Author's Note: Greetings, readers. I'm the Nostalgia Cop. This is my first Human in Equestria, or HiE, fanfiction that will feature elements of the current situation going on in the world. This will be an AU (Alternate Universe) where the Ponies, Griffons, Changelings, and Hippogriffs are anthropomorphic. I hope you enjoy!
My name is Steve Reagan. I'm a Police Captain in a small town. My days are long, my sleep is short, and my stress is higher than Krillin's losing streak. Oh, before I forget, I'm an otaku. Whatever free time I have, I spend it watching anime. However, there's something that not even my colleagues know. They know I'm an otaku, but I refuse to tell them this secret out of fear of getting picked on and ostracized. I'm… a brony. Yes, you read that right. I watch a show called My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic on my spare time, too. However, I always watch it on days where I know I'll have it off. That way, I can binge watch an entire season. That's not important… yet. It will be important later on. Anyways, I had just finished my shift and I was about to get my gear off and put it back in my locker. However, I stopped as I heard a call about a body in the woods. I exited the locker room, went to my car, and drove to the scene. When I arrived, I noticed the others mulling about and I approached the first on scene.
"Update?" I asked.
"Appears to be a suicide, sir. We investigated thoroughly. No signs of foul play." They said.
"Good." I said. After a few moments, we all started to leave. I was the only one left. I stayed on scene and emailed the report to the Chief, who had responded by saying that I could take the next FOUR days off. That was rare, especially for me. Anyways, I drove off from the scene and decided to go deeper into the forest. There was a cabin here that could be used by anyone. I kept driving, but noticed that I never saw the cabin. I was too far for radio contact, and I had no cell signal. I decided to stop and stepped out, looking around me.
'I have the feeling that I am no longer where I know everything.' I thought. I looked and saw that I was still in the forest, yet it was… different. I looked around, seeing nothing new. However, what I saw looking up stunned me. Now, you guys remember when I said I was a brony? Well, that helped me figure out where I was. When I had looked to the sky, I saw the moon with four stars closing in. The moon had a figure of a pony within it. That's when I knew where I was.
"How the fuck did I end up in Equestria?!" I asked. That's when I realized it.
'I have a chance to stop the Elements of Harmony from being shattered!' I thought. I got back in my car and drove to the Castle of the Two Sisters. I parked my car out of sight and ran inside. I saw the Elements of Harmony and moved them from where they were. I then took them to one of the towers and set them down. That's when I heard something wrong.
Now, before I continue, I want to explain something. Back when I first started, I had to wear a device called a body cam. This device documented everything as I was working. It was an effective prosecutorial tool, but it was mainly to keep the status of officers in check. The body cam became a permanent part of my gear, and I always had it with me. I never failed to document everything. Now then, where was I? Oh, right! I heard something wrong in the Castle of the Two Sisters. Due to the nature of the situation, and because I was cautious, I turned on my body cam. I stayed hidden and saw six silhouettes. It was at that point I heard voices talking.
"This HAS to be the place! If not here, then where else?!" A voice asked. The six gasped and I saw them run over.
"The Elements of Harmony!" One said.
"There's only five." Another said.
"The legend says that when the five are present," the first said, "a spark will cause the sixth element to appear."
"What in the hay is THAT supposed to mean?!" Another asked.
'If I remember correctly,' I thought, 'this is when Twilight attempts to use a magic spark to activate the Elements. However, that leads to them getting shattered by Nightmare Moon before they form into the Cutie Marks of the Mane Six!'
"I don't know," the first one said, "but I have an idea. Stay back. I don't know what might happen."
'You have got to be KIDDING ME!' I thought.
"You have got to be KIDDING ME!" A voice yelled.
'Huh?' I thought.
"Huh?" The others asked.
"We just spent this ENTIRE TIME trying to find these things! Well, we found them! Now, you're wanting to figure out the spark on your own?! Use your head, Twilight! Not everything can be solved using magic," a voice spoke, "and not everything can be figured out on your own! I think Princess Celestia sent you here for a reason! Not just because of Nightmare Moon, but because you're antisocial!"
'What the Hell?! Get out of my head!' I thought.
"What? Y-you don't mean that!" A voice said. I peeked out and saw six figures. They appeared to be the Mane Six, but they were more human-like.
'I must be in a universe where the characters are anthropomorphic.' I thought.
"I…" One said. I then looked and went on alert as I saw a blue mist approaching.
'Nightmare Moon! She found this place!' I thought. I gave a glare and pulled out my expandable baton. Lightning struck and I used the sound of the following thunder to open the baton. The six gasped in shock as Nightmare Moon appeared before them, laughing evilly.
"Nightmare Moon!" One said.
"We led her straight here!" Another said.
"I thank you for that. However," Nightmare Moon spoke, "I'm afraid I can't let you live."
"What?!" One asked.
"Farewell!" Nightmare Moon said. She then sent a magical blast towards the group. I then left my spot and used my baton to block it.
"HUH?!" The six behind me asked.
"WHAT IN TARTARUS?!" Nightmare Moon asked. I glared and deflected the blast to another side of the castle.
"I don't take well to threats." I said.
"Who are you?! WHAT are you?!" Nightmare Moon asked. I glared intensely at Nightmare Moon.
"That's none of your concern." I said. Nightmare charged at me and I stood my ground.
"Get out of the way! She's gonna kill you!" A voice said.
"Don't interfere!" I said. I then used the baton to knock Nightmare Moon back before it broke. I then tossed it to the side and stood in a fight position. Nightmare Moon then went for some strikes, but I countered each one. I gave a few strikes of my own, causing her to stagger back.
"You fight well, creature." She said.
"You haven't seen anything yet!" I said. I felt a strange energy envelop me and I looked towards my right hand.
' Help me!' A voice spoke.
'What the Hell?' I thought.
' Please! Help me!' The voice spoke again.
'Who are you? How are you talking to me?!' I thought.
' My name is Luna! You have to help me! I'm trapped inside Nightmare Moon!' The voice said.
'How can I help?! I came to Equestria by complete accident!' I thought.
' You have the power within you! You just never unlocked it fully! You have to unleash the power!' Luna spoke. Those last three words echoed in my head and I felt time slow down as I saw Nightmare Moon prepare for a close range magical blast. I glared and felt the energy grow.
"GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" I yelled. The energy then enveloped me and Nightmare Moon was stunned.
"What?! What is this?!" She asked. The others were just as stunned.
' You can do it! I have faith in you!' Luna spoke. I gave a glare as the energy manifested itself around me.
"UNLEASH THE POWER!" I yelled. That last word echoed and the five Elements rose up and started glowing.
"How is this possible?!" Nightmare Moon asked.
"Why are the Elements reacting to him?!" A voice asked.
A large gust of wind shot out and the energy formed around me. I looked at the Mane Six and saw a small spark in Twilight's eyes.
'The spark!' I thought. I looked at Nightmare Moon with a glare.
"You thought you could destroy the Elements of Harmony," I said, "but you're wrong! For their spirits are right behind me! They passed your tests!"
"They still don't have the sixth element! They never attempted a spark!" Nightmare Moon said.
"Because a special spark is needed. That spark occurred just now! When that lavender unicorn," I said, "whose name I don't know, realized that the five she's with are her FRIENDS!" A light appeared above them all and Nightmare Moon was shocked.
