Liliana's POV:
Perhaps… At least it wasn't a no but why does it still hurt so much? I blink sitting across from him as he fidgets with his ring on his left fourth finger with a calm disposition.
"You're nervous."
My love raises a brow. "Oh?"
"Your expression might not show it but your body language gives you away." I point out. "You fidget with your ring when you are nervous."
His eyes widen and glance at his fingers, blinking in disbelief as he clears his throat sipping his tea. Why is he nervous?
"Do I make you nervous?" I ask as he blinks blankly putting the cup down slowly not leaving my gaze.
"Why would you say that?"
It's quite obvious that he's uncomfortable around me. My chest constricts as I gulp. "It's obvious."
"Lady…" He pauses thinking for a moment as my heart tightens even more. Why can't he just ditch the title? "Liliana," Well, he's making the effort to not use it. "It's not that you make me nervous or uncomfortable."
Really? Because it sounds like you are uncomfortable when you said my name just now. "You can't even say my name without mentioning my title yet you can refer to our friends by their proper names." Why? Why can you refer to our friends by their names yet you can't refer to me normally? I'm your fiancée for goodness sakes!
Tears blur my line of vision as I blink them away. Don't cry. Got to stay calm.
"You don't make me uncomfortable." My love states after a few minutes of staring at me. "As I said, I'm trying to digest this whole thing to the best of my ability."
"I know," I sniffle blinking rapidly. "And yes, I understand how tough it must be to realize that you suddenly have a fiancée who is pregnant but," I take his hands in mine staring at him. "Can you try to refer to me by my name from now on?"
"But I already-"
"Correct, but when you say it, it seems forced."
He closes his mouth as I bite my tongue. So, I was right. "Please, my love, this is all I want." I stare into his mismatched eyes. "I don't care if you don't remember. I don't care if you don't love me anymore." Tears drip down my cheeks as he sighs shaking his head.
"You're lying to yourself."
What…?
"The truth is you long to hear that three word phrase," My body stiffens as he retracts his hands picking up the porcelain cup with a twitch of his lip. "You also were hoping I'd say something along the lines of 'Even if my memories of you are gone, my feelings for you still remain.' Isn't that correct?"
My heart hammers in my chest as I grip my hands tightly. "I…" My throat closes up. "You're wrong. I don't…"
"You think I haven't noticed?" The guy in front of me raises a brow. "It's all displayed on your face."
Really? Am I that transparent or is he just an expert at reading people?
"There's something you should know about me," He voices after a minute sporting a distant gaze. "Since I woke up a few days ago, I figured out I can lie without feeling any remorse or guilt."
W-What?
"P-Pardon?"
"Hm," He hums a bit moving his fingers along the rim of the cup. "Did you remember a few days ago I blatantly lied to a guy making him think I forgave him but in actuality, I just wanted his testimony?"
My eyes widen as he places the cup down with a clink. "So you… said all of that… without…" I gulp staring at the being across from me. "Without meaning any of it?"
"Yes."
H-How? How can he say something so…
"Judging by your expression," His face devoid from any emotion. "You didn't know that about me."
"Ha…" He must be lying. "You're lying, right?" He was born to be an actor. "There was no way you didn't mean what you said. Your expression-"
"I guess you don't know me that well." Gold and silver eyes pierce into mine as an intense aura surrounds the room. "I can mimic the expressions made by individuals. Not only that," My body shivers as his eyes darken. Black rings form around his irises. "I know what they are feeling the instant I look at them making manipulating easy as a walk in the park."
W-What on earth… I… no… he's lying… he wouldn't do such a thing…
"I bet you're thinking I'm lying and wouldn't do such a thing." He crosses his legs with a smirk. "Think as you desire but the man you're holding onto is an illusion."
"No."
"Sorry?"
My fingers grip the couch as I narrow my eyes at my fiancé. "He's not an illusion. Stop trying to manipulate me with your words, Astral. It won't work."
He shakes his head once again letting out a chuckle. "You still don't get it huh? I only showed you what you wanted to see."
"Stop…"
"Even if I could remember the past, I'm pretty sure-"
"Stop it!" My eyes shut tightly clenching my teeth. "Why are you doing this to me?" I open my tear riddled eyes meeting his neutral face. "I refuse. I refuse you did all of it without feeling anything. I absolutely refuse!"
"It's the truth."
Gold and silver eyes stare at mine as I sniffle. Great. Now I can't even tell if he's telling the truth or lying.
"Stop it with this scheme of yours." My grip tightens on the couch. "It's not going to work."
"You're doubting yourself."
"Will you stop being correct about everything?!"
"Just face it, the man you once knew is gone." His eyes stare outside. "And in his place is someone who doesn't have any memories."
"No. Stop it. Stop saying that."
"Lady Liliana, are you sure you want to marry me?"
Why would he ask that? My eyes widen at the sudden change in topic. "Why would you-"
"I still can't remember anything. The doctor said there is a very slim chance that I can recover them." He stated as I close my eyes. "Marriage is not a game. I don't want you to get stuck in a loveless marriage."
Loveless marriage? My chest tightens even further. He doesn't love me…
(Flash):
His luminous eyes meet mine as he wipes a tear from my cheek. "Liliana, no matter what happens during the upcoming days know this, my beloved, I love you. That fact will never change."
I sniffle choking back a sob. "Astral…"
A pair of sturdy arms envelop my body tightly leaning my head against his chest. The sound of his steady heartbeat fills my ears as a hand strokes my locks. "Just like the ring, our bond, our love is infinite."
A whimper escapes my lips as my arms wrap around his waist. "I… I love you, Astral."
"No matter what happens, I will always love you, Liliana, my one and only princess."
(Flash)
Astral…
I gulp as my mouth goes dry. "Are you saying that after all of this time we spent together," My vision wavers as my fingers grip tightly on the hem of my skirt. "You have absolutely no feelings for me? Not even an ounce?"
The person in front of me displays a neutral expression summoning up a box of tissues. "I wouldn't say that but-"
"So you do love me?"
My fiancé bites his lip running his fingers through his blue hair. "I'm sorry but currently, I only see you as a friend."
Friend… Tears fall from my eyes down to my cheeks as I clench my hands together. He only sees me as a friend. My chest hurts. A sharp stab radiates from the left side of my chest as my stomach knots. Just a… friend…
I sniffle as my eyes blink rapidly. "Is it because you like someone else? Is that why you are rejecting me?"
The person in front of me blinks blankly as I look towards the ceiling. I… does he really like another being?
My heart clenches at his lack of response. He really… "Is it someone I know?" I whisper as he snaps from his stupor.
"What?" The being in front of me scoffs dismissively. "You think I like someone else? Hahaha, I cannot tell you how wrong you are."
His finger fidgets with his ring as a laugh radiates from his lips. His reaction… "You think I would like someone when I don't even know who I am? You're funny, you know that?"
"Who is she?"
His laughter dies down as he takes a sip from his cup. "There's no one. You're overthinking things and-"
"Stop lying to me. I knew you since we were six. You honestly think I can't tell truth from lie?"
"I only view you as a friend and all I want is-"
"Is it Maria?" It can't be Estrella since he rejected her… Maria is a possibility considering their past and all…
Gold and silver eyes widen. "What? No. She and I are just friends and we just met. How can I fall for her that quickly?"
Then…
(Flash):
"Are you sure you're not my fiancée?"
(Flash)
I gulp as my fingers curl into a ball. "You like Star, don't you?"
