Totem Warriors
Prologue
Hundreds of years ago, the six tribes of the mystical village hidden in the mountains of Africa were under attack. They prayed to the Gods for help and their prayers were answered. Each tribe was given a totem to protect it, each with a different elemental power- Air, Water, Earth, Fire, Spirit, and Death.
The totems were passed from one bearer to the next, and over time, they were scattered across the planet, with only the Spirit Totem remaining to guard Zambesi.
Most worlds only know of the Spirit Totem and its most prolific wielder, Mari McCabe, the hero known as Vixen and the sole survivor of the destruction of Zambesi. The other totems were either lost or destroyed over the ages.
The destruction of Zambesi is synonymous with Mari realizing her destiny as Vixen and becoming a hero, unleashing the full potential of her totem to channel the powers of various animal spirits.
On Earth One, destiny was rewritten by a dysfunctional yet heroic group of time travelers who pretentiously call themselves the "Legends", and Zambesi's destruction was prevented. Using the powers of the totems, these 'heroes' manifested an Avatar to defeat the Time Demon Mallus, the very threat the totems were created to fight against. In the new timeline, Mari grew up with her sister, Kuasa, who did not become a ruthless villainess vying after the powers of the Totems. Both shared the powers of the Anansi Totem, following in the legacy of their grandmother, Amaya Jiwe who was the first "Vixen," when she worked alongside the Justice Society of America and later the "Legends." Their actions to save Zambesi had severe ramifications, least of which was the release of supernatural creatures across time and space. Mari's origins as a superhero were no longer intertwined with other contemporary heroes like the Green Arrow or the Flash, nor did she ever meet her adoptive parents. The other totems, save the Air Totem, were entrusted to the guardians of Zambesi, their powers rendered inert till the day the totems were needed again.
However, in other worlds, even those in close vicinity like Earth 2 and 3, Zambesi was unable to avert its destruction and Mari became the Vixen, particularly in Earth 2, whose history closely resembled the original timeline of Earth 1 and the Mallus of this universe was poising to strike, the demon having spent thousands of years gathering his powers and breaking through his prison and the only ones capable of preventing his plans of planetary dominion were the wielders of the six totems.
In a sentient house that had the ability to phase in and out of dimensions and thus, be present everywhere and nowhere at the same time, an elderly man with a square jaw and white hair, wearing a fancy black suit sighed as he turned the pages of the book he was reading. He was sitting cross legged on a couch in a vast library, filled with stacks of books, tomes, and scrolls. In the center of the room was a glass case on top of a table, housing what appeared to be a golden helmet with a triangular spike running down the middle and two eye-slits and despite the simple design, it exuded power and importance.
Suddenly, he dropped the book as his eyes glazed over and he started convulsing.
"No…" He muttered, struggling to control his seizures.
He extended his hand and the helmet flung towards him, shattering the glass case.
He held it with both his hands, still trembling but a resolute look in his face. Golden light radiated from the helmet, illuminating his face, and managing to calm him.
"Mallus…" Damien Darhk seethed, recognizing the psychic wave that had tore through the astral plane and no doubt, alerted every telepath or mage on the planet to its power. The demon had broken free from his shackles and it was his sworn duty as the Sorcerer Supreme to put an end to him before it was too late.
He put on the helmet, letting the spirit of Nabu, the champion of Order, take over his body as a blue suit materialized over him and a golden cape flowed out from his shoulders.
Doctor Fate hovered in the air as he rotated his arm, manifesting a giant golden ankh in front of him, a portal to where he was needed to go, seconds before he flew through it gracefully, leaving the library vacant.
A short prologue setting the stage for coming chapters.
I have made Earth 2 Damien Darhk the resident Doctor Fate. This is in line with what we know of this universe, that some heroes in Earth 1 are villains in here and vice versa.
I know I might be the only one obsessed with the Zambesi Totems, but bear with me a little…
While this story is going to be mostly stand alone with no multiversal crossovers planned as of now, I have envisioned this to be a part of the "Infinity Crisis" multiverse. With this and a few upcoming stories, I have some plans to explore Earth 2, building on what we know from Arrowverse canon as well as other stuff.
