Chapter 1: Problem from China

in the suburbs of Clearbay a girl around her 16 was getting ready to meet someone. The girl had white skin, almost pale, she was wearing a black leather jacket, under it a blue t-shirt and a pair of blue shoes. Her hair was black as the night sky, but had some blue locks that even being the minority highlighted her green eyes. She looked at herself in the mirror when..."Christine come here and help me with the clothes!" shouted her mother.

"I'm going." she answered while she was going down the stairs. She reached where her mother was and picked up the clothes that her mother was holding and then took them to the laundry. "Mom, you know that I am not going to stay here today, aren't you?"

"Of course, today you were going to meet with that group of friends that you know online, but are you sure this is a good idea?"

"Yes, I'm sure. I know it is strange to go out with people that I don't know face to face, but I know then, at least online, but I know then and I know they cannot be worse than Jessica" she answered her mother while putting the clothes on the washing machine.

"jessica our neighbor that was your friend? she isn't so bad it's only in your head." She got upset. 'Only in your head' she said, her mother didn'd understand that Jessica used her as the target of her bullying. with that on her mind she went to the door and opened it. The sun was shining and dazzling with it brightness.

Meanwhile in the house next to the Rebels' house Jessica was doing the same as her 'pet', as she used to call Christine, this was a nickname she like to use because she could do anything with her that nobody would try to stop her. She was daughter of an important and rich politician so when she was in problens she usualy would say the name of her father to escape from any problem. "Blue or pink?" She said to herself tring to choose between the two skirts that she was holding. She had brown eyes and skin the color of an oak, she had too a long dark brown hair. She threw the blue one at her bed."Pink of course".

She went down the stairs wearing the pink skirt from before, a pink t-shirt and white shoes. She went to the door but before she could open it she was called by a masculine voice."Where are you going?"

"I am just going out with some friend i met online, dad" she said before turning around to face her father, only to see him sit in a armchair without takes the eyes of the newspaper.

"Just be careful" he said without takes the eyes of the newspaper

She sighed seeing the attitude of her father, she turned around again with a disappointed face and opened the door.

In an apartment near the center of the city a man around 19 years old was sleeping until the alarm woke him up. He looked drowsily to the clock and was surprised. "I'm going to be late for meet at the cafe." He shouted to himself and started to get ready, hastily, to the meeting he had in two hours. All the noise caused by the young man woke up another person at the same room.

"What is happening Mark?" A girl said sleepy to the boy.

"Do you remember the meeting that i had with those guys i met at that forum of power rangers fans?" He said embarrassed.

"The one that was tomorrow?"

"Yeah, it is in half an hour, honey." He said while putting on a pair of jeans.

"You said it was on monday. You said you were going to spend today with me!" She replied while her boyfriend was putting on a red t-shirt.

"Yeah, I said but i confused the date, sorry. I know I promised I would spend today with you, but I need to go on this meeting. I will meet some rangers fans from this city." He said putting a black shoes. "How am i?"

"You are handsome, these black curly hair of yours, I love it. But the clothes are wrinkled." She said then got up from the bed before kissing the cheek of her boyfriend. "I will let it go this time, but nevermore put me aside because of your obsession with rangers".

"I love you. Until the afternoon Alice."

"I love you too. Until the afternoon Mark." She said and he opened the door of the room to go to the meeting.

In a Cafe near the center of Clearbay a pair of boys, the younger one a latin around 24 who was wearing a yellow jacket, white t-shirt and a pair of brown pants, the older one around 25 was wearing a green t-shirt and gray sweatpants. "Why did you schedule the meeting in the middle of our working hours?" The younger one questioned.

"can't we have some fun while at work?"

"Yeah we can..." He said to his friend in a thoughtful tone. "But not in a meeting with a bunch of friends are you trying to make us get fired?" he changed the tone to a harsher tone.

"When you say this way it sounds like a bad idea. We will be fine, Mr. Mikata is a nice boss." he said in a relaxed tone.

"I swear if we get in some problem because of you I will kill you." he said letting out a little laugh, expressing he was joking.

"By the way, the meet is in a few minutes, they must be here at any moment" The older one said.

