Fiamma and the three Lokis, all in their visibly Jotun forms, entered Jotunheim, following the Loki who had been to their homeworld the most. They approached the area where previously, the detective and his brother's team found Loki's biological father. Soon, they noticed a group of Frost Giants begin to surround them.
"Stop there." A deep, raspy voice echoed. "You three, what is a Fire Giant doing here?"
"Me? I'm only escorting King Laufey's long-lost son back to his people." Fiamma snarked.
"What?" Laufey stepped out from the shadows, looking over each of his shorter guests until Ninja Loki stepped forward.
"She is referring to me. Are you..."
"...I am Laufey, King of Jotunheim. And you... I thought Odin killed you... six centuries ago."
Kōrima nodded. "That's how long ago I was first adopted by the humans. I do not remember how I came to be on Earth, nor do I have memories of this planet or its inhabitants. I was given the name Kōrima by the inhabitants of Earth, specifically the Japanese, and I... I grew up believing I was human. But I have just recently been told my name is Laufeyson Loki, and this is where I am from. Now I am finally home, it seems."
Laufey grinned. "Perhaps it was fortunate that the humans took you before the Asgardians did; now that you have returned to us, we can take revenge on the Allfather Odin!"
"That name again... who is this Odin?" Kōrima wondered.
"It was he and his army of Asgardians who cost us our victory over that planet that kept you from us and stunted your growth, he who forced us into submission, stole our source of power, the Casket of Ancient Winters, from our realm, leaving Jotunheim a desolate wasteland, and he who murdered your mother in his so-called quest for peace!"
"I am sorry to hear that. And... what kind of people are Asgardians?"
"A short but fierce warrior race, pink to brown skin with that unsightly string on their heads like yours... what was it called?"
"Hair?"
"Yes. They are similar to the humans, only somewhat more athletic, and they have a habit of sticking their noses into the affairs of others!"
"So Odin killed Far- erm, Queen Farbauti?" Detective Loki repeated. "During the war for Tønsberg with the Asgardians?"
"Just before he took our casket." Laufey turned to the mischievous couple. "And who are you two? You look just like my son, the male in particular, and both of you like my late wife."
"We are him, just from different time periods and alternate universes."
Laufey scrunched his face. "Alternate universes? What does that mean, outside the nine realms?"
"Mmm... quite a bit bigger." Sylvie replied. "Alternate realities is a better term, universes similar to everything you know with minor variations. It's pretty heavy stuff to take in at first, we know!"
"Indeed it is." Detective Loki concurred. "In other words, the two of us are the children of two identical yet completely separate Laufeys, who each hail from two identical and completely separate Jotunheims. Does this make sense?"
"...I wouldn't go that far, but I understand the gist of it." Laufey answered. "So, my son, will you aid us in our uprising to take back what is rightfully ours?"
Kōrima hesitated. "I only just found my way here, and you're asking me to go to war for you, with an enemy I know very little about?"
"Are you afraid? Has the soft-heartedness of the mortals rubbed off on you?" The young ninja glared at his biological father, his undeterred gaze answering for him. "Good."
"Now hold on!" Detective Loki interjected. "I do know about the Asgardians, like the indisputable fact that you do not want to challenge Odin and especially not Thor!"
"Odin is old and feeble now, a shadow of the mighty warrior he once was, and his son is an arrogant boy, sheltered and pampered by his royal family... he knows nothing of the horrors of war."
"Arrogant, yes, pampered, a bit, but Thor would all but jump at chance to slaughter as many Frost Giants as he can, and trust me, he can! I grew up with him after Odin took me as a baby... long story short, I had to drag the truth of my own heritage out of Odin myself before I learned who I really was, so I know firsthand that Thor is the last person you want to underestimate in battle!"
"I should have guessed... you talk like an Asgardian." Laufey noticed.
"And then there's Heimdall: he sees everything in the nine realms, and if your army takes one step out of this realm, he'll alert the Asgardians, and they'll just send their own army after you like they did back on Midgard."
"So what would you have us do?"
Detective Loki sighed. "I know you're angry at Odin for wronging you, and you're grieving your queen, but your son is alive and has returned to you! At least for now, why don't you two take advantage of the Asgardians' not being allowed in your realm and spend some quality, peaceful father-son bonding time together? I mean, that is what Loki means in our native language: peace."
