Inhaling and exhaling I worked to calm my nerves.

'You got this.' I thought to myself.

Closing my eyes I continued my controlled breathing, tuning out all the sounds around me and focusing entirely on that, and that alone.

'This is what all your years of training have been leading up to. All the blood, sweat, and tears you and your pokemon have shed have been leading up to this moment. So get out there, and show everyone what you and your pokemon have got. I thought.

My nerves finally calmed as I did so. I also put a small smile on my face.

After doing so I opened my eyes, and as soon as I did so the sounds around me that I had worked to tune out returned. Yet none of them mattered to me.

The only thing that did matter was going out there and winning this match.

Nothing more and nothing less.

Several more seconds passed before I finally heard the announcers' voice.

"Alright ladies and gentleman, the moment you've all been waiting for has arrived! The first match of the Indigo Conference past the preliminaries!"

Knowing that was my que I started steadily walking forward, the dark tunnel surrounding me slowly disappearing as I did so. Eventually I was out of the tunnel completely and under intense sunlight, surrounded by hundreds of cheering fans sitting in the stands of the stadium surrounding me.

The same can be said for my opponent.

As the two of us made our way to our respective sides of the battlefield I felt a rush of excitement overtake me.

A sensation that happens to me almost every time I get ready to engage in a pokemon battle.

Even though I have been a pokemon trainer for quite some time.

Yet no matter what I do this sensation never leaves me, and honestly, I hope it never will.

Because after all, I am lucky enough to be living every hardcore pokemon fan's dream. I am actually living in the world of pokemon.

Even though I have no idea how or why this happened.

I wasn't anyone special let me tell you. I was just an ordinary guy. Yet one day, out of nowhere, I found myself in the world of pokemon with ten years worth of memories that were not my own.

To say I freaked out would be an understatement.

At that time I had a full on panic attack.

It got so bad my family wanted to rush me to the hospital to see a doctor. But thankfully I was able to convince them not to take me. Which is due to the fact that the ten years worth of memories that were not my own became mine in a sense.

To put it simply I was myself and also this other unknown person whose memories I received. The two of us were one in the same. Once I realized that I felt a sense of peace wash over me.

That happened six years ago, and ever since then I have been enjoying myself in the big beautiful world of pokemon.

You know, as a child in my previous life I often dreamed what it would be like to actually live in the world of pokemon. Now that dream has become my reality, and all I can say is this.

It's fucking awesome!

My opponent and I soon reached our respective sides of the battlefield. The moment we did so the referee standing on the slightly elevated platform, situated right in the middle of the field between me and my opponent, raised the red and green flag in each of his hands and pointed one of them at me and and one at my opponent.

Red in my direction, green in my opponents.

"The first match of the final rounds of the Indigo Conference will now begin." The referee spoke. He then gestured to my opponent with the green flag. "In the green corner we have Cole Marsh from Vermillion City." He gestured to me with the red flag. "And in the red corner we have Magnus Braze from Olivine City."

After the referee called our names my opponent, Cole and I, began sizing each other up in the truest sense. Since now that our names have been called the battle has already begun, despite neither of us having released a single pokemon yet. Because in battles where the stakes and pressure are this high psychological warfare plays just as much of a role in battle as the actual pokemon battles themselves. I myself learned this the hard way over the years. But it was definitely worth it.

Looking Cole up and down with my gaze I saw he looked to be in his early twenties, dressed in expensive clothing, and has slick-backed dark brown hair with frosted tips. Combined with the condescending and dismissive look he is giving me right now I can conclude one thing about this guy.

He is an asshole, with a capital A.

I can already see it on his face. Cole thinks this is going to be an easy victory for him.

Oh, if only he knew how wrong he was.

"This will be a three-on-three pokemon battle. The victor will be decided when all of either trainer's pokemon are unable to battle, or a trainer willingly concedes the battle." The referee explained. He then raised both flags up in the air before casting them down towards the ground quickly. "Now, begin!" He yelled.

The moment after the referee did so both Cole and I took a single pokeball off our belts. We then clicked the buttons in the middle at the same time, and our pokeballs enlarged at the same time. Once they did so there was nothing left to do but get the battles started.

Turning the smile on my face into a grin I tossed the pokeball in my hand towards the field.

Cole doing the same with his own.

As I tossed my pokeball first it landed first, and the moment it did so my good buddy Mihawk appeared on my side of the field. His eyes immediately started staring daggers at my opponent's side after he did so. Which has a Scizor ups his intimidation factor a hundred fold in my opinion.

I think some of the crowd agrees with me, given the way quite a few of them are looking at Mihawk right now.

However despite the looks he is getting right now he is paying them no mind in the slightest, and instead only has interest in his upcoming opponent.

'Classic Mihawk.' I thought.

But I don't wish for him to change for anything.

As Coles' pokeball landed it released an Arbok.

Which I knew it probably would, since he is a poison-type specialist.

Meaning facing a steel-specialist like me Cole is in deep shit. Yet even with my great type advantage I will not get cocky nor relax my guard. Since even though Cole is a total walking tool he did make it to the final 16 of the Indigo Conference. That's a feat not just anyone can accomplish. That means he must be a semi-competent trainer. As such there is really only one course of action for me.