While in an unknown location, a hooded figure was in front of an old suitcase that had something shining in five different colors inside. "She is awaking, you five can feel it, isn't it? I hoped it would takes more a hundred years." The hooded figure said in a sad tone. "So it is time to find them, let's go" They said, taking the suitcase and went inside the darkness.

Meanwhile, back at the cafe, Christine was searching for her online friends only to be cut by a certain girl. "Why are you here? I do not humiliate you enough at school for you to come look for me on school vacation?"a voice behind her said in a sarcastic tone.

She turned back only to see the last person she wanted to see. "Jessica what are you doing here?" she replied sharply.

"For your information I came to meet some friends that I met online and you, what are you, doing here?"

"I was going to meet some friends..."She started before being stoped by a thought. "Wait a minute, did this friend you was going to met are from a rangers fans forum?" She said with an interrogative tone.

Jessica was hitted by the same thought that had hitted Christine. "You are the Wolfgirl" She said almost shouting in a surprised tone. All the confusion caught the attention of two employees of the cafe

"You are the Royalgirl" Christine said almost at the same time Jessica had said, and with the same tone. They looked at each other with discredited eyes. "The same girl that makes my life a hell is the same sweet girl who I have been telling all my problems to!"

"Let me tell you, I would never give advice if I knew it was you." She almost screamed.

"Excuse me, but you two are causing some troubles, then if you have some problem with each other please can you two stop, or at least tell me what is happening here." an employee with a yellow jacket came to talk with the girls being followed by one with a green t-shirt.

"I will tell you." Jessica started to talk. "What is happening is that I came here to meet some friends i met in an online forum and..."

"Wait, you are the girls from the rangers fans forum that we was going to meet today." The one with the green t-shirt interrupted. "I thought that you were nice."

"Back to what i was saying, this goth is causing some troubles to me" Jessica said.

"Was I causing troubles? You are the one that bullies me in any place we meet!" Christine started. "You are the problem here..." She continued but was interrupted by a guy wearing a red t-shirt that came running inside the cafe. The new guy was sweat, probably because of running to the cafe, he looked to the group that was having a argument and said panting:

"Are you the guys that i was going to meet here today?" All the four exchanged looks with each other before look back at the guy.

"Yes, but i think that this is more a argument between this two than any other thing..." The one with the yellow jacket started before being interrupted by the abrupt sound of metal scraping in the asphalt. "What was this?" all the five people came outside of the cafe.

The scene that they were seeing was unbelievable: a car overturned in the middle of the street. They were trying to understand what had happened until a sound guided the attention of the group to a group of humanoid figures with a white skin but without eyes or any other human trait except that they were wearing clothes that looked like the ones from ancient china and each one was carrying a spear. They were destroying any place they passed and were chasing the people.

While the five were watching the scene with horror a child that was running from the creatures stumbled, the creature was ready to thrust the spear at the child when a can hit it head, it didn't seem to make any damage, only distracted it, giving time for the child to run away. The creature looked to where the can came from only to look to the five where Jessica had the arm stretched out, indicating that she was the one that threw the can at it. "I think this was a bad idea." She regretted her last action. The creature came running toward her with the spear aiming at her, when she was going to be hit by the spear she was pulled off the way of the spear by the boy with the green t-shirt. She looked to her savior, but before she could say anything he looked to the creature and said:

"didn't taught to not hit a girl?" He advanced towards the creature avoiding the spear and punched it in the face. The creature didn't show any reaction toward the punch. It swayed the spear and threw him some meters away using the spear handle. He was knocked out. The others seeing the situation made a decision.

"You take him to a safety place." The guy with the red t-shirt said pointing to Jessica. "I take care of this thing"

"I will help you, this thing knocked out my best friend."

"I don't see any reason i can't help with this." The guy with the yellow jacked and Christine respectively said. The one with the red t-shirt quickly nodded before the three turned to face the creature. Without them knowing a hooded figure was hidden in the shadows watching all the scene.

"What do you think of them?' The figure said, looking at the suitcase that she was holding. Inside the suitcase five colored lights started to shine. "Let's just see if they are really worthy."

The three advanced toward the creature. The guy with the yellow jacket tried to kick the creature's chest only to have his foot be caught in mid air by it, then the creature pushed his foot throwing him some meters away without any difficulty. Christine flinched seeing the guy being thrown away but the guy with the red t-shirt went toward it and tried to punch it in the face only to be thrown toward the guy with the yellow jacket. Christine was paralyzed by the strength of the creature, it, seeing the opportunity, got ready to throw the spear at her.

