Olivia shuts Noah's bedroom door softly, "He's out like a light."
"He's had a hard week," Elliot says back as she walks towards the kitchen.
She inhales deeply, "Yeah…"
Closing the pantry door he turns towards her sitting on a stool, "So did you."
"Thank you, Elliot," She lets her breath go sharply, "Thank you for picking him up."
Elliot turns to take a step towards the island in the center of the kitchen, "You're family."
Olivia notices Elliot's pantry raiding, "What are you looking for?"
He picks up an empty sugar container and shakes it, "Sugar."
"It's here," Olivia gets up and rounds the corner of the counter to the cabinets, "I have it here somewhere."
In the background, Elliot puts the sugar canister down and ponders. He confidently asks, "Why didn't you call me?"
She closes the cabinet after not finding the sugar, "Because I knew you would try to protect me." Olivia opens the next set of cabinets.
"And what's wrong with that," Elliot is invested in her answer. Olivia can't think of a valid reason to give him. She stays silent while continuing to look for the sugar. Elliot bites his lip in regret about what is going to say, "I care for you." With no response, Elliot takes a step forward, "Liv, look at me." He plants his feet on the ground.
She picks up a packet of sugar out of her cabinet, "Here it is." Olivia turns around to hand him his sugar but stands right in front of her.
Silent, the pair look into each other's eyes. Olivia contemplates her next move as if this was a chess match. Elliot stands there waiting for some sort of response. She slightly jolts her head forward as he whispers, "Liv…"
She shakes her head lightly. Leaning her head against his, she whispers back, "Elliot…" Pressing further into him, her head tilts down towards his shoulder, "Elliot, I want to." She lifts her head up slowly, "I want to but I can't." She shakes her head she leans in and out from his grasp.
He steadies her by lightly holding onto her arms, "Why not?"
"Because…" Olivia takes a breath to realign herself, "What if it doesn't work out?" She rests her head on his again.
He quietly asks in return, "And what if things work out?"
Something in Olivia's head changed. She glanced up and down between Elliot's eyes and his lips. Tilting her head slightly she leans in and lightly presses her lips on his. Elliot backs up in shock and separates himself. He looks into her sparkling eyes and leans back in. He runs his hands up to her neck to brace himself. What felt like an eternity passed by for Elliot when Olivia decided to part from his embrace. She backs up, "Elliot I'm not ready." Taking another step back leaning against the fridge she states again, "I'm not ready for this."
Stepping back Elliot apologizes, "I'm sorry…" He grabs his jacket leaning on the chair and makes his way slowly to the door hoping she would take it back. Reaching the door he announces, "Goodnight."
Olivia, still leaning against her fridge nods and softly retorts, "Goodnight, Elliot."
Elliot makes sure to shut the door quietly so as to not wake Noah or startle Olivia. In the hallway, he stares at the door wishing she would open it. Elliot takes his disappointment with him down the hall and out to his car.
She takes a deep breath and looks up at the door separating her and Elliot. Without even realizing it, she is shuffling towards the door. She reaches the door and puts her hand on the knob. In defeat, she lets go of the knob, turns around, and collapses onto her couch. Trying to fall asleep, she stares at the door. Olivia turns over and pulls out her phone from her pocket. Opening her messages, she notices a text from Elliot, a photo. She clicks on his message and sees an image of her front door with an envelope lying in front of it. As she gets up to retrieve the envelope, another message comes through. Olivia reads, "The rough draft."
She swings her door open and sees the envelope sitting on her doormat. Olivia bends down to pick it up, closes the door, and sits on the couch. Deciding whether or not to subject herself to what Elliot calls, 'the rough draft." She swipes open her phone, punching in her passcode '6313,' and dials up Amanda.
