Cha Young showed a small smile trying to maintain her posture in front of her father and , Vincenzo followed her through the office door leaving the two men alone.
"These two are terrible liars." Yu Chan said laughing.
Outside, walking through the halls of the plaza, Cha Young questioned herself as she saw Vincenzo walk with her towards the car.
"I thought you needed to get some things from your apartment." She broke the silence.
"I don't need to, it was just an excuse to accompany you."
Cha Young couldn't help but let out a small laugh that escaped her mouth. For the first time, he didn't try to come up with any excuse to accompany her, that man messed with her in inexplicable ways.
"Why are you laughing?" Vincenzo questioned and Cha Young felt her cheeks heat up.
"Because you're cute."
It was Vincenzo's turn to blush.
"Are you going to the meeting?" he questioned and Cha Young just nodded. "I thought you didn't like your colleagues."
"And I don't like them, I just want to know what they say about me and see the look on their faces when they see me again, it's been some time and I've changed."
"Including your ex-boyfriend." Vincenzo stopped walking and looked directly at her, who rolled her eyes affectionately.
"That was a long time ago, I was practically a child and besides I don't think he liked me."
"He was an idiot." Vincenzo replied and Cha Young couldn't help but smile.
"I need to go, I don't want to be late."
"I can take you."
"No need, besides, you have work to do."
Vincenzo snorted.
"I can pick you up, call me…" Cha Young interrupted him.
"I don't know what time it will end."
"Are you going to drink?"
Cha Young rolled her eyes. "You are always like that?"
"Only with you."
She let out a nasal laugh feeling redder than before.
"I need to go, take care and don't forget to eat." Before jumping towards the car, Cha Young approached Vincenzo and placed a quick kiss on his lips.
As soon as the lawyer turned on her heels towards her car, Vincenzo pulled her by the waist and returned the kiss without thinking twice.
"You know, you can call me no matter what time it is and I'll come get you."
"I know, it's okay." She responded by smoothing his tie.
Vincenzo stood in the same spot, watching her get into the car and leave the plaza parking lot, smiling like a teenager in love.
The Italian was too focused on Cha Young that he didn't notice the same black car with tinted windows from a few months ago parked on the other side of the parking lot.
(…)
Vincenzo managed to keep his head busy for a few hours working at the law firm with Yu Chan and Mr. Nam.
But they finished just before dinner time and Vincenzo went back to his plaza apartment.
As soon as he opened the door he was surprised that Cha Young hadn't jumped up to him and thrown his arms around his neck like she always did, until he remembered where she was. Her pink slippers were lying on the floor anyway and Vincenzo fixed them as he always did, but this time she wasn't there to hear his complaints about throwing her slippers on the floor or leaving them upside down, she wasn't there either to roll her eyes and pout and call hum superstitious.
The apartment was full of traces of her everywhere, clothes scattered across the bed, several heels on the floor, her makeup everywhere in the bathroom, Vincenzo hated disorganization, he always complained to her for not putting her clothes back in the cabinet.
But this time he couldn't help but smile, he really missed her.
After arranging all her clothes, makeup and shoes in their proper places, he went back to the kitchen and poured a glass of Italian wine, the one he liked so much and turned on the television to watch his favorite opera.
Vincenzo couldn't concentrate, however, Cha Young wasn't there to complain about the opera, she wasn't there to interrupt every 5 minutes saying she didn't understand anything. She also wasn't there tossing and turning on the couch, putting her feet on top of him and asking to watch an episode of her favorite romance drama.
Vincenzo always gave in and let her watch, she laid her head on his lap while he played with her locks of hair and the two of them watched together. Vincenzo rolls his eyes at every scene, but in the end Cha Young always ends up falling asleep and he watches alone.
This time it was different Vincenzo could watch her opera in peace, but he couldn't pay attention and savor the moment, she wasn't there, Vincenzo was so used to the lawyer that he no longer remembered what her life was like before meeting her.
His cell phone started ringing on the kitchen counter and Vincenzo ran over to it, almost spilling all the wine on his extremely expensive shirt, hoping that it was her calling.
He was disappointed when he saw that it wasn't her, but Luca.
"Ciao Luca" Vincenzo said answering the phone.
"Consigliere" he said from the other side and Vincenzo could tell from his tone that the news wasn't good. "E' Paulo, è fuggito in Corea."
Vincenzo felt his heart beat frantically at that moment, he held the cell phone so tightly that the tips of his fingers turned white, he couldn't believe that his brother was in Korea behind him.
"Merda."
Before he could hear anyone say anything or even think about anything, someone knocked on the door. Vincenzo moved quickly hoping it was Cha Young or even Paulo, but there was no one, as soon as the Italian set foot outside the apartment to look down the hallway, he saw a small plastic bag.
Vincenzo bent down to pick up the bag that contained Cha Young's earring, the one he had given her, bloody, along with the card with an address written on it and a letter "C" drawn in blood, Vincenzo crumpled the paper in his hands. Trembling, Paul would deeply regret it until the day he died.