Jessica, seeing that it was going to throw it at Christine, started to run toward her and jumped, getting her out of the way of the spear. "Why did you save me? I thought you hated me." Christine said while the creature was looking for something, now that it didn't have its spear. Its eyes locked on a car that was there.

"There is a big difference between hate you and let you die." Jessica said, feeling the adrenaline of the situation. All the boys joined them, the one with green t-shirt had woke up while the other two were getting their ass kicked, all the five were looking with fear at the creature that was going toward the car. When it reached the car it put it hands under the car and started to lift it, without difficulty, above it head then turned toward the five and threw it at them. When the car was merely inches from they, to the point they were already accepting death, a gray light covered them as they disappeared before the car could hit them.

The group found themselves in an unknown place, it looked like a cave with a stone table in the center. They were confused and trying to understand where they were until a familiar hobbed figure emerged from the shadows. "Fortunately you five are fine." The mysterious figure said.

"Who are you and where are we?" Christine asked desperate for answers.

"I will explain everything." The hooded figure said "My name is Xin and you are at the underground of the moon temple."

"How did we get here? This temple is on the other side of the city. And why did you bring us here" The one with yellow jacket asked

"Let's start by the end, I need you to take care of the yaoguais, that thing you were fighting, they are old chinese spirits that were corrupted by the powers of an old witch, the Siwang. A long time ago..." Xin started before a thought hit her. "I almost forgot, what are your names?"

"Ryan." The one with green t-shirt said

"Flynn." the one with yellow jacket said

"Jessica."

"Christine."

"Mark. How do you think we will be able to beat that things? One of them threw a car at us" The one with red t-shirt said

"With this." Xin said, put the suitcase on the table and opened it, revealing five devices that looked like black old flip cell phones with golden details. "The zodiac morphers."

"Wait, did you say morphers? Like the ones that give powers to the rangers?" Mark said while stretching his arm to take one of the devices before Flyn's hand stop him

"Wait a minute, Mark, let's say we believe in all of your storie. Why give morphers to a bunch of strangers?" Flynn asked

"I was watching everything you were doing against the yaoguais, i saw that even without powers to help, you were trying to." Xin said while Christine looked down sad because she thought that she hadn't helped during the fight.

"Why do you think we would believe in you?" Flynn said skeptical. Xin was sad by his reaction until an idea hit her head.

"I forgot to say how you got here." She said "I brought you all here with my magic"

"Did you think that this would make us believe..." Flyn started when he got amazed by the five devices that started floating until they stop in front of each. "Okay, now I believe." He finished impressed Before each one take the device in front of them

"How does this thing work?" Jessica asked, trying to understand the device in her hands.

"Just open it, insert the disc on the opening, spin it and say 'Zodiac awaken'. Any questions?"

"Which disc?" Ryan asked

"Did i forgot this too?" She asked while searching in her pockets for the discs. "Here." She found them. She went in front of each of them and gave each one a disc with a different color, Ryan's was green, Flyn's was yellow, Jessica's was pink, Christine was blue and Mark's was red. Each one of them opened their morpher, put their respective disc inside, then each of the morphers shone in the color of the disc that was inside, freeing from each one some kind of floating light. The lights went to the shoulder of the person holding the morpher from where each was freed, scaring the five, before starting to shine even brighter.

"What are these things?" Jessica asked with fear

"They are the zodiac animal spirits, They are the ones who will give you the powers and each of them correspond to a chinese zodiac sign." Xin said and looked at the green light on Ryan's shoulder. "Ryan, you will have the resistance of the bull."The light transformed into a translucent green bull, with a length of approximately 3 inches. Seeing this Xin turned to Flynn. "Flynn, the force of the tiger." The yellow light transformed into a translucent yellow tiger, with the same size as the bull. She turned to Jessica "Jessica, the morals of the boar." The pink light transformed into a translucent pink boar, the same size of the others.

"Why from all the twelve signs, I take just the overgrow pig" she muttered sarcastically to herself. Xin turned to Christine.