The man sitting across from me suddenly freezes with his eyes wide. I knew it. The way he looked at her, his slight smiles… he likes her.
"You like her, right?"
…
Why won't you answer? My eyes lock with his as I grit my teeth. What's with all the hesitation? Don't tell me you actually have romantic feelings for her… please…
"Right?" Tears cloud my vision as he purses his lips. Please Astral…
"I…" He trails off not meeting my gaze. "She's just a friend."
"Yeah." My fiancé's expression morphs into an impassive look. "You know, you shouldn't say untrue things. If word gets out, it could very well have an effect on her reputation."
Moisture drips from my cheeks into my lap. He… I blink rapidly as he starts making excuses and defending her reputation. The fact that he's defending her like this…
"I only view her as a friend. Nothing more, nothing less."
"Do you really?" My lips utter as his eyes slightly widen.
…
Again with the hesitation.
My eyes shut letting out a breath. Why? Why does he like her out of all beings? Why must it be her? Why not me? I'm his fiancée for crying out loud!
I open my eyes once more laying a hand on my stomach. "I'm bearing your child."
My love lets out a soft sigh clutching his head. "Lady-"
"Refer to me by my name."
"Liliana, you don't have to force yourself into this. We can-"
My hands tighten my grip on his. "I'm not forcing myself into this marriage." My voice trembles as I try not to hyperventilate. Keep calm. Control your emotions. "Even without this child, I would still want to marry you."
I choke back a sob as my fists clench. "I love you, Astral. That fact will never change!"
Got to stop crying! Stop crying god damnit! My heart feels like it's getting slowly ripped apart.
(Flash):
"I still can't remember anything. The doctor said there is a very slim chance that I can recover them." He stated as I close my eyes. "Marriage is not a game. I don't want you to get stuck in a loveless marriage."
(Flash)
Astral, why are you doing this to me? You weren't this cold to me before. Not only that, do you really not love me anymore? Was everything in the past some sort of dream?
"The marriage is in two days." My beloved stands up walking towards the door. "Think about what I said. It's not too late to change your mind."
Change my mind?! "No." I stand up with my legs trembling and launch myself towards him wrapping my arms around his waist and laying my head against his back. He stiffens standing limply. "No matter what you say, I will not change my mind."
"This marriage holds no benefit for you."
"Even if that's the case, I would still want to marry you."
"Why would you go do something that has insignificant value to you? I already said I don't remember our connection. If this is a loveless marriage, what would you have to gain?"
"What would I have to gain?" I shut my eyes tightly holding him closer. "You." My face buries itself into his shirt. "I don't care if you don't love me. I don't care if you don't remember anything about us, our connection." My voice trembles as I force back a sob from existence. "I want you, Astral. Just you is enough."
"I only see you as a friend-"
"I don't care!" I shout hugging him tighter. "I don't care if you love me or not. I don't care."
"You might not but I do." He said after a moment making my eyes widen. "Look, are you really going to be happy? I already said I only view you as a friend. I have no attraction to you besides platonic."
I stay quiet trying to muffle my sobs in his shirt. Friend… platonic… no attraction… Another sharp stab radiates from my chest as I clench my teeth. Never in my life have I hated the word friend this much.
"What's the use of this marriage if two sides aren't willing?"
"I'm willing to-"
"I'm not."
My heart halts as I can feel pieces of it break at those words. I stare at his figure in disbelief, clenching my teeth.
…
"I don't care." My arms wrap around his body tighter. "Even if you don't have those feelings for me now, doesn't mean that you can't develop them later."
My fiancé stays silent as he slowly shakes his head with a sigh. "This isn't love."
My eyes widened as he tries to remove my arms. I wrap them tighter pressing my body against his back. "Why do you say that?"
"I said on multiple occasions that I only see you as a friend. If you force this marriage upon us, we would both end up unhappy." My beloved goes quiet for a moment as he tries to loosen my grip from his waist. "By doing this, we'll both end up unhappy. It's one sided Liliana and…" A soft breath escapes his lips. "What you're doing isn't love. It's lust."
My eyes widen. Lust?
"This is coming from a guy who doesn't understand what love is." I roll my eyes. "How on earth do you know what lust is?"
"You just said it. I see you as a friend but you want to marry me after my countless attempts at rejecting you."
"I-"
"Forcing someone to stay by your side out of affection for them is not love."
His words hit me like a ton of bricks. Forcing… someone to stay by your side isn't… love…? But…
"How would you know that? Yes, perhaps I'm forcing you into this situation currently but in the past, you-"
"Exactly. In the past as in before I lost my memory." My beloved interrupts as I blink. "I'm not him. I'm not the guy that you once knew, Liliana."
What? What is he saying? "What on earth are you saying?" A laugh escapes my lips. "You're my fiancé."
"But I'm not him."
My eyes widen as he gently removes my arms. "The guy that you loved, who swept you off your feet," He turns around to meet my eyes. "That guy is gone and in his place is a vessel without any memories."
He… what is he saying? How does that make sense? Was that what he thought this whole time?!
"No," My fist clenched as a lump forms in my throat. "I told you to stop saying that! You're not a vessel. You're my fiancé. Even if you don't remember, that does not make you a different person."
He chuckles shaking his head. "Do you think that's the case? Your fiancé, from what everyone has told me, loved you. Me on the other hand…"
This must be the identity crisis the doctor was speaking of. I knew I should've waited until the adjustment period was over.
"Listen to me," I approach him cupping his cheeks. "You are Astral. You're my fiancé. You're not anyone else. Got that?"
"And how will I know that for sure?" He shrugs. "You could all be making up this lie and-Mph!"
His eyes widened as my lips connect with his. The soft, pillowy texture of his lips collide against mine as trickles of water from my eyes flow down my cheeks. Has he been thinking like this for all this time? And to think I haven't gotten a clue what goes on in that brain of his.
Does that mean I'm a bad fiancée? My arms slowly pulls him closer as his body goes limp, standing there rigidly. The warmth of his breath tickles my nose as his eyelashes flutter rapidly. A force pushes me back by the shoulders causing my feet to stumble a few steps.
The man in front of me pants, trying to catch his breath as his gold and silver eyes glare at me. "Never come near me again."
I gulp trying to stop breathing so heavily as my beloved hisses clutching his head. "Astral, I-I'm sorry." My voice stammers as I approach him a bit. "I-I didn't mean to-"
I pushed him too far. Why on earth did I do that?! I said I wasn't going to do anything to make him feel uneasy but now…
"I mean it," His eyes narrow. "Do not take a step closer."
Both hands clutch his head as he winces opening the door to find everyone leaning up against it. Seriously?
"Lucky, are you okay?"
"Move."
"But-"
"Astrana, please move."
My beloved hisses shutting his eyes tightly with beads of sweat dripping down his forehead.
"Astral!" My heart races as he stumbles.
"Not one word from you." His tone raises not sparing me a glance as he leans against the wall rubbing his temples.
"Son, let's-"
"Mother, father, I'll be fine." He responds shutting his eyes. "There is a certain someone I have to get away from for a while."
A stab penetrates through my chest as the corners of my eyes well up. Someone I have to get away from… "I-I'm sorry-"
"If you would excuse me."
They all move from his path as my fiancé walks further and further away from the room. I messed up. I messed up big time.
"Lily, what did you do?"
Another stab courses through my chest as my legs give out. I sink to the ground as tears flow from my eyes.
(Flash):
The man in front of me pants, trying to catch his breath as his gold and silver eyes glare at me. "Never come near me again."
