[Santalune Forest - Kalos Region]
A day has passed since Lincoln met the girl known as Serena. Since then he's been wondering what kind of training the girl would suggest for him to do in order to defeat Viola and earn himself his first gym badge.
The first time he took on the Santalune City gym leader, he couldn't defeat a single member of her team and ended up losing both of his Pokemon to her Surskit. He wondered who this trainer who he just met will help him overcome such a wall? He also wonder why she looks strangely familiar despite this being the first time he's met her...?
"So, this is Santalune Forest?"inquired Lincoln, that's currently he and Serena were standing in the middle of a forest near Santalune City.
"That's right! This place is packed with bug type Pokemon. So training with a few bug type Pokemon here will get you used to fighting other bug type Pokemon."said Serena, waiting to see if Lincoln will catch on to what she is saying.
"Then I can have a better chance of defeating Viola the next time we battle."said Lincoln, quickly catching on to what Serena was saying.
"I'm happy to help."said Serena with a smile on her face.
"Hey, Serena."said Lincoln."Why are you helping a stranger like me when you we barely just met?"
Serena appeared to hesitate. It was like she was contemplating on her answer, and a few seconds later she finally answered.
"Well, you look like you were in trouble and my mom says to always help out those that are in trouble."said Serena, finally responding to Lincoln's question.
"Heh, that sounds like something my mom would say to me."said Lincoln, before he turned around to look for some bug type Pokemon to test his Pokemon again.
'He really doesn't remember, does he? I can't exactly blame him as it's been more than six years since we last met.' thought Serena, before she recalled a memory from long ago.
[Flashback]
Six years ago Serena's parents had just barely split up in a less than amicable divorce. Her mother relocated them to the United States for a while as she was a famous Rhyhorn racer in Kalos, and her divorce was all over the news!
Serena's mother just wanted them to get away from all the publicity for a while until things settled down, so she chose a quiet little town in the middle of Michigan, thinking that no one would ever think to look for her there.
Serena was nervous as she didn't know anyone in the United States, much less in the town of Royal Woods. She was especially nervous to be get her first day of kindergarten, considering the fact she was so shy, that she could hardly speak.
The other kids noticed this, and one particular kid named Chandler decided to pick on her because of her unwillingness to speak out.
"Haha, Serena! Why don't you go crying to your mommy again instead of just sitting there and taking it."said Chandler as he was picking on Serena, and he did this by taking away her favorite doll.
"Please... give it back..."said Serena, pleading with Chandler to give her back her doll that her mother gave her.
"No way! How about I go flush this doll down the toilet!"said Chandler, before he pushed Serena down.
Serena teared up and was about to curl up into a ball to cry to herself, when suddenly someone stepped in between her and Chandler!
"Leave her alone!"said a small boy with white hair.
"Hey, it's Larry lame!"said Chandler, before he was tackled to the floor by the white haired boy.
"It's Lincoln Loud and you know it!"said Lincoln, who is only five at the time.
"You kne better than the pick on girls!"said Lincoln, before he took the doll away from Chandler and handed it back to Serena.
"Sorry about him. He's a jerk to everyone."said Lincoln as he handed the doll back to Serena.
"Thank you..."said Serena, before she ran off.
"Hey, where are you going?"questions Lincoln, wondering why the girl ran off."I didn't even get your name."
Serena on the other hand was holding the doll tightly as she ran to another corner of the kindergarten. She wanted to thank Lincoln for helping her, but she didn't know how was she was just so shy... and for some reason she couldn't stop blushing.
[Flashback End]
'My mom and I moved back to Kalos not long after her divorce scandal finally ended. I haven't seen Lincoln since then but I remember that white hair as clear as day. So when I saw him at the Pokemon center, I knew it was him.' thought Serena to herself as she looked at Lincoln, who was currently fighting a Caterpie.
'He really loves Pokemon. I wonder how far he'll get with being a Pokemon trainer from the United States? I'm sure Lincoln could do it as he has a heart as brave as a knight! Now all I can do is watch from afar and hope that one day he'll remember me.' thought Serena, before she heard some rustling from a nearby bush.
She quickly looked back to see some kind of Robin like Pokemon flying towards her at high speed!
"Ahhh!"screamed Serena, getting the attention of Lincoln.
This made the loud boy ignore the Caterpie as he quickly ran towards the girl, and without thinking pushed her out of the way so she wouldn't be hit by the robin like pokémon trying to attack her.
"Are you okay?"question Lincoln, before helping Serena get up.
"I'm fine..."said Serena with a blush.
"Good. Now who's that Pokemon?"question of Lincoln, as he pulls out his Pokedex to identify the Pokemon in front of him.
Pokedex: Fletchling, the tiny robin Pokemon. Although Fletchling's chirp is quite beautiful to hear, it is relentlessly tough with those who enter its territory.
"We mhst have entered it's territory, that's why Fletchling is attacking us!"realized Serena, wondering what the heck they were going to do.
"Can you battle?"questions Lincoln.
