Chapter 1: Departure
All was tense as Godzilla stared down Ebirah. The overgrown crustacean trembled as he feebly attempted a combative stance. Godzilla could sense the fear coming from his opponent and sighed.
"Look Ebirah. Just pack your claws up and go back to whatever sea cave you've holed yourself up in. You know what's going to happen." Godzilla explained. "This wouldn't be the first time I've given you a beating towards the end of summer. You could say me torching you at this time of year is a tradition."
"Y-You!" Ebirah stammered as he glared at the King of the Monsters. A vain attempt to mask his fear with indignity. "You think you can talk like that to me just 'cause your gramps and old man were 'King of the Monsters' before you?! Don't make me laugh!"
Godzilla frowned. "If it were my dad or grandpa standing here, there wouldn't be any talking at all. You'd be a fried jumbo shrimp at best, and a headstone at worst."
"Ngh!"
"Last chance, Ebirah." Godzilla growled. "Turn tail now, and I won't have to hurt you."
Ebirah took a step backward. For a moment, it seemed as though his common sense would prevail. Such a notion was shattered when the shrimp kaiju mounted a foolhardy charge at the young king of kaiju.
"It had to be an idiot that was attacking." Godzilla muttered to himself as he dashed forward and ducked under a swing from Ebirah! With a swing of his tail, Godzilla whacked Ebirah down into the sand! The crustacean kaiju sprung back to his feet not a few seconds later, his eyes bulging with fury and his claws snapping angrily.
"I swear! Once I get my claws on you-!"
Godzilla snorted as he dashed forward and decked Ebirah right in the face! Putting an abrupt end to the shrimp's indignant rant. As the shellfish was howling in pain, Godzilla's spines began to glow a brilliant blue.
'Time to wrap this up.' Godzilla thought as he threw his head back and unleashed a stream of blue, radioactive fire at Ebirah! The shrimp kaiju shrieking in pain as the atomic flame scorched him. When the light and smoke faded, Ebirah was revealed to be charred and in a position like one might see a lobster on a plate. However, he was very much alive as indicated by the groan of pain coming from his mouth. Satisfied that his opponent was bested, Godzilla stomped over to the downed Ebirah and cracked his knuckles before glaring down at the self-proclaimed "Sovereign of Shellfish".
"Get lost." Godzilla growled to the fried shrimp. Ebirah didn't need much more motivation to flee to the ocean as fast as he could. With the shrimp sent swimming for the hills, Godzilla nodded in satisfaction. As he returned his attention to the humans, he couldn't help but take note of their reactions as he checked to see if anyone had been injured.
Thankfully, no one seemed to be hurt. However, the reactions each human had to the situation were… mixed. Younger ones, such as children and young adults, had a look of wonder and awe after witnessing the battle. But when it came to the older generations, they sported looks of apprehension and even a touch of fear.
'But given my family history, I can't say that I blame them.' Godzilla sighed internally. 'My grandfather didn't exactly make a good first impression.'
"… Have nice rest of the summer." Godzilla waved as he leaped back into the ocean, making a massive splash. 'Now to get back home. Mom probably had to keep lunch warm for me.'
'Junior!' A female voice cried out in Godzilla's mind. One he was quite familiar with.
'Miki?!' Godzilla thought as he swam for home. 'What's up? Did something happen back on the islands?!'
'No, Goji. Nothing bad has happened here.' The woman's voice, now identified, explained. 'I'm just giving you this mental call to let you know you've got a visitor on the island today. They're a foreigner.'
'So? We got a lot of foreigners on the islands.' Godzilla replied as he swam on. 'Mostly scientists. Like the Russel family. They came here for a while after the New York incident.'
Godzilla couldn't see it, but Miki shook her head. 'Junior, this new arrival isn't a scientist. In fact, they're not human.'
'I see… ' Godzilla narrowed his eyes. 'I'll get home as fast as I can.'
And with that Godzilla swam at top speed. Before long, he caught sight of a familiar sandbar and surfaced. Adopting a more relaxed position, Godzilla dismissed his armor, the equipment vanishing in a flash of blue atomic flame and revealing Godzilla in his preferred garb. A black tanktop shirt with a bright blue nuclear symbol displayed on the front, grey jeans that had a ripped appearance to them, and a pair of black sneakers. Said jeans and shirt having some tears due to his tail and spines poking out from them.