(Flash)
A sob escapes my lips as my chest heaves up and down. My vision blurs as I grip the fabric of my shirt.
"Whoa, hey, what are you doing? Get up!"
A hand touches my arms as I yank it off. My chest aches yet again as a fresh batch of tears stream down my face. My lips are met with salty warm tears as I hyperventilate.
"H-He… H-He h-hates m-me."
Astrana's POV:
"It could've been worse." I groan as my friends sit on the couch in my room.
"As I mentioned earlier, he could've said no."
We glare at him. "Seriously?!"
He flinches with a sheepish smile. "Perhaps that wasn't the best thing to say…" You think?
"We have to do something to jumpstart him."
"I agree. We all heard what was said to her in the room, right?"
"Yup,"
(Flash):
"What would I have to gain? You. I don't care if you don't love me. I don't care if you don't remember anything about us, our connection." Her voice trembles. "I want you, Astral. Just you is enough."
(Flash)
We let out a sigh. Liliana… she loves him that much? I mean, it's not that I question her love for him but rather it's unbelievable and quite astounding that she cares for him that much. While my brother on the other hand…
(Flash):
"Look, are you really going to be happy? I already said I only see as a friend. I have no attraction to you besides platonic."
(Flash)
"After she said all of that," My friend shakes her head with a breath. "Is his heart made out of stone or something?"
"How can he not feel anything after that confession?"
I clench my fist. "Guys," They turn their gazes towards me as I stand up. "Whatever we do, we must make a plan. Any plans to make him fall for her again."
But I do wonder... My eyes drift to my white-haired friend who is sipping water. "Star, can I ask you something?"
Her head nods as I bite the inside of my cheek. Considering his reaction when she asked him that question...
"Is there something going on between you and my brother?"
...
The whole room goes dead silent at my question as bright emerald eyes widen.
"I'm just curious that's all,"
Especially because...
(Flash):
"Lucky,"
"Don't call me that and yes, Astrana?"
My figure turns to face the stars above letting out a sigh. "Who do you think Star is?"
He turns to me blinking blankly. "What I mean is, we know that she has amnesia but who was she before?"
The individual next to me shrugs. "I don't know," Gold and silver eyes narrow at me as I gulp. "Why do you ask?"
"Aw," I pinch his cheeks as he wrinkles his forehead. "Can't I be curious? After all, I would also like to help her recover the memories."
A hand gently slaps my hands away. "You would like to help? Sure, you can help by not putting any pressure on her."
What?!
"Since when do I do that?" I place my hands on my hips leaning forward. "You know something I realized?"
"Hm?"
"What is it about her that makes you behave so differently?"
My twin brother stares at me. "Differently?"
"Yea," I place a hand under my chin. "Mom told me you saved her at the bottom of a cliff. Usually I wouldn't question it but then she told me you said that she's interesting."
"What's your point?"
Does he really not get what I'm hinting at?
My arms cross over my chest. "You treat her differently. Like you act different around her."
"How so?"
Hm... how do I say it in words?
"Just have a feeling you are too overprotective of her." Is that the correct word?
He blinks blankly furrowing his brows a bit. "Overprotective..."
"Yeah... I don't exactly know but I get the feeling you see her more than a friend." But... then again... I could be wrong.
"Are you saying I like her romantically?"
Eh?!
"No." I let out a breath. "I'm not saying that. I just... from my perspective," My fingers run through my hair as I turn back to meet his eyes. "You treat her not as a crush but rather something more than a friend."
The being beside me purses his lips as the wind howls through the dark room. The moonlight shines making the numerous of stars twinkle. But what? If he doesn't see her in a romantic light... and he treats her differently than Maria... what could he possibly see her as? And usually when a guy says a girl is interesting...
"Perhaps its because..."
"Because of what?"
Luminous gold and silver eyes meet mine as the breeze makes his hair flutter. "I don't know but I get the feeling," He places his right hand over his chest. "I saw her before."
He... saw her before?
"It was as if..." My brother trails off glancing at the moon once again. "We met long ago."
(Flash)
The fact he said that...
"Don't get me wrong," I snap from my thoughts as my friend stares at me. "I'm not accusing you of anything but you heard what was said in that room."
...
Uh-oh... is she angry? Offended? I never knew how much of a poker face she has...
A smile tugs at her lips as she slowly shakes her head. "I thought you would know me by now, Astrana."
"Don't get me wrong, I just wanted to make sure-"
"Honestly," She places a hand under her chin with a smirk. "If he was single, I would definitely go for him. I mean your brother is quite the catch."
Oh boy. Here we go once again.
"Yes, I hear that a lot." Seriously, I already know he's good looking. He alone hogs all of the good genes in the family.
"But I have no interest in breaking up a family."
That puts my mind at ease.
"Then why-"
"Hm, my guess is he's confused. Platonic love and romantic love are totally separate things. Considering he has no memory of love, that could very be likely."
Huh…
…
"I'm all in," My friends all stand up. "After hearing what she said, how can we not do something?"
"I swear, we will make him love her again!"
I put my hand in the middle. "Let's go do our best!"
"Yay!"
"Hold it, Your Highness," A voice calls out as she places her tea on the table. "Don't you think you're being too hasty?" What?
"What do you mean, Estrella?"
"You heard what she said in the room, didn't you?"
"Yes, Derek, I was there but what's the plan? Surely we can't go in blind." She's right…
…
…
…
We sit back down. "You're right…"
"What should we do for him to love her again?"
"How about a damsel in distress?"
My eyes widen as my female friend glare at him. "What did you just say?"
He flinches. "N-Nothing."
"Care to repeat what you said, Zachary?"
"Now, calm down the both of you." My hazel-eyed friend said as we gawk at her. What the?
"Maria!"
"I agree with her," My brown-haired friend said. "He's trying to come up with a plan."
"Well, that's a horrible plan," I mutter as he sighs.
"Thanks for the boost of confidence." His tone drips in sarcasm as I roll my eyes.
"That's not a bad idea but is this the first time you met her?" My white-haired friend said. "She's anything but a damsel in distress." Yup.
"Any other ideas?"
"Hm… I got it!" Derek exclaims as we focus our gaze on him. "Sword fighting." Seriously?!
My friend facepalms with a groan as he tries to explain his idea. "Don't dismiss it just yet. Remember what happened when they first met?"
"Ohhhhh…" The guys all realized as I blink.
"Care to fill me in?"
"They fought when they first met," Brandon said as I blink again. Wow… and now they're about to get married? How does that even work?
"Not even that," My friend stifles a laugh. "He insulted her. Calling her fighting skills ludicrous." Oh lord! Knowing her… she wouldn't let that slide.
"Then what happened?"
"Well, let's just say it took some adult intervention to get them to stop fighting."
"And by that," My white-haired friend started. "You mean the king and queen had to step in?"
"Bingo!"
Woah… "That's not a bad plan although you seem to be forgetting one thing."
"What am I forgetting?"
"She's pregnant and my brother took her sword."
His eyes widen. "Oh… I forgot about that."
"Any other ideas?" This has been a complete bust so far.
"How about a date?" My hazel-eyed friend said as all eyes focus on her. This could be a good one!
"What kind?"
She places her hand under her chin. "I was thinking along the lines of a romantic stroll in the park or the beach at night with all the lights lit up."
So romantic! "Finally, we're getting somewhere!"
"Good thinking!"
"One problem though," My brown-haired friend looks at me. "How are we going to arrange for them to go on a date?"
