Brooklyn knew it had been weeks since his last doctor's visit. He was anxious to see how his twins were doing. He knew he needed to get in and have another exam to make sure they were alright, to make sure that all his moving around lately wasn't stressing them out too much. He had kept up taking his vitamins and hormone supplements.
The red gargoyle was enjoying his time here with Robbins. He would do some things with Gilly too, like play fetch with her out in the yard and take her for short walks around the beach for exercise when Robbins wasn't in need of her services.
Robbins would tell Brooklyn stories of his past and how he became blind in the first place. Brooklyn in turn also told him stories of his past of what he remembered from long ago back in the tenth century of his clan and even in this modern era. Robbins was intrigued with the stories from the ancient past. Brooklyn also watched tv in his room to ease his boredom when he wasn't hanging out with Robbins or Gilly.
Brooklyn would also gladly help with groceries and such when the driver brought them home from the store. The driver had been a bit more scared of Brooklyn when he first met him because of his looks, but he had calmed down and saw that the red male was no different than the brown old one that visited every so often.
One night, Brooklyn said, "Robbins, I have to go to the hospital."
"Is something wrong with the babies?" Robbins asked.
"No, at least I hope not. I just need another exam for my babies." Brook replied. "It's been weeks since my last exam."
"That's understandable. But aren't you worried if you'll get spotted going out there?" Robbins asked.
"I'll be careful." Brook said. "I'll be back soon." He was turning to leave when Gilly licked his hand. He smiled. "I'll be back soon, Gilly." He petted the dog on the head gently. Then Brooklyn left the house to go to the hospital, Manhattan General to be exact.
He leaped off the fence to get to the air. He didn't have to climb to the top of the house to get airborne. He also had a look around to make sure none of his clan was around the vicinity. It was clear tonight.
Brooklyn knew that there were also risks of being seen by Demona, or possibly Coldsteel. He sure hoped he was never targeted by them right now in his condition. He knew Demona would likely want to raise his kids as her own. There was no way he was going to allow that to happen.
Brooklyn soon got to the hospital, and he began looking through windows trying to find the doctor he was looking for. It took a while to locate Dr. Sato's office. But when he did, he saw the doc sitting in his office filling out paperwork. This was his chance. He knocked on the window.
Dr. Sato was just minding his own business when he heard the knocking, and it made him jump out of his skin just about. He turned around and didn't expect to see who it was. He saw it was the missing red gargoyle from Xanatos' clan. He got up and went over to the window to open it.
"Well, well, well. I wasn't expecting to see you tonight, Brooklyn." Sato declared. "What brings you by here?"
"Can I come in and talk to you there?" Brook asked.
"Sure. Come on in." Sato invited him.
Brooklyn climbed into the room; his wings wrapped around his shoulders. The doctor was eyeing something on the red gargoyle that he remembered about weeks ago.
"So, how are you doing? I heard you went missing." Sato declared.
"I ran away. I had to because the clan was going to force me to have an abortion. Surely you remember that I was pregnant?" Brook asked.
"Of course. Are you having problems?" Sato asked.
"No, I don't think so. I've been keeping up on my vitamins and hormones. But I am in need of another exam to make sure they're alright." Brooklyn explained. "But please, don't tell my clan you've seen me. I just can't go home right now. They were going to make me have an abortion."
"You will need to face them sooner or later. But I seriously doubt your clan was going to have you go through an abortion. They might have just been speaking about concerns." Sato tried to figure it out.
"I heard them say it before I had to leave home for the safety of my babies." Brooklyn said with tears in his eyes. "Can you give me an exam?"
"Yes, I would like to see how your little ones are doing too. This was unexpected but I can still do this." Sato declared. "If you'll come with me to the back room."
Sato led the red male to the back room, which was an exam room. "If you'll get on the table for me. Pull your belt down a little way so I can do an ultrasound on you." He instructed.
Brooklyn got on the table and got his belt out of the way. His wings were still clasped over his chest as he laid back and it exposed his belly. Sato saw that Brooklyn's belly had begun to start swelling alright. He put a towel on over Brook's loincloth to protect it from the gel.
"Wow! You have been taking good care of them, haven't you?" Sato complimented.
"Yeah, I have. But how are they?"
"Yes. On with it." Sato said as he reached for the gel to use. He also turned on his computer screen and put the gel onto Brooklyn's stomach.
Brooklyn flinched at the feel of the gel again. At least it was warm. Then the wand was put on top of his belly. He watched as the doc tried to focus on what was inside him.
