greystorm gave a soft, kind smile and nodded "we won't let him die…" Greystorm's voice was soft and caring; Stonesight felt relief crash into him making him tremble slightly. Greystorm smiled, Stonesight watched as the starry cats circled around the spot where Leafpaw had sunk, Stonesight watched as the starry cats dove into the water. Making the water shine and a soft glow radiate from the water's surface and a mist rises from the water's surface filling the area around the water with starry mist. Stonesight's eyes reflected the shimmering water in front of him; he watched in pure awe and hope as the starry cats raised from the water carrying Leafpaw with them. Stonesight's eyes widened and he felt tears trickle down his face as Leafpaw was carried to the log and slowly gently put down onto the log's surface. Stonesight noticed a star marking right beside Leafpaw's left cheek; it was dark brown just like his stripes; Stonesight stared down at his brother weak with relief. Stonesight looked up at the starry cats who just smiled and dipped their heads then they vanished; as soon as the starry cats were gone everything returned to working order. The wind screeched and wailed loudly angrily, Stonesight felt the rain drench his pelt once more; he could hear the crying of the kits on the branch all of them pressing into Stonesight to try and keep warm. Stonesight forced his thoughts into order before turning his head to where Shadow and Amberpelt was; Stonesight looked into Shadow's cool green eyes. Shadow's eyes brightened and she nodded realizing what Stonesight's eyes were saying, Shadow dove into the water swimming to where the log was. Thankfully the log had managed to lodge itself into the side of the river; Stonesight grabbed little Piper by her scruff. The tiny chocolate color kit wiggled in his jaws as he carefully handed her off to Shadow; Shadow gently grabbed the younger she-cat's scruff beginning to swim to the opposite bank facing the way back to camp. Stonesight smiled in relief as Shadow made it to the other side climbing out of the river with Piper and she set the kit down. Stonesight gave a soft sigh of relief turning to the other three kits as Shadow reached the log again, this time taking Mintkit with her. Stonesight felt the log start to shift and he heard it crack slightly; Stonesight's ears flattened at the noise, his fur prickling slightly. Stonesight sent a silent prayer to Stonesight for them to safely make it back to camp; Shadow came swimming back as lightning crackled above them lighting the scene with an eerie white light. Stonesight handed Shadow the last two kits in a rush to save precious time; Shadow swam back to shore with Mosskit and Stormy. Stonesight gripped Leafpaw's scruff dragging them both into the water he began to swim; Shadow dove back into the water to help him. Stonesight gave the gorgeous she-cat a strained smile as they got to shore. Stonesight panted hard, his flanks heaving from the effort of swimming with that much weight to carry. Stonesight felt the rain drops crash down onto him, making him even more soaked; Shadow frowned, noticing that Stonesight's breathing was ragged and sharp. "I'll go get Amberpelt, you rest a bit." meowed Shadow kindness clear in her voice; Stonesight nodded to winded to speak. Shadow slid into the river once again, managing to swim her way to the bank on the opposite side where Amberpelt's soaked russet tabby form laid. Stonesight watched his paws shuffling back and forth out of worry and unease; "it feels like something bad is going to happen…" thought Stonesighr, his fur rising. At that moment the wind began to slow as Shadow made it to Stonesight's side of the bank; Stonesight rushed to Shadow helping her haul out the massive russet tom. Stonesight checked his brother over just as Amberpelt opened his eyes with a groan, Stonesight sighed in relief, happy that Amberpelt had finally woken. "What happened?" asked Amberpelt getting to his paws ``we'll tell you later first was have to get back to the others." meowed Shadow giving Stonesight a glance. Stonesight nodded his breathing was still a bit sharp and ragged but he would be fine till later. His bad leg was however throbbing with white hot pain; Stonesight's whole upper body was extremely sore from all the swimming and movements that he wasn't used to. Shadow glanced at him clearly worried for Stonesight making him blush, Stonesight picked up Mintkit wincing as he strained his upper half. Amberpelt quickly yet carefully set Leafpaw onto his back while he picked up Mosskit and Stormy; Shadow picked up Piper. Stonesight limped beside Shadow and Amberpelt glancing at Leafpaw's soggy form Stonesight still couldn't believe Starclan had came at his call, he looked down at the muddied floor curious as to why Starclan cared about him so much…
