Heppy Halloween everyone, and welcome to something...quite a lot different from anything I've ever posted before.

To celebrate Halloween, and to give you all something dark and unsettling to read for the occasion, I had the idea to write my own version of the infamous Gumball creepypasta, The Grieving.

For any of you who somehow don't know what "The Grieving" is, waaaaaay back on July 30th, 2011 (just under three months after the show began airing) a person going by "GlobaLuna32" posted a creepypasta called The Grieving about a dark lost episode of the show with the same name that they watched one night.

The episode in question was extremely dark, way beyond the usual tone and content of the show, and featured extremely disturbing content. Darwin and Anais are brutally murdered, with Gumball being heavily implied to be the one behind it (due to having bloody clothes and a bloody knife). He then hangs himself and Nicole and Richard grieve over their dead children, hence the title of the episode.

This is of course just a brief summary of the story, and there's a lot more to it than that, so If you want to check out the full thing before reading my version the original post of the story by GlobaLuna32 is available to read here:

Over the years the story blew up in popularity, escaping the Gumball fandom and joining the likes of Squidward's Suicide, Dead Bart and as one of the most well-known lost episode creepypastas online. It became so popular in fact that years later during an episode in its fourth season the show actually acknowledged and joked about the creepypasta, even referencing it by name, during a scene in The Compilation.

And of course, as with all lost episode creepyastas, there are boatloads of fan "remakes" or "found copies" of the episode all across YouTube. Some are incredibly good and some...not so much, but by far the most popular and well-known remake is VibingLeaf's retake (which you can watch here: watch?v=OTNxM8Yyp8I).

Instead of just remaking the episode as it was described like most remakes, VibingLeaf's version completely reimagines the story and raises it to a whole new level. In this version, a creature known as a Wendigo kills Darwin and Anais (with us actually seeing Darwin's death this time) rather than Gumball, who somehow escapes and later kills himself out of guilt for failing to save them. We then see a little of the aftermath with Nicole and Richard grieving at the kid's graves.

I knew immediately that for my version I wanted to take inspiration and elements from both the original and retake in an attempt to make what is essentially a "definitive" version, using the retake and some of my own ideas to fill in the blanks of the original in order to tell a more complete and fulfilling story.

I also decided to do a little something extra for this story, in order to make it really special. Since this is supposed to be a lost episode of the show I thought it'd be fun to go ahead and edit together some titles and credits for it, to really get people in the mood and make it feel even more like an actual episode. And as cliché as it is I went with the VHS tape route as I felt it'd make it feel even more realistic and add a little backstory to the episode itself. How you actually got a hold of said VHS? I dunno, maybe you were dumpster diving near Cartoon Network's offices or found it at a yard sale or dump or something, Up to you really.

Both the titles and credits will be available to view at the start and end of the story if you wish to watch them. They are, however, completely optional and can be skipped if you can't or don't want to watch them.

Just before you go and get into the story however it should be needless to say that, with the nature and content of the episode, this story is NOT suitable for younger audiences, and reader discretion is advised. If you aren't comfortable reading scenes that include graphic violence, mutilation, heavy blood and gore, and/or depiction of suicide then I recommend you go and read something lighter instead.

Anyone still here? Yes? Then let's not delay any further.

Turn off your lights, close your blinds, grab a blanket and get ready to be creeped out, disgusted, upset, and unnerved because you're in for one hell of a Halloween treat! Without further ado here is...