"How can this be?!" She asked.
"This is the sixth element! Only by the Magic of Friendship can it be summoned!" I said. The Elements of Harmony then started glowing and I saw a sword appear before me.
' Grab the sword! It will assist you!' Luna said. I grabbed it and the sword glowed bright.
'Huh?' I thought.
' You are worthy of wielding me. I permit you to use my power!' A voice said.
'If only temporary. Guide me to victory!' I thought. The Elements started blowing bright and went to the six girls behind me.
"No! I refuse to be sealed again!" Nightmare Moon said, firing a blast. I glared and used the sword to cut through it, a large gust of wind blowing towards Nightmare.
"I'll buy you enough time! Bond with your Elements and activate them!" I said. I kept slicing through beams of magic, protecting the Mane Six. The Elements then bonded with them and Nightmare was stunned.
"What?!" She asked, letting her guard down. I glared before charging.
'This is my chance!' I thought. Before she could react, I gave a single strike with the sword. That strike caused her to stagger backwards. I looked and saw that the Elements had been activated.
"TASTE THE RAINBOW MOTHERFUCKER!" I yelled. Nightmare gasped and I watched as a rainbow beam surrounded her.
"NOOOOOOOOOOO! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Nightmare Moon yelled. I shielded my eyes as a bright light shone everywhere. After a few moments, the light dimmed and I saw that Nightmare Moon was split apart from Luna. The others were shocked, though I was somewhat expecting it. The energy around me faded and I started breathing heavy, falling to one knee and using the sword to stay upright. One of them then approached me before giving me a tearful hug.
"Thank you for protecting us." They said.
"I thought it was nonsense," another said, "but, seeing it happen, I guess we really do represent the Elements."
"Indeed you do." Another said. It appeared that the sun rose, but it was actually Equestria's soverign leader: Princess Celestia. The others bowed. I had a hard time hearing after that, but I noticed that Nightmare Moon was infuriated. She then used her magic to grab an item and I gasped.
'Oh, no!' I thought. Nightmare Moon stood up and I charged towards them. The item she had grabbed was a pistol.
"DIE, CELESTIA!" Nightmare yelled. Princess Celestia and Luna gasped, but I stood in front of them right as Nightmare Moon fired.
"GRAAAAAAAHHHHH!" I yelled, earning gasps. I then drew mine and fired one shot. The shot I fired knocked off Nightmare's horn. That was the last thing I saw or heard before I collapsed and lost consciousness.
I didn't know how long I was out, but it felt like days. I gave a slight groan before opening my eyes. I looked around and saw I was in a hospital room. I then saw a nurse come in and she had others with her. I recognized them as the Mane Six, Spike, Princess Celestia, Princess Luna, and… NIGHTMARE MOON?! I went on alert and tried to get up to protect myself, but winced in pain and nearly fell out of the bed. I felt two of the Mane Six stop me from falling and they gently laid me back down.
"Take it easy. You're still recovering." A voice said.
"How long was I out?" I asked.
"Eight hours. The bullet was stopped by your armor," a voice said, "but you suffered a mild concussion. You'll still be sore, however, because they did some scans on you. They found several… what were they called again? Bullets?"
"I got those years ago. I was in the Navy." I said. I then sat up and looked at them. Nightmare Moon then approached me, a tearful look in her eyes.
"Why would you sacrifice yourself for people you don't even know?" She asked.
"Because all life deserves to be preserved and allowed to flourish." I said.
"Yet you fired back." Nightmare Moon said.
"I was neutralizing the threat." I said. Nightmare then stood next to me and wrapped me in a hug.
"I'm so sorry! Please," she said, "find it in your heart to forgive me! I never meant for you to get hurt like that!"
'Why is she acting like this? Is it because of my actions?' I thought.
"She was spared by the Elements because of me." Luna spoke, approaching. Nightmare broke the hug and I looked at her in shock.
"Because of you?" I asked.
"I let my pride blind me," Luna said, "and I immediately regretted in. The Elements spared her because she felt the same. We are one in the same, after all."
"Then why not have her protect the dreams of others?" I asked.
"The dreams of others? You mean keep her in the Dream Realm?!" Luna asked.
"That way, you can adjust to the modern life." I said. Nightmare looked stunned, but gave a tearful smile.
"I can agree to that." She said. Luna soon smiled and nodded.
"I will take her there tonight." Luna said. I looked at the others and gave a sigh.
"No doubt you have questions. I'll answer what I can." I said.
"Who are you?" One asked.
"My name is Steve Reagan," I said, "I'm a Captain in the Police Department where I'm from."
"Explains the badge, armor, and weapons." Another said.
"What are you? Some sort of Minotaur?" The first asked.
"No," I said, "I'm a human." They looked at me in shock before I saw two guards stand next to me.
'Great. They don't trust me.' I thought.
"Before we continue," Luna said, "they should introduce themselves. Though, you may already be aware of who they are."
"For clarity." I said. Luna nodded and I saw someone approach.
"My name is Princess Celestia," they spoke, "and I'm one of Equestria's rulers. You already know my little sister, Luna."
"A pleasure." I said, nodding.
"This is my most faithful student." Princess Celestia said. A lavender unicorn then stepped forward with a dragon.
"My name is Twilight Sparkle," she said, "and this is my assistant, Spike."
"Nice to meet you!" Spike said.
"You as well." I said.
"These are my friends." Twilight said.
"I'm Applejack." An orange pony said.
"Name's Rainbow Dash!" A cyan Pegasus said.
"My name is Rarity! Charmed to meet you!" A white unicorn said.
"I…. I'm Fluttershy." A yellow Pegasus meekly said, going into a mumble at the end.
"I'm Pinkie Pie! Party planner extraordinaire!" A pink pony said.
"Nice to meet you all. If you don't mind, Your Highness, could you tell your guards to stand down? I'm not a threat." I said. The guards were stunned and Princess Celestia nodded.
"I understand. Sorry if this makes you uncomfortable. They're very cautious." She said.
"More like overprotective." I said.
"If you don't mind me asking," Twilight said, holding up a bag with my body cam in it, "what is this?"
"It's called a body cam. That allows me to take videos of what I encounter on my patrols. I was recording the fight, actually." I said.
"You were?!" They asked.
"If you can get my clothes," I said, "and take me back to where the fight occurred, I can show you." They all nodded and a nurse came in with my clothes.
"We went ahead and washed them. They needed it." They said. I nodded and took them before looking to the others.
"I'll need some privacy." I said.
"It's nothing we haven't seen before! We had to undress you so they could operate." Rarity said. That made me tense up and blush.
'Great. This is just great!' I thought.
"Come on! I'm sure your girlfriend won't mind!" Rainbow said. That made me look down in sorrow.
"I…. I don't have one." I said.
"Me and my dumb mouth." Rainbow said.
"You have no way back home, do you?" Twilight asked.
"I have no clue how I ended up in Equestria anyways." I said. I felt tears well up, but something wiped them from my eyes. I looked and saw Luna.
"You helped us," she said, looking solemn, "now we should help you." I nodded and got up. I put my boxers on first before taking the gown off. I then put my undershirt on before my polo shirt, put on my pants, and put on my socks. Another nurse came in with my shoes and I took them from her and put them on. I then saw a guard come in with my armor and gear.
