Author's note: Here I am with the first part of the omake of The Contract series! This is a sequel to The Dotted Line and takes place during the Sign Here part. This will show parts of Sasuke's hunt all the way up to the actual wedding :) It should also be two parts only, but well, we know my brain likes to screw me over a lot, so we'll see.
You might want to have read The Dotted Line and Sign Here before reading this one to familiarise yourself with the setting.
Warnings: Sasuke's pov; alternate universe; established slash; medievalish setting; demon Sasuke; Omega Naruto; torture; NOT FOR SAKURA FANS!
Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto. Kishimoto owns it.
I hope you'll like this first part!
Part 1
In the demonic realm it could be said that there was a form of hierarchy present. The weaker one was, the lower ranked. It was that easy. Strength was partly determined by one's birthright, partly by power built up as one grew. One could gain power through being summoned or through defeating other demons. Gaining the upper hand over stronger demons was the quickest way to increase one's strength, but also carried the biggest risk. Becoming stronger through summons took longer, but was safer.
The hierarchy didn't keep lower ranked demons from challenging stronger ones; it was their right to do so even when it could have severe consequences. There were certain demons, however, who nobody quite dared to challenge. These demons were considered to be so powerful that going up against them would certainly lead to forfeiting one's life. The Pain Demon, Nagato, was such a formidable foe. Able to split himself into different versions, each with their own specific powers, nobody could even hope to land a blow on him, let alone try to gain the upper hand. Two had tried, none had succeeded.
The Blue Skinned Demon, Kisame, had slaughtered an entire region before the other demons decided it was in their best interest to leave him be. The many stories about the Thread Shadow Kakuzu and his tendency to rip out the hearts from his enemies ensured that nobody dared to attack him either, leaving him alone in the cave he had made his home.
Then there were Sasuke and his family. Hailed as being amongst the strongest demons only the most mindless would dare to attack them. It happened, such attacks, but they were rare precisely because word quickly spread about the family's ruthlessness. From Fugaku's cold-blooded approach to Sasuke's merciless slaughtering, only the worst of fools would believe they stood a chance against them. Certainly, there was the occasional human who thought they could try to trick them or weasel their way out of the contract, but they never succeeded. A fact King Neji had discovered to his own peril. Sasuke had had to chase him down for a while, longer than it had taken him to track down all those other humans, he had to admit, but in the end the king had been no match for Sasuke.
Most demons knew better than to attempt to antagonise Sasuke or his family – which made it all the more surprising when it did happen.
It had been a while since he last had to deal with a possible upriser, Sasuke considered detached as he walked in the direction from where the threatening growls were being emitted. He would almost admire them for the absolute gall they had displayed, trying to go after what was his, but his fury was too grand for admiration to grow. They had tried to take Naruto away from him, they would pay severely. Over and over again. Until they could no longer even beg for the sweet release of death. Sasuke considered himself to be a ruthless but fair leader: if one did not try to usurp, he left them alone. Most of the demons belonging to his domain were useful in their own after all; there was no point in destroying them all when they could be of use. Once they overstepped their boundaries, however, they were fair game.
He noticed the Kyuubi first. It was difficult not to notice the creature, after all, with its considerable bulk, its many tails and the threatening, lethal aura it was currently spreading out, flooding its surroundings with it. Its venom was dripping in a controlled manner on each side of the demoness it had trapped between its ginormous paws, ensuring she could not try to escape lest she wanted to risk searing her face off with the biting liquid.
The pink hair of the demoness did not immediately call up any memories until he stopped right next to her and took a good look at her face. Wide green eyes stared back at him in fright and he vaguely remembered having seen her before. Was she not a Curer trained by Tsunade herself? Yes, she was, albeit a very lowly ranked one. She had shown some aptitude, Tsunade had once remarked, but she was nowhere near the level of being a Great Curer. She had done all right, however, good enough that Tsunade no longer had to hold her hands.
"You did a good job holding her down," Sasuke praised the Kyuubi. Personally it was not a creature he was fond of, but it had taken to protecting Naruto and Aiko with a fervour rivalling that of Sasuke's and he could respect that.
The Kyuubi snarled, snapped its jaws at the demoness before retreating a couple of steps, allowing Sasuke to get a good look at her. Some of the pink strands had already been burnt to a crisp by the venom and there were bloodied grooves alongside her upper arms from where the Kyuubi had dug its claws in. When the Kyuubi started swishing its many tails rather violently, stirring up a mini tornado of dust and leaves, she flinched and attempted to scramble upwards, halting only when Sasuke drew his blade of lightening and held it close to her throat.
"M-my L-Lord," she stammered, awkwardly bracing her elbows against the ground.
"I do believe I saw your face amongst the crowd the day I announced that Naruto was to be left alone by the lot of you," he mused aloud.
Behind him the Kyuubi huffed and there was a scraping noise as if it was sharpening its already razor sharp claws.
"Was I not clear enough back then?"
"Y-you w-were v-v-very cl-clear, m-my-my Lord," she stuttered and some beads of sweat started coating her hairline.
"I am starting to doubt that, given what I have just read," he smiled thinly. "It must be frustrating, not even being able to trick a human. Unfortunately for you my mate is quite proficient at reading and understanding our language already."
"I – I – I don't know what you are talking about, my – my Lord," she said nervously and swallowed audibly; her throat bobbing visibly underneath the sharp tip of his blade.
"Hm, so you are just merely the messenger then?" he spoke idly and started walking around her, watching the way she craned her neck to keep him in her sight. "That is quite interesting then, because why would a Curer turn into a simple messenger?"
