The grounds of Camp Campbell lit up as something broke through the atmosphere and collided with the lakeshore.

There was a sizable crater from the impact that was steadily filling with lake water.

"What The Hell Was That!?"

Max sat bolt upright in his cot, Neil across the way did not stir.

"Damn camp…"

Max slipped on his shoes and snatched up the flashlight near the coffee maker.

He ducked from the tent into the darkness of night, the flashlight illuminating a weak circle ahead of him.

"Back in the tent Max."

David was standing near the tents with an ax slung over one shoulder, a cigarette burned brightly in his mouth.

Max opened his mouth to argue, but something told him that tonight was not the night to trifle with David.

"Fine camp man…"

Max grumbled and went back inside his tent.

None of the other children had seen or heard the commotion.

Something jet black and low to the ground splashed out of the lake.

Quartermaster spotted whatever it was and grunted.

"Keep your head down sir."

He told Campbell, who was sitting in the driver's seat of his bright yellow Humvee, ready to leave at a moment's notice.

Tripwires strung throughout the grounds by David were tripped and the campgrounds were flooded with harsh light.

Nothing could hide in that much brightness.

The black "Thing" let out a shriek like a feral cat and darted for David, its slavering jaws open wide.

David waited till the last possible moment and brought the ax down on the creature's bulbous skull.

Green blood splattered, the creature went still, David frowned as the ax head started dissolving.

"Acid blood, neat."

More forms darted from the crater on the lakeshore.