To destroy his ass as quickly as possible.

I don't want him to think he has a chance of winning this match after all. I'm not that cruel.

"Mihawk, Flash Cannon." I calmly spoke.

The second after I did so Mihawk raised his left pincer in the direction of Arbok and opened it. Gathering steel-type energy into an orb he soon fired off a powerful blast that hit Arbok before it had time to dodge, or Cole had time to call out an order.

As the small cloud of smoke from the attack cleared, Arbok was lying chest first on the ground. Struggling to lift itself back up.

Seeing this Mihawk let out a disappointed sigh.

The moment Cole and his Arbok saw this they got looks of anger on their faces.

"Don't you dare fucking look down on us. Arbok, Fire Fang!" Cole yelled.

"Bullet Punch." I said. Sighing after I did so. Due to Mihawks' attitude.

This happens all the time. If the opponent doesn't interest him or live up to his expectations Mihawk starts dismissing them as opponents without hesitation. It's one of his only character flaws. Just like his namesake. I've tried to fix it, but nothing's worked. He's been that way forever. Though I really need to get it through his bright red head he needs to stop that shit.

At least when participating in official league-sanctioned matches.

As I started thinking about how to make Mihawk shape-up a bit he coated his left pincer in steel energy and then literally appeared in front of Arbok as if by teleportation. The second after he did so he let his left pincer fly straight into the purple snakes gut, and sent it flying right out of the battlefield and into the stadium wall directly behind its trainer.

A look of disbelief appearing on his face Cole turned around towards his Arbok to check on its condition.

Only to find it out cold.

Seeing this the referee raised his green flag." Arbok is unable to battle, Scizor is the winner."

"Oh, and would you look at that folks. In only two moves Magnus' Scizor completely dominated and decimated Coles' Arbok. I wonder, can we expect to see that from Magnus's pokemon during the remainder of this match, or will Cole turn it around with his last two pokemon?!" The announcer spoke.

Getting the crowd hyped up as he did so.

It is his job after all.

Ignoring the cheering fans I focused on Cole.

Returning his Arbok to his pokeball he turned back in mine and Mihawks' direction, a look of vengeance in his eyes.

Placing his Arbok pokeball back on his belt he took off another one and enlarged it. He then sent out his second pokemon. "Nidoking, show this pretty boy and his Scizor we're not to be trifled with!" Cole shouted.

As Coles' Nidoking appeared on the field and then let out a roar I raised a brow in his trainers direction.

But not because of his pokemon, no it's because he called me a pretty boy.

If Cole is going to call me anything I'd much rather he call me handsome. Because I am.

And I'm not being vain when I say that.

Ok, maybe I am being a little vain but it's true. I am quite handsome.

I stand at 180 centimeters in height, have a six pack of abs, sport shoulder-length messy dark brown hair, which is complimented well by my pair of amber-colored eyes. So like I said, handsome.

The fact that I'm only sixteen and still have a chance to grow a bit more doesn't hurt either.

Mihawk got a gleam in his eyes as Coles' Nidoking started staring it down. Seeing this I hoped his attitude in this battle would be better than the last one. Though I want the results to be the same.

A victory for us.

"Earthquake!" Cole shouted.

"Bullet Punch." I spoke.

Just before Mihawk closed the distance and delivered a punch coated in steel energy to Nidokings' chest with his left pincer.

But after he did so Nidoking grabbed hold of Mihawk and then secured him in a crushing bear hug. A triumphant grin on its face as it did so. Mirrored by his trainer.

"That's the way. Now let them have it, Flamethrower!" Cole exclaimed in glee.

"Good." I spoke. "But not good enough." Since this isn't the first time Mihawk and I have encountered this sort of situation. Which is why we have developed several counters to deal with it. "Endure."

Hearing me Mihawk gave a curt nod and then braced himself as Nidoking released a torrent of flames from its mouth, bathing his entire body in them.

Yet despite his entire body being engulfed in flames Mihawk didn't cry out once.

A fact which Cole and his Nidoking chose to ignore.

Wrong move.

"Keep it up Nidoking. Sunny Day, and then hit them with another Flamethrower." Cole spoke.

""Don't allow that. Break free using Iron Head." I said.

The moment I did so Mihawk smashed his head directly into Nidokings'.

"King!" Nidoking cried. Letting out of Mihawk and falling on his ass after he did so.

Cracking his neck from side-to-side Mihawk brought his pincers up, still looking sharp and ready for battle.

"Hit them with Earthquake!" Cole cried.

"Bullet Punch." I spoke.

Once again Nidoking didn't have a chance to get its move off before Mihawk delivered another punch to its gut.

"Good, now use Flash Cannon." I spoke.

"Scizor." Mihawk replied.

Taking both his pincers he aimed them at Nidokings' chest and then released a double Flash Cannon that sent the pokemon flying back and outside of the battlefield, just like Arbok earlier.

But unlike Arbok, Nidoking didn't faint from that attack.

