Mist and Maelstroms: Chapter 24
With Naruto and Watasumi
"Raaaaggh" Naruto shouted as he swung the executioner's blade; Naruto sliced 3 of the curse mark test subjects in half. Naruto was slashing in a frenzy as the test subjects swarmed him and his teammates; so far, he killed 5 or so but it was getting more difficult.
The curse marks made the enemy more durable, not to mention that their powers very from super strength to increased speed; as Naruto brought up his sword to block a hammer like appendage of another test subject from crushing his head. Naruto kicked him away and looked to his side to see Watasumi.
Watasumi ducked under the claw of a test subject and came up with her kama's; Watsumi sliced off its arm from the elbow down. Watasumi then jumped-up spinning in the air; Watasumi decapitated the enemy with his head falling to the ground. When Watasumi landed she was kicked in the stomach and sent rolling across the ground; the enemy who kicked her charged at her to kill her.
However, he was stopped when Naruto threw several kunai hitting him in the chest and head; Naruto proceeded to decapitate him killing him.
"You ok" Naruto said to Watasumi who nodded.
"Yeah, I'm fine" Watasumi said hopping up and getting into a defensive stance "how many are there; there's no end to them" she said.
"Kill now; talk later" Naruto said as he and Watasumi went back into battle.
With Kakashi and Itachi
"Raikiri" Kakashi shouted as he plunged the jutsu into an enemy's chest up to his elbow; Kakashi kicked him off and jumped over another one who tried to attack him from behind. As Kakashi was above the enemy he took out a kunai and stabbed it through the crown of his head; the enemy died and Kakashi landed "this is annoying" he said as he took out another kunai.
Itachi used his ninjato to hack and slash at the curse mark test subjects trying to hold them off 'this is taking too much time' he thought. Itachi slashed down into a test subjects' shoulder only for his sword to get stuck; Itachi tried to pull it out but the test subject grabbed onto his sword not willing to let Itachi retrieve his weapon.
Itachi kicked the enemy away into another group of test subjects and went through hand signs 'Fire Style: Fireball jutsu' Itachi launched a massive fireball towards the group of test subjects. The fireball hit the enemies setting them alight; Itachi seeing more enemies rushing towards him took out a tanto ready to defend himself.
With Karin and Kurama
"Hahahaha" Kurama laughed as he sliced through another enemy with his sword "come at me you mindless pawns" Kurama shouted as he rushed into another group of test subjects.
'God damnit Kurama' Karin thought as she sent her chakra chains through another test subject's stomach; Karin proceeded to rip the enemy in half killing him 'can you please take battles seriously; this isn't as easy for us as it is for you' she thought.
Karin began swinging her chakra chains around slicing and slashing more enemies as they swarmed around her.
Kurama cut another enemy in half before going through hand signs 'Majestic fox firestorm' Kurama thought; Kurama slammed his hands onto the ground as a wave of golden fire spread around him burning the ground in a 20-foot-wide circumference and scorching any enemy that was within the range of the attack.
Kurama got back up wielding his sword as more enemies began to swarm him 'I haven't had this much fun in a long time' Kurama thought as he jumped back into the melee.
With Hinata, Shino and Tayuya
Hinata struck another test subject in the heart killing him instantly; Hinata then spun on her heel and faced another enemy coming from behind her. Thanks to her Byakugan she was able to see anyone coming in for a sneak attack; Hinata jabbed the enemy in the liver causing it to burst making him scream in pain.
Hinata moved up and struck again this time hitting the aorta causing it to burst and the enemy to cough up blood; Hinata finished her attack by hitting him in the throat crushing the wind pipe. The enemy fell to the ground dead; Hinata felt bad for killing these people as the did not do this of their own free will but she knew there was no other choice.
Hinata turned around to engage another enemy but he was stopped when he was swarmed by Shino's beetles "Keep up the pressure Hinata" Shino said as he controlled his insects "if we keep at this rate we will thin them out" he said and Hinata nodded.
"Right" Hinata said.
Shino did not turn around as an enemy came up from behind him; however he did not need to as a Doki controlled by Tayuya smashed him with its club.
"Damn it; me and Hinata are working our asses off and you get to stay stationary" Tayuya shouted as she ducked under an attack and hit the enemy in the head with her flute knocking him away.
"It's only logical" Shino said "you and Hinata keep me and my beetles safe; and I use my beetles to take out the enemy at long and medium range" he said as he sent his swarm in once more. The beetles swarmed a dozen test subject and, in a few seconds, they fell down to the ground as their chakra has been drained to a point that they died "so far I have eliminated 65 enemies compared to your 27 and Hinata's 15; so in conclusion I'm making a larger impact on the battle due to you and Hinata protecting me and my insects as I'm not a close range fighter" he said.
