What happens when the love of your life drops in out of the blue and you haven't seen or heard from him in a year.
Sylvie and Violet were out on a call. They dropped the patient off at MED and they made their way back to the house. They pulled in and got out of the rig. They were talking about something when they walked into the common room. Everyone was there.
Violet notices him first.
"Is that Casey?"
Sylvie stopped short. Her heart stopped. Wait, Matt's here?
Sure enough, she looks straight at him. She felt her arm shake a little and had goosebumps. They haven't seen each other since Stella and Kelly's wedding.
All Sylvie could think about was, what is he doing here and why didn't he give me a heads up.
Matt meets Sam Craver. His replacement.
Ritter said quietly, "Uh oh." noticing Sylvie
Matt looks at her "Sylvie.."
Matt gives Violet a pat on her shoulder and she does the same. Matt walks closer to her.
Matt hugs her
"I should've said something. I know. It was so last minute."
He pulls away and says, "How are you?"
Sylvie had her arms crossed. Everyone behind them was acting like they were talking to each other when they weren't.
"Um, living the dream you know. You?"
"I'm good. I got roped into this conference, me and Kidd actually. It's a DSF thing. I figured it was perfect timing because I get to be in town for Cindy's goodbye cancer party."
He turns around
"How awesome for her."
Hermann smiles.
"She's gonna flip when she sees you here Casey. Oh that reminds me, uh we gotta fire up that old grill at Molly's and make sure it works."
Sylvie turns and heads back out to the ambo to think and to straighten things up a little.
Matt turns his head and watches as she leaves. He grabs his briefcase and heads that way. He sneaks up to the back of the ambo without her noticing.
"Spring cleaning?"
She turns her head to look at him
"Oh, uh yeah. It's a little out of hand. How are the boys?"
"Great. Ben got accepted to 2 schools so far. Still waiting to hear back from a few others."
"That's exciting."
"Yeah. How've you been?"
"Uh, pretty good. *she was looking away from him* yeah just.. *she had a hand playing with her hair* busy with Paramedicine and duh *she looked away again* you know I'm just gonna put this out there… I've been seeing someone. He's a really good guy."
That's when Matt started to panic and lied. He lied because of his pride.
"That's great. You don't have to feel weird about that. You knew what it meant to move on. And I've been seeing someone too"
"Yeah."
"Yeah. It's not serious yet but it's getting there. I guess."
"Same."
"Well I'm in town til Cindy's party. Would love to catch up. Going to Molly's after shift?"
"Uh no I have plans but um, maybe on the later side."
"I'll be there all night."
"Great."
She watches him walk away. Shit, she was in trouble.
Soon they get a call about someone being stuck under a house with a lot of bees on them. Her and Violet drop him off at MED.
They were walking out of the sliding doors and Violet was talking about some podcast but Sylvie wasn't listening. Her mind was on a certain Captain.
They got into the rig. Sylvie in the driver's seat of course.
"Why wouldn't he have told me he was coming to town?"
Violet looks at her
"Well it's not like this Homeland Security thing came up pretty fast and didn't you guys agree to ease up on communication? Cause talking all the time was too hard."
"Yeah I thought it would create some distance and he shows up at the firehouse and I thought he was 2 thousand miles away."
"That was quite the surprise."
Sylvie sighs
"If I had known he was coming I could've at least mentally prepared."
Violet reaches over and squeezes her shoulder. They put on their seatbelts and they head back to the house.
Later, Sylvie is on a date with Dylan at the theater seeing a play. Matt is at Molly's.
Matt was sitting at the bar counter and Stella got him a beer on tap.
They talk about the homeland security thing and then Matt kept looking at the door hoping Sylvie would show up.
"Any idea when Brett's due?"
"Is she coming? I thought she was out with a friend."
"Oh uh Dylan? Yeah. Know ALL about him."
"Hmm I heard you got somebody keeping you busy out there too. What's her name?"
"It's not that serious."