"Christine, The loyalty of the wolf." The blue light transformed into a translucent blue wolf, with the same size as the others. She turned to Mark. "And, by last the leader, Mark, the ability of the monkey" the red light transformed into a red translucent monkey. All of the five were amazed by the spirits. "Now, i think you would prefer morph before i teleport you back to the fight."

"Let's go" Mark said and all the five put the discs and spun their disc.

"Zodiac awaken" The five said in unison. All the spirits flew up before turning back and collided with their respective owner and then shone in their respective color. When the lights faded away the five were there, morphed.

"I feel... different." Christine said while analyzing her suit, which was mainly light blue except for the white gloves and boots that had golden details, her suit had a white belt with a golden buckle and had a skirt with the same color as the suit. Her suit had a golden symbol of the chinese zodiac. Her helmet was the same color as the suit and remembered an wolf head with a open mouth, where the visor was, the visor was black with two silver fangs on the top, one on each side.

"I don't know you but i feel stronger." Flynn said contemplating his suit, which was like Christine's except the main color which was yellow, the helmet shape that looked like a tiger, it too had two silvers fangs but they were at the bottom of the visors, and his suit didn't had a skirt.

"You look awesome, pal." Ryan said looking at his friend, Ryan's suit was like Flynn's except by the color, Ryan's was green, and the helmet shape, that looked like a bull and had two short silver horns at the sides.

"I loved this suit. Pink is the best." Jessica said, amazed by her suit that was like Christine's except the color, which was pink, and the helmet shape, that looked like a boar and had two silver tusks at the bottom of the visor.

"This is a dream that becomes real" Mark muttered to himself, amazed by his suit that looked like Flynn's but red and with the helmet shape looked like a monkey.

"Is everyone ready?" Mia asked.

"Yes, we are ready" Mark answered and the others nodded. Xin stretched her arm toward the five and a gray light cover them then they disappeared

"Good luck rangers."

Back at the center of the city the yaoguais were causing chaos when a gray light shone then the five apeared where the light had been. "Hey." Mark said, catching the attention of the yaoguais. "Let's take care of them." The rangers nodded and each one went toward a group of yaoguais.

Ryan went toward a group that was in front of the cafe. A yaoguai tried to stab him, he dodged and punched the yaoguai in the chest, throwing it meters away before it evaporated in a white smoke."Who knocked who out now?" Seeing their partner be defeated, the others yaoguais charged toward him. Two of them swayed their spears, one in each side, Ryan holded the handle of the spears before they could reach him, then he used them as support to drive a kick in the two. Another group of yaoguais went toward him.

Jessica went toward a group that was in the middle of the street. three yaoguais went toward her, she drove a kick at the chest of the first that threw it in the others two making the three evaporate. "is that all you have?" She said as others five yaoguais went toward her. She took a flying in the first, puched simultaneously other two, and when the other two tried to stab her, she dodged making them stab each other. Another group of yaoguais went toward her. "Do you want the same fate than your friends? I will be happy to make your wish."

Flynn went toward a group that was in a construction site. As he reached there some of the yaoguais went toward him. One of them tried to swing it spear trying to cut him, he lowered his body, dodging the attack as it cut a concrete pillar. "Be more careful, this can hurt someone." he said as he took advantage of the opportunity and aproached the yaoguai and punched it into another one.

Christine was fighting against bunch of yaoguais who had surrounded her. "didn't teach you that is wrong to attack a defenseless girl?"One of them tried to stab her, but she blocked it with her arm, holded it, pulled it and kicked the yaoguai at where its face would be. "Okay, I'm not so defenseless. Who is next?" She said the last part in a defiant tone.

Mark was fighting against a group of yaoguais in front of a werehoue. He drove a low kick in one, punched another in the chest then one tried to stab him. He jumped over it and did a flying kick in its back. "better luck next time." Another one tried to swing its spear to hit him but he holded the spear with one of his hands and pushed it, throwing the yaoguai into another one.

Meanwhile in an unknown place that looked like a crypt, a female humanoid figure was chained in a way she couldn't moving except by move the arms a little. "So they are trying to stop my return." She said

"I think so, mistress." Said a shadow figure that was near her. "I think that because of all the chaos that we got originally, you now have enough energy to let someone stronger than those ordinary yaoguais free."

"In my state, only five minutes. Who would you suggest?"

"Xiezhi."

"Bring him to me, so I can free him to the human world."