"We made sure to keep them safe," they said, "and we cleaned your weapons. We also repaired your armor." I approached the guard and nodded. I then grabbed my vest and put it on, securing it around my chest. I grabbed the rest of my gear and put it on before checking my weapons. The only one that really mattered was my pistol. It was a Sig Sauer P229. I looked it over before grabbing the magazine that went with it and placed it inside, putting a round in the chamber before putting it on safe. I then placed it in its holster and looked at the others.
"Let's go." I said.
It took us a good bit to get back to the castle, but we managed it. I took them to where I hid my car and pulled out the laptop that was inside.
"May I see the body cam?" I asked. Twilight handed it to me and I typed in the information. I then pulled up the video and pressed play. The others were stunned, and Nightmare Moon was in awe. The feed cut out due to a dead battery after I had collapsed. I put the laptop back inside and connected a charger to the camera. I also noticed my phone was charged.
"What is this contraption?" Applejack asked.
"It's called a car. Specifically," I said, "it's a Chevrolet Tahoe. I used this to do my patrols and to get to places."
"Why are there lights inside?" Spike asked. I cranked the car up and turned the ELS on. The others were shocked.
"Whoa! That's so cool!" Rainbow said.
"Amazing!" Rarity said. I turned the ELS off and the car cut off, too. I looked and saw that it was out of gas.
"Great. Out of gas in a world where cars don't exist." I said. Nightmare Moon then put a hand on the car and concentrated.
'What is she doing?' I thought. I then heard the engine crank up and I looked at her in shock.
"What did you just do?" I asked.
"I gave your car an infinite amount of gas," Nightmare said, "and made it to where it will never break down."
"Your magic can do that?!" I asked.
"Impressive, is it not?" Luna asked.
'That is convenient as fuck!' I thought.
"Anyways," I said, "I suppose I should get acquainted with the town."
"We'll go with you!" Pinkie said.
"There's only enough room for me and four others." I said.
"Oh." Pinkie said, dejected. I sighed and looked at the others.
"How will you decide?" I asked.
"Rock-paper-scissors?" Fluttershy asked.
"Too easy." I said.
"Arm wrestling?" Rainbow asked.
"Nope." I said.
"Draw straws?" Rarity asked.
"How would THAT work?!" I asked.
"Hmm…. I suppose we could go with those who need the most protection." Twilight said.
"Then it's settled! Princess Celestia, Princess Luna, Nightmare Moon, Twilight, and I will ride with Steve!" Spike said.
"Um, Spike. There's a fatal contradiction in your statement." I said.
"Huh?" He asked.
"I said only FOUR passengers could ride with me." I said.
"Oh." Spike said.
"Yeah." I said.
"That's okay! Spike can come with us!" Pinkie said.
"Just stick to the path, okay? No deviating! Looking at you Rainbow." I said.
"It was ONE TIME!" Rainbow said.
"It happened on the way here!" I said. Rainbow tensed up before looking to the side in defeat.
"We'll meet you all at the library." Twilight said. The others then started walking and I opened the doors to my car. The Princesses and Nightmare Moon sat in the back, while Twilight sat up front with me. I turned the headlights on and started driving towards town.
"Everyone comfortable?" I asked.
"It does seem a bit hot back here." Luna said. I turned the A/C on low and a cool breeze flowed through.
"Ooh! That's nice." Nightmare Moon said.
"How can a breeze flow through here without wind?" Celestia asked.
"It's called air conditioning. There's fans built in throughout the car. I can control the temperature from up here. This is an integral part of cars. I can also control the heat." I said.
"Amazing!" The four said.
"If you say so." I said. I looked at my surroundings as I drove. When we got out of the forest, I drove past several buildings. Ponies were everywhere and they moved out of my way. However, a carriage had zoomed passed me and nearly hit an elderly mare.
'Seriously?!' I thought. I turned the ELS on pulled up behind the carriage. I chirped the siren a few times and the carriage stopped. I parked and looked at my computer, seeing my body cam was fully charged. I took it off the charger, put it on my vest, and turned it on. I then stepped out and approached the left side. I saw a stallion looking nervous and my instincts kicked in. I placed a hand on the side of the carriage and looked at him.
"Good morning, sir. Could you set the carriage down for me, please?" I asked.
"O-oh! S-sorry!" The stallion said. He set the carriage down and looked at me.
"Do you know why I stopped you today?" I asked.
"U-umm… n-no." The stallion said.
"Well," I said, "as I was driving towards the library, I noticed you speed past me. Not only that, but you almost hit an elderly mare. Do you have any form of identification on you, or a permit for this carriage?"
"Ah, shit. I am SO sorry! My children are late for school." The stallion said.
'He responded pretty quickly there.' I thought.
"Let me just get my ID and permit." The stallion said. I saw him turn towards the carriage, and I saw the barrel of a gun. I drew mine fast and stood back.
"Show me your hands!" I ordered. The stallion looked at me in shock.
"Huh?" He asked.
"SHOW ME YOUR HANDS! PUT THEM UP!" I yelled. The stallion complied and two guards rushed over.
"Is everything alright?" One asked.
"I saw a weapon in the carriage as he went for his ID and permit." I explained. The two guards went on alert and aimed their weapons at the stallion.
"Sir," the other guard said, "step away from the carriage! Do it now!"
"Slowly!" The first one said. The stallion complied before starting to walk forwards.
"Stop! Turn around and don't move!" I ordered. The stallion complied and I saw the others in my right peripheral vision. Twilight got out, along with the Princesses and Nightmare Moon, and stood with them to watch the scene unfold.
"Should we search now?" The first guard asked.
"What does the human think?" The second guard asked.
"Let me deal with this." I said.
"If you're sure." The first guard said.
"Now! Walk backwards towards us until you hear stop!" I said. The stallion started walking backwards.
"Keep going! Keep going! Keep going! Keep going! Keep going! Keep going! Keep going! Stop!" The first guard said. The stallion stopped and everyone was confused.
"Get down on your knees with your hands behind your head, fingers interlaced, and legs crossed!" I commanded, starting to walk over. The stallion complied and the guards looked confused. I put a hand on his and holstered my pistol before pulling out a pair of handcuffs. I placed one on his left and put it behind his back before grabbing the other and moving it behind his back to cuff that one. I pulled out my key to the cuffs and locked them in place. The guards approached and looked at me.
"Why did you just do that?" They asked.
"For our protection. Sir," I said, "at this time, you're being detained. Not arrested, just detained. That may change after I search your carriage. Is that understood?"
"Yes, sir." The stallion said.
"Stand up." I said, grabbing his arm. The stallion stood up and I turned him to the guards.
"What do we do with him?" The first one asked.
"Keep him away from the carriage as I search it." I said. The guards nodded and I put on a pair of gloves. I then approached the carriage and started to search it. I removed the cover to give me better light and revealed a MULTITUDE of weapons. The ponies watching gasped in shock and the guards were stunned.
"That's enough to arm a small platoon!" The second one said. I pulled out the stallion's ID and permit. I soon grinned.
'I got him on THREE things!' I thought.
"Why is he grinning?" Twilight asked.