"Who said it has to be serious as long as you're having fun, are you?"
"Sure."
Stella looks at him. She knew he was lying.
"Oh there isn't anybody, is there?"
"I'm out there but nothing really sticks."
"And why's that?"
"Why do you think?"
Matt gives her the "I'm still in love with Sylvie" look.
Next shift, Matt makes everyone lunch and then he goes into Bodens office to talk to him. Matt was sitting on the couch and Boden was sitting in a chair in front of his desk. They talk about the Homeland security thing.
"This is still home in a lot of ways."
"Yeah so, when are you coming back?"
"Ben will be off to college next year. I'd love to return but some things have to fall into place first."
"Like?"
He was getting ready to answer when the bells went off. Calling for Truck 81.
"That's me."
They both stood up as Matt walked to the doorway to leave.
"Go get them."
Matt got to ride on his old truck again to a call involving a person hanging out of a window.
Later at Molly's for Cindy's party. Sylvie was sitting in a stool watching Matt dance with Cindy. Blondie was playing.
Soon Hermann cuts in and Matt walks over to Sylvie. She was standing now with her coat over her arm.
"Hey, you're not leaving already are you?"
"Uh, I promised Dylan that I would meet him at his bar. It was really good to see you back in action at 51 Matt even though it was for one shift and as a candidate."
They smile softly at each other.
"Safe travels tomorrow."
"Well it was good to see you Sylvie. Real good."
They hug. He hugs her as if his life depends on it. He doesn't know when he'll see her again.
Cindy watches as Matt and Sylvie talk and then they hug. Sylvie pulls away and lets her hand linger on his chest where his heart is. She could feel his heart beating under her hand. Her hand slipped off of his chest and she walked out.
Matt placed his hand right where her cheek was resting against his. He turns around as she walks out the door.
Sylvie was walking down the sidewalk when suddenly all of the emotions from seeing Matt again came out in full force. She started sobbing. Seeing him again only made her realize how much she missed the warmth from him and she can't get over him but he's seeing someone now and it just makes her feel alone.
Cindy could recognize a man in love when she saw one. She walks over to him.
"You still love her don't you?"
Matt looks over at her. He looked like he was going to cry watching Sylvie walk out.
"What do you think?"
"Then go after her."
"I can't."
"Why not?"
Matt sighed, "She's seeing someone."
Cindy heard from Hermann that after the lovebirds broke up, Sylvie was only a shell of herself and wasn't the Sylvie they all knew and loved.
"You honestly think she's happy? She hasn't been herself since before you two broke up."
"What?"
"I believe she's been forcing herself to move on when clearly she hasn't. Go and talk to her."
Cindy nudges him toward the door. Matt opens the door and walks down the few steps. He scans the streets looking for her.
When he doesn't see her, he catches a cab and tells the person Sylvie's address. Hoping and praying that Sylvie actually went home.
Sylvie sat in her car and cried harder than when she did when Julie died. It was safe to say she was lovesick.
She texted Dylan and told him she didn't feel well and she was heading home.
Once home, she grabbed a bottle of Rose and got a glass out. She poured herself a glass and sat on the couch.
She finished her first glass and was about to pour a second when there was a knock at the door.
Matt had made his way up to 4B and when he got close to the door, he could hear what sounded like someone crying. His heart broke. He didn't like it when Sylvie cried.
He softly knocked on her door feeling a major dejve. Reminds him of before they got together after the whole Halleck situation.
His heart was beating rapidly and then he heard the door start to open. He looked up to see Sylvie standing there with puffy eyes and tear streaks running down her face.
She looked like a beautiful mess nonetheless. Matt stood there motionless. He tried to talk but couldn't get the words out. He's never been tongue tied before.
"Matt.. what are you.."
"I lied."
"About?"
"I'm not seeing anyone. It's always been you."
They were in the bathroom standing in the shower. Matt had Sylvie pressed against the wall of the shower, her legs wrapped around his waist kissing him with passion and he had her hands pressed above her head to the wall. Their clothes getting soaked.