"Home sweet home." Godzilla said with a small smile as he ran for his house.
On official maps, the island chain that Godzilla lived on was known as Ogasawara. But to those who lived there, they had a different name. The Monster Islands. With a name like that, tourists weren't a common sight despite how well-known kaiju were in Japan. And that's just the way the islands' denizens liked it. Whether civilian, scientists, or kaiju. But just as Miki had said, today the islands had a foreign visitor. As Godzilla neared his house, he was surprised to see a dark blue winged horse standing idle outside his home. From the saddle on its back, it was easy to tell this creature was someone's mount.
'Is that… some kind of pegasus?' Godzilla thought as he observed the strange creature for a moment before entering his home.
"Mom! I'm back!"
"In the living room, dear!" A female voice replied.
Godzilla followed the voice and smiled as he looked at who it belonged too. It was a woman in her mid-thirties with long, black hair and warm brown eyes. This was Asuza Gojo, Godzilla's mother. And sitting across from her was a woman in dark garb similar to what was worn in England's older days. However, what really grabbed Godzilla's attention was the fact that the woman was holding her head in her hands.
"Ah! You must be young Godzilla. Or do you prefer Gojira?" The headless horsewoman asked.
Godzilla blinked for a bit but answered anyway. "Either is fine. You can even call me Junior if you want to avoid confusing me with my father. I can tell you're not a human, and you're not like any of the yokai I've met."
"Indeed." The woman nodded. "Allow me to introduce myself. I am Headmistress Bloodgood of Monster High. A school dedicated to teaching monsters to coexist with humans."
Asuza smiled at her son. "Goji, Headmistress has come here with an offer: She wants you to attend her school."
"… Why?" Godzilla tilted his head in confusion. "I coexist with you and all the other humans on the islands just fine."
"But don't you want more than that?" Asuza asked. "Don't lie to me, son. I know how much it hurts you when you show up to save the day, and everyone tends to look at you like you're going to rip them to pieces."
Godzilla was about to retort, but the universal parental look of "Tell me I'm wrong" was strong in Asuza's eyes. Sighing, Godzilla nodded. Satisfied that her son had admitted to the truth, Asuza continued.
"And let's not forget, the monsters of Japan that aren't Kaiju tend to keep their distance as well. While you have had some friendly encounters with yokai in the past, not all of them are accepting of you."
"Did you forget I've already got other Kaiju as friends?" Godzilla countered. "Anguirus, Rodan, Mothra, Gorosaurus, and Baragon. I can name some more if you'd like. And that's not counting Big sis."
Asuza sighed. "Junior, I know this is a radical change at this point in your life. You've lived your whole life in Japan, on these islands. This is your home. But don't you want to feel like you belong in more places than just these islands? I know that I want you to feel that way. That's not something I say just because you're a teenager, son. I say this because wanting to belong is something anyone feels."
"Well said, Mrs. Gojo." Bloodgood smiled as he reattached her head to her body before speaking to Godzilla.
"And do not mistake my offer as a demand, Godzilla. All that I ask is you consider my proposal. I've no doubt that the many scientists who've made these islands their home have provided you a more than adequate education. But I feel that you're being shorted a very important part of adolescence: A social life. From what I have heard from your mother, you've a very tight-knit friend group. However, you have not experienced mingling with a large group of peers your age. I've already planned for both you and your mother's lodging as well as your enrollment. Should you decide to attend Monster High, or refuse, I will accept your choice. All I ask is that you give it some thought."
Asuza giggled. "You won't have to wait long, Headmistress. My son's known for making decisions on-the-fly. Something he picked up from his father. I remember the time when-"
"MOM!" Godzilla snapped as his cheeks flushed pink. "No need to delve into embarrassing childhood memories!"
'Perhaps a future of coexistence is closer than many think.' Bloodgood thought with a smile. 'Especially if a human and a monster could fall in love and have a child like the one I see in front of me.'