"He found probable cause." Princess Celestia said. I turned to the stallion, my face serious once more, and approached.
"Mr. Solid Buckler, is it?" I asked.
"Yes, sir." The stallion said.
"Alright. Mr. Buckler," I said, "I have your permit here and it appears to be expired."
"I just renewed it!" Buckler said.
"Do you have proof of this?" I asked.
"Well," Buckler said, "not exactly."
"Then I can't confirm that you did renew it. On top of that," I said, "you need a permit to carry any weapon that uses explosives, or has a blade length of over six inches. Do you have this permit?"
"I…. I…. sigh I couldn't afford one." The stallion said, dejected.
"Then," I said, "at this time, you are now being placed under arrest on Reckless Driving, Operating a Carriage on an Expired Permit, and Possession of Illegal Weapons."
"We'll take it from here." One guard said.
"I'll send for a team and transport for the suspect." The other said.
"Aren't you forgetting something?" I asked.
"Huh?" The guards asked. I motioned to Buckler and gave a serious look.
"He hasn't been read his rights yet." I said.
"What rights?" Buckler asked. I facepalmed before sighing. I gave a serious look before clearing my throat.
"You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you as evidence in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford one," I said, "a public defender will be provided for you. You have the right to have an attorney during questioning. At any point of your questioning, you have the right to terminate it and request a lawyer. Do you understand these rights as I've read them to you?" Buckler was stunned and the guards were dumbfounded.
"Y-yes, sir." Buckler said.
"With these rights in mind," I said, "is there anything you wish to divulge now?"
"N-no, sir. Not at this time." Buckler said. A transport carriage then arrived and two more guards appeared.
"We'll take the suspect. A processing team is on its way." One said. The others nodded and took Buckler to the carriage. I gave a sigh before going to my car and turning my body cam off. Princess Celestia then approached me with a small stack of papers.
"The report?" I asked. She looked at me in shock.
"Are you kidding?! I can't ask you to do that!" She said.
"I'm the arresting officer. I have to do it." I said.
"Is that how it worked where you lived?" Twilight asked, approaching with the others.
"Yes," I said, "it is."
"Well no wonder it looked like you've done this before!" Applejack said.
"You were there when I said I was a Police Captain, right?" I asked.
"Oh, sorry. I forgot." Applejack said, rubbing the back of her neck in embarrassment.
"Anyways," I said, "if that isn't the report, what is it?" Princess Celestia smiled and Twilight giggled a bit.
"This is just some paperwork that she was given to look over." She said. One of the guards approached and looked confused.
"We're having some trouble getting the restraints that were put on the suspect off. Our keys don't fit." They said. I sighed and approached, pulling my key out. When they saw me, they moved out of the way.
"Mr. Buckler," I said, "I'm about to remove the current restraints on you. Don't move your hands from behind your back, understand?"
"Yes, sir." Buckler said. I then used my key and removed the cuffs before nodding to the guards. One of then put a different set of restraints on Buckler and I put mine back in their case. I returned to my car and Princess Celestia was stunned.
"Those seem to be pretty effective." She said.
"I have another set if you'd like to see how they work and possibly make some to update the restraints used now." I said.
"You wouldn't mind?" Twilight asked.
"Not at all." I said.
"We can discuss more when we get to the library." Princess Celestia said. I nodded in agreement.
After a few moments, I sat down on a couch in the library and sighed. The Mayor of Ponyville then walked in and had some documents with her.
"You must be Steve Reagan, I take it?" She asked.
"Indeed I am." I said.
"I am this town's Mayor. From what I understand," she said, "you are a Police Captain where you're from? Why come to Equestria?"
"That's the thing! I don't know how I ended up here!" I said.
"Oh, dear. You have no way back home, do you?" She asked.
"Not a chance in Hell." I said.
"Well," the Mayor said, "I do believe we can find a place for you here in Ponyville." A guard then walked in and approached me.
"Sir," he said, "I need to see your body cam footage." I nodded and went to my car. I pulled up the footage and the guard nodded.
"I also have a dash cam." I said. I pulled up that footage as well and the guard nodded.
"Impressive." He said.
"That was some instant justice!" The Mayor exclaimed.
"Indeed." I said.
"I'll be sure to include this in the arrest report." The guard said.
"I gave Princess Celestia a written account. She's probably given it to the Prosecutor's Office already." I said.
"Alright." The guard said. I then grabbed my phone and sighed.
'Most I can use this for now is music.' I thought. Right as I was about to put it down, it started ringing. I answered it immediately.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Steve? It's Rarity. Can you hear me okay?" A voice asked.
"How did you get my number? Wait, scratch that! How did you get a cell phone?!" I asked, shocked.
"What do you mean? I'm using a spell to speak with you. Though, I did hit a barrier. I guess that explains it." Rarity said.
"Anyways," I said, "what were you wanting?"
"Oh! I wanted you to come by Carousel Boutique. I was wanting to make some clothes for you to wear." Rarity said.
"I have no money. I can't afford new clothes." I said.
"Princess Celestia said she would pay for everything." Rarity said.
"You just don't take 'no' for an answer, do you?" I asked.
"Not when it concerns my friends. Hurry along now! My sister wants to meet you." Rarity said. Before I could speak again, the call ended. I sighed and the Mayor looked confused.
"I'll explain later." I said. I then cranked the car up and closed the door. I then started driving to Carousel Boutique, taking in more sights along the way. That's when I noticed something odd.
'Why are they looking at my car like it might be some kind of monster?' I thought. I got to Carousel Boutique and saw a crowd had followed. I looked closer and saw they were all mares. I walked to the door and knocked.
"Who is it?" A voice asked.
"Former Captain Steve Reagan, Police." I said. The door opened and a young girl stood in the doorway.
"You're Steve?" She asked.
"You must be Rarity's sister." I said.
"My name is Sweetie Belle." She said.
"Is Rarity here?" I asked.
"She's upstairs at the moment." Sweetie Belle said.
"Mind if I wait downstairs then?" I asked.
"Oh, sorry. Please, come in!" Sweetie Belle said, standing aside. I walked in, looking around, and Sweetie Belle closed and locked the door. Rarity walked down and approached me.
"Do you have that… um… cellphone? Yes, that's it!" Rarity asked.
"It's in my car." I said.
"Anyways," Rarity said, "the Princess did ask me to make you some clothes. Though, she also specified that I make a formal uniform as well. Not sure why."
"Probably for important events. Like a wedding." I said.
"True." Rarity said.
"Could this have waited? I still need to see if Ponyville has a police force." I said.
"We're too small for a police force. Whenever a crime happens," Sweetie said, "we have to rely on a certain investigative team from Canterlot. They couldn't solve a case to save their lives."
"Don't be so harsh, Sweetie Belle." Rarity said.
"You're the one who got assaulted by them and you're telling ME not to be harsh?!" Sweetie asked. That got my attention.
"They assaulted you?" I asked.
"It wasn't assault, really. It was an accidental slap to my face." Rarity said.
"With the back of their hooves?! Not to mention," Sweetie said, "whenever I got home, I saw you cleaning up something in this very spot! You cleaned it very thoroughly, too! There's also the fact that I saw you bleeding from your-!"
