A/N: The training in Hell under Son Goku is finished, every D-rank in Konoha is complete. Since there are no sharks in Konoha's river, Son Goku had to play the role of the shark to motivate his trainees…

Mission to Wave, things go CRAZY I tell you!

Chapter 2

In the Hokage's office, team seven was standing in front of the village leader.

"Master Hokage, we want a C-rank mission," declared Son Goku. "We've completed all the D-ranks in Konoha for five months and I've trained Sakura and Sasuke into the ground so that they could fight somewhat decently and survive against a shinobi stronger than the idiot I killed before the team assignment. They're ready to face a real challenge and I won't be sitting here any longer without any new opponent to fight. The training of Gai Maito and Rock Lee didn't give the results I was expecting, they still can't use ki even though they've gotten better at using their chakra. I want a real fight where I can go all out."

"Alright, alright, boy. Are you certain of your teammates' readiness?" asked the old man behind his desk.

"They swim like fish and run like cheetahs. They hit like midges, but everyone in this place lacks physical strength without forbidden techniques. They can't get any better with the training I've given them under any reasonable time frame."

"Kakashi, how would you evaluate your team?" asked the Hokage.

"Sasuke would have a shot at winning the chûnin exams. Sakura would probably get to semi-finals if team Gai participates. And this is only because Gai's training is insane and he's been forcing his team to train even harder ever since he's tested Goku. Neji seems to be near a breakthrough from Gai's assessment thanks to the byakugan, he's the closest to figure out ki. If he manages to learn to use it, he'll probably see an exponential growth in the following months and will quickly become an A rank fighter. Naruto is already borderline S rank. He could kill an average jônin before they get a chance to attack with just taijutsu and his staff, with ninjutsu he could kill a jônin from as far as he can aim in one kamehameha. This team would be wasted on C-ranks. Considering that a team is only as strong as the weakest link, a B-rank seems like a reasonable attribution of resources."

"I see that you have been thinking about it for some time, glad you started to take your job seriously," commented the leader. "Then I suggest a shady C-rank that seems to have way more under the belt than the parameters of the mission indicate at face value."

"What kind of shady? The Kannabi bridge kind or the we suspect there is a boss who went through shinobi academy?" asked the masked man.

"Rather the second one, but I would not be surprised if it were more dangerous than I expect it to be. I was going to assign to team ten, but in case things go South, I think your team is much more ready to face adversity."

"What do you think…?" Kakashi started, only to be interrupted by his team.

"Let's go!" exclaimed Goku, his trainees nodding vigorously. "Then when you see the results of my training, you'll make us chûnin and I'll race to jônin so that I can get S rank missions!"

"Hey! Don't leave us behind!" complained Sakura.

"Sakura, Goku's skills are wasted on B rank missions. Konoha is a shinobi village and needs strong shinobi to carry out hard missions in order to earn money and contracts that lead to more wealth for the whole village," explained Kakashi. "I was made a jônin before I got anywhere close to his abilities during the Third Great War. I led a B-rank mission that turned into an A-rank and was expected to carry it out because it was war. Nowadays it's safer, but powerful individuals like Goku don't belong to the genin or chûnin ranks. Just like Gai is a jônin, Goku will soon become one. He just needs to fill his record with missions of the appropriate ranks to be eligible, and his role in team seven allowed you two to bloom like you couldn't have under my training.

"Once you all pass the chûnin exams, you'll be sent with different shinobi and kunoichi to get used to the standard shinobi line of work. Goku will quickly climb the ranks due to the need to send him on higher ranked missions."

"I…I see…so we'll be drifting apart…"

"Not if we step up our game," stated Sasuke. "If we train even harder, we'll catch up eventually. I need to get strong fast, it's already part of my goals to be able to complete S-rank missions."

"Catch up to me? Challenge accepted!" Goku lightly fist bumped Sasuke, sending him through the wall. "Oops, sorry!"

The village leader dismissed the genin.

"Kakashi, what about your own training? Have you made a breakthrough?" asked the Hokage.

"I'm back to my physical peak, I need more field missions to improve my capabilities with the ninjutsu I've copied. If I don't see anyone use them at a high level, I can only be so good with them."

"Maybe in a few years you will deserve your bingo book entry, Copycat Kakashi," commented the old man on a stingy tone.

Kakashi scratched his chin in mock thought.

"Maybe. But I don't have any interest in mastering all the jutsu I've copied, I'd rather use twenty to excellence than a hundred like a beginner."