"I suppose I'll leave you to your thinking, then." Bloodgood announced as she rose from her seat. "I've left my contact information already. I do hope you'll decide to attend, Godzilla. Should you decide, transportation won't be an issue. I've been in contact with the one who will be facilitating your transportation."
Godzilla nodded. "Safe travels."
And with that the headmistress left leaving Godzilla alone with his mother. Letting out a sigh, Godzilla sat himself down on the couch. Seeing her son in a pensive mood, Asuza sat down next to him and placed a hand on his back.
"I know this is no easy choice for you to make, Junior." Asuza said as she rubbed Godzilla's back. "I know you likely won't believe it, like most teenagers don't, but I've had to make a decision as big as what you're facing right now."
"Really?" Godzilla perked up at hearing this.
"You're supposed to say 'Yeah, right! You don't know what I'm going through!', son." Asuza giggled. "And yes, I did. It was when I married your father. I lived on Japan's mainland for most of my life, and moving to an island chain that was known to house the world's strongest beings? It was nerve-wracking! But I thought about what my heart wanted the most. And what I wanted was to spend the rest of my life with your father. As well as the daughter that I never expected to gain."
Godzilla smiled. "I wouldn't be here without you, Mom. And speaking of Big Sis, where is she? I thought she'd be around for big news like this."
"She's tending to her personal garden. You know how she can get lost in that for hours on end." Asuza answered.
"Yeah, that sounds about right." Godzilla chuckled. "Bloodgood was right, you know. Despite having the other kaiju around here, I haven't really met anyone my own age group much. On the other hand, what's to say everyone at Monster High won't reject me because of my background?"
Asuza sighed. "I know it's not easy for you, Little One. If I were born a kaiju, or your father born a human, perhaps the world would be a kinder place to you. Half of it, at least."
"You're already more than kind enough to make up for that." Godzilla muttered.
"I'm your mother. It's part of my job." Asuza quipped. "But Bloodgood did emphasize that Monster High is an institution that accepts everyone. Freaky flaws and all. And who knows? Perhaps you'll meet another student who's got your same family situation."
Godzilla chuckled. "Not exactly the same situation, right? I doubt that any other of the students have had to deal with a sibling bent on conquering the world."
"Most likely not." Asuza shook her head. "But it couldn't hurt to try, right? Also, I know what it's like to want to see what's beyond where you call home. I think all teenagers experience that at some point."
"I guess." Godzilla sighed. "But… the others. I'd be leaving them all behind. I know that Big Sis doesn't stay with us as much now, but still."
"Llante and the others will understand. Besides, it's not like you're leaving without saying goodbye." Asuza reasoned. "If It makes you feel any better, you can leave them a letter explaining why you're gone."
Godzilla was silent as he processed all that had just transpired. A woman, a headless horsewoman to be specific, had shown up and invited him to attend a high school. One that prioritized teaching monsters to coexist with humans. The pros? Godzilla would get to see someplace new outside of Japan, and he'd get to interact with more people his age and NOT have to worry about them calling the national defense force, or worse, him showing up. The cons? He'd be leaving behind his friends and one of his family members. But it wasn't like he'd be apart from them forever, right?
'Heck, they might miss me so much they decide to move to where I'll be.' Godzilla thought. 'Plus… Mom's right. For as long as I've lived in Japan, I can't help but want to see what's beyond it. And I can't let fear hold me back. Dad would be laughing at me if he were still here.'
Godzilla made his way over to a nearby shelf and picked up a framed photograph. It depicted him while he was younger, his mother, and an older man who greatly resembled him. This elder gentleman was Godzilla Sr. Junior's father, and the second to bear the title King of The Monsters. His gaze hardened in resolution.
"Mom." Godzilla said as he returned the photograph to its resting place and turned to face his mother. "I'm going."
Asuza smiled. "We're going. I'm sure Headmistress Bloodgood will be happy to hear that you've decided to attend her school. I'll call her."
A short phone call later, and the parent and child pair began packing. Thankfully, they didn't need to pack too much. From what Bloodgood had disclosed, the house they would be staying at was fully furnished and had up-to-date amenities. However, it puzzled Godzilla that there was no mention of any tickets or a boat that would be arriving.
