Astral's POV:
Huh… My eyes drift to the young woman with pale aquamarine hair and gold eyes resting next to me on the bed. Wait just a second…
(Flash):
"Change out of your wedding dress first."
(Flash)
Oh… I must've fallen asleep. I glance at her sleeping figure. But why is she resting on the bed when there's a couch a few feet away?
She groans a bit rolling over to hug my hand. What the…?
"Hey," I shake her body gently as she stirs awake a bit. "Let go of my hand."
I try to pull my hand away from her grasp as a whine escapes her lips. Her leg wraps around my waist as my body stiffens. Aw come on seriously? I'll willing to bet if she wakes up and sees us like this, she'll kick me off the bed for sure.
"Star-" No… her name isn't Starlight. Also, it would get confusing referring her as Starlight when there's already Star. But…
"Wake up."
If this keeps up… I glance over at the clock then back at her peaceful sleeping figure. Her arm grip tightens around mine. But how should I get my arm out?
(Knock)(Knock)
"Master, are you awake yet?"
"What is it?"
The being next to me groans shifting closer to me as I lay there limply.
"There's a conference in ten minutes." He said after a few moment of silence. "Are you able to attend or shall I notify them of your cancellation?"
Hm… My eyes drift to the person next to me who is sporting a slight smile. Should I really wake her so I can attend a conference? She looks so peaceful.
However… if I don't attend then how will I… A thought clicks in my brain. "Waltari,"
"Yes?"
"You attend in my stead."
"W-What?"
"Considering my circumstances currently," I look at the being next to me then at the door. "I'm supposed to be with my partner. What do you think the masses will assume if I left The Princess alone after the wedding to attend a conference?"
Even though this is a political marriage, beings still expect me to put up an act. Alright then. I'll become the best 'husband' they will ever see.
A minute of silence passes between us as the clock ticks. "As usual, you are too kind. Do not worry, I'll write everything they say in the conference." Another beat of silence passes. "Master, enjoy your time with The Princess."
"You're dismissed."
Footsteps walk away as I let out a breath. Enjoy my time with The Princess? Hah… how can I do that when I don't love her romantically?
"Mhm…" A groan rings out beside me as she squeezes my arm causing me to flinch as sharp nails pierce my skin. Ow! "Help me… brother…"
My eyes blink as her face contorts into a fearful expression. She has a brother?
I gulp as she huddles closer to me. Her hot breath on my neck makes my body stiffen. How am I supposed to get out of this without her freaking out?
Astrana's POV:
(Flash):
A little girl's eyes widen as a sword was about to pierce a being with light blue hair.
"Watch out!"
(Flash)
My eyes snap open as I lurch forward. My head immediately explodes as it hits something hard. Ow! What the…!
"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!"
The being beside me opens one eye with a yawn. "What are you screaming about?"
What on earth is he doing here?!
I recoil covering myself in blankets as he rubs his forehead. Why is he here? Shouldn't he be on the couch? A gasp escapes my lips as I grab the pillow shoving it in front of me. Did he do something he wasn't supposed to?!
"You… you…" He's The Prince. I can't insult him. One wrong move and my head will get chopped off! "You… W-What happened yesterday?"
Hm… my clothes are proper and there are no evidence that he actually did anything improper…
He leans closer as I crawl backwards towards the wall. Why is he coming closer? "W-What are you doing?"
"You don't remember last night?" He tilts his head as my face pales.
Last night? What happened yesterday? Did we… no. Did he…
"You pervert!" I fling a hand at him as he dodges. "What did you do to me huh? Last night. What did you mean?!"
Ahhhhhh! I can't remember a single thing. Did we do such an act? No… the last thing I remember was that dream and falling asleep…
(Flash):
"As in alcohol?!" I exclaim in shock as he nods.
(Flash)
Could it be…
My eyes slowly widen as my heart races. My stomach drops as a horrendous thought emerges within the depths of my mind.
Could it be that I was so drunk that he…
"You…" Control your anger, Astrana. This isn't a normal guy. "You… indecent being!" I throw the pillow at him as my head collides with his once again. We both draw back with hisses as I glare at him. "How dare you take advantage of me while I was drunk?! And to think you were a gentleman." I shout as he glances towards the door then back at me. "You're just like any other man out there. Preying on harmless girl like me so you can-Mph!"
A hand slams on my mouth as I try to take his hand off. Don't want the whole palace to know huh? I'll show him!
"Quiet!"
(Knock)(Knock)
"Yes?" The guy with his hand on my mouth clear his throat glaring at me.
"Your Highnesses, I heard some yelling. Is everything alright?" A feminine voice asks us as I struggle within his grasps. Here's the chance! I'll let everyone know how indecent their Prince really is.
He chuckles gripping my shoulders firmly making me wince. "Everything's fine."
No! It's not! This man took advantage of me! It was sexual assault! Harassment! Rape!
"Mph!"
"I'm serious, be quiet!" A whisper rings through my ears as he holds me tighter.
Quiet my head! Everyone needs to know you're a phony little prince!
"The Princess just had a nightmare." The guy next to me clamps his hand on my mouth tighter as I try to bite it. Nightmare my butt! "I'm currently consoling her as we speak. Don't be alarmed if she starts to-Ow!"
He withdraws his hand as I see a bite mark on his palm. Finally! "That's not true! This little Prince took advantage of me while I was sleeping to satisfy-Ack!"
My head throbs as something hard hits it making my vision dark for as second. A force pins me down on the bed covering my mouth with both his hands. Seriously?! I was so close!
He chuckles awkwardly looking towards the door. "Don't concern yourself with her. She's suffering from the side effects of a nightmare and none of that nonsense is true."
A concerning hum radiates through the door. "That… makes… sense…"
You have got to be kidding me! Do these servants believe everything he says?!
"Yeah so please, don't be concerned with anything going on in this room. Better yet, if there is any yelling, just tell the others to look away and go on with their day."
A moment of silence fills the air as my body struggles against his. Does she really believe that? Argh! Who knows what he'll do to me next. Don't leave whoever you are!
"Alright. I'll take my leave now."
No!
"Mph!"
Don't go!
"You're dismissed."
I can hear footsteps walk away from the room as I look up at him letting out a sigh of relief. What should I do now? I'm at his mercy.
Gold and silver eyes stare at me with a neutral expression. "Must you scream like that?"
My head collides with his as he immediately takes his hand away from my mouth hissing in agony gripping his hand.
Ow! I got to stop doing that before I get a brain injury or something.
"Hey Princess," He hisses clutching his forehead with an annoyed look. "Are you an animal or something?"
My eyes widen at his words as he rubs his head gently increasing the distance between us. Why this little… "You're the animal!" I cross my arms around my chest protectively. "I can't believe you would do such a thing when I was asleep."
My stomach knots as my vision blurs. "And to think I saw you as a friend as well." How could he do such a thing? Was he using me all this time? What happened to that gentleman I looked up to a few days ago?
The guy in front of me blinks as moisture runs down my cheeks. "Are you… crying…?"
"Gee… what does it look like?!" I snap glaring at him as stares at me with a confused look. What's with that look? No. I shouldn't be worried about this currently. How am I supposed to live my life at this point? How am I supposed to face people when I got…
"This is all your fault!" I hit his shoulder repeatedly as tears flow even more. "What am I supposed to do now?"
Now I understand the saying 'all men are evil.' Men are all the same. Selfish, entitled jerks!
"My fault?!" He raises a brow as he hisses looking at his hand. "You're the one to headbutt me and bite my hand twice yet you say this is my fault?"
"It is so your fault!" I shout as I try to hit him but he blocks my arm. "I trusted you. You were my friend yet how could you take advantage of me like that?!"
"Take advantage of you?" He stares blankly at me as I sniffle. "What do you mean?"
Is he slow or is he just playing with me? "You won't even admit what you did?!"
"Did what?" He throws his arms up in frustration. "What exactly did I do? I'm so confused right now. You head butted and bit me for no apparent reason the started yelling and crying. If there's anyone who deserves an explanation, it's me." He mutters while looking at his hand with a grimace. "Gosh, what did I get myself into?"