"I never had a sharingan, yet I have learned all the jutsu in Konoha and found a counter to them, Kakashi. Since my son has always rejected my teachings, you can always ask me if you want a master to reach new heights. At your age, the Sannin were all a bit more powerful than you and they kept improving far beyond that level. You are my best hope in your generation, Kakashi. Gai is strong but he is a weirdo with too little interest in anything but taijutsu. Asuma is a slacker and doesn't want to succeed me. Kurenai just got promoted to jônin and seems interested in settling in a few years. Anko will never be well received in Konoha and I fear that she could turn my teachings against my people if she had the power to do so. The only one available is you."

"Then you should stay alive long enough to pass down your knowledge to my genin's generation, Lord Hokage. Or force Master Jiraiya to take your place, but he really doesn't want the responsibilities…"

"What a shame… Why did the 4th have to play hero? Now I am an old man with no successor in sight, forced to hold an office he is too old to occupy any longer…"

"Your grandson will soon become a shinobi, why not teach him personally?" asked Kakashi.

"He is just a child, I do not want to put this weight on his tiny shoulders. We have seen what excessive expectations for a child tend to lead to. Not everyone is Minato…"

"Well, maybe you should find a worthy successor during the chûnin exams? I bet one of the candidates will keep your attention."

"Let us hope it happens this time around. For Konoha…"

"Now I would like to see the mission scroll, please, Lord Hokage."

"Oh! You are right, Kakashi, I was digressing. Forgive an old man for deviating from the topic. Here it is, a protection detail and assassination mission in the Land of Wave under the name of Tsunami, a mother in her early thirties whose father is working on a bridge to connect the island to the continent and whose husband was publicly tortured and killed in front of her entire village as a dissuasion to the rest from trying to be heroes."

"An assassination for their first mission? Isn't it a bit too much?" asked Kakashi.

"Considering the kind of human reject the target is, they should have an easy time finding the will to execute him. If you have the opportunity to ask him gently about his fortune accommodations, Konoha would be grateful and overlook any difference between the contract and the actual risk of the mission."

"Very well. See you soon, Lord Hokage. This mission will probably not last as long as you expect."

"I hope so, Kakashi. Guide them well in their first real mission. We do not want a repeat of Itachi Uchiha, after all…"

"Of course."

Team seven left the next morning at 10 o'clock. Their client was a brown haired civilian woman with fire in her eyes. She led the way at a fast pace for a normal person. They decided on night shifts to make sure nothing would happen.

They arrived at the port town where they embarked clandestinely on a small boat silently steered by a fisher outside of the sea road. This was clearly secret operation and these people were in danger if they got caught.

They landed on Nami Island at night in a small cove surrounded by rocks, far from anyone's sight. They camped nearby without making a fire to avoid detection. The night shift required more focus than usual. The next day, they put on worn clothes from the locals, made themselves look as poor and dirty as the population of Nami. Surprisingly, Son Goku had no trouble looking poor and dirty, although he looked more like a wild boy than the son of a broke fisherman.

They joined Miss Tsunami's father in the build work as a cover for their real goals. Kakashi had to tell them to slow down, his genin were way too effective for civilians. Goku had used this opportunity to raise their weights to the forty kilograms version, which indeed slowed Sasuke and Sakura down to a civilian pace. He seemed at ease himself and Kakashi didn't know how much weight the boy was currently putting on his own body. The boy was able to plant nails with his fingers, to lift extreme loads as if they were nothing, reminding him of Minato's sage mode, which sadly didn't last more than two seconds. Son Goku was displaying this level of strength in his daily life while wearing at least twenty kilograms on each arm guard. If he hadn't known about the Kyûbi sealed inside the boy, he'd have thought he had a kekkei genkai. Apparently he used a different source of power, probably something only someone who had grown from a newborn with the Kyûbi inside them could have. Of course, Goku wasn't displaying this strength in public on Nami Island, it would defeat the purpose of their disguise.

After two nights of spying, team seven concluded that there were shinobi guarding the target. They elaborated a plan to avoid them, another one to drug them and Goku was obsessed with fighting them. This boy was a real fighting maniac and he'd been starved of a real fight for a long time. Kakashi sighed, guessing that whatever they did, this mission would end up with a fight.

The workers caused a ruckus on the bridge, a good diversion to draw the target's attention and to draw him out of his safe place. Gatô, the shipping magnate, was a small man and a tyrant. He showed respect for no one and asked to be respected unilaterally by everyone. He groped Tsunami's butt on the way to the bridge as she was bringing food for lunch. She grabbed his hand and twisted his wrist, but one of his henchmen grabbed her forearm in a strong hold and slapped her with a backhand, causing her to fall to the ground.

