MASTERS

Chapter One: It Couple.

"Shall we?"

"We shall."

Zuko grinned as he took the hand of his girlfriend, Mai, in his as he lead her into the front seat of his Lamborghini. The dark-haired beauty smiled back at him as she stepped into the lavish red car.

As soon as Zuko got into the driver's seat, he waved at his mother who was standing at the entrance to their family mansion, a cheeky smile plastered on his perfectly scarred face. The tall long-haired brunette waved back and mouthed a have-a-great-day-sweetie. He nodded and drove off.

As they reached a safe distance from the house, their smiles instantly dropped, the pleasant and warm expressions on their faces replaced by scowls and glares.

"You didn't have to hold my hand that hard, you dickhead!" Mai spat, her slanty light brown eyes widening with annoyance.

Zuko rolled his eyes, wiping the palm he used to hold hers on his trousers. "I didn't want to. It was so sweaty and disgusting, I thought it was going to slip out." He spat back with equal disdain.

"Ha, ha." Mai said dispassionately, shifting her cold stare to the passing trees and buildings.

These two Fire Nation teenagers, one seventeen and the other sixteen, were childhood crushes, adolescent partners and finally teenage soon-to-be spouses. Zuko and Mai were exes at the ages of fourteen and thirteen. Their relationship ended on not so good terms and they barely spoke afterwards despite their families being close and Mai one of Zuko's sister's friends. At dinners, meetings, or even those unbearable playdates, they never spoke; their words exchanged in the form of glares or foul signs. It went on in that manner for three years, their relationship becoming more foul and enemy-like until, a day three weeks ago.

They were both called into Zuko's father's office, where Mai's father, Ukano and Zuko's parents, Ozai and Ursa awaited them. It was a short meeting. It started in a minute and ended in less than. Three sentences were said and the two teens dismissed.

"Zuko, we've decided that it'd be best for our families that you and Mai get married."

"Your engagement rings will be given to you on the day of your engagement party."

"The wedding is in a year. Dismissed."

As simple as that sounded, it just ruined the life of two unsuspecting exes. They weren't given the chance to object, voice out their thoughts or even through a tantrum. The only thing they were given was their wedding date, vaguely! After that day, their parents expected them to just be all over each other as if those old geezers didn't know that they'd already dated and broken up before. It was hard. Zuko didn't bother faking it. Instead, he acted indifferent until he was spoken to by his father about his 'neglect' towards Mai. That didn't end well as Zuko almost got a second scar. After that, he and Mai started this whole façade of being madly in love with each other despite hating the other's guts.

Zuko pulled up to the 'reserved' spot in the large parking lot and without hesitation, he got out of the car, flinging his black backpack over his shoulder. He left without so much as a 'goodbye' to the girl who was taking her sweet time leaving and locking the car.

She patted down the folds of her grey uniform miniskirt, dragged up her stockings, adjusted her black blazer jacket and fixed her fringe that stopped at the beginning of her black brows. She lazily followed behind the scarred, impatient and angry teen that was her future, with a passionless expression on.

"Another day, another waste."

A/N

Good day lovely readers.

This book is just an experiment to test my writing abilities.

I've never written Modern AU FANFICTION but I've read a few. I just hope this one can measure up to the great ones you guys have probably read before this.

I'd like reviews. It keeps me going.

NB: Short chapters around 1000 words.

Thanks. 3