A pit of anger simmers in my stomach as I clench my fist. Is he really going to make me say it?! Hah… what an arrogant and selfish animal he is.
"Well," His arms cross across his chest with a sigh rolling his eyes. "I'm waiting, Your Highness. Are you going to give me an explanation or-"
"You're going to make me say it huh?"
"Yes." His eyes narrow. "What did I do to get you so angry in the morning?"
"You're really going to make me say it?!"
"If you don't say it, how would I know?" He yells back as I grit my teeth. Calm down, Astrana. Must not blow a fuse at a prince.
"Are you normally this illogical? I mean seriously, I can sue you for assault for these injuries-"
"And I can sue you for sexual assault!"
Gold and silver eyes meet mine as I breathe heavily with a gulp. "You," I point a finger at him. "I trusted you. I really trusted you but you used my intoxication to your advantage. Tell me Astral, am I not allowed to get mad when you took the most important thing from me?!"
The guy in front of me hangs his jaw from his mouth with his eyes wide. All color drains from his face as my hand connects to his cheek.
(Slap)
"I don't have any family or friends here." I sniffle choking back my tears with a strangled cough. "You're the only one I know and I trusted you yet y-you…" Why would he do that? I thought I was his friend, was I not? Can you really be friends with The Prince?
The guy in front of me stays silent holding his cheek with disbelief. Wait… what am I doing? I blink the tears away looking upwards. He doesn't care about me. Why am I crying right now? I bet he's mocking me inside his head.
"I…" A whisper rings through the room. "What…?"
"What do you mean what?!" I throw my hands up as I rise from the bed. "Forget it. I'm better off leaving this room." At least this will give me a chance to clear my head.
"Didn't I say yesterday that I won't do anything out of line?"
"Then why were you on the bed?" My head turns to him with a glare. "Why were we laying so close and you were shirtless! How can you explain that?!"
A brief moment of silence passes between us as he slides his hand slowly down his face with a groan. "Did you really forget yesterday's events?"
"What do you-"
"I was so tired that I slept on the bed. I guess you slept on the bed as well because hey let's face it,"
He rolls his eyes as he eyes me up and down. I immediately cover my chest narrowing my eyes. "Eyes up here."
"A princess like you would never sleep on the couch."
"Are you insulting me right now?" I ask a bit irked as he scoffs. "I'll let you know that-"
"Don't interrupt me, Your Highness." His face defaults to a neutral expression. "We were laying so close because you just couldn't keep to your side of the bed."
"Are you saying I hugged you in my sleep?"
"That's exactly what I'm saying." A hand rubs his forehead with a flinch. "I was trying to get out of your hold for quite sometime now but couldn't."
I blink. Really? I mean…
(Flash):
Wow… He lays on the bed all sprawled out lazily taking off his black suit and dress shoes. Huh… who knew a prince can be so disheveled.
"Your Highness," I shake him a bit as he swats my hand away.
"Hey," I shake him even more. "I thought you said I would get the bed."
"Your Highness!" He groans rolling to his side.
Oh, come on! "Change out of your wedding dress first."
(Flash)
Oh… so that means… My face pales as my heart races faster. Nothing… happened?
"W-Well why were you shirtless? Surely you had an indecent motive when resting with a woman."
He raises his eyebrow with a nod. "Alright, I'll admit that it was my fault-"
"Hah! I was right! You're a selfish, entitled little prince!"
"I should've informed you I sleep with my shirt off. It's been a habit since a few years ago. If it's uncomfortable for you, I'll gladly adjust to your needs."
…
…
…
Hah?!
"So… n-nothing happened b-between us?" I squeak as he folds his arms.
"I swear, I did absolutely nothing and was totally respectful towards you the entire night."
Well, except for the one time he hugged me and called me his beloved… I'll keep that to myself though.
Wait a minute! I slapped The Prince! And called him a phony! Sweat drips from my forehead as I gulp. Why did I have to lose my temper huh? I hit him not once not twice but three times. My life is officially over!
My legs collapse as I kneel on my knees hanging my head. There's only one thing to do now. "Your Highness, please forgive me. I know I committed a great crime but would you please consider I'm still a young and ignorant woman that you would forgive me?" Who cares about pride. My life is in the line here.
He stays silent as I shut my eyes. Silence is not good. "I-I… uh..."
"Who do you think I am?" Footsteps approach me with a chuckle. "You head butted me, bit me, and slapped me yet you expect me to forgive you?"
When he puts it that way, even I wouldn't forgive myself.
"I…" My eyes drift back and forth as I put my head on the ground. "Please forgive me!"
"Why should I?"
Why should he? How should I…!
"Because I am your wife."
"Pardon?"
My gold eyes meet his with a smile. "Your Highness, whether you like it or not, we're married and I'm your wife. If you punish me the day after the wedding, what will the citizens think of you?"
His eyes narrow as my hands tremble. Was that the wrong thing to say?
"Tell me, what will they assume?"
I gulp. "T-They will assume you don't love your wife and-"
"This is an arranged marriage."
"E-Exactly," I let out a breath as he looks at me expectantly. "We need to put on an act. If you punish me the day after the wedding, i-it could affect your reputation a-and will impact Their Majesties as well."
The guy in front of me walks around my body with a piercing stare. Stop it with that gaze! Does he want me to die of a heart attack? He places a hand under his chin. "How brave of you to drag my parents into this."
Can't go back now.
"I-I just don't want you or your parents to obtain a bad reputation because of me that's all."
…
…
…
The air around me becomes suffocating as he crouches to my level. A finger tilts my chin up as we lock eyes. This is it. I'm dead. I knew I shouldn't have mentioned his parents!
"Hm," A smirk crosses his lips as he leans forward. My breathing stops as I can feel his hot breath against my ear. "Not bad for a princess."
He leans back as I let out a breath I was holding in. Breathe! I have to breathe!
"I'm afraid I don't know what you mean, Your Highness."
How is a man so frightening?!
He summons a napkin and hands it to me. "Dry your tears."
What?
I blink as he gives me a minuscule smile. "If anyone were to come in here and see you crying, what would they think of me huh?"
I was crying because of you! Seriously? How did I just realize that he's an arrogant little prince? To think I was fooled by that handsome face of his makes me so nauseous!
"Anyway, my parents are probably expecting us and…" He trails off narrowing his eyes at my chest.
Huh?
I lean back as his hand reaches towards me. Why is he…! "Paws off." My hand slap his with a glare. "What are you trying to do?"
"Ah," A chuckle escapes his lips as he retracts his hand. "I apologize but you have such a pretty necklace."
I blink and look down at my luminous crystal-like aquamarine heart-shaped necklace. Is he talking about this?
"Where did you get it from?"
"This?" My hands lift it up. "I believe I got this around the age of 5…" Wait a minute! Why am I spilling my secrets to a guy I just met a few days ago?
"Five you say?" His gold and silver eyes seem to change as the dominant aura dissipates leaving a gentle look. Why is he looking at me so… tenderly? Is this guy bipolar? One moment he's angry and the next he's got this look about him.
"Do you remember who gave it to you?"
"Why are you asking?" I raise a brow as his eyes widen.
"I'm just curious that's all."
"I don't remember who gave it to me." I mutter after a minute as I rise to clear my throat. "Happy now?"
Astral's POV:
Liliana…
(Flash):
A heartbroken expression appears on her face. Her hand clench as she looks at me blinking away the tears, straining a smile. Her claps are slow and shaky.
(Flash)
Lily… I haven't seen her since the wedding.
My eyes drift towards the restroom. She wouldn't notice, right?
Slowly, I open my bedroom door with a click and shut it gently. It will only be for a moment.
My hand reach for the doorknob to her room which was across from mine and slightly creek it open. This doesn't come off as creepy right? I sure hope not.
My eyes widen as I lay sight on her sleeping figure. On her face has tear stains, her hair in disarray and her cheeks are red. She's been…
I clench my fist tightly as my chest aches like knives penetrating. If I enter now… darn it!
She's been crying. I gulp and look upwards forcing back my tears. Damn it! I… I can't do anything for her right now.