She raised his shirt up and off. He kissed her neck and kissed between her breasts. She was breathing heavily from making out and it was getting intense. Emotions were running high.
She reached down and hurriedly undid his belt. He peels her shirt off and kisses her neck again while he unwraps her legs to set her down for a moment to take off her pants and panties.
She gets his pants and boxers off. He picks her back up and presses her up against the wall. The shower was really steamy and hot. Water was running down their bodies.
He kisses her and then he enters her. She cries out.
"Oh Matt.."
She felt herself respond to him immediately. Fresh tears ran down her face. God she's missed this.
He kisses her and she kisses him back. He starts moving slowly. He kisses her jawline to her neck while moving and she runs her hands through his wet hair hanging onto him for dear life.
She starts moving as well and moans. He pulls away to wipe the tears away.
"It's always been you Sylvie.."
More tears fall. It was then she knew that Matt was the one she wanted to love for the rest of her life. She couldn't try to replace him. He was the love of her life.
She moved even more and she shifted her hips causing him to slip into her deeper.
"Sylvie.." he groaned out
She was breathing heavily and moaned, feeling herself getting close.
"Take me to bed."
He quickly turns off the shower and he carries her to her bedroom not bothering to dry off. He lets himself fall on the mattress with her underneath him.
He kisses her shoulder as he moves faster and then he kisses down to her throat. Leaving a hickey there, he kisses down to her chest and he moves to take a nipple into his mouth.
"Ah Matt!"
She arches her back into him and throws her head back. Her orgasm was fast approaching.
He smiles as he feels her getting close. He reaches down to rub her clit. He groans
"Jesus Syl.. you're soaked."
She moans and moves faster with him. They keep moving together. She tightens her hold on him and then they both let go.
All you could hear is heavy breathing, moans and groans.
"I love you Sylvie."
"I love you too Matt."
A month later,
Truck, Engine and Ambo were getting a lot of calls.
On one call, there was a house fire and two people were stuck inside. As Severide's team went to search for them, Violet and Brett were standing by the ambo ready to take them when they brought them out.
They got both of them out and brought them over to Brett and Violet. The person Brett was treating had blood coming out from a large cut and then suddenly she passes out from seeing it.
"BRETT!"
Violet looked up just in time to see Brett crashing to the ground and rushed over. The other ambo took the other person.
Severide heard Violet shout Brett's name and looked over to where they were.
"Mayday! Brett's down."
Boden comes running over and Hermann rushes over as well.
"Get the stretcher!"
Severide and Hermann picks her up and lifted her on the stretcher.
"What happened?"
"I don't know. I looked up and saw her crashing to the ground. Maybe she passed out from seeing the blood."
"That's never happened before."
Violet shines a light in her eyes and sees that she's responsive.
"Get her to MED."
Boden agrees and tells Engine to put the fire out. Once done, they do overhaul and everyone goes to MED to check on their favorite PIC.
At MED
Brett had came too after Violet got her there. Dr Hallstand had just switched her from the stretcher to the bed.
"Welcome back Brett."
Sylvie looks around and tries to sit up. Will holds her back.
"What happened?"
"Violet says you were working on a patient from the fire and then you passed out."
"I did? I've never done that before."
"Yeah it's usually the other way around. We'll run some tests and make sure it's nothing serious."
Everyone from Firehouse 51 were currently sitting in the waiting room waiting for news on Brett. Will came and updated them stating that they were running some test making sure it was nothing serious.
Sylvie sat on the bed dazed and confused. She's never passed out from seeing blood before. She started to get worried that something serious was wrong.
An hour went by slowly and then Will walks in with Maggie Lockwood.
"All your test came back clean except for one. The reason why you fainted was because…"
After telling Sylvie the news, she went into shock and just stared into space.
Oh my god.
…
She had just been told that she's…. pregnant.