"That's quite enough, Sweetie!" Rarity said, cutting her off. I knew EXACTLY what Sweetie was about to say.
"Stay put." I said. I then went outside to my car, ignoring the crowd, and went to the back. I opened the back of my car and pulled out some Luminol and a special pair of glasses. I closed the back of the car and walked inside. I then put the glasses on and Rarity looked at me in confusion.
"What are you doing?" She asked. I knelt down and sprayed where Sweetie mentioned and I got a reaction. Sweetie could tell and looked at Rarity.
"He knows, Rarity." She said. I sprayed further and saw some other form of fluid, and it made my blood boil.
'Those assholes!' I thought. Right when I finished, two stallions walked in and Rarity was stunned.
"Why were YOU called?!" She asked.
"Got a report of a suspicious individual here. Looks like we were right." One said.
"Which one?" I asked.
"Huh?" The stallion asked. I looked to Rarity with a serious look on my face before standing up and taking the glasses off.
"Which of those two stallions raped you?" I asked. That question hit them like a ton of bricks. Rarity then looked at the stallions before shedding a tear.
"They both did." She said, admitting the truth. The stallions tried to charge me, but they were immobilized. I looked at them and saw Princess Celestia standing behind them with a few guards. The guards took the "investigators" into custody and led them away.
"It appears that I was made a fool of." She said.
"I'm afraid so." I said.
"Perhaps a new team should be established." She said.
"Too easy. You need to instate a kingdom-wide police force." I said.
"What would we call it?" Princess Celestia asked. I thought for a bit and gave a grin.
"The Equestria Police Bureau." I said. That name caused her to look stunned, and Sweetie smiled and nodded.
"That's a PERFECT name for it!" She said.
"I shall have a patch made for it immediately." Princess Celestia said.
"I think I know of a good design." I said. Rarity motioned me over to a table and I started to explain it.
[Moments later….]
Rarity smiled as she was proud of her work. She showed the patch to Princess Celestia, who smiled and nodded in approval.
"I know of the perfect badge design. I shall have our Royal Blacksmith work on it immediately. Also," Princess Celestia said, holding a pair of handcuffs in her grasp, "I appreciate you lending us your spare set of restraints. You wouldn't happen to have a spare key as well, would you? So more of that can be made?" I held up a spare key and Princess Celestia took it.
"I shall work on the uniforms and body armor." Rarity said.
"I have a spare vest in my car." I said.
"I can use that as a reference then. What material is it made of?" Rarity asked.
"A special fabric called Kevlar." I said.
"Kevlar?" Rarity asked.
"I know that fabric. I'll have some guards bring some over." Princess Celestia said.
"Make sure they send enough to make a LOT of vests." I said.
"I will. I'll have a talk with them. In any case," Princess Celestia said, "I'll get started on arrangements to have you as a citizen if Equestria. I'll also be working on getting you a place to live. Just give me some time."
"Very well. Did you need my measurements, Rarity?" I asked.
"Oh! That's right! How silly of me!" Rarity said.
"I'll stay down here. I need to ask Princess Celestia some stuff for a school project." Sweetie said.
"Of course. I can answer your questions on the way to City Hall." Princess Celestia said.
"Where are those crooked cops being held?" I asked.
"Oh," Princess Celestia said, "they're being held in the Canterlot Dungeon."
"I just realized. Where would we put the first office for the EPB?" Rarity asked. I gave a grin.
"I have an idea." I said.
"You do?" The two mares and filly asked.
"Do you have an area map of Ponyville?" I asked. Rarity held one up and I circled one area.
"What's there?" Sweetie asked.
"This is where I saw an abandoned plot of land. It's within Ponyville," I stated, "and it's large enough for there to be a building here. It's the perfect location for the Equestria Police Bureau Headquarters. We can also have a jail built right here. That way, Ponyville doesn't have to keep sending their criminals to Canterlot." I circled another area and Princess Celestia was stunned.
"I never thought of that!" She said.
"Perhaps an overhaul of incompetent workers is in order?" I asked. Princess Celestia gave a look of shock, but soon nodded in agreement.
"I'll get started on the preparations immediately." She said.
"Be good while out with the Princess, Sweetie Belle. Don't bother her too much." Rarity said.
"I won't!" Sweetie said, smiling the two then left and I looked at Rarity as she went up the stairs. I followed her and she motioned to a room.
"We can take your measurements in here." She said.
"Does that mean I have to strip to my boxers?" I asked. She blushed a bit before giving an embarrassed laugh.
"I'm afraid I need those off, too. I plan on making you some more boxers, too. Free of charge." She said.
"I… see." I said, giving a slight blush. I walked in and started stripping down. Rarity was stunned at how quickly I took the vest off. She took it and started to inspect it. I took everything else off and she used her magic to take my measurements.
"Alright," she said, "you can get dressed now. Leave the polo shirt off. I'll make you a new one real quick using a special, moisture-wicking fabric. Princess Celestia gave me a patch version of the badge. I'll add it to the polo, and include your new rank. You're no longer going to be a Captain, after all."
"What rank did Princess Celestia give me? Chief of Department?" I asked.
"Commissioner, actually." Rarity said.
"That was a civilian position back where I lived." I said.
"Guess it will be different here." Rarity said. I nodded and started getting dressed.
"Think you could make some dress socks and more regular socks for me, too?" I asked.
"Of course, darling!" Rarity said. I waited a bit and Rarity came upstairs with a new polo shirt for me after a few minutes. I put it on over the undershirt and finished getting dressed. I then walked downstairs and saw Rarity hard at work.
"I'll leave you to it, Rarity." I said. Rarity smiled at me and nodded.
"Be careful out there!" Rarity said. I nodded and walked out. I noticed the crowd of mares and I sighed.
'They seem to be a bit TOO curious.' I thought. I got in and turned the ELS on, backing up. The crowd dispersed a bit as I did so, allowing me to get turned around. I then drove off and turned the ELS off. As I drove, my phone rang again. I answered it and put my phone on speaker.
"Reagan." I said.
"Hey, Steve! It's Twilight!" A voice said.
"Hey, Twilight. Used a Telepathy Spell, I take it?" I asked.
"Yeah," Twilight said, "but I hit some sort of barrier."
"That would be my cellphone. I can explain it later. You need something?" I asked.
"Oh! Can you stop by Sweet Apple Acres? Applejack said she needed your opinion on something." Twilight said.
"Yeah. On my way." I said.
"Thanks!" Twilight said. I ended the call and drove to Sweet Apple Acres. I remembered how to get there from playing a game that was a spinoff of the Ace Attorney series. That, and I memorized the way from the map. I pulled up and saw Applejack standing there with three others. I parked and stepped out.
"Thanks for comin' so quickly, Steve." She said.
"No problem. This your family?" I asked.
"Yes, sir! This is my brother, Big Macintosh, my little sister, Apple Bloom, and our grandmother, Granny Smith." Applejack said.
"A pleasure to meet you." I said.
"You as well!" Apple Bloom said.
"Eeyup!" Big Macintosh said.
"What kinda contraption is that?" Granny Smith asked, pointing to my car.
"It's called a 'car,' Granny. It's how he got around where he lived." Applejack said.
