Helena did in fact end up surviving the night and Carla came in mid-morning to take the breathing tube out now that she had been through the worst of it all. Now it was a waiting game for her to wake up and Carla wasn't going to move her out of the ICU until Helena was awake and coherent. She kept asking Aliya and Trevor about what happened, and the kids still stuck to their story. Neither kid wanted to leave the hospital, not wanting to leave until Helena woke up. Carla and Leon were alright with them staying since the day after the incident had been the last day of school and they weren't missing anything, so Carla set them up in her office, just wanting them to get some sleep and had even tried to get Leon to sleep without much success.

No one was able to get him to leave Helena's side as Chris, Jill, Claire, Jake, Sherry, and Hunnigan had all tried without success. He was going on almost thirty-six hours with no sleep at this point. Leon eventually allowed himself to nod off in a sitting up position on the couch in the corner of the room.

The first thing Helena was aware of when she woke up was a severe pain radiating through her stomach. She felt as though she had been hit by a bus and the next thing she was aware of was the persistent beeping from the machine to her left and that she was wearing a light blue hospital gown. Helena looked over to see that Leon was asleep sitting up on the couch at the other end of the room and Carla was now entering.

"Glad to see you're awake," Carla says softly with a smile as to not wake Leon.

"What happened?" She asks weakly, the last thing she remembered was confronting Natalia and then everything had gone black.

"You got shot. We didn't think you'd make it."

Helena looked at her, starting to remember bits and pieces. She especially remembered Aliya using her sweater to stop the bleeding.

"Where's Aliya?"

"She's safe. She and Trevor are sleeping in my office," Carla says, beginning to take Helena's vitals, "So government agents?" She adds, taking the blood pressure cuff off Helena's bicep.

"We were on a job when I got shot."

"So, it's true then?" Carla asks as she adjusted the bed so that Helena was in a more upright position.

"Yeah."

"So, your name isn't really Helena Johnson? And he isn't Leon Johnson?"

"No," she starts, shaking her head, "Helena Harper and Leon Kennedy. We can't tell you anything else without risking your safety. The only other thing I can tell you is that Aliya is part of that job."

"Alright," Carla says in defeat, figuring she'll have to accept that answer and she was grateful that someone was cluing her in finally, "my next question is: do I need to be concerned about Trevor's safety?"

Helena shook her head, "no, this is the only time he has ever gotten involved. If his life was in danger in any way, we would have kept the two of them apart."

Carla accepted that answer as she finished checking Helena's vitals, pleased that they were nice and strong this time around, briefly telling her that she'll move her out of the ICU shortly and leaving the room to make rounds with other patients.

Helena looked over at Leon to see that he was still asleep and all she wanted was to be as close as possible to him. Helena threw the covers off her and painfully swung both legs over the edge of the bed.

"Okay Helena, you've got this." She says to herself, holding her stomach as she got up and groaned at the pain; but she was determined. Helena hobbled over to the couch and slowly sat down next to Leon, reaching over with one hand to brush a strand of hair out of his face and used her hand with the IV in it to hold his hand.

Leon stirred as he felt Helena's hand holding his own and groggily woke up. He didn't notice Helena next to him right away and instead noticed her empty hospital bed before he was aware of her sitting right next to him.

"When did you wake up?"

"Only a little bit ago. I had some words with Carla, and she knows about Aliya and what we do. I'm sorry."

Leon scoffed, "I don't care about that. I'm just glad that you're okay," he says as he hugged her but quickly let go as she groaned in pain, "come on let's get you back to bed," he adds, picking her up so that it would be less movement on her part and gently put her back in the hospital.

The two stared at each other for a moment until Leon leaned over and hugged her again, kissing her head.

"God, I thought I was going to lose you."

Helena chuckled, "oh come on, it's going to take a lot more than that to kill me."

Leon chuckled, "do you need anything? Like an extra blanket or anything to drink?"

"No, I'm fine. Thanks though."

Leon kissed her on the lips this time and pulled back away just as Aliya barged in.

"Helena!" She says excitedly, relieved that she was finally awake and not on her death bed anymore.

"Hey easy there, kiddo," Leon says with a laugh as Aliya hugged Helena tightly and Trevor awkwardly stood in the doorway.

"We're uh, glad you're okay," Trevor says, putting his hands in is pockets, "how're you feeling?"

"Sore but I'll be alright," she says as Sherry and Jake moseyed on in with Claire, Sherry holding some flowers, "Sherry, come on." she adds, rolling her eyes at the flowers. She had never liked receiving gifts, especially when she was sick. Gifts while sick or hurt just felt like pity gifts to her.

"What? You can't show up to visit someone in the hospital empty handed." Sherry says, putting the flowers on the nightstand.

"Well thank you, everyone."

Sherry put a hand on her shoulder, giving a gentle squeeze, "Hunnigan got held up and is going to try and stop by later. Chris and Jill had to go home to Elizabeth."

"That's fine about Chris and Jill and tell Hunnigan if she can't stop by there's no hard feelings. She's a busy woman anyway. I do appreciate that you all stayed as long as you did."

"Well duh. None of us were going to leave until we knew that you were okay." Claire says, sitting on the edge of the bed.

"I'm just here because Sherry wanted me to be."

"Jake!" Sherry snaps, "he's joking."

"Oh Jake, you're so pleasant to be around."

"It's part of my charm, what can I say?" He says as Sherry slapped his arm and gave him a look.

Helena chuckled and then groaned as pain shot through her stomach and Leon looked at her worriedly.

"Leon, she's fine. She just got shot, she's going to be in pain for a while." Claire says as Carla came back in, a look of stress on her features as she saw how many people were now in the room.

"Alright, I'm going to ask anyone who isn't Leon to please leave," she starts, "and you need to go home too," she adds, looking at Trevor with her mom look.

"You should go back too, Aliya." Leon says, being met with Aliya aggressively shaking her head 'no' and clinging to Helena.

"I can arrange for a cot to be brought in if she really doesn't want to leave." Carla says, giving a warm smile to Aliya.

"Yeah, that would be great, thanks."

"And we can bring Trevor home for you if that's alright," Sherry says, putting a hand on Trevor's shoulder and Carla nodded and thanked her.

Helena was grateful that Carla kicked everyone out of the room because she was overwhelmed with all the people in her already tiny room and Carla came over to put more pain meds through her IV. Aliya left the room to give the three grownups privacy.

"Trevor's a good kid, you know."

"Oh, believe me, Helena, I know."

"And we know that you're still grieving your husband, but Trevor is grieving his father and he told us that it hurts that you're working more."

Carla listened but didn't say anything. She knew that Helena was right and that it wasn't fair to Trevor that she had been picking up extra shifts during this difficult time. The doctor also felt hurt that her own son had told Helena and Leon about how much it was affecting him and not her.

"Well, um, I'm glad that he's able to confide in you," she says, looking away and avoiding eye contact as she left the room.

Helena hoped that she had gotten through to Carla, but she didn't know her well enough to be able to read her. In all honesty she had only seen and talked to Carla a handful of times since the two initially met. Aliya came back into the room and a nurse came in with a cot and a blanket and pillow for her and Leon went to sit back down on the couch. Helena gave him a look and moved over in bed, patting the spot next to her and Leon didn't have to be told twice as he carefully got in the bed and tried not to cause her any discomfort. Leon put an arm around her, kissing her forehead and looked over at Aliya, who had already made herself comfortable on the cot and had quickly fallen asleep.

Helena let her meds take over as she drifted off to sleep.
