Over the next few years following that fateful day, Morgana and her children became permanent fixtures around the castle, and Emmeryn watched the Plegian twins grow right next to her beloved baby brother.

The young children became fast friends, and as they learned to walk and talk, the three of them quickly became inseparable.

Time passed, and Emmeryn's mother became pregnant once again. However, things were different compared to when she was pregnant with Chrom. Emmeryn could only watch in dismay as her mother's health declined as the pregnancy progressed.

At the end of the nine months, Emmeryn had a new baby sister, Lissa, but her mother would not last much longer.

Only a few weeks later, the much-beloved queen of Ylisse passed due to her failing health, and the Halidom went into mourning. Emmeryn held Chrom and Lissa in her arms that night, hiding in her room as their father tore through the castle in a grief-stricken rage, trying to shield her siblings and the other young children of the court from the rampage. She was lucky to have both Frederick and Phila with her. Though they were young like her, they were already considered prodigies in their Knight training. Together, the three of them were able to keep the younger children calm despite the angry noises echoing outside the door and down the hallways.

More time passed, and Emmeryn watched as her father's mental state deteriorated. Over the past couple of years, since the arrival of Lady Morgana, they had begun drafting plans in order to protect the Halidom from the threat of the Grimleal cult, who hated Ylisse simply for being the chosen land and people of the Divine Naga.

Through the Exalt's grief-ridden and deteriorating mind, he began to view all of Plegia as a threat, despite the mostly peaceful relations between the two countries. Exalt Nero began to insist upon more and more aggressive strategies until eventually he declared war on Plegia, and began a mad crusade to purge the country of the Grimleal through force. Morgana helped him to orchestrate the purge, both out of fear of losing her sanctuary, and perhaps to exact her own revenge on the cult that had wronged her and her children.

The war was short but brutal. So fierce was the mad Exalt's desire to rout the cult of the defile, so all-consuming, that nearly all of the Halidom's resources were diverted to the war effort. Men with no weapons or armour were conscripted, and crops were commandeered with fields left unattended as their farmers were sent off to war. The resulting famine sapped the resources of the small nation even further, yet still, the Exalt marched on, cutting a bloody path through Plegia, the sacred blade Falchion in hand, without much regard for the lives of the innocent civilians residing in the areas his armies tore through.

Originally, Morgana had stayed behind at the castle, drafting plans for the exalt while teaching her own children tactics and magic, despite the twins' desire to play with Chrom and the other children. To Emmeryn's understanding, it seemed as though Morgana wished for the Twins to still be of use to the Halidom, should the worst come to pass for herself, though Emmeryn knew she would never allow anything to happen to Robin and Reflet. The brother and sister had grown quite dear to her, and she thought of them as family, just as she did her own siblings.

Eventually, Morgana herself was called to the front to directly assist Nero, and Emmeryn wished for nothing more than all the hatred and fighting to stop. She feared that should things continue, both nations would soon collapse, unable to sustain themselves or their armies any longer.

Every day, these fears seemed closer and closer to coming true. Emmeryn did her best to hide the state of the Halidom from Chrom, the Twins, and their other friends, but the stress was beginning to grow. But then one day, a little more than a year after the start of the campaign in Plegia, it was over. Plegia's king and the Exalt had slain each other in battle, and Morgana had been declared missing in action. Both armies were soon called home, worn out and exhausted, to rebuild. Both nations breathed a sigh of relief. The war was over.

Emmeryn had just turned ten years old, and already she found herself on the Throne, unprepared and overwhelmed with the task that lay before her. All of a sudden, she became an orphan, along with many of the children in the castle who were friends with Chrom. All that returned from the battlefield was the Falchion, as well as that same oversized coat Morgana had been wearing when she first arrived in Ylisstol.

Emmeryn vowed to do everything in her power to never let Ylisse see another war like her fathers while she was on the throne.

She would create a world of peace.
