Badgers and Fruitloops
Notes
I started this on a whim a while ago when I had a bit of time to myself in between work and karate training (We are training 5 days a week for the EP Tournament). 40% of it is typed out already so expect the first few updates to be fast and then to slow down after that. This is my first time ever attempting this pairing, but as a major Danny Phantom fan, I just couldn't resist.
Danny is 17 in this and as always I am simply letting the voices in my head control my fingers for a while, you know, the voices that sound like all your favorite movie characters trying to give you advice all at once?
Yeah, I am joking about that, but the characters do seem to like leading the story so let's see where this goes, shall we?
Summary
Vlad is acting strange and Danny is bored out of his mind…but maybe that is just his nemesis' plan? Death by Boredom? Warning: May contain mentions of intended torture from secret governments, not that Vlad lets them get away with it though.
Chapter 1
Danny froze as an icy breath traveled up his throat and he immediately moved to go ghost, but something stopped him as he heard a familiar voice ring out from the warehouse he'd been staking out, and instead of changing, he ducked down low between the boxes that littered the warehouse. Honestly, it should have been his first clue to the ghost that had been haunting the area, but except for Plasmius showing up every now and again, ghost activity had been extremely quiet lately so beggers couldn't be choosers, and frankly, HE WAS BORED OUT OF HIS MIND!"
However, the voice that answered the Box Ghost was not one that he expected to hear, "Now, like before, I want you to ship those off to the Carnivorous Canyon…"
Danny could hear Box Ghost's sigh from where he hid, "B-but why? They didn't even manage to do a-anything? You stopped them before they could even get close to Phantom."
Vlad Masters, also known as Vlad Plasmius, his arch-nemesis and the only other halfa that Danny knew, actually growled at the Box Ghost's words, "They got close enough and they deserve their fate for what they were planning."
Another growl seemed to leave the man and Danny could practically picture him circling the Box Ghost as he spoke, a threat clear in his voice, "You aren't going back on our deal, are you? It really would be a waste to have to…relocate…someone as useful as you…truly a shame."
Danny felt something in him bristle at the threat, but his confusion kept him where he was. He knew that Vlad would sense him the very moment he went ghost and a part of him almost wanted to pick a fight with the man to stave off his newly found yet ever-growing case of boredom, but something else seemed to be going on behind the scenes and he couldn't help but think that Vlad had something to do with the cause of Danny's newest bout of boredom.
Maybe the man was trying to make him think that everything was peaceful before he attacked him out of the blue while his guard was down. Danny frowned. It was something Plasmius would do, but then the man wouldn't have bothered to stage the random little skirmishes that seemed to happen every other week. He truly couldn't figure out what the man was planning.
The Box Ghost's voice rang out once more, a little quieter than before, "This is the 224th batch of ghosts that you've shipped off to the Canyon, a-and last week you roasted a ghost for merely glancing at a Phantom poster and you g-ghosted all the ghost hunters that even tried to set a toe into the town and destroyed that facility. I know we had a deal, but if you want to keep your plans hidden y-you need to stop going so overboard."
The Box Ghost clamped his hands over his mouth as soon as he said the last part and Danny half expected Plasmius to lose his temper as he usually did when challenged, but instead, the man let out a laugh that was loaded with so much anger and irritation that Danny could almost feel it searing his skin as it echoed throughout the warehouse, "Of course I killed them, even you've seen what went on in that facility of theirs and they were already on their way to capture Phantom. If I hadn't interfered, he'd be another subject in their labs to experiment on until I managed to get him out. True, I know he would have eventually escaped somehow even if I didn't, and physically healed, but the scars would always remain."
Danny smothered his surprised gasp with his hands as Plasmius' words echoed through his mind. He'd heard of the destruction of the facility and merely thought that a ghost had broken out. Hell, he'd even contemplated helping the hunters track down the ghost in question, but he hadn't seen them in weeks. His body gave an involuntary shudder, he didn't know what truly went on in those labs, and hadn't really cared at the beginning since he'd thought that all ghosts were evil, but from what Vlad's words implied…
No. He wouldn't simply believe the man's words. He needed to see the place for himself.
He slowly snuck out of the warehouse, trying to stick to the shadows until he was as far away as possible before going ghost. He made his way to the facility, only to come to a stop a few miles away when a sense of wrongness hit him square in the chest.
He glanced around him, but saw nothing and stubbornly pushed past the feeling to leave. It worried him that his ghost half seemed to want to flee the place, but he forced the feeling down and moved toward the facility.
He tried to phase through the walls, but something prevented that, so he entered through the giant hole in the ceiling instead. It looked like someone had dropped a bomb on the place and he shuddered as he remembered Vlad's words, 'Of course I killed them'.
He moved through the building but saw nothing damning until he noticed some stairs that led to the basement of the building. His ghost half actively fought against every inch as they got closer to it until it finally left him completely and Danny froze in fear as he was forcefully changed back into his human body.
For a moment he thought that he'd lost his powers, but he sighed in relief as he still felt Phantom in the corner of his mind. Maybe he should turn back? Surely something that scared even his ghost half was something he needed to avoid at all costs? His thoughts were interrupted as a shadow fell over him and he fearfully turned around, only to be met with…nothing?
He rubbed at the goosebumps that broke out all over his skin and warily glanced back at the staircase only to spot a faint green light coming from somewhere below it.
He started walking towards it almost in a trance…first straight through the door…and then down the winding staircase until it led to a corridor where something was lying in the first doorway that he could see, but before his foot left the bottom step, two arms suddenly appeared from behind him, simultaneously folding over to cover both his mouth and his eyes as he was tugged back into a solid chest.
A scream built up in the back of his throat, only to die out before it could even fully form when a warm breath brushed over his neck and a familiar voice whispered into his ear, "I thought I warned you against sneaking into places you shouldn't be, Little Badger."
Why hadn't his ghost sense alerted him to Vlad's appearance? He started struggling, only for his body to go mostly numb and fear coursed through him as he wondered when Vlad had sedated him and why.
His body moved to collapse, but the older halfa removed his hands from his eyes and mouth in favor of picking him up in a princess carry that had Danny's clouded mind cursing in anger, but Vlad didn't even look at him as he glanced towards the open door and sneered, "Figures that the bomb didn't destroy everything yet, I would have to remedy that."
He then looked down at Danny with a strange expression on his face, "Trust me, Little Badger, you do not want to see how truly depraved humans can be."
Danny couldn't even force himself to answer as, whatever Vlad had dosed him with, dragged him under little by little, but as Plasmius floated up the staircase and out through the hole, Danny's head fell to the side and his heart started hammering in his chest as he caught a glimpse of one of the rooms he'd missed when he'd spotted the staircase.
The room held many pictures of him both in his human and his ghost form taped up against a board and next to it, in big letters, was a list of written notes.
At first, he thought it was more information about him, but he felt bile rise up in his throat even in his drugged state as he realized it was a list of experiments that they'd intended to run on him. The biggest had been circled twice and said, 'Would the subject regrow a limb if detached in human or ghost form?'
The last thing he glimpsed of the room before they passed it was a bed with straps and his name written in gold on the door before they left the facility completely and a massive explosion rang out through the night air before he finally passed out.
