The two Lokis returned to Jotunheim, where the detective handed the Casket of Ancient Winters to the shinobi.
"Back there..." Kōrima panted. "You- you saved my life after I put us both in danger. Why?"
"Well, you're me, and I've been trying very hard over the past year or so not to hate myself anymore." Detective Loki explained. "But we have more pressing matters to deal with now, thanks to you, so you give your father his casket before Thor tries to throttle you for it!"
"Our brother?"
"My brother, actually; he and I grew up under Odin together." A look of anxious realization then crossed Loki's face. "Oh that's right... he won't know me here... he'll see me as another Jotun, a simple monster who must either fear him or die. Well, things just keep getting brighter, don't they?"
Kōrima thought for a minute. "Then I'll tell Father we stole the casket together, and then you can deal with your adoptive family." He brought the relic to his father.
"Good work, my son." Laufey complimented.
"The other Loki and I took it together." Kōrima admitted. "Will it take a while to return our home to its former state?"
Laufey smirked. "Patience, my son... in time, we can make it even better than it was. For now, we must prepare for the Asgardians."
While they discussed his biological father's plan, Kōrima's variant regrouped with Sylvie and Fiamma, explaining the situation to them and Mobius over the TemPads.
"And here I was thinking he was more like me." Sylvie remarked. "But he screwed up your mission as badly than you screwed up mine when we first met."
"Thanks for the reminder..." Loki sheepishly replied. "Chances are, Thor will come here against Odin's order like before, even without my encouragement, and this time he'll have no reason to listen to me at all!"
Mobius shrugged. "Maybe not, but you two still got along pretty well in Party Thor's timeline, so I'm sure you'll think of something."
"He'd better..." Fiamma hoped. "I don't want my potential mate to be electrocuted into ash, especially just when he just found his family!"
"Basically, I need to find a way to stop an oncoming war before it starts again!" Loki stated.
"Yeah, now's your big chance to redeem yourself after the last time this whole scenario played out!" Mobius said. "As long as you stay calm, think things all the way through, and don't make any drastic decisions."
"Yesss, you must relaxxx." Healer agreed. "You have a brilliant mind, and this time, you have us by your side, Lokiii, so you will not feel aloneee."
"Exactly!" Sylvie joined in. "Like I said before, whatever we decide, we'll decide it together, and I'll be by your side to keep you from planning anything too harebrained!"
"Well..." Mobius interjected. "I'll support you in spirit here on Earth, where it's nice and hospitable, okay?"
"I'd expect nothing less from my favorite therapist!" Loki grinned. "We'll meet you back at the first Japanese temple when we're finished here, Mobius."
"Will do." They ended the transmission, and the team on Jotunheim brainstormed ideas together. As the native giants utilized their casket to cool down their home, Fiamma approached Kōrima, trying not to shiver as the atmosphere grew even colder.
"And here I was thinking it couldn't get any colder." She commented.
"You don't need to stay here, do you? I mean... it's very kind of you to stay and help me, but... is this temperature not hazardous for your health? I wouldn't want you to get sick on my behalf, like the mortal detective did before."
Fiamma smirked. "I've survived cold and harsh environments before. Then again, I wore a specialized suit to the last frozen planet I visited, but I'm the eldest daughter of Surtur... I can manage. You're not getting soft on me now, are you, 'ice demon?'"
Kōrima shrugged. "I've lived more years than I can count of being cold and distant... maybe I'm ready to embrace my true name and the meaning that comes with it... peace."
Fiamma shrugged back. "Peace... sounds a bit boring to me, and I've lived for a few thousand years."
"Really? You don't look it." Kōrima said with a shy smile. "Anyway, from what you told me, it sounds like my first father and yours were cut from the same cloth, both pushing us along their path of war and battle, ashamed of us for failing their unrealistic expectations, but have you ever tried to settle down, be at peace with yourself and not live your life according to the expectations of others?" Fiamma didn't respond, pondering his words, so he continued. "Of course, that doesn't always mean staying out of trouble... I've never been very skilled at that!"
Fiamma's smirk returned. "Good for you: all work and no mischief makes Loki a dull and restless prince!" She glanced around at the Frost Giants restoring their ravaged lands. "It's wise of you to avoid starting a war with the Asgardians; I'm from the future, so I already know who would win."
Kōrima raised an eyebrow. "Are they really that fierce?"
Fiamma nodded and leaned in close to him. "And I'm an expert in fierce."
"Oh, are you now?" The blue shinobi leaned closer. "Show me."
Fiamma grappled the crown prince, finally letting her passions run wild as they made out in the nearby snow bank.