"What do you mean?" Zach asks in confusion as she lets out a soft sigh.
"In the time that I've known him, he doesn't seem like the person that would go on dates." Well… true. She's got a point.
"What to do now?"
My friend's eyes widen and he bursts out laughing like a maniac. What the huh? Why did he…
"Uh…" My friend cautiously touches his shoulder. "Are you okay?"
"I got it!" He rubs his hands together with a smirk as we glance at each other.
"Care to elaborate?"
"Guys," His smile fades into the most serious expression I have ever seen displayed on his face. "I love you all. This might be the very last time you see me." What?!
"Are you… dying?" I utter out as my friends nudged me.
He giggles and walks out the door with a dark chuckle. Huh… "Ok…"
"Well, that happened…"
"Any idea what he's planning?"
"Beats me."
"Is it weird that I'm a bit scared by his change in personality?"
"You're not the only one." Just what is that guy planning?
Brandon's POV:
(Knock)(Knock)
"Who is it?" Perfect! She's alone. Time to put my plan in motion!
"Lily, it's me."
"Enter."
I can do this. My hands push the doors open to greet my friend who is currently wearing a pink v neck blouse, a pink mini-skirt decorated with flowers, and pink sandals. Holy cow!
She tilts her head as she walks toward me. "Brandon," She looks… "What are you doing here?"
"You look good." I finally manage to say as she blinks with a giggle.
"You think so?" My friend twirls around in a circle making her vanilla perfume assault my nostrils. "I think it's a bit too much pink." Clothes really do make a person. And that vanilla perfume as well.
"No, you look good. You should wear pink more often." I enter the room as we sit next to each other on the couch.
She rolls her eyes. "You know that I find pink too feminine of a color."
I sip my tea with a smile. "I know but that color suits your skin tone and your beautiful amethyst eyes."
My friend seems taken back by my words as she smiles. "Thanks for the compliment."
"No problem, gorgeous." I wink as her eyes widen.
"What did you just call me?"
I lean closer as she leans back with a perplexed expression. "Brandon?"
I can't believe I'm doing this. "You're radiant as ever, you know that?"
My friend blinks in confusion. "Thank you. You look good as well."
I place a hand on her thigh. I am so sorry for this. "What are you-"
"Liliana, did you forget our time together?" She stares into my eyes as I gently push her down hovering above her.
My friend's eyes widen. "What are you talking-"
"I can't believe you are this cruel. We had such a fun and loving time together before you left me two years ago."
"Loving?"
"That accident you were involved in about two years ago," I lean closer to her as she shifts her gaze. "You still don't remember our time together?" Tears prickle the corner of my eyes as her eyes widen.
"What are you talking about?"
I sniffle as my finger lifts her chin to meet my gaze. "Liliana, do you know how much it pains me to see you next to my friend all day every day?"
Her lips part as she stares at me in disbelief. "Are you ill or something?" She struggles to push me off. "Since when did we have a romance together? And get off me."
"You honestly don't remember anything about us?" I run my thumb across her lips as she shudders.
"Look, I think that you have a fever. We never had any romantic connection or anything that would indicate a romantic relationship."
"Oh?" My lips curve upwards as I lean until our noses touch. "Not even if I can tell you the exact location of your birthmark?"
A gasp escapes her lips. "H-How do you know that I have a birthmark?"
"As I said, I know everything about you and your body."
"You pervert!" She seethes in anger as I pin her arms tightly.
A chuckle escapes my lips. "Darling, do I seem like that type of person?"
"Currently, yes."
Her eyes glare daggers at mine. "Tell me, how on earth do you know that I have a birthmark?"
"I saw it."
"You-"
"One of them is on your left breast. The shape is a heart. The other one is on your upper back in the shape of a beautiful flower."
Her jaw drops as her breath hitches. "H-How?"
The things that I do for both of them are unbelievable! After this, I better get a shiny medal! "You want to know how I know?"
"Did my parents tell you? Is that it?"
Well yes, but best if she doesn't know that for now. My eyes drift towards the door as I can see my friends peeking through the door with shocked faces leaning on each other for support and rubbing their eyes. Her fiancé conveys a neutral expression as his piercing gaze shoots right through my being. Seriously? Astral, why are you just standing there?! Aren't you going to help her?
"No one told me, gorgeous. I still remember our first time together like it was yesterday." I wink as she sputters.
"You're my friend and what exactly are you talking about?" She shouts struggling against my grip. Looks like drastic measures must be taken. Liliana, please, forgive me.
My eyes darken with a chuckle. "If your mind doesn't remember, then maybe your body will."
Her heart thumps rapidly as fear rose in her eyes. I apologize for this. "Brandon-Mph!" My lips slam down on hers as her eyes widen. My friend freezes as I continue to claim her lips. Don't open your mouth, Brandon. Got to keep it closed.
Her eyes trail down to her lips as she jerks her head violently from side to side. "Mph!" I am soooooo sorry! Please, forgive me, my friend.
"S-Stop-Mph!"
The door bursts open as pain explodes in my right cheek. Ow! A murderous aura fills the room as he hoists me against the wall with a glare so deadly that it could pulverize me into dust times one million. Took him long enough.
"Get this into your head, Brandon," He mutters dangerously as I gulp. "She's my fiancée. She belongs to me and only me." His grip tightens on my shirt with a dark chuckle that makes my spine tingle as sweat starts to form. "I don't care if you and she have a history together but she loves me, not you and I swear to god, if you dare lay a finger on her, I will pulverize you making it so you will never be reborn ever again!"
Maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all. Man, if glares could kill, I would probably be dead already.
His fist clenches as my friend's eyes glow radioactive green. My face pales as I shut my eyes bracing for his fist. I'm dead!
…
…
…
Why don't I feel a fist? I cautiously open my eyes as a hand blocks his hand. They look at each other in silence as his green glow fades. "Don't."
"Let go of my arm." He orders in an emotionless tone not even sparing her a glance and directs his attention back to me.
"Astral, he's our friend."
"He forced himself on you. What kind of friend does that?"
"Spare him." Her eyes soften as she cups his cheek.
His eyes narrow as their eyes meet again. "Why should I?"
"He's our friend. Spare him, my beloved."
"You're not answering my question." His grip tightens on my shirt collar as I gasp for air. Oh no! "Tell me, why should I spare him? Because he's your friend?"
My throat starts to constrict as a dizzy spell course through my veins. At this rate, I might pass out! "Or perhaps, because he's your ex?"
Her eyes widen as she glances at me with a gasp. "Loosen your grip! You're choking him!"
"Answer my question."
"He's just a friend!" She exclaims hastily trying to pull his hand away. "Please," Her eyes shine in desperation as she cups his cheeks. "If you keep doing this, he's going to die!"
My friend glares at me. "Don't you dare forget what I said." My friend lets go of my shirt as he intertwines his fingers with hers. "Let's go, my beloved."
Her eyes widen as he drags her behind him. Holy… I almost died! My legs give out as I fall to the ground with a thump breathing heavily. T-That was… dangerous.
Inside the mind link:
"All that's left is up to you, Liliana."
"They told me everything. Thank you, Brandon! I owe you one."
"No problem. Have a good time!"
"Love you!"
Did she just say… "Love you too!"
Outside the mind link:
Astral's POV:
(Flash):
My fiancée blinks in confusion. "Thank you. You look good as well."
He places a hand on her thigh as she furrow her brows. "What are you-"
"Liliana, did you forget our time together?" She sports that confused expression as he gently pushes her down hovering above her.