Tayuya got a tic mark "damn it how the fuck can I argue with you if you make a good point" she shouted as she began to play her flute once more to control her Doki 'useful asshole' she thought.
With Naruto and Watasumi
Naruto swung his sword once more slicing another enemy in half; he was caked in blood from head to toe. Naruto was breathing heavily as trying to cut through these test subjects was like cutting through stone; he knew that if his executioner blade didn't have the ability to repair itself that his sword would've been broken down to nothing a while ago.
'There's no end to these guys' Naruto thought as he panted; Naruto stuck his sword into the ground and began to go through hand signs 'Water style: Dwarf Shark bullets'. Naruto canteens burst open and water shot out of the containers towards a group of enemies; the water then turned into dozens of small sharks as they sped towards the enemy.
The small water sharks pierced through the first row of enemies leaving ping pong sized holes in their bodies as they passed through; they then went into the second row of enemies and pierced halfway through until they dispelled.
'Another dozen down' Naruto thought as he picked up his sword as more enemies approached.
Watasumi sliced into another enemy hitting him in the neck with her kama; however Watasumi was shocked when her kama broke from over use 'no' she thought as she jumped away. As she did another enemy ran towards her and she spun around going low and slicing off his legs; however when she did so her other kama broke.
The ground bound enemy tried to swipe at her but she jumped away and ran towards Naruto "Naruto my kama's are broken; I need a kunai" she shouted. Naruto turning to see her took out a kunai and threw it to her.
"Here" Naruto shouted as he threw it towards Watasumi; Watasumi caught it and got behind Naruto so they were facing back-to-back. The enemies were now surrounding Naruto and Watasumi who were both panting due to exhaustion "shit" Naruto panted "I don't know how much more I have in me; I feel like I'm fighting Kisame" Naruto said.
"We have to keep going" Watasumi said "use your- "Watasumi began until she was interrupted.
A large panther made out of black lightning cut through the enemies like nothing surprising both Naruto and Watasumi.
"What the hell" Naruto shouted in disbelief.
With Kakashi and Itachi
Kakashi and Itachi were both still fighting when suddenly from the side they way 2 blurs of white swathed in lightning begin to cut through the enemies. The 2 blurs landed next to them and spoke.
"Are you the Konoha ninja sent to rescue Yugito" said a dark-skinned girl with long spikey red hair.
"Yes we are; I'm Kakashi Hatake, who are you" Kakashi asked.
"We are Kumo ninja; I'm Karui" Karui said "this guy here is my teammate" she said.
"I'm Omoi" a dark-skinned boy sucking on a lollipop said "nice to meet you" Omoi said.
"Save the introductions for later" Itachi said "lets end this; we are nearly done" he said and the others nodded.
With Hinata, Tayuya and Shino
Hinata and Tayuya were still fighting a now only 8 or so enemies remained; as Tayuya was about to send her Doki after another group of 4 test subjects they were swiftly cut down by a lone ninja.
Samui landed in middle of the group with her tanto covered in lightning chakra; Samui spun around and slashed the throat of one of them making him spray blood. She quickly turned and kicked another in the face making his head snap back breaking his neck; the 2 remaining enemies rushed Samui but she was prepared.
Doing a back flip over them she spun around and used her tanto to decapitate them; as their heads fell to the ground she landed and looked over to a stunned Tayuya.
"Who the fuck are you" Tayuya shouted and Samui looked at her with a calm expression.
"I'm Samui; jonin of Kumo" Samui said "I'm also one of your reinforcements; sorry for the delay" she said.
Shino used his bugs to swarm the last of the enemies killing them; he then turned around and looked at Samui "no need to apologize" he said "we appreciate your assistance" he said and Samui nodded.
"Cool" Samui said "Now let's mop up" she said before pausing for a quick moment to look at Hinata who had a nervous look on her face.
Unknown to a lot of people Hinata had a fear of Kumo ninja stemming from the fear she had from almost being kidnapped; Samui walked forward and studied her.
"Huh" Samui said making Hinata flinch "we have similar hair styles… pretty cool" she said with a small smile. Hinata being caught off guard nodded.
"Umm t-thank you" Hinata said nervously and Samui backed away.
"Let's finish this" Samui said.
With Naruto and Watasumi
"Graaah" Naruto shouted as he slashed another enemy; he then spun around and raised the sword above his head and brought it down on another. Naruto sliced the other enemy in half from the head down making the 2 pieces fall to the sides; Naruto was panting and he heard a sound from behind him.
Naruto spun around ready to engage but stopped when he saw a dark-skinned man with white hair "stop please" the man said in a calm voice "I'm an ally; my name is Darui" Darui said. Naruto panting looked at him in confusion.