Loki grinned. "It looks like those two are making out pretty well."
"You know..." Sylvie began. "I just remembered the bum end of her deal... once she finds her true Loki, she has to return to that Niflheim prison. I wonder how she'll be able to break that to him?"
Loki exhaled. "That's a good question. Would she even tell him? Hm... at first, I thought it might be amusing to see all the different ways my variants would reject her, but honestly, now I'm really starting to root for her; she's come a long way emotionally since we first met! Part of me wants to hide her from my grandnieces, but I did promise them her immediate return, and they've been plenty lenient with us already!"
"Yeah, I know what you mean, but she still did burn down a lot of homes. Did they ever say how long her sentence was?"
"...Not that I can recall. Maybe she could get out for good behavior in... a decade or two?"
"Maybe." Sylvie glanced back at her and Kōrima. "For now, I suppose we should just let them have their moment while it lasts."
"I agree. Hopefully she'll be allowed visitors. " Loki smiled at Sylvie. "Hey, there's a snow bank not too far from here that hasn't been taken... shall we frolic?"
Sylvie raised an eyebrow. "Have we got time for that kind of mischief?"
"All the time in the multiverse."
When the Frost Giants had barely begun to piece one of their ruined structures back together, everyone on the planet saw the light of the Bifrost beam down from a distance, and the giants prepared themselves to meet their uninvited guests. They quickly surrounded Thor, Sif, and the Warriors Three as the quintet marched towards the central plaza.
Kōrima telepathically messaged his variant. "I take it the hairy blond with the oversized meat tenderizer is your brother?"
"He is. His official title is Thor, god of thunder, and you don't want to be on the other side of his hammer!"
"You've come a long way to die, Asgardians." Laufey coldly greeted them.
"I am Thor Odinson!"
"We know who you are."
"What we need to know is how your people got into Asgard!" Thor retorted.
Laufey thought back to Detective Loki's backstory. "The house of Odin is full of traitors."
"Do not dishonor my father's name with your lies!" Thor shouted.
"Your father is a murderer and a thief! He stole what was ours and left our world in ruins. We have the right to reclaim the casket."
"Not when you would use it to make war against other realms!"
Laufey scoffed, almost amused at the irony. "And you... why have you come here, to make peace? You long for battle; you crave it! You're nothing but a boy trying to prove himself a man."
"Well, this 'boy' has grown tired of your mockery!" Thor stepped forward threateningly, the Jotun soldiers reciprocating before Detective Loki spoke.
"Wait!" Thor turned to him, who was still in Jotun form. "I'm the one who returned the Casket of Ancient Winters here, and I for one wouldn't mind one bit regaling you with my story of how I did it!" Loki studied Thor's impatient expression. "If that's what you really want to hear, that is."
"Speak, Jotun!"
"Very well. First, I took a secret passage to Asgard. Second-"
"Where is this passage!?"
"Rude, I was still speaking! Hold your horses there, I still haven't answered your first question yet." Loki sassed. "Anyway if I told you, it wouldn't be a secret passage anymore, would it?" A few of the Jotuns chuckled while Thor gritted his teeth. "Second-"
"You will give us answers, thief!" Thor pointed Mjolnir in Loki's direction until Kōrima joined the fray.
"Please let him tell the whole story, Prince Odinson. I helped him take our casket back, and we did not harm anyone when we did so, so you have no reason to harm us."
"Huh, they even have identical twins here." Volstagg whispered.
"And yet, those fellows are the only two who don't look exactly the same as the rest of the herd!" Fandral noted. "They're actually quite quaint, around our height, and their manner of dress and speech is similar to ours. That one in particular has much better manners than I'd expect from a giant... mayhaps he is half Vanir?"
"Would you shush!?" Sif scolded.
"Moreover, they're quite handsome, nearly as handsome as an Asgardian!"
"And they'll likely treat you no less coldly!"
"But no more coldly than thee. Look, they even have a Frost Maiden as well, and she is rather fair!"
"And she is rather pregnant!"
"Stop this whispering about them before they decide to kill us all!" Hogun berated.
"And she is my fiancée, so if you make one move on her, you'll end up rather sorry." Loki addressed his friend's variant, and then he nodded to his own variant. "Thank you, Kōri."
Kōrima nodded back. "We only just recently found our way here, after I had been stranded on Earth since the war between our peoples, and when our father told us our history and how much our realm's state has diminished without our casket, we made it our mission to bring prosperity back to our home. We don't want to start a war with anyone."
