AN: With a bit of inspirations, I managed to make this chapter. Let's just say we see the consequences of Tazita's sheltered life.
Basically, What Do They Fear? where the cast ends up in a situation where their worst fears come to life and must stand up to their phobias to defeat the villain that conjured them but basically, it's the trio cups in the long run with my oc.
But in the future, it will come to that for all four of them.
Guest: Thanks to what you mentioned I find out about the canceled episodes involving a few bosses that never made it in the series. That I would've loved to see. But I have a few ideas on how Tazita should meet them, especially the ones she'll befriend.
Including one that involved a musical duo between the devil and King Dice, according to the writers, they may consider to have the big kiss but only if the fans demand it should the series renew.
Chapter 7: Bump in the Night
Just as the group was on board the boat to head back to the isles, Brineybeard was arguing with a ship that was illegally dumping toxic waste.
Afterall his girlfriend was a sea beast, and the stuff was poisonous for the marine life. Sadly, they needed to collect evidence to prove what the company that owned the boat was up to.
The journey back wasn't exactly a walk in the park, no sooner had they left the fourth isle onto the sea, the weather began to get dark and choppy.
The group was beset by a sudden, violent rainstorm on the sea. Brineybeard kept everyone calm said that he sailed through storms like this before.
Somewhere in the chaos Tazita had been knocked overboard.
When it was all over, Tazita found herself washed upon a cove with many statues on some sunken ships. But the real shock factor was that she finally met Brineybeard's love interest.
Cala maria turned out to be a giant mermaid with the ability to turn into a gorgon. Usually, she eats any trespassers or turn them to stone but this wasn't what occurred.
Tazita like all little girls who loved fairytales, was beguiled at seeing her, that she jumped to hug her face. She was complimenting Cala maria on lovely she was, and how much she loved mermaids.
And sadly, as predicted earlier before the storm, the chemicals the crooks dumped had made her ill which was why she was sluggish, and didn't bother attacking the cup girl.
Next thing it is known the cup girl nursed Calamaria back to health with the help of the others who finally found her.
Like the previous incident, Calamaria gave them a head start to run. Everyone scrambled onto the boat though Mugman had to drag Tazita, who was still looking at the giant gorgon admiringly like a teen views an idol celebrity.
They were alright, the only thing left was to do while on land was do what they can to aid Brineybeard bring the company to justice to help Calamaria and the rest of the ocean.
The local fishermen agreed to help but only because about the scarcity of healthy fish. Because the toxic waste the fishing grounds were being infected and causing everyone to fall ill.
It is said that suspense and the resolution of suspense are two important components of horror. Suspense refers to the build up to threat, the tension created prior to the manifestation of threat, and the resolution/elimination of threat.
Which is why people tend to watch scary movies and read horror stories.
Coincidently, since Tazita was sheltered half the things in scary stories didn't frighten her, much to her friend's confusion.
So basically Cuphead, Mugman and Chalice were curious, they decided to make it their mission to find something that scares Tazita. Not that she minded since she wasn't very familiar with the concept of fear.
It all started after heading to the movies, Tazita was excited to watch alongside the boys and Chalice.
After all, if her aunt didn't allow her to read horror stories, she would harshly have forbidden her from watching Scary movies.
When the film finished, they wouldn't stop talking about it. At some point Tazita did jump admittedly, but not enough to cover her eyes or scream.
Although Chalice and her had to pull the boys from under the seat saying they were missing the 'best' part. But they weren't cruel enough to force them to uncover their eyes like certain one brother did to a young sister.
"I can think of at least two things wrong with that flick." said Chalice
Tazita then expresses how awesome the movie was. "I actually liked it; you were right it wasn't so scary."
"Yeah sure. Admit it, Tazita you were scared." said Cuphead
"Me scared?" Tazita chuckled, "I wasn't the one hiding under the seats."
"And don't forget that one-time Mugman had to go three times to get a change of pants." added Chalice smirking.
"Thanks for reminding me," he said in sarcasm.
The four cupkids walked down the street in town but the two boys stopped briefly not wanting to pass the cemetery.