A cough emanates from my throat as I hunch over putting my palm over my lips. Uh-oh…
My palm confirmed my suspicions revealing crimson red. Why now of all times?
My feet stumble back to my room as I cough my aching chest with breathing ragged. Another cough escapes my lips as muffle the sound with my palm. This hurts! I can't… breathe… My muscles ache… I don't think I can move forward.
I gasp for air as panic sets in. I start to hyperventilate as tears blur my vision. No. No. No no no. Calm down calm down. I'm going to be alright!
My feet stagger to get to the drawer as my vision blurs. Blood drips on the carpet.
Drip.
Drip.
Drip.
Every drip I heard, my life force decreases a bit, my soul bleeds internally, my vision wavers as I plop the pill in my mouth hacking out some more crimson. I'm fine. I'm totally fine.
My chest feels light as a feather as air rushes in. The pain subsides. I will be okay.
"I'm fine."
"I'm totally fine."
I whisper blinking the tears away with a lump in my throat. I'm fine. Yea… I'm fine! Just calm down.
The restroom door unlocks as I quickly used my powers to clean everything up. Come on, get it together Astral! No one can see you like this.
"Are you feeling alright?"
My lips curve upwards as I lay sight on her. She's wearing a white blouse with denim ripped jeans along with a beautiful blue aquamarine necklace. Her hair is tied into twin tails held up by two white scrunchies on both sides as it flows on her shoulders a bit. Adorable.
"Is there something on my face?"
She looks so much like her… I blink as I take her hand to stand up. "No. You look… cute."
My partner blushes, looking away fidgeting with her necklace. "Really?"
I pat her shoulder. "Yes really. You look good."
Her face grows even redder as a chuckle escapes my lips. I guess she's the type of person who blushes if someone compliments her.
"Oh, why were you sitting on the floor all curled up?"
"I was waiting for you." I lied with a laugh.
"But on the floor?"
"Yup."
A flicker catches my eyes as I stare at her luminous crystal-like aquamarine heart-shaped necklace. This is… why does it look so much like…
Her head tilts with confusion as I step closer. "Hey," She steps back eyeing me with suspicion. "Don't get any indecent thoughts."
My eyes roll with a soft sigh. "Relax. You're not my type."
Her brows furrow placing her hands on her hips. "Are you saying I'm not worthy of you? That I'm not pretty enough?"
What is with this woman?
"That's not what I'm saying." My eyes drift towards her necklace once more. If I remember correctly…
(Flash):
"Astrana, I got you a gift." I handed my younger sister a box as she stares at it.
"What's in it?"
"You're supposed to open."
"But what's the big occasion?"
"Just open it and see."
She sighs and opens the box as her eyes widen. Inside the box lays a beautiful radiant heart-shaped aquamarine necklace that shines like crystal.
A gasp escapes her lips as she looks back and forth between me and the box. "L-Lucky…"
"Hey, don't cry so easily."
My sister tackles me as I stumble back a few steps. "How did you know I wanted this?"
"Did you forget I'm your older brother? Of course, I know what you're thinking."
"It's gorgeous! Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you so much, older brother!"
A cough emanates from my chest as she hugs me tightly effectively squeezing my body. "Ok, ok. You're hugging me to death."
Laughter fills my ears as she pulls back and climbs into my bed. "But where did you get money from?"
"The guards."
Her eyes widen once again. "They would just give you money like that?"
I poke her forehead. "Of course not, silly. They escorted me to the shop the paid for the necklace."
"Oh… I thought you went out alone."
"Seriously? Considering how protective our parents are, would they let me go anywhere outside the palace alone?"
She giggles. "You're right as always."
"By the way, what were you doing in my room?"
"What? Am I not allowed in your room?"
I roll my eyes patting her head gently as she lays down on the pillow with a yawn. "Hey! Who says that you can sleep here?"
"Come on," She holds my hand swinging it back and forth. "I'm your sister."
"Yes, but you have your room and bed. Why don't you go and rest there?"
"Mmmm… you know I don't like the dark."
"So turn on your nightlight."
"But it's still scary."
"What am I supposed to do about it?"
"Simple," Her face brightens. "Let me sleep with you!"
I blink blankly as she pouts. "Astral, please?"
"Lucky, I'm scared." Tears glisten in her eyes as my gaze softens.
"Older brother." My sister sniffles with tears dripping as I let cave into her demand.
"Fine. You can stay."
She pulls me into bed wrapping her arms around my body. "Yay!"
"Hey, not so loud. Mother and Father are sleeping."
I remove her arms from my body and lay properly on the pillow. "Also, don't cuddle me like a teddy bear."
She blinks innocently. "When did I do that?"
"Must I remind you last week?"
Nervous laughter fills my ears as she pokes my shoulder. "I was asleep."
(Flash)
Now looking back on it, she's a master manipulator! I can't believe I let her sleep on my bed just because she shedded a few tears.
Ah, that's not the thing I should be focusing on right now. My eyes drift to her necklace once again. If memory serves me right, her necklace is identical to the one I gave my younger sister.
Her hands wave in front of my face. "Are you alright? Did I headbutt you one too many times?"
"Don't remind me of that." A hiss escapes my lips as I gently rub my forehead. "Are you sure you're not an animal in disguise?"
"Why you!" She punches my shoulder as I flinch rubbing it. "I never knew a prince can be so rude."
If this keeps up, I might be dead before a month!
"See? There you go again. Must you hit me every time I say something?"
"You said I was an animal." Her arms fold with a scoff.
"No. I said you might be an animal in disguise because you keep hitting your partner!"
"Same thing."
I let out a head shake looking at my hand. Day one and I'm already covered in bruises. What a way to start the day. Still…
"Starlight, let's just try to get along, alright?"
The woman in front of me blinks raising an eyebrow. "Who?"
Now I know she isn't a seasoned actress hired by Don Thousand or a spy since they will never slip up like this.
"Isn't your name Starlight?"
I blink with a head tilt as her complexion pales suddenly. If she's not a spy… then who is she? Am I just supposed to believe she's a harmless woman?
"Ah, yes." A giggle radiates through the air as a hand forcefully slaps my chest repeatedly. "Starlight. That is indeed my name!"
Ow! Ow! Ow! I grimace as she laughs awkwardly. Why do I have the feeling life will be rough from here on out?
"Can you stop hitting me?" Her laughing ceases as she fiddles with her fingers. "As I was saying, let's try to get along."
"Alright." Gold eyes look into mine. "Under one condition."
"And that is?"
"Don't touch me improperly."
She has got to be kidding me right now.
"I know what you're going to say but," A finger connects with my lip as she winks. "A woman can never be too careful when with a man."
Oh well. If that's what it takes for her to play along.
"Sure-"
"Let me finish," A devious little smirk etched on her lips as her eyes twinkle. "You have to swear you under any circumstances to not touch me inappropriately or else you'll get struck by lightning."
I blink at her words as they process in my head. "Getting struck by lightning? Isn't that going a tad far? What if there's a situation and-"
"Ah-ha! You do have ulterior motives after all!" She exclaims as I facepalm myself.
First it was Emma. Now it's Amber of all beings. Why do I always get stuck with the weird ones?!
"No genius. What if there comes a situation like last time? Remember how we met? You were drowning so I did CPR to save you."
Her face turns red as she avoids my gaze with a cough. "What are the chances of that happening again? Besides, I'll stay away from water this time. No need to worry."
No need to worry? Hah, you're the definition of worry. I'm worried for my own wellbeing here!
She glances back at me with a serious expression. "Promise that or else no deal."
"Fine." My eyes roll as a put up my right hand. "I, The Prince of this world, Astral, promises not to initiate any unwanted, non consensual, or inappropriate touching and behaviors towards The Princess of Barian World, Starlight. Any violation to this promise and I will get struck by lightning."
"Happy now?"
She beams with a giggle while pinching my cheeks. "Of course."
I sway her hand away clearing my throat. "Don't touch me."
"Aw," A pout causes her lips to curve downwards. "You're no fun. What happened to that guy I met a few days ago huh? Where did he go?"