Back at the fight almost all the yaoguais were defeated leaving only one to be destroyed. It was in front of the five rangers at the construction site. "Just one more and this will be finished" Mark said before kicking the yaoguai, making it evaporate.

As the smoke was dissipating, a fissure opened in the air letting a spirit escape from it. The rangers were cautiously watching the spirit land and take the shape of a humanoid, it had a goat head but all the body was covered by grey scales and only one horn at its forehead. "So you are the ones that are causing problems to my mistress." The spirit said

"What are you? You are different from the others yaoguais." Ryan asked

"I don't owe you explanations." The creature said as its horn started to shine. He aimed his horn at Ryan and fired a yellow lightning from his horn at him, making sparks fly from his suit as he flinched. "Did you like my judgment horn?" If not you will hate my next shoot" he aimed at Mark, his horn started to shine and he fired. Mark jumped to his left dodging the lightining that hit one of the buildings of the site that was almost completed, destroying it.

"You can shoot all you want, but we won't back down" Mark said as he stood up and the rangers charged toward the creature. Flyn was the first one, he punched the creature then tried to kick him only to be blocked in the air by the creature that holded his leg in the air and threw him to the side. The next one was Jessica who did a flying kick that made the creature back up a little, he held her arm before firing a lightning at her and releasing her arm.

"How will we defeat this thing?" Christine asked the other rangers. I think I can help. A familiar voice said in her head. "Xin? How are you talking to us?" I am using my magic to talk to you telepathically. And to call your zodiac weapons, just focus and the disc to call them will appear in your hand. She did as Xin had said she focused and her morpher and a blue disc appeared in her hands. She opened the morpher and inserted the disc. "Zodiac weapon-" She spun the disc and a dao(a chinese saber) appeared in her hand. It was blue at the handle and silver at the blade, the blade had some smaller blades that made it look like a wolf tail. "- wolf saber!" She said, then advanced toward the monster and slashed him at the chest as sparks flew from him.

"Don't take all the fun!" Mark said as he focused and his morpher and a red disc appeared in his hands, he opened his morpher and inserted the disc. "Zodiac weapon-" He spun it. "- monkey staff!" He said as a red staff with golden details at the end. He advanced toward the monster and hit him with the end of the staff making him step back as sparks flew from his body.

"Let's make him regret attacking this city." Flyn said as he summoned his morpher and a yellow disc, then he opened the morpher and inserted the disc. "Zodiac weapon-" Then he spun the disc. "Tiger nunchaku!" As he said, a yellow nunchaku with golden details at the end of each baton that looked like the mouth of a tiger. He advanced toward the monster and hit him with the nunchaku making sparks fly from him.

The two rangers that were hit by the lightning seeing the others fighting the monster with their weapons, they decided to make the same, they called their morphers and discs, Jessica's was pink and Ryan's was green, they inserted them in the morphers "Zodiac weapon-" The two called in unison as they spun them.

"- boar shield"

"- ox hammer" Then the weapons appeared in the hands, Jessica's was a pink shield shaped like a boar with two silver blades where the tusks would be, Ryan's was a big green hammer that had a silver handle with a little spike at the end. The two advanced toward the monster. He saw the two rangers who would join the fight, aimed his horn and fired a lightning at them.

"I won't get hit the second time by the same trick!" Jessica said as she raised her shield protecting her and Ryan from the attack while they were running toward the monster. When near enough Jessica pulled the shield and used the shield to hit the monster, leaving an opening. Ryan took advantage of the opening, hit the monster head breaking his horn.

"What have you done?!" the monster shouted desperately.

"You didn't like your new look?" Ryan asked sarcastically as the other rangers formed a line in front of the monster, in the center were Mark to his left were respectively Flynn and Ryan and to his right were Christine and Jessica respectively. The monster was panting because of all the fight, he knew he was at a disadvantage against the five. Suddenly a fissure appeared again in the air, this time it sucked everything around.

"Well, my time here ended for now, but next time I will destroy you!" The monster said as the fissure sucked him before it closed. A gray light covers the rangers again making them vanish in the air.

Back at the temple underground, the five rangers were now unmorphed in front of Xin ready to ask questions about what happened. "Now that the city isn't in imminent danger, we would like the complete history about that thing and the yaoguais." Flynn demanded.