(Flash)
My chest tightens as I tighten my grip on her hand. What is this feeling? It's so… uncomfortable.
(Flash):
"Oh?" His lips curve upwards as he leans until their noses touch. "Not even if I can tell you the exact location of your birthmark?"
A gasp escapes her lips. "H-How do you know that I have a birthmark?"
"As I said, I know everything about you and your body."
"You pervert!" She seethes in anger as he pins her arms tightly.
A chuckle escapes his lips. "Darling, do I seem like that type of person?"
"Currently, yes."
"Tell me, how on earth do you know that I have a birthmark?"
"I saw it."
"You-"
"One of them is on your left breast. The shape is a heart. The other one is on your upper back in the shape of a beautiful flower."
Her jaw drops as her breath hitches. "H-How?"
(Flash)
Why am I thinking about this? And why did I react that way against him? I let out a sigh clutching my head as I plop myself on a bench.
"Astral?" My fiancée carefully touches my arm as my gaze shifts toward her.
The woman beside me sports a confused yet concerned expression as my eyes narrow. That confused look…
(Flash):
He places a hand on her thigh as she furrows her brows. "What are you-"
(Flash)
"Why was he in our room?" I lock my gaze with hers as she lets out a breath of relief.
"Oh, I don't really know-"
"So you just let him touch you and push you down like that?" I grip her wrist tightly as she winces.
"Ow! That hurts." My fiancée tries to wiggle it free with little success. "And he's my friend. Why wouldn't I let him in?"
I grit my teeth glaring at the woman in front of me. Why is she so innocent? "Did you know what he could've done to you?" My grip tightens on her wrist. "Are you really that naïve thinking that he doesn't have any other motive in pushing you down and touching your thigh?" I whisper lowly to prevent attracting the attention of others while keeping my anger in check.
Why am I getting so worked up?
"Astral, let go. This hurts." She whimpers. Her amethyst eyes glisten with tears as my eyes widen immediately letting go.
A hiss escapes her lips as red marks covered her wrist. Uh-oh… dang it! Why did I get so angry? "Liliana, I-I'm sorry," She rubs her wrist as I gulp. "I didn't mean to…"
"Why did you suddenly get so angry?" The woman beside me hisses as she gently runs her wrist. "And to answer your question, yes. I didn't think he was going to do that."
What?! "Are you telling me that you're okay with a guy touching your thigh?"
Her eyes stare at me in disbelief. "Of course not. Why would you even ask that?"
"Then why didn't you move or pull away?"
"I didn't think he was about to push me on the couch." My fiancée states placing a hand under her chin. Seriously?! "Plus, it's not like he was going to do anything."
My hand slowly slides down my face with a groan. This woman is really ugh! I don't even know what to say anymore! "You're kidding, right?"
"Do you not comprehend what happened?" I ask as a pink shade appears on her cheeks.
"Of course I understand what happened."
"As I said, he's a friend so I wasn't expecting him to do that."
"So, care to explain-" Wait… why am I asking about this? This has no value to me whatsoever. She can do whatever with her life.
My fiancée tilts her head in confusion. "Darling?"
"Never mind."
She frowns holding my hand. "Aren't you going to ask me about my relationship with him?"
I shrug. "You can do whatever you want."
"What is that supposed to mean? Do you not care that I had a past romantic relationship with him?" I don't even know at this point. It's all so confusing!
"It's your choice." I finally said after a few minutes. "If you want to tell me, then go ahead. After all, you're free to do whatever you want with your life."
Her eye twitches as I raise a brow. "Why is your eye twitching?"
"I'm your fiancée yet you're not going to even ask me about my relationship with him?!" Does she want me to ask?
"Am I supposed to ask?"
She slides her hand down her face with a groan. "Seriously?" Hmm… maybe I should ask her something.
"Are you okay after he kissed you?"
The woman next to me blinks and burst out laughing. "Hahahahaha! Oh my gosh." She wipes a tear from her eye as she looks at me. "Do you think I'm okay after he forcefully kissed me?" I did not think this through.
A chuckle escapes my lips. "Now you know how it felt when you did it to me."
The woman beside me looks down fiddling with her fingers. "I-I'm sorry. I shouldn't have-"
"It's fine."
"But…"
"I'm serious. It's fine."
A hand ruffles my hair as my face scrunches up.
"Not the hair!"
"But it's so soft." Her eyes light up as she strokes through it gently with a smile. My hair is soft? Hm… I wonder…
My fingers touch a strand of her hair as my eyes widen. "Hey, your hair is pretty soft as well." How did I not notice how silky it is before? Huh… how strange.
Her eyes slightly widen as a tint of red dust her cheeks as I continue to rub her head gently. Eh? Is she blushing? "Are you blushing?"
She scoffs and turns away. "Blushing? As if!" Denial at its finest.
"Love, I want ice cream!" She points to an ice cream shop nearby selling frozen desserts. Can a pregnant woman eat ice cream?
"You're pregnant."
"So? I can still eat ice cream as long as it's made in hygienic condition and contains pasteurized milk."
"I guess you have a point."
"Don't I always?" I roll my eyes poking her cheek as she giggles.
"Flavor?"
"Hm…" She places a hand under her chin. "I'm craving… vanilla!" Vanilla huh? For some reason, I'm not surprised that she chose that flavor.
"Alright," I stand up. "Stay here okay?"
"Be back soon."
A chuckle escapes my lips. "I will."
I walk towards the store and stare at the options. Hmm… should I get one as well? "May I help you?"
"Yes, may I get one vanilla and one cookie and cream ice cream please?"
"Of course, sir. That will be $3.75."
I take out my wallet and hand her the money while taking the cones. They look delicious! "Thank you, have a good day."
"You too, sir."
(Ding)
I turn the corner as my eyes widen. What? A guy approaches my fiancée and sits beside her. Hm…
"Hey Gorgeous," He winks as she blinks. "Can I have your number?"
I leave for not even 5 minutes and a guy's hitting on her already?
She giggles and smiles at him. "I know it can be hard to put yourself out there, but unfortunately, I'm not interested. I appreciate you asking and being respectful, though."
"Ah," He rubs the back of his neck. "It's quite alright, miss. Truthfully, I haven't had a person reject me so kindly as you."
"Oh?"
"Yea, well," He stands up. "It was worth a shot."
"Have a good day, miss."
"You too, sir."
Huh… she handled that well. Has she been hit on before? "Honey, how long are you going to stand there?"
I thought I hid pretty well but apparently not. "Good job." I hand her the ice cream as she raises a brow.
"On what?"
"Not many people can stay calm and respectful while rejecting a person."
She laughs. "Oh, it comes with tons of experience." So I was correct.
"Can I try some of your ice cream?" She bats her eyelashes as I blink looking back and forth between hers and mine.
"Why?"
"Because I want to."
A sigh escapes my lips. "I'll go get a spoon."
"For what?"
"Don't you want to try some of my ice cream?"
"Yea, but no need for a spoon." Huh? Then how is she going to…!
"Hey, wait!"
Her hands take my cone and lick it with a smile. "Yum!" And there goes my wonderful ice cream.
"I already licked it though…"
"So?" She eats more of it raising a brow. "You can have some of mine."
I savor the vanilla cone as my eyes widen. "Not bad… sweet but not too overwhelming." No wonder she likes this so much.
"It's good right?"
"Yup! Although, I find the cookies and cream to be better."