"And what happened to the girl who didn't headbutt me when I was asleep? Where did she go?"
A giggle rings throughout the room as she nervously play with her fingers. "What was I supposed to think when we slept on the same bed?"
I shake my head letting out another sigh. Wow. This has got to be the most I'd sighed in days.
"Anyway, let's go." We walk towards the door. Why did they choose you as a replacement?
I open the door and came face to face with my fiancée. Her amethyst eyes bore into mine with a slight smile. "Good morning, Astral."
Her outfit consists of a black mini skirt that extends mid-thigh along with a light pink v neck long-sleeved blouse. Her long midnight locks are braided into a beautiful side French braid creating a feminine, sophisticated, and elegant look.
Her hair and outfit… "Your hair…"
"Oh," A melodic laugh escapes her lips. "I felt like a change in hairstyle is needed."
"Why? Do you not like it?"
My eyes slightly widen. "That's not what I meant."
She giggles. "I'm kidding."
Her eyes drift to the person next to me as I can see a flicker of sadness before a grin appears on her lips. "Aren't you going to introduce her to me?"
And so our act begins.
"This is Princess Starlight."
"A pleasure to meet you, Princess." My fiancée curtsies.
A slight smile forms on her lips. "I'm not used to people being so formal with me. So, please rise."
"Thank you, Your Highness."
"Refer to me by my name," She turns to me. "Right, my husband?"
Husband? "I'm sorry but did you just refer to me as-"
She bats her eyelashes. "We arelegally married after all."
I suppose so but… My eyes land on my fiancée. Her fist clenches with a small smile on her face.
"You seem to forget, this is a political marriage."
She waves her hand dismissively. "Yea yea. No need to remind me."
"Anyway," Her eyes drift back to her with a smile. "Feel free to call me Amber."
"Amber?" She blinks in confusion. "Isn't your name Starlight?"
She giggles. "Yes, but he refers to me as Amber."
"Well, that's because you said that you're Amberline when we first met." I countered as she pecks my cheek.
"Indeed I did, Your Highness."
Liliana's POV:
Amberline… My eyes widen. She's the Amber that…!
(Flash):
I stare deadpan at him. "Is asking for her name a problem?" I ask with a hint of anger as his eyes widen.
"Not at all. Her name is Amberline. Amber for short."
(Flash)
No wonder he reacted that way when he saw her. I gulp and look at her peck his cheek with a carefree smile.
"Anyways, I have something to speak about with her."
"Is it something I can't hear?"
He chuckles. "Oh you know, political matters and stuff."
She nods in understanding. "Ok."
"Waltari,"
His butler bows before him. "Yes, Your Highness?"
"May you accompany her to the table?"
He shoots her a smile. "Of course, right this way, Princess Consort."
Princess Consort… I chew my lip as I watch the loving interactions between them. I feel nauseous.
"I don't want to leave you." She holds his arm close as he pats her hair.
"I know but it will just be a moment."
"But… I don't know anyone else." Gold eyes look down as he sighs. True… she's in a whole new world. I can imagine how scary that must be.
A smile appears on his lips. "Look at me," He holds her hands gently. "I will be there soon ok?"
She nods pecking his cheek with a smile. "Waltari, right?"
"Princess Consort, this way please."
"Of course," She follows him leaving us alone.
My eyes drift towards him. "What do you wish to speak about?"
A pair of arms pull me closer as my eyes widen. "Astral, what are you-"
"I missed you."
My heart races as he wraps his arms around my waist. "I missed you as well, my fiancé."
His hand caresses my cheek with a smile. "You look gorgeous."
"Thank you." My face heats up as a hand lifts it to meet my gaze.
"You know you don't have to be so formal with me, my love."
My fiancé leans closer. I'm going to hate myself for this but… I place a hand over my lips as he leans back with concern.
"What's the matter?"
I take a steady breath. "We can't."
"Why not?" His eyes glance around. "No one's watching."
"You're married."
"So?"
I cup his face as my vision blurs. "We shouldn't."
"It will be unfair to her."
"I was forced into this."
"Still," My hands push him away as he tightens his hold. "We shouldn't."
"Lily," My beloved's fingers touch my cheek. "I see her as a sister. The only person I love romantically is you."
I know but… "Still, you're married by law."
My heart aches as I push him away with a sniffle. "We shouldn't. Not anymore."
I'm going to regret this so badly. My jaw clenches as he nods. "Alright. If that's your wish."
My love forces a chuckle but fails to hide the sadness in his eyes. "Can I at least get a hug?"
I tackle him into an embrace shutting my eyes tightly stifling a sob with tears leaking from my eyes. Astral…
"It's ok. I'm here." He pulls me closer. "Shhh… I'm here."
"A-Astral…"
"It's okay… it's going to be alright." A hand strokes my hair as more tears leak from my eyes. Why can't I stop crying? I shouldn't be crying but when I see them together… I… The tears keep on flowing.
"I love you, my fiancée." He whispers. "Nothing will ever change that."
My hand covers my mouth to stop a sob. "Nothing will change that?"
A hand caresses my cheek as he wipes my tears with his thumbs. "Nothing."
"Even if I lose my memories, I will still find a way to remember."
"But… if… y-you lose your memories, how can you remember?"
"Simple," My love grabs my hand and places it on the left side of his chest with a soft smile. "I may not but my heart will always remember."
I gulp trying to swallow my beating heart. "If you forget, what can I do?" There will be nothing I can do. Amnesia is a process and it takes time to recover lost memories. I guess I can help jog his memories but will that work?
"If someday I forget," His fingers dry my tears. "Make me fall in love with you all over again."
My heart skips a beat. I stare at him blinking with tears glistening. "H-How?"
"By being yourself." My fiancé utters softly pulling back a strand of hair.
My love kisses my hand with a gentle smile. "Do you know why I picked this engagement ring out of all others?"
"Because it's beautiful?"
He chuckles pulling me closer by the waist. "Yes, but that's not the only reason."
Oh? I tilt my head as he pecks my neck. "The primary reason is the twisted band. The 'twist' of the ring is symbolic of the entwining of two lives. It also represents the tightly woven bond between two partners."
So he… His luminous eyes meet mine as he wipes a tear from my cheek. "Liliana, no matter what happens during the upcoming days know this, my beloved, I love you. That fact will never change."
I sniffle choking back a sob. "Astral…"
A pair of sturdy arms envelop my body tightly leaning my head against his chest. The sound of his steady heartbeat fills my ears as a hand strokes my locks. "Just like the ring, our bond, our love is infinite."
A whimper escapes my lips as my arms wrap around his waist. "I… I love you, Astral."
"No matter what happens, I will always love you, Liliana, my one and only princess."
My arms wrap tightly around his waist leaning against his chest as tears drip onto the ground. "Oh, and don't get too close to her, got it?"
"Got it, my gorgeous fiancée."
A silence flows through us as I notice a mark on his hand. What the? My hand picks it up raising a brow. "Honey, is this a bite mark?"
"Hm?" We part as he blinks looking at his hand then to me. "Oh this?"
"Yeah. If I remember correctly, you didn't have this mark yesterday." My eyes narrow. "Did something bite you?"
Gold and silver eyes widen holding in a chuckle. "This was caused by… a little wild cat."
A cat? But when? As far as I know, the palace doesn't house any cats.
"When?" I tilt my head as he smiles.
His eyes drift to his hand. "It happened when I wasn't careful. I accidentally got too close to a bad tempered cat and it hit me."
My eyes widen as I examine it closely. "Was there any blood? Are you okay? Do you need a physician?"
He said it was wild, right?
"Darling," My fiancé places his hands on top of mine. "I'm totally fine. No need to worry."
"But-"
"I'm serious. It's just a scratch."
I raise a brow at him then points at the mark. "You call this a scratch? It's so deep! It's a miracle it didn't bled out."
When is this guy ever going to learn how to take care of himself? And how dare a mere animal harm my beloved? Did that cat have a death wish or something?!
"Does it still hurt?"