"Why the lights?" Granny asked. I gave a smirk and opened the door, I leaned over and turned the ELS on. Granny's eyes went wide, Big Macintosh was stunned, and Apple Bloom looked in awe. I turned the ELS off and stepped out again.
"Anyways," I said, "back to business. Why did you need me here?" Applejack snapped her family out of it and looked at me.
"Right. We heard a strange noise in the barn. I'd check it out m'self," Applejack said, "but I have to keep Apple Bloom from following you. There's also the fact we have no weapons. It's a scary thought, but the guards actually RECOMMENDED that you do it!" I heard something clatter from inside the barn and my instincts kicked in.
"They were right to." I said. I got back in and turned the ELS on before driving up. I drew my pistol and saw the barn cracked. I soon holstered my pistol and went to the back of my car. I opened it, grabbing a M4A1 Carbine rifle, and loaded it. I then closed the back and went to the opening. I turned the light on my rifle on and walked in. I started clearing the entire barn before I spotted someone.
'Who is that?' I thought. I couldn't see their face, but I could tell they weren't supposed to be there.
"Don't move. Hands where I can see them." I said. The being froze before going to run. I quickly switched from my rifle to a Taser I kept on my vest, training it on the figure.
'I hope I can get them to make more of these.' I thought.
"Don't move! Move one more step and I'll fire!" I said.
"Please! Just let me go! I promise I won't come back!" The figure spoke.
"Show me your hands! Do it now!" I commanded. The figure went to run and I glared.
"Just let me go!" They spoke, running.
"TASER! TASER! TASER!" I yelled. I then fired and the prongs of the Taser connected into the figure.
"KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!" The figure screamed, tensing up and falling on their face.
"Don't move or you'll get it again! Understand?!" I asked. I approached and put their hands behind them using my free hand. I then set the Taser down and used both my hands to restrain the figure. I released the spent cartridge and removed the prongs from the figure.
"W-what just happened?" They asked. I forced them up and started walking them out. When we got outside, Applejack was stunned.
"What in tarnation?!" She asked.
"Do you recognize them?" I asked.
"Unfortunately." Applejack said.
"Looks like I'll need a statement from you." I said.
"I'll have it written down and ready by supper." Applejack said.
"Send for the guards." I said.
"Eeyup!" Big Macintosh said.
[Moments later….]
I sighed in exhaustion and dragged a hand through my hair as I was sitting in my car. Currently, I was parked in front of City Hall filling out a residency form. I just finished it and had set it to the side. I closed my eyes to rest them, but jerked as I heard a thud against the hood of my car. I looked and saw two ponies in a heavy make-out session. I gave a deadpanned look and turned the ELS on before chirping the siren. I turned the PA system on as they looked at me. I put the mic to my mouth and mentally prepared for what I had to say.
"Step away from the front of my car." I said. The two listened and I got out, turning my body cam on.
"I-I'm so sorry!" One said.
"We weren't paying attention!" The other said.
"I need to see some ID." I said. The two nervously pulled out their IDs and handed them to me. I looked at them and took note of their names.
"Please," the second one said, "let us go with only a warning! We never meant to this to happen!"
"Just calm down. What I'm doing is routine." I said.
'Hopeful Wind and Second Wind.' I thought.
"If you don't mind me asking, are you two married?" I asked. The two tensed up and I gave a sigh.
'Siblings.' I thought. A guard walked up and gave a sigh.
"Did they cause damage to your car?" He asked.
"Their PDA got a little heated," I said, "and they're siblings."
"! S-siblings making out in public?! T-th-THAT'S FROUND UPON!" The guard exclaimed.
"Looks like you two have some explaining to do." I said. Two more guards appeared and took the two into custody. Before they had a chance to speak with me….
KABOOM
I looked towards the sound and went on alert as I saw smoke billowing out.
"Sweet Celestia!" A guard said. I got inside my car and drove off, turning the siren on. I said a small prayer on the way that there weren't any lives lost. The moment I pulled up, I turned the siren off and saw a roaring fire. My instincts took over and I ran towards it. I ran past the door and looked around.
"POLICE! IF ANYONE IS IN HERE," I yelled, "PLEASE ANNOUNCE YOURSELF! I'M HERE TO HELP!"
"H-help!" A voice weakly said. I looked towards it and ran. I saw a burning beam on top of a filly.
"HANG IN THERE! I'LL GET YOU OUT!" I yelled. I kicked the beam off of her and picked her up.
"M-my parents and aunts." She said, weakly pointing to the back of the house.
"Let me get you safe first! Okay?" I asked. The filly nodded before going unconscious. I ran out with her and saw two platoons of guards approaching.
"Is she okay?!" One asked.
"Get her to a medic! There's four more still inside!" I said. Before they could say otherwise, I ran into the house again. I ran towards the back of the house and looked around. I heard coughing and looked towards it, seeing a closed door.
"T-the door is stuck! W-we can't get out!" A voice said.
"I can't see in all this smoke!" Another said.
"POLICE! BACK AWAY FROM THE DOOR! I'M GONNA KICK IT IN!" I yelled. I heard shuffling for a bit and kicked the door in.
"Thank Celestia!" One said.
"NO TIME! GET GOING!" I yelled.
"What about our daughter?!" A stallion asked.
"SHE'S SAFE! GET OUT OF THE HOUSE! GO!" I yelled. The four started to run out, but I heard cracking.
"Is this place about to collapse?!" One asked.
"RUN!" I yelled. I pointed to the exit and let them ahead of me. I ran behind them and gasped as I saw the roof about to cave in.
'Please let it hold long enough!' I thought. As I ran, I then watched in horror as I saw one part of the roof collapse onto the four ahead of me. I was too slow to stop it. I heard a high pitched whine and looked towards it, seeing a gas tank. I ran out a busted window before running towards the guards.
"Is everyone out?!" One asked.
"IT'S GONNA BLOW! EVERYONE DOWN!" I yelled. I jumped as the home exploded and sent shrapnel towards us all. I landed behind cover and put my head down, covering it with my hands. I looked after I didn't hear anymore impacts and gasped. The home that once stood where I was looking was gone, replaced by a pile of burning wood. Time slowed for me as I saw guards running to quench the blaze, their voices distorted. I was knocked from my trance by feeling a hand on my shoulder. I looked and saw a guard.
"Are you okay, sir?" They asked.
"I will be once the ones responsible are captured." I said.
"We'll perform a thorough investigation. You have our word." The guard said.
"What of the filly I had rescued?" I asked.
"She's at the hospital now. We'll send a team to notify her." The guard said.
"No," I said, shocking him, "I'll do the notification."
"Are you sure?" The guard asked.
"I'm certain." I said, turning my body cam off. I got into my car and turned the ELS off before driving to the hospital. The moment I walked in, a nurse approached me.
"Here to see the filly?" She asked.
"I am." I said.
"Follow me. We'll also check you while you talk." The nurse said.
"It can wait. I need to speak with her alone." I said. The nurse nodded and motioned to the door before leaving. I opened the door and walked in, seeing a doctor and another nurse standing before her. They looked at me and the doctor approached.
"I see you're here to get her statement." The doctor said.
"Give us the room." I said. The doctor and nurse nodded and the filly looked at me. The nurse closed the door behind me and I approached the filly cautiously.
"You're the one who saved me." She said. I stopped beside her and looked solemn.