"Eh, these two flavors both have distinct appealing traits."
"Mhm."
A moment of silence passes through us as the wind rustles the trees causing them to howl softly. It's so peaceful.
"Hey, Astral?" My fiancée turns to me as I look at her.
"Yes?"
"After this, can we visit the beach?" The beach?
"Why's that?"
"I want to see the lights." The lights? There are lights at the beach?
"Lights? What do you mean?"
"Today is the day where the northern lights show up."
"The northern lights?"
She giggles. "I guess you've forgotten. The northern lights are auroras that display dynamic patterns of brilliant lights that appear as curtains, rays, spirals, or dynamic flickers covering the entire sky."
"There's such a thing?"
She nods. "Yup! Can we go see it?" Hm…
"But it's pretty late as it is. If we go see it then-"
"It's a once in a lifetime chance, baby." She swings my arm back and forth with a pout. "If we miss this, who knows when it will show itself again?"
"Alright. I'm curious to see what it looks like but I have to notify my parents-"
"I already did." Really?
"When did you do that?"
"A few moments ago via telepathy."
"Why am I not surprised." I groan as she pecks my cheek. "Hey, refrain from physical contact."
"Awww, it's just a peck on the cheek, not a full-blown lip kiss." She mutters as her eyes widen. "Honey,"
My hand collides with her lip. "Don't even think about it, darling."
"You referred to me as 'darling'." My fiancée exclaims in a disbelieving tone as I blink.
"What?"
"That's the second time you referred to me by pet names." I did?
I blink blankly as she holds my hand. "The first time was when you pulled me away from Brandon. You referred to me as 'my beloved' and the second time is now."
(Flash):
"Don't you dare forget what I said," I let go of his shirt as my fingers intertwine with hers, pulling her out of the room. "Let's go, my beloved."
(Flash)
Ohhhhh… but why did I refer to her as 'my beloved' and 'darling' without any conscious thought? I struggle with her name yet I can refer to her by pet names? How does that make any sense?
Liliana's POV:
Is he… recovering his memories? My eyes lock on his as he gulps shifting his gaze elsewhere. "Let's head to the beach!" My love takes my hand and starts dragging me.
"Isn't it a bit too early though?"
"Then where do you want to go?" Let's see, since it's still light out… My lips curve upwards as I hold his arm. "Ice-skating!"
My beloved raises a brow and looks at my stomach then meets my gaze as he touches my forehead. "You reckless woman. Are you trying to harm our child?" He teases as I furrow my brows with a pout.
"But I like ice-staking though!"
He shakes his head with a stern look. "No. You are not doing anything to harm it."
"But-"
"No."
"Baby," My hands clasp his tightly giving him my best puppy dog eyes. "You took my sword. Now, you're going to be cruel to take away another thing I enjoy?"
He gives me a blank stare as I lean closer until our noses touch. Seriously? No reaction? Not even a blush? How can that be? "If the things that you enjoy weren't harmful to our child then yea, I would let you participate in them." His hand gently push my forehead back. "Unfortunately, you seem to like sword fighting and ice-skating. Both in which is strenuous." Darn it!
"No fair!" I cross my arms as he burst out laughing. Then what am I supposed to…!
My lips curve upwards as I pull him closer by the neck caressing his face. "What are you…"
"Baby, there's one way that you can make it up to me." I throw him a wink as he raises a brow.
"What's the way?"
My arms pull him closer as our noses touch. "Don't you already know, my darling?"
He shrugs with a clueless expression as I internally facepalm. Did he forget social cues or something? "You're not tensing up." I point out as I look into his eyes. Does that mean…
"The marriage is in a few days. Plus, even if I push you away, you wouldn't listen and keep doing this." Of course, he would say that. Typical.
"So you learned to stand still and let me do this?"
"Mhm."
My forehead touches his as I pull him closer until our lips are centimeters apart. "Aren't you worried that I will take action against you?" My fingers travel to his jaw, caressing it as he sports a neutral expression. "After all, look how close we're standing."
"Yes," My love shoots me a slight smile. "But you won't do it." Hm…
"How do you know that I won't?"
"If I remember correctly, you said that you won't do anything to make me uncomfortable. Surely, you're a woman of your words, are you not, my fiancée?"
I blink as my lips curve upwards into a smirk. "You're right, I won't do anything that you're uncomfortable with." At least he's getting used to physical contact.
"Alright," He pushes me away gently. "This is enough for one day."
My lips draw into a pout as I lean on him. "Mm. Don't wanna!"
He stiffens as I wrap my arms around his waist and sighs. "Come on, this is enough."
"Can't I show affection to my fiancé?"
"There are people here."
"So?" I raise a brow as my eyes light up. "Ah, so you're saying that I can only show affection in private?"
He blinks pushing my cheek away from his face, undoing my arms. "I would prefer for us to limit physical contact." Why am I not surprised.
"Hmph, of course, you would," I place my hands on my hips with an expectant look. "Is this how you treat-"
"Dada?" Dada?
My beloved looks around the park grounds with a confused expression. "Did you hear something?"
"Dada!"
"I hear a tiny voice calling 'dada'," I respond as he scans the park again. From the tone of voice, it's got to be a toddler right?
"You hear her too?"
"Yup. How could I not? Her tone is faint but it's there."
"Dada!" A little pair of arms hug his legs as our eyes widen. Huh?!
Maria's POV:
"OW!"
"Sorry," I grimace as I apply the medicine to his cheek. Oh god…
(Flash):
"Get this into your head, Brandon," He mutters dangerously as my friend gulp. "She's my fiancée. She belongs to me and only me." His grip tightens on his shirt with a dark chuckle that makes our spine tingle as sweat starts to form. "I don't care if you and she have a history together but she loves me, not you and I swear to god, if you dare lay a finger on her, I will pulverize you!"
(Flash)
My body shivers as the door opens. Never have I seen him so… furious before. No, that word doesn't even begin to describe that murderous gaze he was giving him.
"Ow!" He hisses with a wince as I snap from my thoughts. "Be gentle, will you?"
"Whoops, sorry,"
"I am so sorry about my son, Brandon."
My friend shoots the queen a small smile. "Don't worry about it. After all, I planned this to happen."
"No wonder you said those words," I mutter as he chuckles with a hiss.
"Ow!"
"Do you know how reckless that was?" I dab the bruise to clean up the blood. "He looked like he was about to rip you to shreds!"
"You think I wasn't anticipating that reaction from him? The things I do for her are way too much." He groans as I sigh.
"But, it did produce a reaction out of him so at least he cares enough to become jealous."
"Mhm." His eyes widen. "The way he reacted, do you think he loves her, or is that just a respect thing?" Good question… I have no idea.
"What's the difference between them?"
The door creeks open again as the king, the count, and the countess enter. "Love can be defined as a strong sense of affection and liking that an individual displays towards another." He starts. "While respect can be defined as admiration for someone because of their qualities or achievements."
"These two qualities somewhat overlap so it's difficult to distinguish but love is born of the heart; respect, of the mind." His wife continues his thought as we blink. Hm…
"Does that mean," I place my hand under my chin. "He respects or loves her?"
"That's a tough one," The General rubs his chin in deep thought. "Respect is an emotion, in fact, a conscious emotion. Love is more of a 'State of mind' than an unconscious one. They are not mutually exclusive but 'love' is the sub-set of respect." So… respect and love go hand and hand.
His wife nods. "There's a saying- you can't love someone without respecting them first. Therefore, I think that he respects her at this time."