"A bit," A pout etches on his lips as he holds out his hand. "Perhaps if you blow on it, it wouldn't hurt as much."
My heart rams against my rib cage as the heat from my body flows to my face. Ahhhhhhhh! He's too… adorable! I think I'm going to die from a heat attack.
A smile flashes on my lips as I take his hand in mine and cautiously blow on it. "Is it any better?"
Red dust his cheeks as he turns away from me with a nod. "Y-Yea."
He's normally so serious but he can act so much like a child. I really hit the jackpot with a fiancé like him.
Star's POV:
"I'm going to cry,"
"It's rather depressing."
"Forget depressing," My friend holds a box of tissues at hand with tears running down his face. "It's torture to stand here and watch this go on!"
Oh lord… here he goes again. "There, there… everything will be fine." My friend pats his back.
His dark blue eyes look at him. "Derek, how can everything be fine? Have you seen them? The amount of pain in their eyes is unimaginable!"
"Ok, you need to calm yourself."
His eyes widen. "Am I not calm?!"
"Ok ok ok," He gulps with his hands up. "No need to get angry."
I lean closer to my friend's ear. "Is he okay?"
"Brandon?" Zach said with a dismissing wave. "He's fine."
He's fine? My eyes drift back to him as my friend holds a box of tissues while he is sobbing. Derek pats his back with a sigh.
"You call that fine?" I pointed at him.
"The thing is, he gets highly emotional when it comes to sad things." She explains. I figured.
"Oh, Zach, remember that one time when kept crying for an hour straight?"
He chuckles. "Oh yea, was that when he was clinging onto him the whole time?"
"Yup!"
"Oh my god, that was hilarious!"
Huh? "Care to fill me in?" I question as they stop laughing and direct their gazes at me.
"Get this," He started. "One time, we were watching a very sad and depressing movie."
"All of a sudden, he started bawling and threw himself at the closest person there was." He continued. "That person was Astral."
"Ooooooo…" I wince with a hiss. Knowing him, he wouldn't be pleased.
"You're correct," She answers. "He was not pleased in the slightest and kept pushing him off but failed because of his grip."
"Then what?"
"He tried to pry his arms off a few more times but as you can probably guess, he failed and let him use him as a teddy bear for the hour."
"Hahahahahaha!" I burst out laughing as my friends clamp their hands over my mouth. Astral as a teddy bear? Hahahaha! Just imagine his expression and the discomfort he felt back then. Hahaha!
"Not so loud!"
"We're eavesdropping!"
Astrana's POV:
"Greetings, Your Majesties." I curtsy as my 'husband' helps me up.
"Starlight, you're our daughter-in-law."
"Don't be so formal with us," The King chimes in with a slight smile.
"Also, are you planning to refer to us by our titles?"
Huh? I blink blankly not getting her words. If I don't refer to their titles, what else can I refer to them as?
The person standing next to me lets out a soft sigh and leans closer to my ear. "We're married. They are your mother and father-in-law. So you're supposed to refer to them as mother and father."
My eyes widen. "But this is only political though."
"Even though this is only political, we're still legally married."
I guess he has a point. "Can I just outright call them that? Isn't that rude?"
He subtly shakes his hand. "We're related by marriage making you their daughter as well. It wouldn't be rude."
"When you two are done whispering over there,"
"Oops," My 'husband' directs his gaze to his parents. "Sorry, Mother."
We sat down next to each other as he nudges me causing my eyes to drift to his. "What?"
Why is he…! Ohhhhh…
"Mom, Dad, did you rest well?" I ask with a smile.
"We slept well."
"Thanks for asking Starlight."
Starlight… "Mom, Dad," I purse my lip as they meet my gaze. "Can you refer to me by Amber?"
"Oh? Why is that?" How am I going to explain it to them?
"I call her that name." My 'husband' chimes in.
"Son, care to explain why?"
"Of course. Yesterday wasn't the first time we met."
"It wasn't?" Zach asks in disbelief as he shakes his head.
"No. We met a few days ago completely by chance. She said her name was Amberline so I refer to her as Amber."
I still can't believe he's a prince. What are the chances of that happening? His eyes drift towards mine with a slight smile. "Isn't that right?"
I return his smile. "You're right, Adrian." Uh-oh…
My eyes widen. "Um, I mean Your Highness." I correct hastily. "Sorry I-"
"It's fine. Don't worry about it,"
"But-"
"As I said before, I still refer to you as Amber so it only makes sense if I let you refer to me as Adrian or better yet my real name."
I gulp as he stares at me. "Y-Your real name?"
"Mhm."
But… he's royalty. Isn't it rude to refer to the Prince by his official name? I might get decapitated!
"Um…" What should I do?
"Your Highness…"
"Why the sudden hesitation?" He raises an eyebrow with a smirk. "You had no trouble referring to my name this morning when you yelled at me."
My heart stops as I look at the others who blinks then I at my 'husband' who is sporting an innocent smile. Is he trying to get me executed? I thought he said to get along.
"T-That was during the heat of the moment-"
"Huh, are you sure?"
Why this little-
"Oh, I thought I heard shouting coming from your room. Did you two get into an argument?"
I freeze as the guy sitting next to me grips my hand tightly. "Derek, it's the day after the wedding. How could we possibly get into an argument?" He looks at me as I wince trying to take my hand away from his. "Isn't that right, Princess?"
Let go of my hand you prince! Is he trying to start something with me? Maybe I should reveal how indecent he is to everyone.
A giggle passes through my lips as I subtly glare at him. "Of course. We would never argue over petty matters. It was a simple misunderstanding."
"But I heard-"
"Correct." He grips my hand tighter as I try to stomp his foot. "She wouldn't dare pick a fight with me."
Is he trying to enforce his power above me now?!
I let out a soft breath. My lips curve upwards as I lean towards the man holding my hand. "You're absolutely right, my dear husband. Why would I argue with you of all people?" My eye lashes bat as he blinks. You started this first. Don't blame me for following through.
My foot steps on his as a blank expression morphs into a pained look. He bites his lip holding back a cry as I smile brightly.
"Why would I risk getting you mad at me when I love you so much?"
Our feet fight against each other as his hand grips mine firmly. I step on his foot yet again as he lets out a hiss.
"Do you now?" A low growl comes from him as his eye twitches.
"Yup!"
Don't blame me. You deserved it.
"Son," The Queen asks as he looks to his mom. "Are you alright? You look like you're in pain."
Hm… maybe I should ease up a tiny bit.
"Pain?" The guy next to me laughs removing his hand from mine. "Why would I be in pain when I have my partner next to me?"
I hold back a yelp as I feel a pinching sensation on my lower arm. Ah great. Here we go with the retaliation. I use my other hand to swat his hand away as he tries to move my foot off of his.
"Are you sure?" The hazel eyed woman speaks up with a concerned look. "You two look… um…"
I shoot a glare at him as he matches my gaze. "Stop stepping on my foot." He whispers as my lips curve into a little smirk.
My body lean closer to his. "Why? You were the one who started it. I was just getting you back."
"Tsk, how petty of you, Princess."
"Petty? You call me petty?" A smile flashes on my lip as I lean closer to his ear. "I'm not the petty one around here, Your Highness. You are."
My lips peck his cheek as he narrows his eyes. "I'll get you back for this."
"Right." I wink letting out a giggle. "Just be glad I didn't go rogue and mess up the act. Now, stop pinching me."
A clap fills the air as a sigh rings out. "It's nice to see you two getting along so well."
Our heads turn to see The King speak. Green and red eyes stare at the two of us intensely. "You know, I was very worried you might not like our son, Amber."
"May I ask why?" I tilt my head as The Queen nods.
"Well, he's a bit… reserved…"
Reserved?
My head turns towards the being beside me who is still trying to get my foot off of his. This guy?
"Not to mention cold, distant, and serious at times."
Huh?! Are we talking about the same person here? He's reserved? As if! He doesn't miss a chance to insult me! How is that reserved?
"Really? I haven't noticed."
She sends me a smile. "We're just so grateful you're not a spoiled little princess who is using this fake marriage to your advantage and holding him accountable."
