A Helicopter landed on the Spurance's deck, the rotors slowly shut down as the crew climbed off. The ship plowed through the seas as the USS Eliot and Hewitt joined them. The British Destroyers Sheffield and Thunderchild had also joined them, along with the Dutch destroyer Rotterdam.
They gathered around the anomaly, forming a large group around the Enterprise. 7 ships in total had formed up around the anomaly, and each had their crews at the ready incase anything bad happened.
Now, as the setting sun illuminated the fleet in beams, an Admiral walked aboard the ship's interior. He was decorated with medals and the sun glinted off them, and as he came aboard sailors stood at attention.
Once he reached the bridge, the captain stood at attention too, before the admiral put him at ease.
"Captain, we have a lot to discuss." The admiral said and the captain nodded. They both exited the bridge and went down a stairwell to the briefing room where they sat on the chair.
"I didn't get much other than promising a better explanation of the situation as soon as I arrived, and I trust a good explanation will be given." The Admiral muttered.
"Trust me, this was a level of complication too hard to explain over the phone." The Captain said.
The 2 Sat down in a room empty of anyone else, setting out a Tape Recorder for future reference.
"So, Captain, I'd like you to explain what has happened exactly over the course of 24 Hours." The Admiral asked.
The Captain sighed, he had prepared an explanation but it was going to be tough. It was hard to believe it himself quite frankly and now he had to explain that 2 Navy Pilots were dead, another pilot injured and that a F-4N Phantom II had been destroyed along with a UH-1 Huey.
"HMS Thunderchild technically spotted the Anomaly first, although we wouldn't hear about it until Later. Our Radars detected the Anomaly on July 23rd, 1980. We immediately called it in and moved the ship in to investigate, revealing the Leavating Sphere which we have determined to be a Stable Einstein-Rosenburg bridge, a Tunnel Between Realities." The Captain said.
"So…you're saying an Interdimensional opened in the North Sea?" The Admiral asked
"Yes sir." The Captain said.
"Huh…Continue." The Admiral said.
"We alerted the Carrier Enterprise, and the British Admiralty and U.S Navy, who then alerted the necessary nations." The Captain continued, his voice shook as he came up with proper words to say. "We contacted USN Command, who sent a Modified UH-1 to restock on the Spurance to make contact with the other side. Other ships of various types of various nationalities had joined the fleet blockade of the Anomaly." The captain explained, "The UH-1 took off on July 24th, 1500 hours and moved into the anomaly at 1509 hours, where it reported it was in fact an alternate reality before being attacked and downed at 1521 Hours." The Admiral said.
"We scrambled Fighters to investigate, and were engaged by an unknown enemy at 1100 hours on July 25th. 1 Friendly F-4N Phantom was shot down while 4 enemy aircraft were destroyed directly by missiles and at least 5 by the preluding Sonic boom." The Captain explained.
"Which brings us to what we know now, there are 2 factions at least vying for control of the World on the other side of the portal, one is a very hostile faction we have attained as the 'Dragon Hunters' who appear to be a Corporate Army of considerable size, and for their time period technology." The Captain told him. "The other appears to be an advanced Tribal group who call themselves 'Berkians' who appear to be mostly peaceful and have a small military composed of more professional individuals."
"Tribal?" The Admiral asked, "How did the Hunters shoot down the Phantom then if it was simply a Tribal civilization?"
The Captain knew this would be the hard part to explain.
"Well sir, from the report it appears the world on the other side has Aerial creatures capable of training, like horses were back in the day and that they possess built in Fire Capabilities." The Captain said.
"So literally just Dragons?" The Admiral asked.
"Essentially, yes." The Captain responded.
"This is a situation of bizarre proportions, how many men have been lost to the enemy so far?" The Admiral asked.
"Only 2." The Captain responded.
"So American lives and Equipment were lost due to this hostile force?" The Admiral asked.
The Captain gulped, "Yes sir, that's exactly what I'm telling you."
The Admiral nodded, "This will be quite something to report to the Higher ups, In the Meantime I want any additional Data acquired to be filed into paperwork and given to me, and don't let Public ears get ahold of this information." The Admiral said, "I'll keep em occupied on the situation of The Soviet Union and Canada, but you gotta enforce the blockade of this one."
The Captain breathed a Sigh of Relief as the Admiral left the room. He looked out the Small Portside Window, which gave him a perfect view of the vast Expanse of the North Atlantic Ocean and its crashing waves, which moved in perfect Sync across the Distance.
Nature never would be tamed by Mankind.
He got up, pushing the chair in and walking through the door. He held the tape in his hand, he walked to his quarters and placed it on the table, before shutting the door and returning to the bridge.
Outside the Bridge Window shone the Distant Blue Flare that was the Orb, still over a kilometer off was where Spurance held her position. Surrounding it was now around a Dozen Naval warships, the Closest to the Spurance was the British Destroyer Thunderchild, whose 2 Distinct Funnels were visible easily and large Main Guns were seen too. She was much closer than he thought, and he saw the whole fleet had moved into a Circle around the Spherical Portal.
"Enterprise Signaled us the Planes have been refueled and are ready for any additional sorties needed." The Ensign said.
"That's good, we'll be ready for any other BS that comes our way." The Captain sighed.
He looked out again, they hadn't retrieved Nelson from that Island yet. He probably should have asked the Admiral about how they would get him back.
"Captain." Said the Admiral's voice.
He turned, "Admiral, just the man who I was looking for!"
"Not now Captain." The Admiral said, "We have gotten new Orders, the Fleet is to move into position on the Other side of the Portal.
He gulped.
"We already radioed the other ships, we have been tasked with leading the Allied fleet to the other side." The Admiral said.
"Oh Boy." The Captain said.
"Think of it as this will be the first Interdimensional US Navy ship." The Admiral Responded.
"Yep." The Captain groaned.
And so the ships began to move, not towards the portal but into a Formation. They were all soon behind the Spurance, with the USS Enterprise at its Center and Spurance at its head. The Spurance's propellers spurred to life, driving her forward. She was followed by the other ships, moving at a steady 12 knots. Her bow made contact with the Sphere, and she vanished. The Crew of the Spurance felt the spinning Sensation as the Ship tumbled through the Interdimensional bridge, and as soon as it started it ended.
They were in the water, moving forward, in another Dimension.
"We arrived."
