Eric was driving as fast as he could to Charming without getting a ticket. Given the always traffic clogged freeways, that meant he was going a whopping 30 mph when traffic was moving. They had sort of followed their master plan of dumping the van, setting it on fire and changing to his Ford Fiesta for their escape. The sort of was the problem. That bastard put a round through the radiator and they had to dump the van not in a secluded spot but in a parking lot a block from the park. In all the chaos and confusion, Dan forgot to set the van on fire to destroy any evidence. And now they were in his Fiesta with Carlos sprawled bleeding and probably dying in the backseat. And he would never get all the blood out of the upholstery.

Dan who had been following in the Fiesta was now in the backseat trying to stop a moaning and groaning Carlos from bleeding out. They had made a brief stop at Rite Aid to get some tampons because he'd seen on TV that tampons were good to use to plug bullet holes. Made sense. If it could plug a woman, it could plug a gunshot.

"How's he doing?" Eric asked looking at Dan bent over Carlos.

"He passed out," Dan replied. He was a short bald man with sharp rat-like features. Eric knew him as an assistant director from his animal porn days.

"Well, it's better than hearing him moan," Eric said.

An hour into the drive, Eric handed Dan an envelope of cash and dropped off him in a Target parking lot just off the 60 freeway.

"This never happened," Eric said.

"What?" Dan asked.

"Ha Ha. Very funny," Eric said sourly. It wasn't the time for humor.

"What?" Dan asked puzzled.

Eric rolled his eyes and drove off.

He hadn't called Carl to tell him what was going on. He decided it was better to share that news when he got back to Charming and brought him the wounded Carlos to save. It's like the saying goes it's better to ask for forgiveness then permission.

And Carlos was going to be furious that they probably hadn't killed Knowles and he was going to have to deal with a wounded man.

This was one hell of a cluster fuck. And he thought only the government could screw things up this bad.