"Back to the story, I was able to hide us both from Heimdall with a spell of concealment, and we wouldn't have alerted the Destroyer either, if someone could control his frost!" Loki hinted. "But like he said, no one was harmed, so all is well. Any questions, Thor?"
Thor glanced between the two of them, squinting at Detective Loki. "And who are you to address me with such bold familiarity?"
"We are the sons of Laufey, he the crown prince like you, so we speak as royalty to royalty. You can call me Loki."
Laufey narrowed his eyes at his detective son, feeling he was telling the enemy too much, but he let his estranged son speak.
"And how did you learn such powerful magic? Are you in league with the Vanir!?"
"In terms of skills, we're certainly in their league, to say the least, but they didn't teach us." While Loki distracted his brother's variant, Sylvie had snuck over to him, ready to enchant him into leaving, but Sif noticed her, and she and Hogun blocked her way to Thor. Her fiancé then moved in to protect her and continued with his tale. "I learned from my mother... well, my adoptive mother, who did indeed learn from the Vanir, while Kōrima was mostly self-taught. Have you any more questions for us?"
"Please say no, please say no..." Fandral and Volatagg quietly chanted.
"I have one more." Thor stated. "How can we be sure you won't use that icy weapon of yours to lay waste to Midgard as you once did, or another unsuspecting realm? Especially with access to the other realms with your magic portals!"
"Good, I'm actually getting him to keep talking and listening." Loki thought. "I feared he was going to hurl that hammer straight through my head!"
"What's there to fear? You are worthyyyy." Healer asked.
"That doesn't matter, Odin hasn't placed any worthiness enchantments on Mjolnir yet!" Loki then spoke out loud. "Well, we can sneak past your sight on retrieval and reconnaissance trips, but we surely wouldn't be able to hide the unleashing of a full-blown ice age! The war is over, and our treaty yet stands; we will hold to that as long as you will."
"How dare you!?" Thor growled. "You would question our morality after you committed treason by entering Asgard without permission?"
"And you have done the same by entering Jotunheim without permission." Laufey interjected. "That is the only reason I have let you live this long, but your questions have been more than answered. Now be on your way... go, while I still allow it."
Thor glared at Laufey and the two male Lokis while his allies' expressions pleaded him to relent. He tightened his grip on Mjolnir, itching for a fight.
"Yes, Odinson... go on and start your war." Fiamma muttered, gaining his attention.
"You're in league with Muspelheim then? Does Surtur know of your secret passageway as well!?"
"Oh, we know our own way in... and personally, I would love the chance to be able to take the Eternal Flame and power up my father, the great Muspel king, while Asgard is busy declaring war on the Jotuns."
Thor shook his head. "Cowards, every single one of you! But Asgard will be prepared for any attack, no matter what realm from whence the intruders come!"
Fiamma scoffed. "If that's true, then how the Jotuns get their casket back!" Thor glared at her, but Kōrima stepped in front of the Muspeless.
"Please... leave us be." Kōrima pleaded. "At least let us rebuild our home."
Thor considered the polite giant and very reluctantly turned back.
However, one of the nearby Frost Giants added. "Run back ho-" But his mouth suddenly closed as he was speaking as if by magic.
Loki gulped, thinking. "I had forgotten which of them said that, but without the 'little princess' remark, perhaps Thor could somehow manage to overlook it?" Thor glanced in the smart-mouthed Jotun's direction, that bloodlusted look in his eye. "No, I suppose not!"
"Can I say it?"
"No, you cannot!"
"Come onnn, he's about to attack anyway!"
"You can call one of the Thors that doesn't want to kill us a little princess... one that's mature enough to let it go!"
"That is no funnn..."
"Ohhh... but that gives me an idea!"
"We're not going home without that casket!" Thor promised.
"Then you are not going home." Laufey intimidated back.
Before either side could strike, the son of Odin was interrupted as Loki abruptly belted out a chorus of his favorite Frozen song, the prince singing so loudly that some of the ice began to crack! Thor, his friends, and his fellow giants alike all stared at him in bewilderment. With a wave of his hand, the song's accompaniment echoed around them, and many of the giants bobbed their heads or tapped their toes in enjoyment as it played, plus Volstagg and Fandral eventually found themselves swaying to the melody. Soon Healer's voice joined him in an attempt at harmony, prompting Loki to gesture for Sylvie to join them during the song's bridge, and she began to regret her promise of carrying out their whole plan together, but she sang with him nonetheless.
Suddenly, another beam of rainbow colored light came from the Bifrost, and through it entered Odin on his 8-legged steed, Sleipnir!