"I – I was me-merely told to de-deliver the scroll to – to your Intended, my Lord," she said and her nails started digging into the sand. She stopped immediately when the Kyuubi's tails smacked heavily down on the ground.
"Right, and you have no clue what is inside that scroll," he sneered and paused right in front of her.
She shook her head almost violently; her hair whipping her across her face. "I have no idea, my Lord! I swear!"
"You see, I do not put much value into that oath of yours when you apparently came across as threateningly enough for my mate to sic his guard on you," he smiled coldly. "I also do not believe you have no idea what is written inside this scroll. The only question I do ask is why you thought you could get away with this. I know you are not ranked that highly, but surely even as the lowest ranked Curer, you should possess more sense than this," he said critically.
Her shoulders started to shake and a wet sheen covered her eyes. Pathetic. "I swear, my Lord, I never meant any harm to your Intended! I have no idea what is written inside that scroll!"
"It is easy, naturally, to claim to mean no harm when you would let someone else do the dirty work for you," he mused aloud and poured more energy into his blade until it shone so brightly the demoness had to close her eyes and cover them with her arms or risk being blinded. "If you wanted my attention, congratulations, you got it now. And I am absolutely dying to know just how many others you have just pulled down with you."
He raised his blade, the lightening crackled, and then he struck. Blood spurted out in a big arch and two dull thumps followed as the demoness' arms fell down on the ground, painting the ground red. She screamed, the noise piercing and aggravating, and Sasuke clucked his tongue, using the handle of his blade to knock her out. He put his blade away and with a snap of his fingers a ball of fire appeared in the palm of his hand. Holding it out to the bleeding stumps, he used the flames to sear the skin close. He had plans for her and it would not do if she bled out already.
Snuffling noises had him turning his head slightly and he grew slightly amused when he spotted the Kyuubi positively salivating; its eyes fixated on the bloodied arms. He supposed considering the restrictions he had set up in order for the creature to be allowed to spend time with his mate and child, it had been a while since the Kyuubi last had some fresh meat. He doubted those measly two arms would be able to sustain the beast for long, but who was he to deny his mate's guard of some earnt rewards?
"Feel free to enjoy them," he told the Kyuubi, who regarded him suspiciously. "She won't have any need for them anymore."
After one more suspicious look, the Kyuubi positively pounced on top of the discarded arms and started tearing the skin to shreds, eager to get to the muscle and bones underneath it. Wet sounds filled the air, together with the creature's pleased noises, and it didn't take long before bones snapped underneath its strong jaw, the wet sounds replaced by those of crunching and growling.
"Once you are finished, return to Naruto," Sasuke ordered and sat down on his haunches, idly studying the unconscious body of the demoness stupid enough to try to attack his family. "She and I are going to have a nice conversation somewhere else."
The Kyuubi grunted in acknowledgement and started digging into the second arm, taking a moment to spit out the thin fingers. They must not have been filling enough or simply not tasty enough for the beast's liking, because by the time it was finished eating, only the fingers were left, spit out in several directions.
The beast grunted, narrowed its eyes at the demoness before it pawed at the ground and ran back, returning to Sasuke's home.
That left him with the demoness and he sneered, snatching her up by her hair. She dangled like a limp doll in his hand and with a flick of his hand he opened a portal that would lead them to a place he solely reserved for occasions like this one.
He started by pulling out strands of hair, ripping it out of her scalp brutally and listening unaffectedly to her screams and cries. When nothing save for some thin patches of hair were left, he turned his attention to her skin. Slowly, methodologically he skinned her. He started with the remainders of her arms, peeling away the skin until shiny red muscle was revealed.
That had her vomiting, which made him roll his eyes. Truly she was so low ranked that she could not even handle this? He had not even started on the rest of her body!
"I am certain that there are enough stories going around about my family, proving why it is a very poor idea to try to attack us," he spoke and started slicing away the skin of her stomach, hearing her choke in her own sobs. "Yet here you are, actually believing that you could manage where nobody else has ever succeeded. That is not even admirable, that is plain idiocy."
Throwing away the skin, he started taking apart her legs next, watching amused how she tried to thrash her way out of the binds he had put her in. So she did possess some fight after all. Too bad that instinct reared its head far too late.
"You could make it easy for yourself, you know," he continued in a conversational tone, digging into the muscle of her left thigh until he could see a sliver of white peeking through the muscles. "You tell me who else you got involved aside from the demon mentioned in the scroll and this will all be over soon."
"I – I – I tell – tell you, I – I promise," she blubbered, already having neared her limits.
He paused and glanced at her before taking a step back. "Start talking," he advised her coldly.
She did so, spilling her secrets quicker than any other demon Sasuke had taken care of before and by the time she stopped, nearly choking in her own vomit and blood, he had a list of names he would be paying a visit soon.
"I – I – g-gave you all the names, I – I swear," she coughed.
"I believe you," he smiled blandly, because clearly she had not inherited the endurance of most strong demons. "I did say this would be over soon then."
His favourite dagger materialised in his hand and he slammed it down into her chest, right underneath her heart. She choked, her body spasming, and stared at him wild-eyed.
"I said this would be over once you talked – I never said I would let you leave," he smiled cruelly. "Thank you so much for your help, I appreciate it so much," he added mockingly.
He turned then, ignoring her pleading and crying, and opened a new portal, one that would bring him home. He had a list of demons that needed to be punished next, but for now he would return to his mate first and soothe his ire with his mate's loving presence.
After that …
The hunt would start.