"But if they go hand and hand, can that respect turn into love?"
They glance at each other then turn back to me. "Yes. Respect can morph into love after some time." Yes! Thank goodness.
"But," She closes her eyes with a soft sigh. Uh-oh. That's always followed by bad news. "People can respect a person without loving them."
"How can that be?" My friend asks as he hisses cautiously touching his cheek. "I thought love and respect go hand and hand."
"They do," The General states. "But think about your favorite celebrity. Do you love that person or do you admire them for the things they do and qualities that they possess?"
…
"Oh." We said in unison as my friend sighs. "So, what you are saying is that he respects not love her?"
They glance at each other for a bit. "It's quite hard to say but according to what we know about his personality," The queen started. "Most likely the affection he's showing towards her now is out of respect."
"Unfortunately," My friends walk in and plop themselves on the bed with sighs. "She's correct."
"How are you all so sure?"
"We got back from spying on them in the park." My friend with the aquamarine hair states. "He said 'It's your choice. If you want to tell me, then go ahead. After all, you're free to do whatever you want with your life."
"Seriously?! After all of my sacrifice, he's not even going to question our relationship?" My friend seethes clutching his cheek.
"Looking at it now, it really does seem like he's stemming out of respect, not love."
"Unfortunately, I think that's the case but there's hope."
"You guys, did you remember what he said when he was pinning him to the wall?"
"How could I ever forget? That was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life!" My friend shivers.
"You mean…" My eyes widen as they nod.
"Yes, he refers to her as 'my fiancée' in what I would say a possessive tone."
"So you think… that respect is transforming into love?"
"That's a possibility but then again, I'm not the best judge for his emotions." He looks at the king. "Your Majesty, what are your thoughts on his behavior today?"
"If you're asking me, I would say that no doubt he reacted that way because he was jealous but I'm not really sure that he's reacting like that because of love or not." This is confusing. "Oh, how's their date coming along?"
"It's... getting there." My friend said after a moment of thought. "The only problem is that she won't make a move towards him."
"What do you mean by that?"
"It's like," He places his hand under his chin trying to formulate a thought.
"She's sort of respecting his wishes for limiting physical contact between them."
"Bingo, Star!" My friend shoots her a smile. "Exactly, She's not making any physical advancement towards him despite him being her fiancé." Oh.
My friend with the bruised cheek sighs deeply with a groan as he throws his arms into the air. "Was my sacrifice worth nothing?!" I pat his back as he cups his cheeks in his hands. "If this keeps up, I think I'm going to be crazy!"
"Psst," My green-eyed friends lean toward me. "Is he... okay?"
"He's highly susceptible to emotions. This must be really bothering him."
"Oh..."
"Don't worry, Brandon,"
"Derek," He shifts his eyes towards him. "How can I not worry? These two must get together."
"Why's that?"
"Do you want her to be sad all the time? I mean," He gets up and starts pacing around the room, "I mean, you heard what she said in the room, right? Her love for him is so selfless. She wants to be beside him regardless of whether he loves her or not! As a friend, I have to get him to remember his feelings for her no matter what it takes, I swear, I will help the two of them!"
Everyone smiles with claps radiating around the room. This is a whole new side to him. He's really passionate about this. "The only problem is, what should we do now?"
"Brandon, you took a huge risk in kissing her by the way," My friend said with a stern expression. "If she hadn't stopped him, you would've been dead."
"I know but it's worth it because I can no longer stand standing on the sidelines!" He plops himself back on the bed. "Do you know the feeling that you get when you want to do something but can't?"
We pat his back as he buries his head in his hands. Poor Brandon. "Oh, and you do realize that we're going to have to keep this charade, right?"
"Yep. Which also probably means that he will hate me for forcing myself on her." Most likely.
Astral's POV:
"Dada!" A little girl between the age of 1 and 2 hugs my legs tightly as I blink. "Don't leave me," Did she just refer to me as 'dada'?
"Erm… are you calling me?" I point to myself as she opens her big eyes. Woah… those eyes…
"Yes,"
She has fair skin and pale blue hair that ends at her upper back. She's wearing a casual blue dress that extends to her knees. There is a hair clip in the shape of a snowflake holding her bangs to the side. In the center of the eyes are a shade of deep purple. Why do those eyes seem so… familiar? My eyes drift to the woman next to me then back to the girl hugging my legs. Why does she look identical to her?
"Is she your sister or something?"
She shakes her head. "No… I'm an only child so far as I know."
"But," I glance at her eyes then the girl's eyes again. "How does she look so much like you? She even has the same eye color."
"Dada!" She hugs my leg again as I stiffen. Is she lost? Where's her family? Looking at her like this, she can't be more than the age of 1, right?
My fiancée kneels to her level offering this girl a smile. "What's your name, sweetheart?"
"I'm Melody and I am two and a half." She holds up two of her fingers and then one half of a finger as my fiancée stifles a laugh.
"Your name is highly unique,"
"What does unique mean?" Her tone laces with confusion as she looks up at me.
"It means special," I said after a moment as her lips turn into a grin.
"I'm special?"
"Mhm. You're very special." She said as the girl tugged my hand.
"Dada, do you hear that? The Angel called me special!" Angel? Does she mean… I look at my fiancée who shoots me a smile.
"Apparently, I'm an Angel."
"Looks like it."
"Anyway," She directs her eyes back to the girl who is still clinging to my leg. "Where are your parents?"
"They must be around here somewhere," I said while looking around the park grounds. I guess that she lost her family. Poor girl.
The girl tugs my leg again as I look down. "Dada." Why does she keep calling me that?
I tilt my head as her index finger points at me. "You're dada!" What?!
Uh… this is intriguing, to say the least… "I'm your father?"
She shakes her head. "Not father. Dada!"
"Isn't that the same thing?"
"No. You're my dada." She points to me with a smile as she hugs my leg. But that's the same thing. There is no difference between them.
"I think you're mistaken," I kneel towards her level. "I'm not your father."
"Of course, you're not. You're my dada."
She's not getting it. "Ok, I'm not your dada."
Her bright eyes blink at me and place her tiny hand on my cheek as I stiffen. "Are you ill?"
"Look, I bet that your parents are worried about you. So if you can tell me where you last saw them, we can…" I trail off as I notice her lip quivering with tears brimming from her eye sockets. Her hands hold mine swinging it back and forth a bit.
"You're not my dada?"
"I'm not."
"No." She furrows her brows. "You're my dada!"
"I'm not your dada." I reiterated as she tackles my chest burying her face into it. Oh, come on.
"Dada," Tears flow on my shirt as I bite my lip. "Don't leave me again." If she's saying this, then does that mean her real father abandoned her?
"Melody," My fiancée places a hand on her shoulder. "Why do you keep saying that he's your dada?"
She shoots her a smile. "Because he's my dada!" That's not clearing anything up.
"Dada," She nuzzles her head in my chest even more as I let out a sigh. But I'm not her father though. Or am I?
"Hey," I whisper to my fiancée. "Um… did I have a two-year-old daughter before I lost my memory?"
Her jaw drops as her lips form into a pout. "Hmph,"
"What's wrong now?"
"You're asking your fiancée this? Don't you see anything wrong with that?"
I raise a brow. "I don't see anything wrong with it. All I'm asking is that do we have a two-year-old child that I'm unaware of."
She blinks. "Ohhhhh, you were asking if we…" Her face turns bright red and looks away. "N-No,"
"I thought that was the case," I clear my throat as I direct my gaze to the girl. "Melody, I'm not your dada."