"I am." I said.
"Thank you! I'm just glad you showed up when you did! That explosion came out of nowhere." She said.
"They're performing an investigation now." I said.
"Where's my parents and my aunts? They came with you, right?" She asked, expecting to see them.
"I'm afraid not." I said, solemnly. She looked confused.
"Are they still at the scene?" She asked.
'This poor girl.' I thought.
"Mister," she said, "you did save them like you did me, right?" I took a breath before looking into her eyes.
"I tried to. I managed to get them free from where they were trapped," I said, "but the roof started collapsing while we were getting out. They ran for the exit as fast as they could, but part of the roof caved in and fell on them." The filly's eyes widened in shock and horror.
"W-what?" She asked.
"I couldn't stop it. If things weren't bad enough," I said, "the gas tank inside the house has overheating. It was about to explode. I had to get out before it did." The filly started tearing up.
"N-no! Y-you're lying!" She said. I shed a tear before shaking my head.
"I'm sorry. I really did try to save them." I said.
"You're lying!" The filly said, tears now flowing down her face.
"They never made it out. If the roof collapsing on them didn't kill them," I said, "then the explosion did. On behalf of the Royal Guard, I'm sorry for your loss." The filly gripped me tight and started bawling her eyes out. I gently held her, rubbing her back. After a few moments, the filly was released and I walked her out.
"C-can you take me back to the scene?" She asked.
"Wanting to say goodbye?" I asked. The filly nodded.
"They should allow that, right?" She asked.
"Yes," I said, "they should." I walked her to my car and opened the front passenger door for her. I helped her in and closed it before going to the driver's side and getting in. Before I drove off, the filly put a hand on my arm and I looked at her.
"C-can you… be there with me?" She asked. I saw sadness in her eyes and nodded.
"Of course. I'll be right by your side." I said. I then put my car in drive and headed back to the scene. When I got there, I turned the ELS on and parked. The guards looked at me as I walked out before realizing what was happening. They stood to the side as I helped the filly out. She grabbed my hand tight as we walked over to where her house once was. She saw four bodies covered with sheets and teared up again. I gave a solemn look to her and knelt down.
"It really is true, isn't it?" She asked.
"You don't have to do this now if you're not ready." I said. She looked at me with tears in her eyes and shook her head.
"I can do this." She said. I nodded and stood up.
"I'm right beside you." I said. I stood up and we both walked towards the scene. I stopped just before and let go of her as she continued walking. I watched as she stopped and looked at the covered corpses of her family. She took a few shaky breaths before her nerves were calm.
"You four were always there for me. I don't know how I'll be able to live without you," she spoke, "but… I know that you wouldn't want me to be depressed over your deaths. I…. I love you all. I'm grateful you were a part of my life for as long as you were. I'll miss you all." She walked up and knelt down, putting a hand on the sheets. As she did so, I saw their spirits appear and they were smiling. They looked at me with grateful looks.
"Please take care of her." They said, speaking in unison. The four spirits then left rose up and I went to attention. The guards that were on scene did the same and we all, simultaneously, saluted. The filly was shedding tears again and gave light sobs. I lowered my salute as the filly turned and ran to me. I knelt down and she hugged me tight. I gave her a gentle hug back and she sobbed into my vest.
"It's okay, little one. It's okay. Just let it out." I said.
"Why did this have to happen? They were good ponies!" She said.
"It's okay. Let it all out." I said.
"Who would do something like this?! WHO WOULD TAKE THE LIVES OF OTHER PONIES ON PURPOSE?!" The filly cried.
"I don't know," I said, "but they're working to find who's responsible." The filly stepped back a bit before looking at me.
"Will you help them?" She asked.
"I wish I could," I said, "but I don't have any official capacity at the moment."
"W-what's your name?" The filly asked.
"My name is Steve Reagan." I said. The filly sniffled and dried her tears.
"M-my name is Scootaloo. T-thank you for saving me," she said, "and for trying to save my family. You're a good stallion. Though, I've never seen anyone like you before. Are you new?"
"I am. I'm not originally from Equestria to begin with. I'm all alone here." I said. Scootaloo was stunned at first, but soon had determination in her eyes.
"Not anymore." She said. I looked at her confused before hearing loud steps. I looked towards the direction they were coming from and saw Princess Celestia and the Mayor with Twilight and the others.
"Steve!" Twilight said. I stood up and Scootaloo hid behind me. They all stopped and looked at me in worry.
"Are you alright, darling?!" Rarity asked.
"You aren't hurt, are you?!" Twilight asked.
"What happened here?!" Pinkie asked. They all started talking over each other and I got annoyed. I gave a loud whistle, but it fell on deaf ears.
"Cover your ears, Scootaloo." I said.
"O-okay." Scootaloo said. I drew my pistol and Scootaloo covered her ears. I raised my pistol in the air and fired off three shots, shutting them up and getting their attention.
"THAT'S ENOUGH!" I yelled. They looked at me in shock and I holstered my pistol. Scootaloo uncovered her ears and looked at them, scared. Princess Celestia then approached and gave a sigh.
"Are you okay, Steve?" She asked.
"I'm fine. Just had to get treated for smoke inhalation. However," I said, "I'm more concerned about the well being of this filly behind me! You guys came rushing up to me after this filly just finished saying goodbye to her family! You should be ASHAMED of yourselves!" They looked stunned before looking at the filly. Spike, the only sensible one among them, looked towards the scene and gasped at seeing the four bodies. Twilight looked as well and realized it. The others did so as well and they all looked solemn.
"W-we're sorry. We forgot this was the scene of an explosion and fire." Twilight said.
"It's not me you should be apologizing to." I said, motioning for Scootaloo to stand before me. As Scootaloo walked, I noticed Fluttershy tearing up. The girls then knelt down and lowered their heads.
"We're sorry for scaring you." Applejack said.
"We had no idea." Fluttershy said.
"I-it's okay. I forgive you." Scootaloo said. The Mayor then approached and I looked at her.
"When I heard that you rushed over here," she said, "I was worried that you wouldn't be able to do anything. I'm glad to know that I've been proven wrong. You saved the life of a young filly, and attempted to save her family. We are honored to have you in Equestria, Steve. Don't worry about your residency forms. The Princess took care of that."
"Thank you." I said. Princess Celestia then walked to me and placed a badge on the left side of my vest. I looked at it and saw it was the badge for the Equestria Police Bureau.
"Spike," she said, "take a letter please." Spike then pulled out a quill and a piece of paper out of nowhere.
"Ready when you are, Princess." He said.
"I," Princess Celestia spoke, "Princess Celestia of Equestria, hereby announce the formation of the Equestria Police Bureau. This agency will replace the stallions from Canterlot, and will serve as Equestria's main defense against the war on crime. I also decree that Steve Reagan, a human from another world, will serve as the Commissioner of the Equestria Police Bureau; and will reside in Ponyville!" I went to attention and saluted.
"I won't fail you, Princess." I said. She gave a nod and I lowered my salute.
"I know you won't." She said.
"We've arranged for you to say in the library for now." The Mayor said.
"Thank you." I said.
"Umm?" Scootaloo asked.
"Hmm? Yes, little one?" The Mayor asked.
"Could I… stay with him?" Scootaloo asked.