"I know what your name means." Laufey replied. "It was your mother who chose that name, not me, and she got her peace... the hard way. We need to take back our casket from the Asgardians before any more of our people suffer from the damage Odin has done to our world."
Kōrima looked around him while his father spoke, taking in the desolate state his home and his people were in, and he understood what needed to be done. He sighed. "Over my many years on Earth, I snuck around and killed those who stood in my way. I told myself those days were done, but it would seem that I have one more mission to complete, a people in need of my assistance... so I will get you your casket back. However, I will only kill those whom I deem absolutely necessary. Are we agreed?"
Sylvie turned to her fiancé and asked him telepathically, "You have one of those caskets, don't you?"
"I do." Her Loki responded. "Do you think I should give it to them?"
"I think you should help them take it backkk!" Healer joined them. "The Assgardians do not need it, but the Frost Giants dooo. Also, Odin is a glorified turd!"
"Yeah, I knew he was an eight-legged horse's ass, but can't believe he murdered our mother!" Sylvie exclaimed.
Loki stared down pensively. "Perhaps I should get Ms. Willis back on the line to be sure, but if Laufey is indeed telling the truth, I wonder... did Odin only kill her in this timeline, or in all of them? If it's the former, then maybe that event influenced Kōrima's upbringing taking place on Earth?"
"There you gooo, overthinking things again..."
"There you go, underthinking things again..."
"Yesss! You see how perfect a match we are now?"
"Really." Sylvie smirked at them. "Still, if those Frost Giants get their casket back, they'll start a war with Asgard!"
"They'll start a war with Asgard regardless." Loki argued. "Only with their casket, they'll stand a better chance of surviving."
"Mayyybe you two could gang up on Odin and tickle him until he surrenders..."
"Oh zip it, smartass!" Sylvie snapped.
"It wouldn't work anyhow; I don't think Odin even knows how to laugh." Loki quipped. He then turned serious. "Hmmm... even if I did give them my casket and the Frost Giants miraculously chose not to use it against the Asgardians or Midgardians again, Heimdall would be able to see they have another casket while Odin is still in possession of the original. Either way the Asgardian army would eventually come here, so it really doesn't matter which universe's casket they have, as long as they're sneaky enough not to get caught."
"And we are." Sylvie affirmed. "But you have a point... it would be less confusing for both sides not to introduce another universe's Casket of Ancient Winters into the mix."
Loki frowned. "That said, the first time I let Frost Giants into the palace, they were vaporized by the Destroyer... of course, that was after I stopped concealing their presence from Heimdall and Odin. Perhaps we should merely warn them of the dangers and take our leave? We are outsiders to this realm, and this isn't part of our case."
"It isss if we make it part of our case!"
Sylvie nodded. "I agree with the blob; that's up to us to decide together. I say we help our ninja variant out, score him some points with his new family, but what do you wanna do? We can tell Mobius to wait for us either way, after he returns the treasures."
"Hmmm... well, Kōrima seems to have made up his mind on the matter... why don't we lend him a hand for now and go from there?" Loki turned to to talk with him privately. "Kōrima, wait! I know you're exceptionally skilled at retrieving legendary relics, but you should know that even if you manage to get past Heimdall's sight, which I doubt, the Asgardians, namely Odin, will still feel the chill of your presence, and he'll send the Destroyer after you in a heartbeat!"
"You forget my title: Kōrima the Undying. I've lived this long without even sustaining injury, and I'm no fool; I won't be destroyed so easily!"
"You gravely underestimate your upcoming enemies... picture this: the Destroyer is a living suit of armor, able to shoot superheated laser beams of heat from its face at breakneck speed that can vaporize you in an instant, and it will not stop until its adversary is destroyed, hence its name! Now if I go in your stead, I could take the casket without being spotted, as I don't emanate frost into my surroundings, but only to help our people restore their realm to its natural state, not to restart the Jotun-Asgardian war."
"And I suppose you want the credit for retrieving this casket for our father?" Kōrima guessed.
"On the contrary, he's from your timeline, so he's more your father than mine. I'll let you take credit for this one; I already did something similar for my Laufey, so I do have prior experience as a bonus, but I've had my chance already."
Kōrima narrowed his eyes. "Maybe, but we were enemies ourselves not long ago, and yet you claim to be willing to help me like this without even taking credit? And why would a detective steal another treasure after recovering three on Earth? I find that very suspicious..."
