The frogs were seen walking home, having been dropped off at shore by the marlin. "I've seen my life flash before my eyes." Rosemary let out as she had a hundred yard stare.
"Yeah, the first brush with death can stay with you for a bit." Sprig chuckled as he rubbed his once again sore back.
"At least we got out of there alive." Maddie said as she pulled out a bag of fish scales, "And the marlin gave me enough scales to last me till it's next visit."
Once the group got back to the Flour residence, the pollywogs went inside to hit the hay. Leaving only Maddie and Sprig, with the latter taking a deep breath. "You know, aside from the jaguar shark attack, I had a... lot of fun today." Sprig told Maddie.
The goth frog lightly blushed as she responded, "Me too." Her smile then slightly dropped when she saw Sprig's fists shake. "Is everything okay?"
Sprig groaned as he realized that she recognized his inner turmoil seeping out of him, "Just... really relieved that you're... still alive." He couldn't help the emotions that are running through his brain.
"Same." Maddie took Sprig's pink hand into her's, this made the boy somewhat calm.
Sprig took in a deep breath as she interlocked his fingers with hers, making them both sweat "Things between me and Ivy aren't... exactly going smoothly."
"I've sort of gathered that." Maddie replied.
"Yeah, and as much as I really wanna kiss you right now. I'm afraid it will come back to her and she'll end up kicking me in the face." Sprig admits, "So could we put a pin in... this?" He gestured to the two of them.
"That's probably for the best." Maddie looked down.
Sprig said screw it and gave Maddie a quick peck on the cheek, making her light blue skin go beet red. "Hope that suffices for now." Sprig then hops back to his family's farm house.
Maddie holds her cheek and smiles brightly before going inside, from their bedroom window Ginger looked on and squealed "EEEEEEE we did it!" She flipped into her bed, between Lavender and Rosemary's beds.
"What did we do?" Rosemary questions.
Lavender adds, "Yeah our potion plan failed."
"Girls, girls." Ginger pulls in her pollywog sisters, "It was never about the potion, our sister's got a second chance with the frog of her dreams. And he likes Maddie on his own, how could that be considered a failure?"
"So basically this shenanigan was a complete waste of our time?" Lavender snarked.
"You've become really cynical lately." Ginger observed.
"Being forced to face the prospect of facing one's mortality can change a person." Lavender grabbed a book titled 'Pollywog's Guide to The Dark & Brooding'.
After a few weeks, Sprig called Ivy to meet him outside the gates of Wartwood. Sprig tapped his fingers as he circled around the front gate, "Okay Sprig, you can do this. Just keep it sweet and short, or is it the other way around? Anyway you'll probably hear her cries of an ambush any-"
"Hey Sprig."
Sprig leaped before he saw Ivy appearing behind him. "Oh, Ivy. Glad you can make it." They shared a quick hug.
"Yeah, the tea shop has been pretty busy lately. Good thing I've got my weekly day off today." Ivy said. "So, what did you wanna tell me?" Ivy leaned towards Sprig.
"Well, you and I've been together for almost a couple years now and... while it's been a really fun, but there comes a time when things that used to be-"
"Are you stalling so you don't have to break up with me?" Ivy questioned. Sprig took a worried inhale of breath, "Eh, don't beat yourself up too hard. I've already done that, and you aren't the only frog here that knew the spark was dwindling."
"Really?"
"Yeah, tackling your lover is only fun for so long until he needed to go to physical therapy." Ivy said. "But these types of conversations aren't easy for me, and I was hopping you would call us off first."
"That why you've been extra rough with your ambushes?" Sprig guessed.
"A little bit." Ivy twiddled her thumbs.
The two frogs looked down as the awkwardness was starting to settle in, "We still on for our weekly explorations of the new continent?"
"Of course dummy, you can't be rid of me that easily." Ivy lightly punched Sprig's arm.
"That's a relief, so long as we're still cool."
"Always." Ivy and Sprig then did fist bump. "Anyway, Imma go work out. I'll call yah for our next expedition." Ivy and Sprig exchanged a quick hug before Ivy swung away.
News of Sprivy's break up quickly spread, the town is still pretty small. Some were surprised seeing as how clingy and overly affectionate they were during the War for Amphibia and their expeditions, others didn't really care.
And while Sprivy may not be romantic level, the two were still tremendous friends and training partners. Ivy having kept her promise of cutting back on the ambushes, which Sprig's spinal was very thankful for.
Ivy also suggested that with the stronger enemies they'll encounter the more they explore the new continent, they might need some extra hands. Particularly magical ones, Sprig was stunned that she made the call to bring Maddie along. With recommendations from the witch frog's sisters, she agreed if she can find some new ingredients for higher level spells.
(three weeks later)
Sprig was shown combing back his orange hair before he hops out of the bathroom in a well put together suit, his sister Polly looked up from their new television system sent straight from Newtopia. "I see someone's dolled up for their first date with the town witch." She teased, having known his closet crush on Maddie for a while.
"Well, I wanna look my best." Sprig replied, Maddie booked them a reservation at the new fancy horror themed steakhouse.
Knock, knock.
"Oh, that must be her." Sprig went over and opened up the front door.
"Hiiiiii Sprig~" spoke Maddie in the same creepy voice when they got engaged, the gothic frog holding another Sprig doll in a suit which she skewered with another wooden spike.
"Still unsettling." Sprig said before he pulled Maddie inside and twirled her into a dip, the frogs exchanged a flirty look before they heard Polly's chuckle which caused them to separate.
"Alright you lovebirds get going." Polly pushed them out, "And Mad make sure to have him back by 11."
"No promises." Maddie locked his arm with hers before they hopped away.
"Aren't they just the cutest?" Ivy popped up behind Polly and grabbed her from behind, only for the youngest Plantar to take her down with a headlock.
"You're taking their union surprisingly well." Polly stated before Ivy wrapped her legs around Polly's head.
"Eh, I've had suspicions Sprig harbored unresolved feelings for Maddie for awhile. At least it's for one of my friends." Ivy shrugged before Polly kipped out of the leg lock.
The two then got into brawl stance, "You're getting slow master." Polly quoted
"You're arrogance will be your downfall!" Ivy responded dramatically.
As the two started their weekly fight lessons, we cut to Sprig and Maddie walking down a firefly lit road. The air was cool and the night sky was illuminating, "This is really nice." Maddie said as she leaned her head against Sprig's shoulder.
"Yeah, it is." Sprig responded as he pulled her in closer. Just then overhead they spotted, "Look a Corpsemaker Moth." He pointed.
"Oh I've heard of them, what's that myth again?" Maddie asked as she fluttered her eyelashes at him.
Sprig chuckled as he looked away with a beat red face, "Oh, just that you're supposed to kiss upon seeing one less you want your crops cursed for seven years."
"Well we don't want that do we?" Maddie rhetorically asked before they stared into each other's eyes and leaned in till their frog lips connected under the moonlight.
From the bushes, three pairs of eyes watched on. Ginger and Rosemary high river stubs, Lavender sighed deadpanned. She now sported black eye liner and a black beanie with a skull on the front, "Love is gross, but at least Maddie is happy."
The credits rolled as Sprig and Maddie were shown on the hill near the Plantar home, the latter leaning against her boyfriend reading as she read the necronomicon she lent him. In the background Ivy and Polly were seen play fighting.
