A/N This chapter will be going to a dragon on Grairokora. It will be the only one for a little bit doing that. The next chapter will be going back to the group. As always, enjoy!
Chapter 10
Amethyst
Amethyst ran through the tall grass away from a dragon. She didn't know if she could outrun them. Her glistening scales gave her position like nothing else. She dove into the water hoping to escape the chaser. The dragon dived in behind her. She got a good look at them. Silver along every scale made her sure of what tribe it was. A Silverwing. He had long sharp claws outstretched and reaching for her.
Two splashes came from the top of the water. Two more dragons, both pearly white, dove in and grabbed the Silverwing. It thrashed in their talons and escaped, flying up and out of the water.
Amethyst went to the surface taking in air. "Jade. Jasper."
The other two came up as well. "What was that?" Jade asked.
"A Silverwing." Amethyst gasped.
"What are they doing here?" Jasper growled.
"I don't know." Amethyst swam to the beach. "They have never attacked us."
"We need to tell Queen Topaz." Jade stood on the wet sand. "She needs to know they attacked you."
"Did you do anything to provoke them?" Jasper turned to her.
Amethyst shook her head. "No. I was out on patrol and he started chasing me."
"Alright. Let's go then." Jasper took off into the air. Jade and Amethyst took off after him. The three of them stayed low in the trees, careful not to be seen from the sky.
The trees grew taller and taller as they came closer to the Palace. Small white pillars marked where it was. On the far ends in each direction were holes. Holes large enough to fit ten dragons comfortably. Amethyst and the others dove down one to a lit up corridor leading down.
Down they went following the glowing crystal path. Soon they came to a stop at a fork in the path. One way was to the palace. The other to the main area for the dragons to shop and talk. If you were to follow the path away from the court yard you would find the individual sleeping caves for families.
Amethyst followed Jade and Jasper as they turned left and followed it till they reached large wooden doors. The wood was old, small holes in it from wear. Two guards stood at the doors, both wearing metal armor.
"We request an audience with the Queen." Jasper said.
"On what grounds?" One of the guards growled.
"On the ground that Silverwings are attacking us." Jade growled back.
Both the guards looked at each other in disbelief. One of them looked back at Jade. "Where's your proof?"
Amethyst stepped forward. "I'm the proof."
The guard eyed her down. "One second," he growled.
The guard opened the wooded doors, leaving the other guard by himself. Amethyst could hear muffled voices through the door. She wanted to get closer but the guard would surely stop her.
The guard came out and looked at the three. "You may enter." He, and the other guard, opened the doors. Jade walked in with Amethyst and Jasper at his side.
The palace was not much of a palace. It was a large cavern room filled with scrolls, tables and a throne. On one wall was a set of golden armor and a matching spear. The throne was at the back wall. On top of it was the Queen. She was a pale iridescent yellow with white accents in her colors. Around her neck was one of the last large pearls on Grairokora, and probably the world.
Amethyst bowed, her wings spread out. "Your majesty."
Queen Topaz stood up right away. "What is this I hear about Silverwings attacking us?"
Amethyst stood up to face her. "While I was on patrol I was attacked by a Silverwing."
The Queen's face turned from neutral to furious. "That traitorous snake." she growled. "He said he would continue the trading." She thrashed her tail.
"Who?" Jade asked.
"Who else," Topaz growled. "King Alistar. I should have listened to the rumors. He's trying to take over the continent."
Amethyst trembled. "Take over the continent. We need to warn the other tribes."
"Agate," Queen Topaz yelled.
"Yes, your majesty?" a multi-colored Crystalwing came out of a hallway.
"Send a messenger to each tribe." She turned to him.
"Yes. Of course." Agate ran out to gather the messengers.
"Obsidian. Tiger's Eye. Get in here." She yelled another time.
Both the guards from outside came into the palace with a blank expression. "Yes?"
"We need a full lock down." She got up. "Get the Warriors to shut the doors. Emergency hatch must be open." Queen Topaz left the room.
"What do we do?" Amethyst asked the two.
