Class ended, and everyone filed onto the bus. Kitsuna popped some nausea medication and took a seat at the far back. She pulled on some headphones and gave a thumbs up to Takeda in the rearview mirror. Hinata sat beside her, and Tanaka on his other side. Tanaka offered Hinata some snacks after a while, giving up on the lost cause that was Kitsuna. The ginger looked over, a dark expression painted on his round face, and reached over Tanaka for the window. It was too late, though, and soon the redhead's stomach contents spilled into the lap of Mr. Buzzcut. The bus erupted then, with desperate pleas to stop. Kitsuna pulled something out of her bag and shoved it toward the two beside her, then spun around and ripped her window open. Takeda rolled to a swift stop in front of the Seijoh gym, and Daichi pulled Kitsuna off the bus in a crazed dash. Once everyone was outside, Tanaka changed pants and used the plastic bag he received to seal up the soiled pair.
Kitsuna's face was several shades paler, and she leaned against the metal siding of the bus while holding her stomach. Kiyoko ruffled through the girl's bag, producing another batch of nausea medication and a water bottle. With a weak thumbs up, they headed for the gym itself. They rounded the corner to find Tanaka and several others picking a fight with some of the Seijoh team. Kitsuna quickly recovered, and started wolfing down a packed breakfast.
"Dude. What's that about?," the two Seijoh boys were taken aback by the way she stuffed her face after Daichi apologized profusely and dragged Tanaka away.
"Apparently she skipped breakfast," Suga explained to Kiyoko. He had offered to cover that, or rather, his mom did. But Kitsuna asked if it could be packed up for later, instead.
"That's way better than convenience store breakfast," Kitsuna beamed. She wrapped up the bento box and tucked it away for now. The boys went to change, and Kitsuna followed Kiyoko to the court to help with setup. She had already changed before getting on the bus, into her tracksuit and volleyball jacket.
"Kitsuna! Get over here and warm up like the rest!," Daichi called out to her.
"Eh?," she stared at him blankly. Kiyoko took the water bottles from her hands and smiled at her.
"Come on!," Daichi called again. Kitsuna shed her jacket and went to warm up, tying her hair back again. She spun around in an in-place jog, stopping on the side to remove her earrings and sticking them into her jacket, along the pocket seams. Then she joined the others, quickly going through her stretches and helping serve for spike practice.
"Huh? The manager's helping them practice?," one of the Seijoh boys pointed at her, confused.
"Guess they don't have a ton of people," another guessed.
"Damn, they're tall though. And pretty good for just being a manager," another commented, before the coach whipped them back into shape. Warm up finished, and the teams lined up to greet each other.
As the match started, Hinata's nerves peaked and he made a ton of hilariously huge mistakes. At one point he even toppled over the referee. The match continued, with Hinata up to serve, and tension was palpable even in the stands. Kitsuna felt some eyes on her while she stood to the side with Suga and Tadashi. She fingered the holes in her ears where her earrings usually sat, eventually shooting a look toward the other team's members who stiffened and stared at the match again.
"Asahi used to get that a lot, too," Suga laughed.
"You do look kinda scary," Tadashi added. Kitsuna flicked his nose and turned her attention back to the match, her excitement building as things picked up. She nearly stopped breathing as Karasuno took the next set, and there was a break before they swapped sides again. Just as they were discussing things, a ton of girlish screams echoes through the gym. A new member of the opposing team, the captain apparently, entered and the girls in the stands lost it.
"Hey. I hate that guy. Who's he?," Tanaka's face twisted with resentment. Daichi scolded him, but then had to go for Kitsuna whose face was even worse.
"Gross," she muttered. She entered a staring match from across the net with the captain, earning a smack from Daichi when the huddle was nearly over. Things started rough, and it was a slow back and forth til the end. Kitsuna jumped when Suga shouted at Kageyama from the sidelines, then teased him about it when there were breaks in the action. Karasuno managed to win by the skin of their teeth, and Kitsuna was among the loudest of the team who cheered. That gave Suga some ammunition, which he made full use of on the way to the bus.
"Hey," someone called from the gate, and they turned around. It was the team captain for Seijoh, and he spouted off a ton of crap at Kageyama and Hinata. Kitsuna went to wrangle Tanaka with Suga, and the captain Oikawa switched gears.
"Oh! Wow, I thought you were a dude, which was weird. But you're actually kinda hot. Say, why not join a girl's team instead of hanging around those monkeys," Oikawa stepped forward, brushing her bangs with his fingers. Tanaka reared up, but Daichi put a hand on his shoulder.
"Shouldn't we step in?," Suga asked him.
"Nah. She's fine," he said deadpan.
"Huh?"
Just then, Kitsuna reared back and rammed her fist straight into the boy's solar plexus. He collapsed to the ground, and she reared back to kick him over. That's when Daichi intervened, pulling her off before she could do actual damage. Takeda panicked, and the others were stunned into a dead silence.
"Cringey bastards like you piss me off the most. Lemme at 'im, Daichi! C'mon! I wanna smash his face so those girls quit drooling over his sorry ass," Kitsuna struggled against Daichi, and Tanaka joined in to help wrangle her onto the bus.
"Wait. Are you into girls?," Tsukishima asked while the boys tried to push her up the steps of the bus. Kitsuna froze, and the other two nearly tumbled over.
"Huh," she held a hand to her chin and looked up, thinking. "I guess it doesn't really matter. If I like someone, I like 'em. Probably."
The boys all let out shrieks of shock, but Kitsuna just shrugged and climbed aboard. Whatever it was, Tsukishima had at least gotten her to chill out for now. They rushed onto the bus as more Seijoh guys came up to their captain, who was struggling to get back through the gate. They wanted to avoid dealing with anything because Kitsuna hurt their team member. Hinata headed for the back seat again, and Kitsuna grabbed her bag and moved to another seat. She sat down beside Tsukki, and Hinata's spirits faded away.
"I'm not gettin' barfed on," she said flatly, pulling her headphones on.