I blink at her words as The King chimes in. "Yeah. Amber, at first, I wasn't so sure what you would be like. I thought you would be someone who is unreasonable and rude. We both thought you would be the type of being who would hold a petty grudge and never let that go."
Huh…
"But seeing you now, puts our mind at ease." The Queen speaks up once more. "I know my son isn't the easiest to get along with but please, be patient with him. He isn't the type to trust people automatically and if he does anything," Gold eyes meet with her son's. "And I do mean anything to make you feel unhappy or uncomfortable," My eyes widen as her smiles stirs something warm in my chest. "Come to me and I'll take your side."
W… What… is this… feeling?
The King grabs his wife's hand. "That goes for me as well. If he does anything you dislike, come to me and I'll set him out straight."
My chest hammers as I gulp trying to force back the tears pooling in the back of my eyes. I… is this what having parents feel like? It's so warm…
I look at the guy next to me as my foot eases up on his. His eyes widen with a relieved expression as I lean close to his ear. "You're lucky you have such loving parents. I'll let you off the hook this time but don't expect me to be so forgiving." I whisper and lean back in my seat.
He lets out a breath shaking his head. "You're really something else."
What's that supposed to mean? Is he insulting me?! Was that a subtle insult?!
My lips curve downwards into a pout as I take his hand. Still got to continue the act. "Are you insulting me, Astral? Whoever heard of a husband insulting his wife?"
He blinks as his eyes drift down to his hand then back to me. "You know what, on second thought, don't refer to me by my name."
Oh?
"But didn't you just say you wanted me to refer to you as such?"
"It was a mere suggestion."
Hm… A smirk curves on my lips as a thought enters my brain. If he doesn't want me to call him that… I'll totally have to do it then!
"Yeah, and I decided to take the suggestion, my beloved Astral."
"Don't call me that."
"Why not?" My head tilts to the side as he blinks staring into my eyes with a neutral expression.
"We're not close enough for such names."
"But I'm your wife. Wouldn't be weird to refer to my husband as 'Your Highness' all the time?"
"Astral," The white haired woman speaks up as all heads at the table nods. "She does have a point."
The man next to me places his hand under his chin. "Well…"
"Besides, you refer to me as Amber so I believe I can have the same right."
"No," He gently pushes my forehead away clearing his throat. "Most of the time, I refer to you as 'Princess'."
"Not in a good way though," I mutter as he chuckles innocently.
"What are you getting at, Princess?"
"See!" My finger points at him as he bats his eyelashes. "You say it so sarcastically."
The man next to me takes a sip of water with a shrug as my eyes narrow. "Right."
Was he always this annoying?
I fold my arms giving him a pout. "I don't care what you say. I'm referring to my husband by his legal name and there's nothing you can do to stop me."
He dabs his lips with a napkin then looks at me. "I'm your partner."
"Same difference."
"Remember, you're my…" My 'husband' blinks as he dives into deep thought. Wife? "You're my… business partner…?"
Business partner… "Hahahahaha!" I wipe a tear from my eye as I try stifling a laugh with my hand. "I… I'm sorry," I said in between gasps of breaths. "It's just the way you said it, hahahaha!"
"It's true though. You're my business partner."
"Mhm but can you get rid of the term business in there?"
He tilts his head like a confused kitten. "Is it not to your liking?"
"It sounds too businessy." I respond after a few moments as he places his hands under his chin.
"Then… what would you like me to refer to you as?" He sips his water as a grins grows on my face.
Hm…
"That's an easy one. Your wife!"
My 'husband's' gold and silver eyes widen as he coughs in his palm to prevent choking. "I'm sorry?"
Hahaha! That expression was priceless! "I'm your wife, right?" I bat my eyelashes as I lean closer.
"Wrong."
"Oh? But we are married."
"Must I remind you this is-"
"Yes but it still doesn't change the fact that I'm your wife, my beloved husband."
The man I'm staring at leans back rubbing the bridge of his nose. "My beloved husband?" He raises an eyebrow as a smirk crosses his lips. "I never knew you were such a tease, darling."
"D-Darling?" My face heats up as he winks. Great… why are my cheeks getting so warm?
"Ahem," My purple eyed friend clears her throat. "When you two are done flirting,"
"We're not flirting." He and I said as she glared at me. Why is she keep glaring at me? Did I do something wrong?
"How was last night you two?" Derek asks with a smirk as my 'husband' sighs.
"Must you ask that?"
"What?" He blinks innocently. "I'm curious." Why on earth is he curious about that?
"First of all, must I remind you that this is political?"
"Which means nothing that happens during a wedding night happened last night." I chime in as he subtly smirks.
"What?"
He stifles a laugh. "Says the person who tried to kill me last night."
"What?!" Everyone shouted in alarm as I gulp.
"I-It wasn't like that I swear!"
I snap my head to him with a glare. "It was self-defense."
"Self-defense, right." His tone dripping with sarcasm. "
"You kept approaching me. What else was I supposed to do?"
"You looked nervous and were trembling with your face bright red. I was only checking to see if you were alright."
Well, yea but… "It was our wedding night. What was I supposed to think when you approached me?"
"Ok ok. Point taken but didn't I say I wasn't going to do anything out of line with you at the wedding?"
"Yes, but still, a girl can never be too careful when it comes to guys, especially on her wedding night."
Especially when it comes to a sly little perverted prince like you.
He burst out laughing. "True, very true indeed but do you actually think I was going to have my way with you?"
My face turns bright red. "W-Well you drunk the wine mere moments ago."
"And you thought that tiny bit of wine would get me intoxicated?"
"I have no clue what your tolerance level is so it makes sense that I took out a knife." I countered looking away.
"Alright, all valid points."
"Wow…" Star said in shock. "Looks like you two had a pretty eventful night."
"It was certainly interesting, to say the least." He mutters as I shoot him a glance. Since we're on this topic…
"Oh yea, didn't you say I was going to get the bed last night?"
He chuckles nervously as I poke his chest. "And what was the result? You laid sprawled out on the bed not saving me an inch of room!"
Muffled giggles came from everyone in the room.
"I was tired."
"Still, you said that I would get the bed."
"You seem to forget, the bed you slept on is my bed. So I get the final say on who sleeps on it."
"Yes, but-"
"Also, you could've slept on the couch. Why must you climb into bed?"
"The couch seemed uncomfortable plus, you said that I would get the bed so I was following your words." I countered as he slides his hand down his face with an exasperated sigh.
"You were right, Maria, this will be interesting to watch."
"Will be interesting? It already is interesting to watch."
"It's only day one but already so much drama! I love this!"
"Brandon, seriously?"
"Lily, tell me that you're not the least bit intrigued about this?"
"Well… I guess I am a bit interested in how things will play out."
Maria's POV:
"Adrikins, can I see the contract again?"
Contract? What contract?
"Sure." He summons it and hands it to her.
"What contract?" Derek asks as she smiles.
"This is a contract marriage. So he put together a contract."
"That makes sense considering this is a political marriage and all," Lily said as I nod.
"Yes, but take a look at rule 37." She hands it to us as our eyes widen. Seriously?
"Under no circumstances will you touch me in any way, shape, or form. A violation of this rule will lead to a fee of $50. This goes both ways." His mom reads and looks at him.
"Son," His dad sighs rubbing his temples. "How many times do we have to say this? Marriage is not a business."
"It technically is a business because-"
"Because someone has something to gain right?" I finished with a sigh. "You said it before but this is not a business."
"Maria-"
"I understand this marriage is a political one but still, a marriage is not a business."
"She's right," My purple-eyed friend said. "A marriage requires love and commitment between two people. A contract rarely works and if it does work, it might work oppositely."
Really? I never knew that.
"Exactly! That's what I said to him but he's too stubborn to listen."
"Hey!"
"It's true. Remember last night when you said that it's necessary to preserve our boundaries?"
"That part is necessary though. I mean like who knows what will happen?"
"True, but a contract? Don't you think that's a bit too much?"
"I never expected the person I was going to marry was you. I planned that contract for a stranger."
Him and his business ways. Why am I even surprised at this point?