"You, you from Kumo" Naruto panted and Darui nodded.
"Yes, we are here to assist you" Darui said before looking around and seeing the ground soaked in blood "although from the looks of it you did the majority of the work" he said and Naruto nodded. "Looks like the battle is over" Darui said as he and Naruto looked around and saw that all the enemies were dead "let's regroup" he said.
Naruto fell to a knee panting from exhaustion and nodded "sounds good" Naruto said "I need some water" he said with a chuckle.
At Night: a few hours later
"Gah shit; be careful damnit" Tayuya shouted as Karui stitched an arm wound.
"Hey shut it" Karui snapped back "I didn't have to do this for you" she said as she pulled the needle through once more.
"Whatever" Tayuya huffed as Karui continued her work.
Naruto, his squad and the Kumo ninja were all sitting at a camp sitting around a fire; everyone was currently bandaging their wounds and doing a weapons count. Watasumi was sucking on a lollipop given to her from Omoi and examining a sword.
"Thanks for the sword, Mr. Omoi" Watasumi said with a smile "I promise I'll give it back when the mission is over" she said and Omoi waved it off.
"Nah keep it" Omoi said "I've got an extra and a dozen more back in Kumo; it's no big deal" he said with a smile.
"So what took you so long to get here" Itachi asked Darui who was eating a can of food.
"We were delayed due to bureaucratic red tape" Darui said "we were sent to assist you by the Raikage; when he got permission, we crossed the border and rushed here as soon as possible" he said.
"I'm glad you did" Kakashi said wrapping his sprained hand "if we fought any longer, we might've been overrun; so, thank you" Kakashi said and Darui nodded.
"So… Naruto is it" Samui said looking at Naruto who wore only a pair of black combat pants and a dark blue muscle shirt due to his other cloths being ruined by all the blood "are you the swordsman that Yugito said is in a relationship with the Mizukage Mei Terumi" she asked and Naruto nodded with a smile.
"Yeah, how did you know" Naruto asked.
"Yugito and Mei are in constant contact; they are 'pen pals'" Samui said "Yugito told me about what Mei writes about you; how you are growing stronger by the day and becoming a master swordsman" she said. Naruto blushed and rubbed the back of his head.
"Ok she's over overexaggerating" Naruto said modestly "I'm far from a master swordsman; but I'm making progress little by little" Naruto said. Kakashi, Itachi, Watasumi, Darui and Samui and smiled at his modesty.
"Modesty is something most swordsman lack you know" Darui said "how about this; after the mission, you and me spar and I can gauge your progress" Darui said to Naruto who was now wide eyed. "A Kumo master swordsman vs a 7-ninja swordsman; it'll be quite a battle to gauge your skills" he said with a smile.
"You're on Darui" Naruto said with excitement "a battle between 2 new friends sounds awesome" he said and Darui smiled.
"Ok everyone; lets rest up" Kakashi said "we still have a mission to complete" he said and everyone nodded.
"Yeah, you're right Kakashi sensei" Naruto said with a yawn "ok y'all goodnight" Naruto said as he and Watasumi got up and walked over to their sleeping bag. Naruto and Watasumi entered and Watasumi cuddled up next to Naruto "Night Watasumi" Naruto said giving her a goodnight kiss.
"Goodnight big brother" Watasumi said as she closed her eyes.
Both Naruto and Watasumi fell asleep and Karin chuckled "ok that is kind cute" Karin said and Kurama scoffed.
"Whatever" Kurama said and Karin slapped his shoulder.
"Jerk" Karin said playfully and Kurama chuckled.
"Love you to babe" Kurama said with a smirk behind his anbu mask.
The next day
Karin and Hinata were both leading the group as they ran through the woods; they have been running for over 4 hours trying to find the Akatsuki. Karin then felt a massive chakra signature up ahead.
"Hey I sense something" Karin said "it's a massive chakra signature but it's getting weaker" she said; Kurama reached out with his own chakra and felt it.
"I sense it; it's definitely Matatabi" Kurama said making Samui and Darui look at him with wide eyes.
'How did he know her name' Samui thought 'only, Yugito, me, Darui, Raikage and Bee know the 2 tails real name' she thought.
As the group rushed ahead, they saw a large mountain appear and they all stopped "I see 3 figures in there" Hinata said pointing at the mountain "looks like 2 are standing still while 1 in unconscious and… floating in the air" she said confused.
"Ok everyone; this is it" Kakashi said to the group "lets get in there and save Yugito" he said and they all nodded.
'Hold on a little longer Yugito' Naruto thought 'we're coming' he thought.