Of course, team seven was unable to let it go in order to study the henchmen looking for shinobi. Sakura rushed towards the aggressor, forgetting about the forty kilograms weighing her down. She was moving at near genin speed, but she was tired between physical labor and spying at night and the man saw her coming, unsheathing his katana and pointing it at her before she could reach him.

Sasuke had been removing his weight in the meantime, but they were well clipped in order not to fall during effort.

Goku simply vanished and reappeared, his foot in place of the aggressor's face while the man crashed twenty meters away, living a blood smear on the ground. As the others tried to get out of their stupor, Sasuke appeared among them, his weights removed, kicking them all away hard enough to cave their bodies in. He realized the strength he had just displayed, his eyes wide.

"Zabuza! Help!" screamed Gatô as he found his voice.

'Oh, crap,' thought Kakashi as a man with a bandaged lower face appeared with a giant cleaver at the magnate's side.

Two ninjas from the bingo appeared in front of them quickly after Zabuza's arrival. A dense mist started to rise from the water under the bit of bridge already built. A geyser of sea water rose from the extremity of the bridge, a masked ninja at the top. The fight began.

X

Goku left the two guys with gauntlets to Sasuke and Sakura. They were clearly subordinates. Kakashi was closer to the water riding masked shinobi, so it was the obvious choice for him. Which left Goku against the boss, Zabuza. They took some distance from the others, the man frustrated to miss on fighting Kakashi.

"Why are you disappointed? Are you so eager to fight Kakashi?" asked Son Goku.

"More than I am to fight a brat barely out of his mother's skirt. Kakashi is known all over the elemental nations. The ninja who copied a thousand jutsu. Jônin at thirteen, war hero of the Third Shinobi War. Of course I want to fight him! Instead all I get is a genin I can't even go all out against."

"I haven't had a real fight in five months and four days, you better give your all into this from the beginning. I'm a bit starving for a good fight and I'm also starving for a good meal, your luck since I'm stronger with a full stomach than when my belly growls."

Said belly indeed growled like a lion. Zabuza laughed like a maniac before glaring at Goku.

"Do you have a power based on glaring at someone?" asked the boy. "Am I supposed to feel something?"

"What? Don't you feel my killing intent?" asked Zabuza, incredulous.

"Nope, nothing. I don't know what you're talking about but your technique doesn't work on me. Try something else, I'm getting bored already."

A dense mist covered their fighting area, but Goku could still smell enough to tell when the man was nearby. He grabbed Zabuza's sword on the first swing and lifted the man at arm's length before swinging the sword down, handle first. He saw the weapon's wielder being projected through the mist before it reformed.

"You're much stronger than I expected, brat… Whatever, I can just kill you from a distance if you're too much to handle in close quarters, hahahahaha!"

Kunai came at him from behind, then from the right, then from the left, from the front, from the back. He caught them all.

"Let's play guess n'throw…" said Goku, smirking. "You're…here!"

He threw three kunai to his left, getting a pained grunt from the mist.

"One point! Now you're…there!"

He threw three more kunai.

"What the fuck, brat?! How can you find me in this mist?!"

"You smell like someone who had a shower this morning, and now you smell of blood."

"What kinda nose is that? Are you an Inuzuka? Did the Hatake have a hidden child at thirteen?"

"Just grew up in the wild, you pick up these things eventually."

The mist cleared.

"Okay, this isn't worth what Gatô paid me for. I'm done here."

"Huh? But my fight? Hey! Come back here, evil guy! I want a fight!"

"Nope, I've nearly died once overestimating my chances, I won't tempt the Shinigami a second time. Not for half a million ryô."

Goku kicked the dirt, causing a geyser.

"Can't find a damn worthy opponent in this world, what's wrong with shinobi? Is Gai the only strong man in the world? Why don't Master Kage fight more often? I want a fight! I'm going to go crazy without someone to fight!"

X

Kakashi was going to kill his opponent when he heard the Demon of the Mist.

"Retreat! Haku, Gôzu, Meizu! We're leaving! These guys are beyond our pay grade! Gatô, gimme the other half of the pay!"

"You didn't complete your contract! I won't give you shit, human trash!" yelled the small man.

Sasuke threw a kunai to his throat, killing him on the spot. Tsunami came close to the corpse and kicked it a few times, and a last time for the trouble.