I glance at his fiancée. She sports a neutral expression but fails to cover up the sadness radiating from her eyes.
"Are you okay?"
She lets out a minuscule smile. "I'm fine."
I place a hand on her shoulder. "If you can't handle it or want someone to talk to, we will always be available."
"Thank you guys but I will be fine."
I glance at my friends. "Is she really going to be okay?" I whisper as they shrug.
"We have to keep an eye out for her these couple of days," Zach said as we nodded.
"About that," Derek laughs rubbing the back of his neck.
Star's eyes narrow. "What's with that nervous expression?"
The three guys gulp. "Well, you see, we still have tons of work to do…"
Oh… true… "Seriously?" My friend whisper yells at them. "You're going to abandon her in a time like this?"
"I'm so sorry but you know how hard it is for us, you know being a junior duke." My friend said with a sigh. "Most of my father's workload is pushed onto me."
"Same."
"But still-"
"Ok," I interrupted my friend. "Don't worry, we will keep an eye on her."
Their eyes brighten. "Thank you for understanding you two!"
"Of course," I pat his shoulder with a smile.
We just have to keep a close eye on her. It shouldn't be too hard right?
Astral's POV:
Amber, why do you have the same necklace as her? Is it a coincidence or could you be…
"I must be going crazy," I mutter to myself as I stand on the balcony of my room.
"What do you mean?" A feminine voice chimes in as she stands next to me.
"Star, when did you get here?"
She giggles. "You were lost in thought that you didn't hear me enter."
"What do you mean when you said you were going crazy?"
"It's Amberline." I started looking at the blue waves roar.
"What about her?"
"She looks and acts like my deceased younger sister."
Her eyes widen a bit. "You have a younger sister?"
"Yeah. Her name was Astrana."
"And you say that she looks like your younger sister?"
I turn to meet her emerald green eyes. "Well, the grownup version of her since she died at the age of five."
"If she passed at the age of five, then how can Amberline be your sister? It doesn't make any sense."
My hand clutches my forehead. "I know. I know it doesn't make any sense but she and her are just so similar. Whether it's in mannerisms or appearance."
My friend stays quiet as she grips my hand gently. My eyes widen. "Star?"
"I had an older brother."
She… remembers? "His name was Dekis." My friend utters softly gripping my hand even tighter.
"What happened to him?" I ask after a moment of silence as I pull her closer into a hug.
"I only remember bits and pieces but I had a feeling that he died because of me."
(Flash):
"Watch out!" My sister screams as I swirl my head to see an attacker rushing forward with a sword.
My eyes widen as his speed accelerates like a lightning bolt unseeable to the naked eye. I shut my eyes getting ready for the sword to pierce my being.
…
…
…
I cautiously open one eye as my heart stops.
"Astrana!"
My sister faces me with blood dripping from her mouth with tears in her eyes. "Lucky…"
(Flash)
Just like… Tears blur my vision as I forcefully blink them away. Astrana…
"I sometimes see him in other people." She chokes out as I hug her tighter.
"Shhhh… it's going to be okay…" I pat her back as tears fall onto my shirt.
"I-I know it makes absolutely no sense but I had a feeling that he died because of me. That it was my fault!" She sniffles as I take a deep breath holding back my own tears.
"I'm sure that it's not your fault."
"N-No, it was my fault."
"Look at me," I cup her face as tears leak from her eyes. "There's no evidence that you are the one at fault." I'm such a hypocrite.
"But-"
"But nothing." I will not let her live in regret as I have for all these years now. Absolutely not.
"You're starting to remember and that's great but don't make assumptions. Don't jump to conclusions and blame yourself for the matter."
"Star," I summon a box of tissues, take one tissue and dab her tears. "I'm sure that it's not your fault."
"Even if it is your fault, you shouldn't be blaming yourself."
"What? If it's my fault then I only have myself to blame."
"Yes, but what's done is done. You can't keep blaming yourself for past events." I am such a hypocrite right now. I'm saying this but I still somewhat blame myself for her death.
Hahaha… what has my life come to?
She wraps her arm tighter around my neck. "Astral?"
"Hm?"
"I sometimes see him in you." Hah?
"The way you act… is like him." The way I act?
"Can you clarify?"
She nods. "With my limited memories about him, he seems to be somewhat aloof but very… caring."
Aloof yet caring… "Do you remember when I first woke up?"
"Mhm."
"Your face was like a mask. You didn't show an ounce of emotion in your expression or tone. I was left wondering if you can even smile." She giggles a bit as I chuckle. That's the first time a person has ever said that to me.
"My brother was similar. He wasn't particularly warm with strangers but was still polite and formal just like you." She pulls back and places a hand on my cheek. "Based on what I remember, the only difference in personality between you and him was that he was really shy. He didn't talk much and sometimes, my parents would make him go out and socialize." Ah, every introvert's nightmare.
"When it comes to you, you don't talk much but you're really confident. You're more of a reserved person than shy."
"How do you know that I'm not shy? Maybe this is just another mask I put up for people."
She shakes her head. "No, the mask that you put up has long faded. Sure, you act emotionless but in all honesty, you care the most out of everyone."
My lips curve upwards. "Just as I expected. Good job."
My friend giggles. "I should've figured that you knew."
"Star, the thing about you is you don't talk much but you are highly intelligent." I started holding her hand. "You're able to see through my facade even though I did my best to hide my true self from you."
"Not many people can do that."
"Let me guess, Liliana and Maria are the only ones right?"
I stroke her hair. "Liliana was the first one to get a reaction out of me."
"Oh? That must've been interesting."
"Yea, it was."
"Then a few days later, it was Maria."
A sigh escapes my lips as she pulls me into a hug wrapping her arms around my chest. "To this day, I still don't know how they did it. For as long as I can remember, I have always been known to be 'emotionless'. Some would even say that I don't have a heart because I rarely ever show any emotion when I was younger."
"What rude people."
"Eh, I didn't pay them any mind. After all, they were somewhat true about their assumptions. When my sister died, I began wearing a mask everywhere I go. I would sometimes forget that I have emotions." A chuckle escapes as she looks at me with tears in her eyes. Why is she looking at me like that?
"Why are you-"
She hugs me tightly. "I'm sorry."
"I'm sorry for bringing up memories of her."
Oh… My hand pulls her head closer leaning it on my shoulder as I grip her arm. "Don't worry about it. You have nothing to apologize for. If I haven't gotten this out of my system, I would probably explode and revert to my facade."
"I'm grateful for you," I utter softly as she hugs me even tighter.
"Thank you. Thank you for listening to me, Astral."
"No worries. What are friends for am I right?"
"So, how are things between you and Lily doing?"
Well… "It's fine."
She raises an eyebrow. "Really?"
I nod. "Really. Everything is fine between us."
My eyes slightly widen. "Why do you ask me that? Is she not fine?"
"From what I can see, she's handling it pretty well but who knows. Perhaps that's just a facade to mask the pain she's been experiencing."
(Flash):
My eyes widen as I laid sight on her sleeping figure. On her face were tear stains, her hair was disarray and her cheeks were red.
(Flash)
My fist clenches. "I have a favor to ask of you."
"Anything."
"Keep a close eye on her for me will you?"
My friend blinks and smiles. "Of course, she's my friend as well so we will do that without you asking us."
"Let me guess, Maria is in on this as well?"
"Mhm. Not to worry, we will keep a close eye on her."
"Oh yeah," I glance around the room. "Why is it so quiet?"
"Maria and Lily took your wife shopping."
They did? "Huh… that's quite a surprise."
"I know right?" She sighs moving and wrapping her arms around my waist. "She's too nice for her own good sometimes."
"Just think about it, who would take their love rival out shopping?"
I roll my eyes. "That's just how she is. Plus, she's not her love rival. Not even close to it."
My friend tilts her head. "How?"
"I see her as a younger sister."
Her eyes soften in realization. "Astral-"
"I know what you're about to say but she just looks so much like her."
A hand rubs my back gently. "Not only that. She has the same necklace that I gave to my sister."
"What?"
"I know." I clutch my forehead. "Is it just a coincidence?"