"Uh, maybe we should be heading back." said Cuphead
"Yeah, we should" agreed Mugman
"Look we're passing that graveyard." Tazita said in amusement.
"Hurry up girls, this place gives me the heebie jeebies!" said Mugman
"It's because of that incident involving some ghosts that you out of there and Kettle mistook you for zombies?" Inquired Chalice in amusement
"How could he mistake you for zombies?" asked Tazita
"To be fair, we were disheveled and covered in dirt." explained Mugman
"I bet you wouldn't last a night in the cemetery." challenged Cuphead
"I'll take that bet; I am curious on what's so frightening about it." said Tazita
Mugman turned to his brother, "Cuphead, are you sure about this?"
The last thing they wanted was for Tazita to be scared to death by the spooks living there.
"Sure, I'm sure" said Cuphead
"I don't' know about you guys but I'm sitting this one out." said Chalice
"That's ok, this is something I want to do alone." replied Tazita
"It's your funeral." shrugged Chalice.
Tazita prepared some supplies, then bid the boys goodnight and slipped into the night to go through with the dare.
Tazita approached the dark and creepy cemetery with eager anticipation. She looked about; the entry was like any cemetery with gargoyles sitting on a column. Despite the stories she read, it looked peaceful and no sign of something sinister about. She saw a statue of a winged cloaked figure clutching a sword.
Unlike Cuphead and Mugman, who pretended not to be afraid when they really were, Tazita was just oblivious.
In the distance was an old chapel, which looked like the perfect place to spend the night in order to pass the dare. Lightning flashed then thunder sounded, which alerted the girl. She looked up; it seems it will start to rain soon.
"I gotta seek shelter before the rain gets to me…"
The girl passed by a statue of a viking riding a horse, but didn't see three figures playing cards at the foot of the statue. It was three ghosts who have been playing cards. Not long ago these same ones scared the boys out of their wits.
The first ghost was a short man with a hat and a stick with a cloth wrapped into a sack, and wearing a long sleeve shirt. The second was large overweight who wore a shirt, overalls, with a saw on his head. The third was an old woman wearing an elegant dress, small glasses on her long nose.
Upon noticing Tazita pass by, the short man places the cards down and says with a cockney accent, "Hey! A new guest!"
The lady ghost then says, grinning "They say new faces are a fresh start," with an eager grin.
The ghost in the middle not understanding just says, "Go fish!"
The short ghost just slaps him, as they floated behind the cup girl. To their amusement, they noticed she was walking right up to the old chapel.
An owl hooted nearby, and the girl didn't even flinch. She only clutched her arms as she felt the cold breeze.
"Starting to get cold, due to the weather." Said Tazita
"This is too easy." Said the short joyfully.
"The skeptics are the most fun to scare!" said the female ghost.
"They are?" inquired the large ghost.
"Shh!"
Tazita opened the door, most of the place was covered in cobwebs, which she brushed away.
When they made a creaking sound and the door slam behind her, all she did was light a match.
She noticed a simple hearth was useful for a fire. She dropped the match on to it which immediately started a fire to keep warm on a cold night. She climbed up the stairs, and didn't see the skeletons coming out. The girl was too busy exploring the old place. Not even the simple sounds of a twig snapping alerted her.
The lady ghost tried blowing a cold air on her back and neck.
"Ooooh! It's drafty here." Tazita shivered, she walked up to the fire to stay warm.
The skeletons stepped out, shaking their bones but she only taps one in curiosity as if touching something on a display shelf.
One ghost appears before Tazita, she just casually greets it. "Oh hello!"
The ghost then disappears, much to her confusion. "Hello?"
"Hello?" She called out "Give me a scare!"
A pendulum falls past but she avoids it obliviously.
"Now is there a room to make myself comfortable?" Tazita wondered.
The female ghost appears bringing a door, "Here's a room."
Tazita opens the door to see a train track with a ghost train coming. "Really? I know this is trick! No train can go through here." She closes the door.
Then the short ghost floats up with another door, "Here. Try this one."
She opens this one to reveal a cloak spirit with a scythe. Far from being afraid she just scolded the spirit.
"Put that sickle away! You're not supposed to run or fly with sharp things!"