"First i think you would like to follow me to the part of the temple above the ground." Xin said as she guided them to a stair and then to another part of the temple, this one had various tapestries. "Millennia ago, an evil sorceress tried to take control of the world." She stopped in front of a tapestry that showed a humanoid figure in the center holding a scepter. Around it many people were running but something green was being sucked from them. "She was powerful and had a dangerous ability: she could turn fear into power. After creating chaos enough she used the power that she had gathered and opened the Diyu..."

"Sorry, but what is Diyu?" Jessica asked, interrupting Xin.

"It's where your soul goes when you die." Xin answered. "Normally the souls don't spend much time there before being reincarnated, but if the person was bad they would suffer some punishment according to what they did, beside that it is where malefic spirits and some fallen celestial creatures. Back to the history." She walked to another tapestry this one with a men using ancient chinese clothes with twelve animals around him. " She opened the Diyu and let all those evil spirits free on our world. They brought destruction and more chaos, increasing the sorceress powers. All humankind was endangered. But near the chinese new year a powerful wizard found a way to stop her. The wizard called all the animals spirits to help him, but only twelve spirits came. He gave to the spirits the ability to create a link between them and humans. they would access a new power, able to stop the sorceress but they would need to be sealed in some object to canalize the power. the spirits agreed then he sealed the spirits in what nowadays your morphers are."

"Wait, they look a little too much like old cell phones to have been made milennia ago." Flynn asked

"This is because the zodiac morphers can change their forms in a way they look like some ordinary object." Xin answered, a little stressed by being interrupted the second time. "The wizard found twelve warriors and gave them the powers of the spirits. They fought against the sorceress and her army. After many battles they sealed her in a part of the Diyu made especially for her. Unfortunately they knew she would find a way out; it was only a matter of when. And these 'when' is coming, she already has power to free some weak yaoguais. She will join more power over time and free stronger spirits until she has enough power to open the Diyu and free herself and the Yaoguais. This is the that history was told generation after generation and became the story of the chinese zodiac. Some question?"

"You said that this history became the story of the chinese zodiac and the chinese zodiac as well as your history were twelve spirits and we are only five. Where are the other seven?" Ryan asked

"During the fight against the sorceress seven of the warriors ended fall and their morphers lost." Xin answered as the others got aware of the dangers of be a ranger.

"Where did you enter the history?" Mark asked

"After the fight the wizard took the morphers to a family of guardians, and that was my family. Some people tried to take the morphers so my ancestors lived wandering searching for a safe place, then they found it, at this coastal city in Maine."

"What was that thing we fought? He didn't look like the others yaoguais." Flyn asked

"Unfortunately, I am not sure about what he was. He looked like a xiezhi, but the xiezhis were symbols of justice, they would never serve Siwang. Maybe during this time she found a way to fuse a yaoguais and other creatures to make her army more powerful. It is only a theory, i would need a part of him to analyze."

"Like this part of his horn?" Ryan said as the other looked at him. "Why is everybody looking at me?"

"Why did you take the horn of that yaoguai" Jessica asked

"I thought this would be useful for something."

"Well, fortunately this will be useful to know what we will fight." Xin said as Ryan gave her the horn

"Why do you use a hood? There is some reason why you don't want us to see your face?" Christine asked curiously.

"I am..." Xin started to talk uncertain. "Insecure about my appearance, and don't try to talk about accepting my appearance." the others looked at each other suspiciously about her answer.

"Okay, so now can we leave?" Jessica asked

"Yes, you can but I want you to come back so I can train you" As Xin said the others left the temple. When she found herself alone, she removed the hood revealing that she was a young red haired asian girl. The left side of her face was entirely burned. "They wouldn't trust me if they knew the truth." she said to herself.

In the Diyu, Xiezhi was facing Siwang. She stretched out his hand toward him, at least the maximum she could, then a green flux started leaving from all his body and go to Siwang. "You failed me, and you know what I do with those who fail with me."

"Please, forgive me. I can go back and I promise you that I will defeat the rangers." He begged

"Why would I give you another chance?" she said as her hand started shine

"Please, I will not fail again!" He begged again, this time with everything he had.

"Spare him!" Said a voice in the shadows

"Why would I do that?"

"Because he can be the perfect test subject to your two new spells." The voice in the shadows said