"Did you try asking her where she got it from?"
"She doesn't remember."
"Hm… and you said she's a replacement right?"
"Yup."
I wonder…
"Have you tried figuring out her past?"
Of course! Why didn't I think of that? "You're a genius!"
"I can-"
"Adrikins, where are you?"
"Star is-"
…
…
…
My fiancée looks at us blinking. "Are we interrupting something?"
"Hey you three," My friend smiles as she unwraps her arms around my waist. "What are you doing here?"
"You were here this whole time?!"
"We went all over the palace looking for you."
She giggles. "My bad. How was shopping?"
"It went well."
"Astral!" She tackles me wrapping her arms around my chest. "Did you miss me?"
"Didn't I say not to call me that?"
"Yea but when do I listen to you?" Her eyelashes bat as I let out a breath. She's going to be difficult to get under control.
A chuckle emanates from my lips as I pat her head. "Sure." My eyes drift to the dark blue butterfly clip in her hands. That clip…
"Oh, are you wondering about this clip?" She shoves it in my face with a smile. "Is it pretty?"
She's just like a child. Unruly in every way possible.
(Flash):
"Lucky!" My younger sister tackles me tightly. "Did you miss me?"
"Miss you?" I laugh ruffling her hair. "How I wish I can."
She shoots me a look. "Mommy, Lucky is bullying me!"
"What?!"
"Astral, you know better than to harass your sister." My mother scolds, stifling a laugh.
"But I-"
"No buts, young man." My father chimes in looking at me. "Apologize to your sister."
"What the? I didn't-"
"Daddy," She runs over pulling his sleeve with a pout. "He's not apologizing!"
"Astral." His eyes bore into mine as a sigh escaped my lips.
"I apologize, Astrana."
She giggles and tackles me once more. "Yay! My brother finally said sorry!"
"You two are so biased, you know that?"
"That's the perk of being younger than you." She whispers as I pat her head.
(Flash)
"Yeah, it's pretty," I pat her head as her cheeks dusted with red.
Her eyes light up. "Can you clip it in my hair?"
"I don't see why not," She hands me the clip. "Ok, where do you want it?"
"Um…" Hm…!
"Hold still," I take out one of the scrunchies holding her hair up and replace it with the blue butterfly clip.
"What are you doing?"
"Do you have another clip that's the same color?"
"Yeah," She hands me the other one as I did the same thing.
"You better not mess up my hair."
"Relax," I said while brushing out her hair. "Like I would go mess up your hair."
"I don't know, you just might."
A mutter enters my ears as I yank the brush through her hair causing a hiss to radiate through the room.
"OW!"
"Whoops," My eyes shut with an apologetic smile. "My bad."
"Petty little prince."
"I don't understand what you mean, Princess." I tilt my head batting my eyes. "It was an accident."
"Yeah right."
"And… done."
"Girls, what did he do?"
My fiancée summons up a mirror. "Have a look for yourself."
Her eyes widen as her hands gently touched the clips in awe. I'm assuming she likes it.
"Amber?" I raise a brow as she stares at her reflection without blinking. Is she okay?
"I love you!" She tackles me and plants kisses on my face as I struggle to push her away. Oh lord…
"Amber… Amber, hey, there's people."
"Who cares? I'm your wife."
"Nope. You're my partner."
She raises a brow wrapping her arms around my waist. "That term sounds so much like a business."
"Exactly."
She shoots me a look. "Would it kill you to refer to me as your wife?"
I ruffle her hair with a smile. "Remember, this is a political marriage."
"Yes, but the term partner sounds so cold and business-like."
"Unlike wife, which is more intimate and caring."
Exactly. "Why wouldn't you refer to me as your wife?"
"This is a business."
She rolls her eyes. "Nice try but first of all, this is not a business and you're saving that term for someone else, aren't you?"
My eyes subtly drift towards my fiancée. "Why would you think that?"
Has she figured it out? "Considering why you wouldn't refer to me as your wife even though we are legally married, you must be saving that term for someone else."
I chuckle. "Like there's someone else for me to use that term for."
She shrugs. "If there is such a person," Her gold eyes meet mine with a smile. "I'm sort of jealous."
"Oh?" I raise a brow. "Don't say that you've fallen for me already."
Her face turns bright red as she hits my shoulder. "In your dreams."
"Then why are you jealous?"
"Isn't it obvious? If there is such a person, you would spend all of your time with her and not me."
This sounds familiar…!
(Flash):
"You better make time for me once you're married."
I rubbed her back with a smile. "Of course, I will always have time for you."
(Flash)
Oh… no wonder it sounds so familiar.
"Of course, I will have time for you."
"Really?"
My lips curve upwards. "Really."
"Oh, do you know that Lily has a fiancé?"
My love stiffens with a nervous expression as my eyes meet hers. Did she tell her?
"Oh?" I chuckle nervously as my hand fidgets my ring.
"Mhm! Did she not tell you?"
"Of course, she told me."
"Then did she tell you a name because no matter how I ask it, she refuses to tell me."
Um… what should I say? My partner latches onto my arm. "Her fiancé must really love her since he has gotten her such a luminous diamond ring."
My lips curve into a smile. "Yea, he must love her very much."
The woman next to me looks at her ring with a frown. "Hey, look at her ring at and look at mine." She shoves her finger in my face. "Notice anything different?"
Here we go.
"There're both rings."
"But her's a lot fancier and it has a huge diamond." A whine escapes her lips as she swings my arm back and forth. "Mine is so plain and lifeless."
I groan softly rubbing my temples. "Well, she has an engagement ring. They are made to have a flashier appearance versus a wedding band, which is simple and elegant."
"You think I don't know that?" Gold eyes drift to her ring once again.
"And besides," My hand picks up her examining the ring closely. "Plain bands are considered timeless and elegant. Think about it, they can go with any outfit and they won't scratch easily."
"Well yeah... but the least you could do is put some flair into it. Like a diamond pave for example or an eternity ring."
She's right. I could in theory buy that type of ring but why should I? I already brought a ring for my fiancée. I don't make it a habit of buying girls rings.
"You have a point but a plain band suits you better." I said after a moment as she blinks at me.
"Are you saying I'm plain?"
Hm... how to use this to my advantage so she won't get mad...
I stifle a laugh with the back of my hand. "Not at all. A plain band suits you better because-"
"Its the most generic and cost effective thing for you to buy?"
Yes.
"Partially," Her eyebrows furrow as she crosses her arms with a pout. "Pairing two extravagant rings can be a difficult endeavor. However, the elegance of a simple wedding band can couple perfectly with any ring." Gold eyes look towards me. "That way, if you want to stack rings on top of this, it will look amazing."
"Really?" A gasp fills the room as her eyes radiate with excitement. "So does that mean if I stack a diamond ring on top of this, it would look good?"
"Yes."
"Ooooo!" Her lips curve into a bright smile as she holds up her hand and examine the ring at multiple angles. "Now all you got to do is get a diamond ring."
What?
"Huh?"
"You heard me, I want a diamond ring."
I blink at the woman in front of me as giggles erupt from my friends nearby. "You're kidding, right?"
"Do I look like I'm joking to you?" Her hands swings with mine. "I want a diamond ring my dear husband."
"No."
"Why not?"
I remove her arms from mine. "Do you think I go around buying rings for every woman I meet?"
"Perhaps you do but seriously, Astral, buy me a ring!"
"Over my dead body. I already got you a ring."
Her lower lip pouts as she tugs my sleeve. "You're so cruel."
Cruel? She calls me cruel? Hah! Be glad that I even got you a real ring and not some fake like sterling silver.
"Go buy one."
"With what money?"
My shoulders shrug with a smirk. "Then I guess no ring for you then."
A hand punches my shoulder as she turns away muttering underneath her breath. Why this little!
"I can charge you for abuse, you know that, right?"
"And I can charge you for assault as well but," Gold eyes narrow at mine. "Looks like we both can't have our ways."
Argh! This woman is driving me nuts! Woah... calm yourself Astral. Why am I getting so worked up over a woman I met just a few days ago?