"Stress relief," she said when the workers looked at her in fear.

Son Goku came back, walking like a zombie.

"I want a fight…give me a fight…no one worth fighting in this damn world…I'm gonna go crazy if I can't fight for real soon…"

Kakashi felt a chill down his back and he saw his two other genin tremble in fear.

'I think the most dangerous thing we can encounter on a mission is Goku turning on us to smash someone… I hope he values his bonds enough not to crush us… This boy is definitely S-class material currently, and he's only thirteen and doesn't have much shinobi training… He's all brute force…'

When Tsunami called everyone for lunch break, Goku's mind found a new focus. It seemed like eating was the only thing that could pull Goku's mind from his fighting addiction…

'Troublesome," thought Kakashi.

"Mission report," ordered the Hokage a week later, after they finished the bridge, which Goku and his traumatized trainees helped build to get to the end of the mission faster.

"We encountered Kiri missing ninjas on the island, fought them for a bit. The Demon Brothers, who fought Sasuke and Sakura on equal footing despite the kids being tired from labor with forty kilograms of weights and building work, Haku, a fake Kiri hunter nin, and Zabuza, the Demon of the Mist."

The old man's eyes sparkled.

"How did it go?"

"Sakura didn't manage to keep her cool when one of Gatô's henchmen groped the client's bottom and rushed the aggressor without removing her weights. Her was close to genin speed with them, but there was enough distance for him to react and point his katana at her. Goku kicked him like an ant and Sasuke, who had thought of removing his weights before charging, took care of the other rônin like a champ.

"Gatô called Zabuza and he and his underlings came in a showy entrance, mist rising from the sea, the boss first, the twins in front of him right after and the fake hunter ninja from a geyser behind us. I took the hunter nin since I was the closest and he was close to an A-class shinobi, an ice kekkei genkai survivor. Sasuke and Sakura did well, avoided poisonous weapons and stalemated with their opponents. I had little trouble with mine, other than dodging volley after volley of senbon sent through ice mirrors and catching the real among the reflections. I was going to finish him when Zabuza called back his minions."

"Zabuza called back his minions"?

"He said that it was above their pay grade and Gatô refused to pay him the other half of the contract. Sasuke threw a kunai to the target's throat in exasperation before he could say anything more. We still managed to cut his dirty money between Zabuza's missing part, the islanders to rebuild their village and start their business with us and Konoha."

"I see. How much did you bring back?"

"Twenty million ryô. Gatô had a lot of cash due to his dirty money, it wasn't hard to share some. We also found his credit card and checkbook."

"Konoha graciously thanks team seven for your service. You will get a bonus for this mission."

"We also discovered that Son Goku really needs to climb the ranks fast and go on S rank missions. His unsatisfying fight with Zabuza left him in a quite worrying state. If he doesn't get to fight with a really powerful opponent soon, I fear he could start being violent to everyone around him. His fighting addiction is getting worse day by day. The only thing keeping him from obsessing over it is food and he eats for thirty shinobi. I fear Konoha has more to fear from keeping him entertained and filled than from outside threats, Lord Hokage."

"I understand. Then it seems like it is time for Jiraiya to make his appearance and for the chûnin exams to start. The registration forms are ready, please fill them to enter team seven. I will yell at my former genin for him to come as soon as possible without stopping at each women's bath on the way. Thank you for your report. Team seven, dismissed."

X

That night, Iruka, Kakashi, Sakura, Sasuke and Goku ate at Ichiraku ramen, where they emptied the restaurant's stocks of food – mostly Goku. Iruka was glad to learn that their first mission had ended well, everyone avoiding the scary details.

X

A/N: Sakura not being useless in Nami, Sasuke holding his own against a brother just like her, Kakashi defeating Haku without worrying injuries and Son Goku scaring the shit out of Zabuza who noped out of this. Yes, he recovered his meat cleaver, Goku doesn't use blades. His hands are the only blades he needs for now…

A bit of stingy dialogue between Kakashi and Hiruzen because I find it entertaining to see them send little jabs at each other. Hiruzen showing his exhaustion with the job and trying to push it onto Kakashi, but Hatake doesn't want spilled milk.

Jiraiya will eventually make his appearance. He's already taking jabs at his integrity before he is even introduced. Let's see how it goes with Goku's naivety, Sasuke's education and Sakura not being a doormat in front of even authority figures when they behave like human trash. Sexual harassment will not be treated as a gag in this story. There's a line between sexual humor and harassment that Japanese works tend to overlook far too often.