She closes the door as she turns away as a piece of the scythe skewers through the door.
Then the large ghost brings another door and says, "Over here. Over here."
Tazita opens the door and a floating head with wild hair is shown which screams showing crooked teeth.
"It's rude to scream in people's faces and make yourself decent." She closes the door with pursed lips.
The ghosts visibly deflated, for they just can't scare the cup girl.
"Time to bring in the big guns." whispered the short one. Heading out to the graveyard, they tapped and knocked on the headstones to signal the other ghosts to come out. Many ghosts of shapes and sizes emerged and tried to do their spooky stunts.
They do their wails, boos, whacking thumping, which usually scares the average individual.
Tazita only looks annoyed at the noise. "A little less noise there please!" She yelled; it becomes quiet.
"I can't even hear myself think or daydream around here."
She began sit in front of the hearth to keep warm. Next thing she knows figures and shapes began appearing out of the fire.
The three ghosts try flying in front of her and make their signature scary faces.
But the girl just watched.
More ghosts emerged from the fire, to try to scare the cupgirl. One was had a skull head with bits of hair on its sides while it wore rags.
Another ghost was a bearded one wearing a suit with a small tophat.
Then another female ghost emerged with long hair and a ragged dress who cackled.
There was even a ghost of a viking in the shape of skeleton with his skeleton horse that came bounding into the room.
Another was the ghost of a convict that looked attached to an electric chair.
Some ghosts were even goofy looking almost clown like. Even the skeletons from earlier tried chattering and began dancing in front of her.
Tazita just smiled, because it reminded her of a holiday that was required to dress up. But since she lived in her cottage with her aunt she never was allowed to go and collect treats or celebrate it with other children. Then again, the only costumes she possibly would've been allowed to wear would be adorable and pretty.
One of the ghosts began playing with its head like a ball. It places its head back before trying to make a scary pose to the cup girl.
Tazita only replied calmly. "I get it You're trying scare me."
A sound effect which was like a balloon deflating sounded. Figuratively, the ghosts were upset that the cup girl didn't become frightened.
Though one tried to perform a fire trick only impressing her.
"Oh, come on!" groaned the lady ghost "We're ghosts! Isn't' that scary?"
"No." Tazita shook her head. "Sorry, I know I should but I don't. I was never allowed to see scary stuff. Because my aunt didn't let me do anything. I have heard of fear and seen it, but I never experienced it."
"Now she tells us!" The short one says facepalming.
"Not even the devil himself?" asked the large one.
"I'd have to meet him face to face to see what's so intimidating but I'm not dumb. I know a jerk when I see one." Answered Tazita
"So now what do what we do now?!" groaned one of the ghosts.
"We could play some games." Suggested Tazita
To make time the ghosts, and skeletons made a game of bowling using bones and skulls which the girl didn't mind.
So Tazita and her newfound friends, bowled into the night. The thunderous sounds and raucous laughter terrified the nearby creatures in the area. Some creatures and inhabitants of the inkwell were already home and didn't bother to check the noise in the old chapel.
Back in the cottage, the boys couldn't sleep. They were both worried about Tazita after that incident involving the ghosts.
"That's it!" Cuphead relented, "I can't sleep!"
"Me either! Let's go check on her!"
Cuphead and Mugman rush to the cemetery to check on Tazita. The true miracle was despite their fear, they actually braved the graveyard without running.
They couldn't find her outside, and the place was eerily quiet. They then search the chapel, then find her sleeping curled up in one of the pews close to where the altar would be.
Relieved, they walked up to their new friend and gently shook her shoulder.
"Hey, Tazita, wake up." Mugman said.
"Come one, you made it through the night." said Cuphead
Tazita stirred, she sat up and yawned. "Is it morning already?"
"Not exactly," replied Mugman
"Didn't the ghosts spook ya?" inquired Cuphead
"They were a few but I don't see what's all the excitement's about."
The boys groaned, apparently Tazita still hadn't experienced fear. Back to the drawing board to figure out what scares the girl.
And the worry of being caught and dragged back to the cottage by the aunt doesn't count. However, in the future, she will know the meaning of fear.
