Washington Platform: Zoe vs Harper
"Okay, I do not want to do that workout again." Harper stated.
"Girl you're telling me. I just want to head back to the barracks and take a shower." Zoe groaned.
"Do you think..Ben will be at the barracks?" Harper asked.
"Seriously!? When are you just going to ask him out?" Zoe questioned.
Harper blushed profusely, her face reaching levels of red Zoe didn't know she could reach.
"Seriously!? I'm going to tell him myself how you feel the next time I see him or so help me..!" Zoe threatened.
Harper reached out and grabbed her friend around the mouth, clamping it shut. "Sshhhhhh!!! He'll hear you!" She backed up and let go of Zoe "Okay, okay, I'll tell him, I just..need to gather my courage is all. This isn't easy for me you know!"
"Uh huh. Puh-lease, it's as easy as 1, 2, 3. Girl I've already told my man how I feel, and we've been happily together for weeks." Zoe stated.
"Uh, you seem to want to forget that, even though you and I haven't been talking much before the last week and a half, I was watching you two from afar and how much you two struggled to get off the ground." Harper remembered.
Zoe glared daggers at Harper for that one. "You, what did you say!?"
"Uh, I saw how hard it was for you and Jeremiah to get together. You may have been outgoing, but he wasn't interested at first, but you kept at it until.." A palm slamming to the wall beside her, silenced Harper.
"You saw nothing! Got it! My personal life is not open for discussion!" Zoe demanded.
"Oh, and you get to stick your nose into mine as you please!? Don't give me that shit Zoe!" Harper stated. "I was merely stating the fact that we have more similarities than differences. I wasn't prying into your life, I was just being observant. Everyone saw it, you didn't make it a secret when you were doing it!" Harper mentioned.
Zoe stayed silent for a moment, then backed away. She stood there looking down, her fist clenched. "I'm sorry." She said under her breath.
Harper didn't hear her, "What was that?"
"I said I'm sorry a'ight!! I..I'm just sensitive about my personal life is all." Zoe said.
"Okay, but don't get mad at someone else if you're the one always prying into their life, when they want or already have some insight into your own. I mean, we're on space ships, in space! How much privacy do you think we'll actually have out here?" Harper noted.
"Yeah, okay. Sorry. Hey, after we shower, how about we have a friendly duel?" Zoe asked.
"Sure!" Harper replied.
After they had cleaned up and had gone to the commons to get some food, they moved over to the designated duel training fields, waiting for their turn.
"Ready Harper?" Zoe asked.
"Ready!" Harper answered.
"Duel!" They said together.
"I'll go first, I draw!" Harper said. "I set one monster in defense and one card facedown. That ends my turn."
Two card backs appeared on her field.
"I draw. I special summon Superheavy Samurai Thief in attack mode."
A large machine, all brown, green and grey, stood up from the card.
"Then I normal summon Flutist in attack mode, and activate its ability to tribute itself and special summon a new Samurai from my hand in its place, I special summon Battleball in defense mode." Zoe said.
A smaller machine, violet and carrying a flute, while playing the flute it sank back into its own card then a small round ball of a machine, brown and brass, took its place.
"Now battle! Thief attack her facedown monster!" Zoe commanded.
"Reveal Ehero Woodsman with 2000 defense!" Harper countered.
The wooded warrior, green and brown of the forest, held up an arm made of wood out to block the attack, then drew back it's other arm to slam onto the enemy dealing -1000 damage. 7000lp
"Alright, now during my main phase two, I use Battleballs ability and because all I have are Superheavy Samurai on my field, I can use Battleball and your Woodsman as material to synchro summon!" Zoe stated.
"What!?" Harper asked.
"I tune your level four Woodsman and my level two Battleball to synchro summon level six Ogre Shutendoji in defense mode!"
The two monsters went into the air, Battleball turned into green glowing rings, Woodsman flew into them becoming four stars. Then a beam of light shot straight down and formed a big stocky ogre with red and yellow armor, carrying a massive club sitting cross-legged on the field.
"When Ogre Shutendoji is summoned, I can destroy all your spell and trap cards!" Zoe stated.
"No!" Harper shouted.
"I think that's enough damage for now. I end my turn." Zoe said.
"Hm, I draw. I summon Stratos in attack mode!"
Shooting out of the card and taking to the air, different hues of blue to match the sky, and metal armor and wings with turbines to fly.
"He allows me to search my deck for a new hero. I search out Honest Neos! Now battle! Stratos attack her Thief!"