Loki nodded. "I suppose you'd be a fool not to, but I'm not doing it for you. I'm doing it so you don't attract the attention of my adoptive race and turn my adoptive father and brother on our biological family. And the casket belongs to the Jotuns; the Asgardians are the ones who stole it from them, so I'm simply returning another treasure to its rightful owner. In short, I wish to keep peace in as many universes as I can, while uncovering truths hidden by deceit and scheming in my detective work. Though I am a bit partial to helping out other variants of myself."
"Hmmm... and if you're really me, why don't you exude frost around you like I do? Perhaps your appearance is merely a very complicated illusion that you have me under, and you truly are a messenger of Amaterasu or even this Odin!"
"I don't when in Asgardian form because Odin transformed me into such with his magic, his Odinforce, if you will. I can shapeshift between forms now, but my everyday form is still Asgardian, so I can easily blend in, both on Asgard and Midgard's Earth. So, are we agreed?"
Kōrima hesitantly nodded, and his variant walked off to find his secret passage from Jotunheim to Asgard. Concealing his presence once more, he entered through to the other side, making his way down to his ex-father's vault and easily sneaking past the guards. However, Detective Loki felt a chill run down his spine as he neared the casket; he looked around apprehensively, hoping his hunch was wrong.
"Kōrima, you'd better not have followed me down here!" Loki aimed the telepathic accusation, and he was exasperated to discover his hunch was indeed correct when Healer pointed out his variant's presence by the casket. "You seriously mistrust me that much!?"
"Of course, I told you I'm no fool!" Kōrima telepathically replied. As he tried to grab it, Loki telekinetically shoved his variant just before a beam of fiery energy hit him.
"Yes you are, you've alerted Odin to our presence!" Loki admonished as his variant cast illusions of himself to distract the automaton. The guards looked around them, just now seeing Kōrima after feeling his signature Jotun chill. Loki then hid grabbed the casket and ran back to the exit, warily dodging heated blasts aimed for the icy treasure! "If the Destroyer doesn't kill you, remind me to kill you!"
Kōrima froze the Destroyer's eyes, and Loki did the same. Loki then hid both his variant and the casket from sight, before the guards could find the real Kōrima, and he signaled for his variant to follow as they made a mad run for the secret passageway.
"Wait, we don't want the Asgardians to find the passage to Jotunheim!" Loki then opened a portal there with his TemPad while their robotic pursuer blasted the ice from its face. As they made their escape, they heard a boom of thunder from the vault. Detective Loki shook his head in dismay. "Now you've done it."
Inside the vault, Odin spoke with the guards as Thor seethed. "As I feared, Frost Giants have escaped with the casket. They were hidden from sight, under some sort of spell, so we couldn't tell how many snuck in, but thankfully, and miraculously, no one was hurt."
"Not for long!" Thor countered. "The Jotuns will pay for stealing from the King of Asgard!"
"And do you speak for the King of Asgard now, my son? You still have a long way to go before you take the throne from me."
"Father, you are going to Jotunheim to take the casket back, are you not? Let me come with you!"
Odin shook his head. "It is a relic of Jotunheim, and my truce with their King Laufey still stands; he wouldn't dare break it now, even with the casket."
"So you're just going to let those Jotuns get away with it and trust that they will keep their truce after they just broke it, that those monsters will keep the peace after they just committed an act of war!?"
"Is it an act of war when they made sure not to harm any of our people? And if I did journey to Jotunheim and you joined me, would you be going in the name of peace, my son, or merely as a warrior craving battle?"
"If it comes to battle, I will fight alongside you always, but for now I want answers, such as why they would have the audacity to steal from us?!"
"As I said, the casket is Jotun; they believe it's their birthright."
"And how did they not only sneak past Heimdall into Asgard, but escape the Destroyer unscathed!?"
Odin paused. "...To be truthful, I would like to know that as well. To hide their presence from even Heimdall's sight... they must have recruited a sorcerer, perhaps one of the Vanir?" Odin shook his head again. "For now, we will find any breach in our defenses and seal it immediately! You stay here, Thor; I will tell you what you wish to know when I return."
"But Father-!"
"Do not argue, boy, you stay here!"
Knowing he couldn't argue any further, Thor stormed off. Odin sighed and searched the area for the Lokis' way in.