'Just what kind of transportation would require so little work to prepare?' Godzilla thought as he scribbled down the last sentence of his Goodbye Letter.
"Come on, Junior!" Asuza called from outside. "Help me get all of the bags and boxes in one place!"
"Be right there!" Godzilla responded as he finished his letter and left it on his room's desk before heading downstairs.
Hefting up the massive pile of boxes and belongings with great ease, Godzilla made his way outside. Once he set the pile down, he was surprised to see a familiar figure approaching him and his mother. The approaching woman had light brown hair, serene blue eyes, and a beautiful pair of butterfly-like wings on her back and a pair of antennae on her forehead. She was clad in a kimono that resembled the patterns on her wings. But what stuck out the most was the aura of peace and serenity that just seemed to radiate off her.
"Aunt Mothra?" Godzilla blinked in astonishment. "What're you doing here?"
Mothra's musical giggle filled the air. "Why, I'm here to get you two moved. Divine moths hold much magic, so teleporting you two and your belongings is of little effort. I would have brought Battra along, but he's quite preoccupied watching our little bundles of joy."
"Lea and Leo." Asuza smiled. "Be sure to tell them we said hello."
"More to the point… how did you know about me and Mom moving?" Godzilla asked.
"It was I who informed Bloodgood of your existence." Mothra replied as she summoned a phantasmal moth. "I keep watch all over the world with my little Fairy Mothras. And one of them that was in America at the time happened upon Monster High. So, I took the liberty of holding a little psychic conversation with Headmistress Bloodgood. And now, here we are."
Godzilla smirked. "I had a feeling you might have been involved. Shame on me for thinking Rodan blabbed about me while trying to hit on some girls in the USA."
"It was a fifty-fifty shot." Mothra shrugged before clapping her hands. A golden glow surrounded the area around the three and the family of two's luggage. The seal of the Elias appearing beneath their feet. "Grant us passage to where our hearts lead us. "
In a brilliant flash of light, the group of three and the pile of luggage had disappeared. When Godzilla and Asuza opened their eyes, they saw themselves in front of the house that would serve as their dwelling.
"Thank you so much for covering our transportation, Mothra." Asuza said with a small bow. "Oh! And should you and Battra ever need a night to yourselves, I'd be more than happy to babysit the twins."
Mothra smiled. "You're most welcome, Asuza. And Godzilla? I wish you the best of luck. May you establish a long reign in your new kingdom!"
"I'm pretty sure they don't have kings around these parts, Aunt Mothra." Godzilla chuckled before hugging the divine moth goodbye. "Thanks for helping us move. And, if it's not too much trouble-"
"I'll tell all your friends and the scientists you're close to about your recent developments." Mothra nodded. "I'd have done so without your request anyway. Farewell for now, you two."
And in a flash of light, the divine moth departed, leaving the mother and son pair to unpack and get their new house ready. An easy task given Godzilla's incredibly high stamina and the fact he was doing most of the heavy lifting. Before long, the family was unpacked and Godzilla was in his bed, gazing at the night sky outside his window after a simple, but satisfying dinner.
"New land, new house, new monsters to meet." Godzilla muttered to himself as he settled in for the night. "And I'll be meeting them soon enough. Heh. It's funny. Not many teenagers are excited for their Summer vacation to be ending. Then again, most teenagers don't have to worry about fighting other monsters on a weekly basis. I wonder how Monster High will react to having a king on their campus."
Closing the day on that thought, Godzilla drifted off to sleep. Whatever challenges awaited him on his first day of school, he would face them. Without fear and without hesitation, as his father taught him. He would face them like a king.
AN: Hey everyone. Sorry I dawdled at churning this chapter out. I'll be honest, the main difficulty was getting the plot for the chapter right. It's a bit harder to write this than Ryuki Revised since I've got less plot details figured out. Rough outlines, sure. But I'm kind of lacking a more concrete plan. If anyone wishes to discuss structuring the plot or future storylines, feel free to send me a PM. Only condition is no spoiling it for other readers. Once again, I thank you all for your patience and time. Please read and review, it really helps keep the stories going.