Instead it managed to walk back into the ring.

Even so it's on its last legs.

"Finish this. Agility, and then Close Combat."

"Zor." Mihawk replied. He then zipped around the field before heading to Nidoking to begin delivering powerful punches and kicks to its entire body. He began moving so fast he looked like a blur.

Once a minute had passed Scizor backed off, and right after he did so Nidoking fell forward onto the ground. Out cold.

"Nidoking is unable to battle, Scizor is the winner." The referee spoke.

As he did so the crowd cheered.

A frustrated expression on his face Cole returned his Nidoking. He then brought its pokeball closer to his mouth. "What was that shit?!" He screamed. "Worthless. I thought I trained you better than that."

Putting a frown on my face I began glaring daggers at Cole for the abusive language he is hurling at his Nidoking. Mihawk joining me in kind. Since while he may dismiss opponent's he never belittles the effort they put in when battling him.

Noticing mine and Mihawk gazes Cole stopped yelling at his Nidoking pokeball and raised his head to look at us. "What?! Got something to say?! Well even if you do I could care less, since Nidoking is my pokemon and I'll treat him however I please."

"Participant Cole. You have 30 seconds to send out your next pokemon before you are automatically disqualified." The referee spoke.

Giving Cole a pointed look as he did so. Telling me he didn't approve of his behavior either. But unless Cole does something more drastic right in front of us there is nothing we can do about the way he treats his pokemon.

Listening to the referees' words Cole placed his Nidoking pokeball back on his belt, and then quickly sent out his third and final pokemon.

A Muk.

Placing my left hand over my nose and mouth, as soon as Muk took to the field, I did all I could not to vomit as the Muks putrid stench filled my nostrils and I breathed it in.

"Oh and Cole sends out a Muk of all things. I wonder how Magnus and his pokemon will fare against the living pile of sludge?!" The announcer exclaimed.

"They'll lose, that's what." Cole arrogantly spoke. "Alright Muk, time to show this overgrown red bug and its pretty boy trainer we aren't pushovers. Let's teach the lesson that steel-specialists aren't all that special."

'Ok that's it!' I thought.

I tried to be the bigger man, but fuck that.

This asshole keeps running his mouth for no reason other than he's a sore loser. Which I could deal with. But now that this bastard tool has insulted all steel-specialists all bets are off.

Time to make him feel despair.

Taking out Mihawk pokeball I returned him. I then immediately sent another of my team who would leave Cole speechless.

Since they are going to one-shot his previous Muk.

As the pokeball I threw landed on the field a white light appeared a second later as the pokemon inside came out to play.

Its form grew, and grew, and grew until eventually it stopped.

When it did do Cole and his Muk when wide-eyed as they found themselves staring at a Lapras at least three times the size of a normal one, sporting a feral and slightly sadistic grins on its face.

But I would expect nothing less from my girl Ceto.

"Ceto. Wreck their shit! Use Sheer Cold!" I shouted.

"La!" Ceto happily exclaimed.

Right after she did so the temperature in the air suddenly dropped and before Cole or his Muk could even react the entire battlefield was coated by a wave of ice from Ceto. Which created massive pillars.

When all was said and done Muk was flash-frozen. Unable to move nor retaliate against Ceto.

No matter how many times Cole called out to it, his Muk didn't respond.

Soon he stopped and fell to his hands and knees. A defeated look on his face.

Seeing this made me happy. But to keep people from thinking I was some kind of sadist outwardly I kept a neutral expression on my face. But inwardly, I am grinning like a maniac.

The referee, who was stunned at the display from Ceto, eventually snapped out of his daze. When he did so he raised the red flag in my direction.

"Muk is unable to battle, Lapras is the winner. Therefore the winner of this match is Magnus Braze from Olivine City."

'Music to my ears.' I thought. After hearing the referee's words.

Once I did so I returned Ceto, and then turned to leave the stadium.

Ignoring the silence from the crowd in the stands as I did so.

Because in all honesty these battles are not for them, but the participating trainers and their pokemon.

So I'll put on a bit of a show when necessary but overall I don't really care what they think of me. Because me and my pokemon are here to truly only do one thing.

Win the Indigo Conference.

And nothing is going go stop us from doing so.

A/N: Hello everyone I hoped you enjoyed the first chapter of my pokemon Self-Insert.

From the pokemon to my series MC Magnus Braze. Who as you saw in this chapter is a bit of an asshole but not overtly. I want to make something clear, Magnus does care about people. So he'll take things far but never too far. He also has no issues indulging in his desires and will at times seem a bit cold and selfish. But then again most people are.

So yeah.

If I had to give you an example of Magnus's personality it would follow Trafalgar D. Water Law from One Piece. Meaning Magnus will generally be calm, cool, and collected and always have a plan. He won't show much emotion but again he does care. Also as you saw in this chapter certain things will set him off and blow his cool. And when that happens lookout. He'll take no prisoners.

So I hope you guys enjoy this story just like the ones it's based off of.

As for an update schedule I'll try to put out at least one of two chapters each week but don't hold me to that.

So until next time.