"You wish to stay with him? Don't you have other family?" The Mayor asked.
"No. They were all I had left." Scootaloo said. That caused me to look solemn before I looked serious.
'So this is why she said I was not alone anymore.' I thought.
"I'll take her in and raise her." I said. The Mayor, Princess Celestia, Scootaloo, and the others looked at me in shock.
"S-surely you can't be serious!" The Mayor said.
"I am. Scootaloo has no one left," I said, "and I came here with nothing but the car I drive, the weapons I use, the tools I have, and the clothes on my back. Back home, I didn't have anyone. I lost my parents at a young age, and I had to grow up in a broken foster system. I refuse to let Scootaloo endure that pain." Scootaloo then hugged me tight and Princess Celestia shed a tear.
"I agree." She said. The Mayor was stunned, but it soon turned into a smile.
"I shall provide you with the paperwork." The Mayor said. I nodded and Twilight walked up to me, smiling tearfully.
"You did a great thing today." She said.
"I've done more than that." I said.
"I'll say! You stopped a weapons smuggler," Pinkie said, "solved an assault case before the statute of limitations was up, helped start up a kingdom-wide police force, caught a trespasser, exposed two siblings who were sleeping with each other, and saved a filly from a burning house that was about to explode! You just filled up a quota for the Royal Guard just from that alone!" I stayed stoic and Princess Celestia approached and knelt down to Scootaloo.
"What's your name, little one?" She asked. Scootaloo looked at Princess Celestia before getting nervous.
"M-my name is S-Scootaloo, Y-Your Highness." Scootaloo spoke, practically shaking at the knees. Princess Celestia smiled and nodded.
"You can relax, Scootaloo. I might be a bit intimidating," Princess Celestia said, "but only when the situation demands it. I just wanted to know why you trusted Steve so quickly." Scootaloo looked at me and gave a soft smile.
"Because he knows my pain. He knows what I'm going through." Scootaloo said. I looked at her with a smile and she grabbed my hand.
"Let's go." I said.
[Later that night….]
I was relaxing with Twilight as Spike and Scootaloo were sleeping soundly. Twilight was reading a book on different creatures, looking a bit frustrated. I was just sitting in a chair, bored out of my mind. I soon saw Twilight close the book and she looked at me in shock.
"What? Did you find something?" I asked.
"I didn't find anything about humans in here. You've told me so much already!" She said.
"Well," I said, "it's about time I get to bed. I need to be up bright an early tomorrow."
"How so?" Twilight asked.
"I have a morning routine I do. It starts at 0600." I said.
"Huh?" Twilight asked.
'I forgot she has never heard of military time.' I thought.
"Six in the morning." I said.
"Oh! That's a weird way of saying the time." She said.
"Because it's using a 24-hour format." I said.
"Huh?" Twilight asked. I pulled out my phone and showed her the time.
"You see the time on my phone?" I asked.
"Yeah. It says… 22:30. That's not right. It's 10:30." Twilight said.
"It's the same time. This is how a 24-hour format looks. There's 24 hours in a day," I explained, "and this helps reflect that. Whenever the time reaches 12:00 AM using a 24-hour format, it will show 00:00. Then time goes up from there."
"So," Twilight said, "it starts at 00 then goes up from there until it reaches 00 again?"
"Exactly. It's a convenient way of teaching there's more than just 12 hours in a day." I said.
"So using this format," Twilight said, "then 0430 would be 4:30 in the morning. Right?"
"Exactly." I said. Twilight gasped and ran to another bookshelf. She grabbed a book and ran over to me.
"I need your insight on this." She said.
"What is it?" I asked.
"Just look at it." Twilight said. I opened it and saw nothing but symbols.
"All I see are symbols." I said. Twilight facepalmed before casting a spell on my mind. I tensed up and saw several things go through my head. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. After the spell finished, I looked at Twilight in utter shock and anger.
"Is something wrong?" She asked.
"What the fuck did you just do?!" I asked.
"Relax! I just transferred my knowledge of the Equestrian language over to you." Twilight explained. I looked at the book again, and I seemed to understand the symbols now.
"Just give me a warning next time, okay?" I asked.
"Of course. Sorry." Twilight said. I read through the book and saw something familiar.
"Got some paper?" I asked. Twilight grabbed some parchment paper and gave it to me. I pulled out a pen from my polo shirt and started writing down important times.
00:30 – Devise plan for hidden teams
02:20 – Send plan to hidden teams and await results
07:59 – First target takes off
08:14 – Second target takes off
08:20 – Third target takes off
08:42 – Fourth target takes off
08:44 – All targets acquired; Mission begins
08:46 – Primary location struck
09:03 – Secondary location struck
09:37 – Tertiary location struck
10:03 – Fourth target lost before reaching location; Mission failed
Those times and descriptions made me go pale and by blood go cold.
"Is everything okay?" Twilight asked.
"Where did you get this?" I asked.
"That was just released yesterday. I never made any sense of it. Why? Is it bad?" Twilight asked.
"You have no idea." I said.
"Huh?" Twilight asked.
"This details a terrorist plot from my world." I said.
"Wait, WHAT?! Are you sure?!" Twilight asked.
"I am. This detailed the attacks of September 11, 2001 from where I lived. I barely remember anything about it because I was just a baby then," I said, "but these dictate the times of the attacks! If I had any data connection here, I would show you. Wait, that's it!" I ran out to my car and looked in the glove compartment, grabbing a stack of papers before going back inside and handing them to Twilight. She grabbed the papers and looked through them, her face going pale.
"S-sweet Celestia!" She exclaimed. She looked at the times I wrote down and I could tell her blood was going cold.
"I keep that with me to remind me of what my world went through." I said.
"I have to tell the Princess. This book must NOT remain in circulation." Twilight said. She started writing and I looked out the window. Twilight then saw Spike getting some water and went to him.
"T-Twilight?" He asked.
"Spike," she said, "I need this letter sent to the Princess immediately." Spike groggily nodded and took the letter before using his fire to magically send it to the Princess. He got himself some water and started to go upstairs, but stopped as he burped. A letter appeared and Twilight grabbed it and read it. She went over to me and showed it to me.
"The letter is for me?" I asked. Twilight nodded and I took the letter, reading it.
Twilight,
Please make sure you have Steve read everything after this line. This concerns him and not you. Please understand.
To Steve,
Twilight tells me that you know of the event that took place in the book that has just been released. She even provided me with the facts that you gave her. I will have a talk with the author about this, and see that it gets removed. I can tell you don't want to be reminded of your old life. I understand that. Please relax and let me handle this. Should I require you to assist me, I will send a letter through Spike.
Sincerely,
Princess Celestia
I gave a sigh and looked at the time again.
"I'd better get to bed. I have a long day tomorrow." I said. I looked towards Twilight, only to find her asleep on the couch. I walked to her and placed a blanket over her. I then went upstairs and saw two beds. I went to the first one I saw and fell asleep. I didn't know what the next day held for me, but I knew that I had a LOT of different things to go through. I'm just grateful I don't have to be in a world where I'm criticized and judged for what I say or do. No more idiots telling me how to do my job, no more lazy government officials with empty promises, and ESPECIALLY no more mask mandates because of a virus. I just hope it stays that way.