Flying high into the air, looping over head then screaming down to slice the machine in half dealing -800 damage. 6200lp
"I end my turn." Harper said.
"I draw. From my hand, I equip Soulbang Cannon onto my Ogre Shutendoji. Raising his defense by 1000." Zoe said.
"What!?" Harper asked.
An extra machine, blue and yellow, attached to the arm of the ogre.
"Then I set one monster in defense mode. Now battle! Ogre Shutendoji attack her Stratos!" Zoe commanded.
"I activate Honest Neos from my hand! By discarding him I can give Stratos 2500 extra attack points! That's 800 more than your monster!" Harper stated.
Wings of white, with gold tips formed on his back, he swoops underneath the attack, countering with a full body wing slam destroying the attacking monster and dealing -800 damage. 5400lp
"Grr! Fine then, I end my turn." Zoe said.
"I draw. I normal summon Ocean in attack mode."
Rising from the card as if it was water, blue as the sea and wearing grey metal armor, wielding a spear.
"Now battle! Stratos attack her facedown monster!" Harper commanded.
Flying high into the air, looping over and screaming down to cut the card in half.
"You destroyed my Drums, and when it goes to the graveyard, I can special summon one Superheavy Samurai from my graveyard. I special summon Ogre Shutendoji in defense mode!" Zoe stated.
The little machine vibrates with a beat that opens a portal to the underworld, raising the dead.
"Tch. I end my turn." Harper finished.
"I draw. I normal summon Fist in attack mode."
A medium sized machine, all gold and crimson, with one large fist.
"Then I tune level six Ogre Shutendoji and level two Fist to synchro summon a level eight Ninja Sarutobi in defense mode."
The two monsters went into the air, Fist turned into green glowing rings, Ogre Shutendoji flew into them becoming six stars, then a beam of light shot straight down and formed a large round machine, blue and grey from the light.
"Battle! Ninja Sarutobi attack her Stratos!"
Leaping forward, slamming into the monster with its fist, destroying it and dealing -1000 damage. 7000lp
"I end my turn." Zoe said.
"I draw. My Oceans ability allows me to reclaim a Hero from the graveyard or field to my hand. I choose Honest Neos. Then I activate the field spell Fusion Recycling Plant. This allows me to discard one card to gain one Polymerization from my deck or graveyard to my hand. I discard one card to gain Polymerization from my deck. Next I'll activate Polymerization, I fuse one hero from my hand and one water monster on my field to fusion summon Absolute Zero in attack mode!"
A pool of swirling colors formed on the floor, then the two monsters turned into flares and shot down into the vortex of color and a huge flash shot up. A warrior of all white ice armor and cape, slammed back down to the ground, sending ice in every direction.
"Now battle! I discard Honest Neos to give my Absolute Zero 2500 extra points to over power your Samurai!" Harper stated.
"Not so fast, I discard a card as well, Soulbuster Gauntlet, this doubles my monsters defense points to 5600! So my monster is safe from your attack and you're taking the damage!" Zoe countered.
A metal fist shot out and attached to the big blue machine, counter striking and destroying the monster dealing -600 damage. 6400lp
"Grr! When my Absolute Zero goes to the graveyard, every monster on your field is destroyed!" Harper said.
"What!?" Zoe shouted.
The air became frigid cold, and ice formed across the machine, then they suddenly cracked and crumbled to the ground.
"Now during my main phase two, I'll activate Fifth Hope, I can return 5 heros from my graveyard to the decks and reshuffle, then draw 2 new cards. I set one monster facedown and one card facedown. I end my turn, but during my end phase, Recycling Plant gives me a monster used for a fusion summon this turn. I recall Ocean to my hand. Your move." Harper said.
"I draw. I normal summon Swordsman in attack mode, but his effect turns him to defense mode. I end my turn." Zoe said.
A medium machine with crimson and black armor, bladed spear and massive left arm rose from the card, then immediately dropped to a cross-legged sitting position.
"I draw. I activate Recycling Plant again, discarding one card to gain a Polymerization from my deck. I gain Fusion Substitute. Now since I sent Necroshade to the graveyard, I can summon one hero from my hand, of level six and above, without a cost. So now I normal summon Bladedge in attack mode!"
A shadow formed a blackhole in the air and a larger gold armored hero, wielding large forearm blades, stepped out from the darkness.
"Battle! Baldedge attack her Swordsman! Oh and by the way, Bladedge can go through your monster to deal piercing damage!" Harper stated
"Grrr!?" Zoe growled.