"We do what the Queen wants." Jasper said. "Let's go to the Northern Entrance. We need to close it."
Amethyst raced down the halls with Jasper and Jade. The three of them looped around the palace when they heard the Queen.
Queen Topaz had a room built so that sound could go through walls and reach any dragon anywhere. "This is your Queen. We need all entrances blocked immediately. I repeat all entrances blocked. This is not a drill. Silverwings are attacking. Do not panic."
Amethyst could almost hear the panic in the courtyard. She could feel it in herself. They continued going across the wide overhanging archway that hung over the courtyard. If you wanted to, you could fly from the ground to the archway. It was open on the sides.
They raced across the pathway to a large room filled with weapons. Down a hall on the other side was the entrance. She was about to reach for the large trap door when a silver talon clawed at her. She moved out of the way just in time, as a large Silverwing emerged from the entrance.
"What do we have here?" He growled.
Amethyst threw up her wings, reflecting the light from the crystals. The Silverwings didn't seem bothered by it. He walked closer to her.
Suddenly a wing smacked the Silverwing in the face hard. Amethyst could hear the sickening crack. The Silverwing tumbled over, unconscious.
"Hey guys." A dragon said from the side. He was a jittery dragon, the color of dragon's blood calcite. She breathed a sigh of relief.
"Calcite what are you doing here?" Jade walked up to him.
"Saving your tails, apparently." he smiled a goofy smile.
"Our tails didn't need saving." Amethyst rolled her eyes.
"It sure looked like it." Calcite countered.
"Oh enough of it you two." Jasper said, poking the Silverwing. "We need to close the entrance."
"Right." Amethyst walked over to the door. She pulled it up and clipped it in place, tugging it slightly. It hung there not moving.
"What do we do with this?" Jasper growled at the Silverwing.
"Lock him in the dungeon." Calcite walked up to him. "I'll tell mother about him when I meet with her."
"Does she even know your back?" Amethyst asked.
"No." He shook his head. "I just got back when I saw him entering." he jerked his head to the Silverwing.
"Here." Jade pulled down some chains off the wall. "Let's put these on him."
They clipped two chains around his front wrists. Calcite put a round metal bar around the Silverwings snout, making him unable to breathe fire. He also clipped a round bar around his neck.
"Let's go." They each grabbed him and staggered down the corridor.
Amethyst could hear the panic of dragons as they crossed the overhanging hall of the courtyard. The Queen was at the head of the group, trying to calm her subjects.
"Wait here." Calcite said, letting go of the Silverwing. He dove down towards the crowd as Amethyst and the others held up the Silverwing.
Calcite landed in front of the Queen and pointed up towards them. The Queen looked up and nodded. She then cut off the dragon speaking to her and took off, her wing wind blowing back the others. She landed in front of Amethyst and the others.
"Take him to the dungeons." She turned around. "Come on. Quickly."
They followed her down a path Amethyst didn't know very well. It twisted down and down until ending in a cold room filled with metal cells.
"In here." Topaz flicked her tail towards one. Jade pulled him ahead and into the cell with Jasper's help. "Undo his chains."
Amethyst watched as Jade worked his talons around the chains, unhooking them away from the Silverwing. Jade took the last chain and closed the cell door. He locked it.
Topaz walked over to an underwater stream that ran from the Courtyard to the dungeons. It was freezing cold water. She filled a bucket with the frozen water and splashed the Silverwing. He writhed back, gasping as the cold shook woke him up. As he made eye contact with Queen Topaz he suddenly seemed to shrink. He had no intention to meet the Crystalwing Queen under these terms.
"What," Topaz hissed deadly. "Is your name?"
The Silverwing cowered to one side, silent. Topaz moved closer and hissed. "You name." She yelled.
"Argent." he spurted out.
"Good." Topaz snorted. She walked back up the twisting corridor to the Courtyard. The Silverwing gave a sigh of relief.
Calcite walked up to the cell. "Why did you attack?"
Argent looked up, smirking. "Because I was ordered to."
