Lieutenant Adventures Season 17 Finalé, Episode 17, 18 October 2023. Inferno's Redemption.

'In the heart of 1879 Washington, my companion, Drifter, and I continued our extraordinary journey since I acquired my remarkable monocle. We traversed time, unraveled mysteries, and aided those in need.

'Determined to fulfill our role as protectors of time, we resolved to venture into the outer Universe, mending fractures and safeguarding reality.

'"Inferno's Redemption," I whispered, knowing that our journey would shape destinies and forge a path of untold wonders. Together, Drifter and I embarked on this cosmic odyssey, driven by the promise of infinite possibilities, and the knowledge that the Universe awaited our arrival.

'Join us as we traverse the vastness of time and space, leaving our mark upon history, seeking redemption, and weaving tales that will echo through eternity. This is the tale of the Lieutenant and Drifter, explorers of the extraordinary, in search of adventure in the outer Universe.'

The Lieutenant and his steadfast companion, Drifter, had been living an eventful life in 1879 Washington since the Lieutenant obtained his wondrous monocle. Through their shared experiences, they had helped those in need and guarded the delicate threads of history in which they were living.

One day, the Lieutenant was standing in the front garden, staring up at the gradually-widening crack in the sky, staring into the Void, trying to work out, both, what it was and what was happening.

'Lieutenant?' called out Drifter, faintly, from the house, sounding like he was trying to find him.

'Out here!' called the Lieutenant.

Drifter came out the front of the house. 'Are you seriously out here trying to work that out again?' he asked, on seeing the Lieutenant.

'Yes, I am,' said the Lieutenant.

'Lieutenant, it's up there, it's not down here. It's not our problem!' exclaimed Drifter.

'Things up there being my problem is my speciality, Drifter,' said the Lieutenant, not taking his eyes off the crack.

The Lieutenant and Drifter were interrupted by a strange noise, extremely nearby, in the garden, in fact. For Drifter, it was an extremely strange noise.

'What's going on!' exclaimed the Lieutenant, looking around himself.

For the Lieutenant, though, it was an extremely familiar noise and, for the first time in his life, he understood the sense of delight and relief that it instilled in people who heard it. He spun around to see an orange telephone box materialising beside him. 'Relax, Drifter, it's OK,' said the Lieutenant, grinning, tears of joy in his eyes. When the telephone box had finished materialising, he strolled over to it, hands in his pockets. 'I think it's my TARDIS,' he said. 'It's you, isn't it?' he said to the TARDIS, just to confirm.

The TARDIS door flew open, welcoming him.

The Lieutenant turned around to face Drifter, happily. 'Drifter, I present, my TARDIS,' he said. 'Come on in,' he said, stepping into the TARDIS.

'There's not enough room in there for the two of us!' exclaimed Drifter.

'There is!' echoed the Lieutenant's voice from inside, come in!' he exclaimed.

Drifter stepped into the TARDIS and his jaw dropped.

The Lieutenant was also speechless. He loved his newly-regenerated TARDIS.

'How does this work?' asked Drifter, at a loss as to what was happening.

'Time and Relative Dimension in Space, TARDIS,' said the Lieutenant. 'It's dimensionally transcendental, which allows the inside to exist in a different dimension to the outside, that is how this inside fits inside the small outside,' he explained.

'It's very cool, I love it,' said Drifter.

'Yeah, I love it myself, I may hotwire it a little bit but I do love it, I have to say, feels very classical. It will do,' said the Lieutenant. 'This is my ship, my real home, and our gateway to adventure.'

As they explored the TARDIS, the Lieutenant's gaze fell upon a chronicle, tucked away in the ship's library. It detailed the recent events surrounding the Flux—a cataclysmic upheaval that had shaken the Universe to its core. 'What's that?' he muttered to himself, reaching for it and reading through it briefly. It appeared to document a mass extinction event he didn't even know had been going on. 'I've just discovered, Drifter, what those cracks in the sky are, what it's called,' he said.

'What's that?' asked Drifter.

'The Flux... It has ended,' the Lieutenant murmured, his voice tinged with both relief and concern. 'But its toll on the fabric of reality... the damage is immeasurable. It's concerning that I never came across that at the time,' he said.

Drifter's eyes filled with worry. 'What does this mean for us, Lieutenant?' he asked.

'It means,' the Lieutenant replied with determination, 'that our mission has just begun. The Universe needs us now more than ever. We must journey into the outer reaches, mending the fractures and safeguarding time itself.' he said.

Returning to the console room, the Lieutenant set the coordinates for deep space. 'Ooh, I have a Master Switch on this console!' he exclaimed. 'For ages until now, it's been a Master Lever,' he said. He activated the door control, closing the TARDIS door. He placed a finger on the Master Switch and turned to face Drifter. 'I love this bit, are you ready?' he asked, excitedly.

Drifter wasn't sure what to expect. 'Go for it,' he said.

The Lieutenant flicked the Master Switch.

The TARDIS dematerialised.

'There's that sound again!' exclaimed Drifter.

'Get used to this sound, Drifter, that's the sound of the engines working!' exclaimed the Lieutenant.

'Inferno's Redemption,' the Lieutenant whispered, his eyes gleaming with the fires of determination. 'We shall face the challenges ahead, secure in the knowledge that we are guardians of time, agents of redemption, and seekers of infinite adventure,' he said.

And so, the Lieutenant and Drifter embarked on their cosmic odyssey, leaving behind the tranquility of 1879 Washington, venturing into the outer Universe to face whatever trials and wonders awaited them. Together, they embraced the uncharted territories, their spirits alight with the promise of infinite possibilities and the power to shape the course of destiny.