Leaping forward with its forearm blades to slice the machine in half destroying it and dealing -800 damage. 4600lp
"I end my turn." Harper said.
"I draw. I summon Magnet in attack mode. His ability activates and immediately special summons another Samurai from my hand, then he automatically turns to defense mode. I special summon Soulpiercer in attack mode. That ends my turn." Zoe said.
A small machine, all blue and crimson with plus and minus signs on its body formed then it pointed at the players and and a smaller mechanical crossbow formed out as well.
"I draw. I activate Recycling Plant, discarding a card to gain Polymerization from my graveyard. I normal summon Ocean in attack mode. Next I'll activate Fusion Substitute to fuse one hero and one water monster on my field to fusion summon Absolute Zero in attack mode!!"
He slammed down to the ground again, sending ice in every direction.
"Now battle! Absolute Zero attack her Soulpiercer!" Harper commanded.
"Wrong! My Magnet pulls all attacks to himself!" Zoe countered.
The magnet used it's magnetism to pull the attack to itself.
"I end my turn." Harper
"I draw. I turn Soulpiercer to defense mode, then equip it with Soulclaw from my hand. Now Soulpiercer can't be destroyed in battle."
A small mechanical claw, blue and crimson, attached to the crossbow.
"I end my turn." Zoe said.
"I draw. I summon Wildheart in attack mode."
A native with tan skin and tattoos, wielding a large sword formed from the card.
"That ends my turn." Harper said.
"I draw. Tch! I end my turn." Zoe said unhappily.
"I draw. I activate Polymerization, I fuse one hero on my field with one light attribute monster in my hand to fusion summon The Shining in attack mode!"
A pool of swirling colors formed on the floor, then the two monsters turned into flares and shot down into the vortex of color and a huge flash shot up. A warrior clad in all white with a golden Halo of wings around him formed from the light, floating in place.
"And since the hero on my field I sent was Absolute Zero, all of your monsters are destroyed!" Harper stated.
The air became frigid cold again, ice formed across the machines, they suddenly cracked and crumbled to the ground.
"My field!" Zoe shouted.
"Next I use the Fusion Substitute in my graveyard, banishing it, to return a fusion monster to my extra deck from the graveyard, I can then draw one new card. Hm, now I activate E-emergency Call, this allows me to gain one hero from my deck to my hand. I choose Honest Neos. Now battle! Shining attack her directly to end this duel!" Harper commanded.
"That won't be enough, I'll still have life points left!" Zoe stated.
Harper waved the card in her hand. "Did we forget the card I just added to my hand? I discard Honest Neos to give Shining 2500 extra attack points raising him to 5000!" Harper said.
"No!" Zoe shouted.
White and gold wings formed on his back and he shot a beam of pure energy into Zoe dealing -5000 damage. 0lp
"AAAAHHHHHHH!!!!" Zoe flew back several feet tumbling hard before stopping.
Harper ran to her friend quickly, "Zoe!? Are you alright!?"
A small crowd gathered to see what had happened. Zoe had taken a hard fall and wasn't feeling well. Medics were brought in to take her to sickbay and check her out. Harper followed her friend to make sure she was okay.
"I can't tell you how she's doing, young lady, you're not a registered family and it's.." He was cut off by a pissed off young woman.
"What family!? She doesn't have family, doc! We're all orphans here, or a lot of us are, anyways, I'm the closest she has to a real family! You can't keep that information from me please!!" Harper was making a scene.
The doctor sighed. "Alright, you have a point, but we haven't changed the law since we left Earth, so they are still enacted." He said.
"So, what am I supposed to do if she has some sort of problem and she can't tell anyone how to help her and she dies from this!? She needs me to help take care of her for the time being and I need to know what's wrong with her to do that!" She stated.
Someone walked up from behind, hearing the loud conversation from down the hall.
"What seems to be the problem doc?" Sergeant Brier asked.
"Sergeant, her friend was injured during a duel and now she is demanding to know what's wrong with her. I'm still under oath and law for doctor/patient confidentiality. I just can't tell her anything unless she's family." He explained.
"Doc, I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that, we're all family here. Come on, let's toss those old rules out the airlock and make a judgement call here and now." Brier suggested.
The doctor thought for a moment then relented, telling Harper all she needed to know about Zoe's condition and how to look for signs for a few days to make sure nothing goes wrong. And to have her back next week for a check-up.
"You got it doc." Harper said confidently. "Oh, is there some note to give to the drill instructors to let them know to go easy on her for a couple days?" She asked.
"I'll take care of it, recruit." Brier stated.