On the screen, Sato was concentrating on what he was seeing. He was homing in on one of the twins. This was so incredible! He could make out the little body that was still forming but he made out wings, a tail, hands, feet, and the head. He also noticed the heart was beating. It made the man smile.
Then he turned his attention to the other baby. It was the same looks. The faces, however, looked like their dad's face. They also had horns on their heads. They weren't done developing yet.
Soon, Sato finally turned the computer to Brooklyn so he could see how his kids looked on the computer. Brooklyn was in awe at how his babies looked on the screen. The last time he had seen them, they were just little blobs. Now they were bigger and looked more like baby gargoyles, just super small yet.
Brooklyn's eyes were in an extreme soft state as he saw his children. Tears of happiness came too. "How do they seem to you, Doc?" he asked.
"They look really good." Sato replied. Then he played a heartbeat out loud.
"Is that normal?" Brook asked.
"It's not quite what a human baby's heartbeat would be, but I would think it's normal. It's a little faster than a human baby's." Sato explained. He also played the second heartbeat. It was nearly the same.
Brooklyn was seeing movements on the screen as well. Both babies had their own water sac and placenta. One of them was sucking its thumb. The other was moving its legs about. Brook wondered how he wasn't feeling the movement.
"Would you be able to tell the sexes?" Brooklyn asked. "Or if there are eggs developing around them?"
"I see no signs of any eggs. As for the sexes, are you sure you want to know?" Sato asked.
"Yes, I want to know. No gargoyle has ever been able to find out beforehand before." Brook replied.
"Do you know how far along you are?"
"Fifteen weeks, I guess." Brook guessed.
"I might be able to find out at this stage, provided that their legs stay out of the way." Sato stated.
Sato ran the wand over one side of the belly carefully to see the first twin. He looked at the legs and it was a little hard to see at first. He didn't see anything really on it. Then he did the twin and he saw a little something.
"I think this one is a boy. The other one might be a girl." Sato predicted. "But I can do another scan in a few weeks to make sure. They're still a little small yet."
Brooklyn couldn't help but grin widely. He thought he was having one of each.
Then Sato turned the computer off and put a cloth on Brook's belly so he could wipe the gel off. He also printed off a new picture for him.
Brooklyn was glad to see his twins in this picture. It showed their progress that they had gotten bigger. His stomach was still only barely swollen but it made him feel fat at times and knew he was only going to get bigger.
"Now you promise you won't tell my clan you saw me." Brooklyn pleaded.
"You should give them another chance, Brooklyn. They are worried for you." Sato declared. "But I promise."
"I'll give them more of a chance when my kids are past the most critical time. Until then, I'm not going home." Brook retorted. "It'll be when I'm bigger. But how long do you estimate I'll be carrying them?"
"Since there are no eggs in there, I would estimate nearly around the human gestation, which is nine or nine and a half months." Sato guessed. "At fifteen weeks, you have about six months left."
"Long time." Brook said sadly. It would still give him time to fully commit to parenthood. "Well, thanks for the exam that I was able to see them as real gargoyles. Last time, they were just little blobs."
"Yep, amazing how Nature works. How babies grow from those little cells into their full-term versions in just a few months." Sato declared.
"Baby gargoyles usually take ten years to hatch after the six-month pregnancy. But I might be getting my own kids in a shorter time period if that's true." Brook explained. "But I need to be getting back to my place. Thanks for helping me."
"You're welcome and stay safe out there. You don't want to encounter somebody bad out there." Sato said with caution.
"I know. I have encountered plenty of them though, but not in this condition." Brook said. Then he left the office.
Sato wished he could tell the clan where the red male was staying, but he didn't know. He would need to come to the hiding place when Brooklyn got too big to come to the hospital, but he hoped the red male would be back with his clan before he got to the point of being really heavy in the pregnancy.
Brooklyn had the picture tucked into his belt as he flew back to Robbins' house. He couldn't get the twins' looks out of his mind. They were adorable babies even at this stage! He couldn't wait to meet them!
When he got back to Robbins' house, he found him and Gilly in the living room.
"So, how did it go with the exam?" Robbins asked.
"Oh, not bad. It's amazing how much they have grown in just a few weeks." Brook declared proudly. "I also wanted to find out what I'm having. I think I'm having one of each sex, but the doctor wasn't too sure."
"That's nice." Robbins declared. "Well, he could recheck in a few weeks' time." He recommended.
"Yeah." Brooklyn agreed.
Brooklyn planned to go back to his clan when his babies were big enough to not be aborted by his clan's decision. He would gladly protect them with his life. But he also wanted the clan to get used to the fact that there would be some babies in the clan soon.