"I'm sorry, but I don't have a Pokemon. All I know what to do is what my mom showed me."said Serena, revealing that she did not have a Pokemon.
"No problem! Let me handle this!"said Lincoln with determination, before he pulled out a pokeball while at the same time putting his Pokedex away.
"Treecko, I choose you!"said Lincoln, as he called out the wood gecko Pokemon for battle.
"Tree!"said the wood gecko Pokemon, ready to throw down.
"But Lincoln! Fletchling is a normal and flying type, meaning it has a type advantage over Treecko!"said Serena, wondering why Lincoln chose a grass type against the flying type.
"Type doesn't matter when you have heart!"said Lincoln, unwilling to unwaver his convictions for anyone, much less because he lost just once!
Fletchling appeared annoyed by this, and it quickly flew towards the wood gecko Pokemon with the intention of using peck attack!
"Dodge it!"ordered Lincoln, causing the wood gecko Pokemon to jump high into the air, avoiding getting hit with peck!
Fletchling was surprised by this and tried to follow up with another peck by flying towards the wood gecko Pokemon while he was in mid-air!
"Use pound to knock Fletchling away!"ordered Lincoln.
This made Treecko swing his body around to strike the tiny robin Pokemon with a back end of his tail, successfully landing pound and at the same time doing damage to the tiny robin Pokemon!
"Hey, wait a minute..."said Lincoln has the gears in his head began turning.
"That's it! I know what to do against Viola! And the first thing I need to do is catch that Fletchling!"said Lincoln with determination, as his man with a plan instincts came up with a strategy to defeat the Santalune City Gym leader.
And that started by catching the Fletchling that was attacking him!
"How?"question Serena, wondering what Lincoln was thinking.
"I'll let you know as soon as I catch that Fletchling!"said Lincoln, annoying the tiny robin Pokemon, who quickly tried to use quick attack!
"Use bullet seed!"ordered Lincoln, causing the wood gecko Pokemon to unleash a barag3 of seeds at the tiny robin Pokemon!
This attack was not super effective, as Fletchling quickly knock the bullet feeds away, only to see that the wood gecko Pokemon had disappeared! This confused the tiny robin Pokemon, wondering where it's opponent when as it began to frankly look around.
"Above you!"shouted Lincoln, causing Fletchling to look up.
"Use quick attack!"ordered Lincoln, causing the wood gecko Pokemon to surround himself with white energy, before he descended towards Fletchling.
The tiny robin Pokemon tried to get out of the way, but it was too late! It was successfully struck with quick attack, and was not to the floor!
"Now's my chance! I may not be good at catching or throwing, but here goes!"said Lincoln as he pulled out a pokeball.
"Go pokeball!"said Lincoln as he threw a pokeball at the tiny robin Pokemon.
The pokeball flew through the air, before it luckily hit the tiny robin Pokemon in the head! It then bounced off and opened up, absorbing Fletchling inside. As soon as Fletchling was completely absorbed did the pokeball close itself shut before falling to the ground. It then began to wiggle over and over again as Lincoln and Serena watched on.
"Come on! Come on!"said Lincoln, while at the same time getting ready for round two in case Fletchling escaped.
The pokeball meanwhile just continue to wiggle, with no one sure if it would work or not.
"Please..."said Serena, as she look like she began praying.
A few seconds went by in the pokeball move the final time before a click sound was heard, indicating that Fletchling had been successfully captured!
"Yes!"shouted Lincoln as he ran over and picked up the pokeball.
"I just caught, a Fletchling!"shouted Lincoln at the top of his lungs, as he held the pokeball containing his new Pokemon high up in the air!
"Treecko tree!"said the wood gecko Pokemon, glad that there was a new friend on the team.
"Now to take you to the pokémon center! After that, we're going to spend the next several hours training here in Santlaune Forest. I think I know what to do against Surskit and that ice battlefield."said Lincoln, as watching fletchling fly up in the air gave him an idea on how to bypass the pond skater Pokemon.
"Really, do tell?"question Serena, wondering what Lincoln came up with.
"Well, it starts with..."said Lincoln, before he began whispering into Serena's ear.
"Really?! Lincoln, are you sure that's a good idea? It sounds risky."said Serena, giving her honest opinion on Lincoln's plan.
"Hey, it's the only sure way to defeat Viola."said Lincoln, who is confident that his plan would work, and only that plan would work.
"Don't worry, I have a backup planning case it fails."said Lincoln."And before you ask, I'm not going to tell you my backup plan as I need to work on it a bit."
"Oh!"said Serena before she popped her cheeks out, making Lincoln giggle as it honestly made her look cute.
He couldn't remember the last time a girl made him feel so happy as his sisters really annoyed him before he left for Kalos. Now did Serena girl who he just met makes him feel at ease, and he still feels like he has seen her somewhere before... he just couldn't place his finger on it.
Oh well, for now he needed to focus on his rematch with Viola!
[After getting some helpful advice from Serena, Lincoln now has a new friend in the form of Fletchling, the tiny robin Pokemon. Will Lincoln be able to defeat Viola in a rematch? Find out next time as the journey continues]