"You are my dada!" Her tiny hand held mine tightly. "Do you not want me anymore?" Tears trickle down her cheeks as she sniffles. What am I supposed to do in this situation? I can't just let her cry like this, can I?
The woman next to me promptly lifts her in her arms drying her tears and gently hugging her. "There there, don't cry. He doesn't mean it like that," She soothes as the girl sniffles.
"Actually, I do mean it like-ow!" She nudges me in the ribs sending me a glare and a shushing sound. Isn't it better to tell her the truth? Her parents must be worried sick right now.
"Don't listen to him, sweetheart, he's a meanie." My eyes widen at her words as the girl in her arms giggles. She dare insult me?
"Some fiancée you are," I roll my eyes crossing my arms. "And you dare insult The Prince?"
A giggle escapes her lips. "I'm your fiancée so technically, I'm your Princess Consort."
"Not yet."
"Only one more day to go, my darling." She sends me a wink. "Then, I will be your official Princess Consort."
I let a huff of air escape my lips as my fingers run through my hair.
"What's a fiancée?" A tiny voice calls out snapping our conversation as we turn to her.
"A fiancée is a woman who is to be wedded to a man." She explains as she nods slowly.
"Ah," She looks back and forth between us. "So, you two are about to get married?"
"Yup."
"When will that be?"
"The day after tomorrow. Which is in two days."
"If you two are getting married, then you will be my mommy." She gasps and wraps her little arms around my fiancée's neck. "Mommy!"
"For the last time, I am not your dada."
"You are my dada."
"No, I'm not."
"You are."
"I'm not."
"Dada," Her lips curve into a pout. "You are my daddy!"
Why is she so stubborn? "I am not your-"
"Mommy," She hugs her neck with a cute pout. "Daddy doesn't need me anymore."
Her lips curve into a smile as she pats her back. "Don't listen to him. Of course, he wants you."
In the mind link:
"What are you doing?" I ask in confusion. "She's not-"
"I know, she's not but do you have to be so harsh? She's just a toddler."
"Her family is probably looking for her as we speak. It's better to hand her over to her real parents."
A beat of silence passes through as I heard a soft sigh. "You do have a point but we've been here for the last 3 hours. Don't you think that if they wanted her, they would've come back?" Is she saying...
"Are you saying that her family perhaps abandoned her?"
"That's my hunch. Remember what she said a few minutes ago?"
"About her father leaving her? Yea... but that still doesn't prove anything about your theory."
"You're right,"
"So, what are we supposed to do now?" I ask after a beat of silence.
"You ask me, who should I ask? Hm... I have an idea but you might not like it." Might not like it?
"Oh? What's the idea?"
"Since she's insisted on you being her father..." My fiancée trails off as a thought clicks. You...
"Are you saying that I'm going to be her 'father' from now on?!"
"See, I told you that you wouldn't like it." She mutters. "Honey, it's only temporary until we find her actual parents. After all, we can't leave her at the park all alone. Numerous kidnappings are going around."
"You have a point... and that could work but you have to promise me one thing."
"Anything." Considering her personality, she might get attached to her as time goes on. If that happens...
"Remember that this is a temporary thing until we manage to find her real parents. That means, do not get attached to her too much. It will make her leaving you unbearable."
She stays silent for a few minutes thinking things through. "Alrighty but, you have to promise me one thing as well."
"What is it?"
Outside the mind link:
My fiancée puts her down gently and pulls me closer by the waist. My eyes widen. "What are you-"
"Promise me that you will refer to me by my name from now on."
"I-"
Her finger connects with my lips with a minuscule smile. "We're about to get married. It would sound peculiar to people if my husband addresses me, his wife, by her title, right?" Good point.
"I guess you have a point."
"Don't I always, my beloved?"
A chuckle escapes my lips as I pat her head gently. "So, promise?"
"Mhm," She holds out a pinky as I blink blankly at it. A pinky?
My fiancée sighs at my blank expression as she takes my pinky and intertwines it with hers connecting our thumbs.
"There. Don't you dare break our pinky promise!"
A laugh escapes my lips. "Pinky promise? What are we kids or something?"
Her eyes widen for a fraction of a second as a smile graces her lips. Her hand press against my cheek softly as I tilt my head. "Lady-"
"What did you just promise me?" Oh yeah.
"Liliana, what are you doing?"
"Is there a rule against me showing affection to you?" She blinks innocently while planting a lingering kiss on my cheek.
"That's always been a rule."
"Mama," A tiny voice caused us to turn our heads. "Can I open my eyes now?"
"Why are your eyes closed?" I ask in confusion as she opens them with a smile.
"Because you two were kissing and I didn't want to interrupt." Kissing? Well, she did kiss me on the cheek but that's not worth it for closing your eyes for.
The woman beside me giggles. "Oh no, I was kissing his cheek, that's all but," She sends me a wink. "If you want," Her hand strokes my chest as my eyes shift with the movement of her fingers. "I would gladly kiss you on the lips, my love."
"Hey, watch it with your hand," I warn as she pecks my nose. My face heats up as the girl claps.
"Dada, your face is red!" Red? Huh… a redness on the face is characterized by the change of hormones. Am I embarrassed that she kissed me on the nose?
She pulls back stifling a laugh with the back of her hand. "Oh Melody," My fiancé lifts her poking her cheek. "Since we can't find your parents-"
"Mama," Her tiny finger points at me. "He's my dada." Why does she keep insisting that I'm her father? I mean, do I look old enough to have a two-year-old child?
"Alright, whatever you say, sweetie."
I glance at the time. "Anyway, it's getting late."
"I wanna see the northern lights."
Our eyes widen. The northern lights? "But it's getting really late."
"I don't care. I wanna see them!" She crosses her arms with a pout as my fiancée sighs.
"I want to see them as well," She turns to me. "Astral, didn't you say that you wanted to see what it is?"
"Yes, but-"
Her hands swing mine back and forth with a cute little pout. "Please, dada?" That tone… how can I possibly resist that?
"No." I got to stay strong. After all, how are we going to explain this to my parents?
"Please?"
"No."
"Mommy," She glances at her for help as my fiancée pouts holding my other hand.
"Astral, I wanna see it too."
Oh, now you two are ganging up on me. How is that fair? "Daddy,"
I guess it wouldn't hurt. "Fine."
Their eyes light up as they high-five each other and hug me tightly making my body tense. Just my luck. One affectionate person was enough but here comes along another person. Is the universe out to get me or something?
Liliana's POV:
"Woah…" Her tiny hands reach towards the sky in fascination. "Does this happen often?"
"Yes, it actually happens every night but not as prominent as this." My beloved responds as she grips his hand. What a dazzling sight…
The hypnotic streaks of green, purple, red, and bright pink dance across the starry sky as the water below. Standing at the edge of the high tide line, the emptiness of the beach and the dim quivering lights reflecting the stars on the water give the familiar place an alien feel. Without the presence of the crowds, it is easier to notice the size of the beach itself, and the stretch of sand to the left and right and down towards the water seems vast. The wind carries the sting of sand and the taste of salt as I involuntarily shiver hugging myself. If I knew it would be this cold, I would've brought a jacket of dresses in layers. But, to see this alluring and magical sight is worth it.
"Mommy," Her unique eyes look at me. "Do you know that your wish will come true if you wish upon the northern lights?"
My eyes slightly widen. "Really? Who told you that?"
"Daddy did." I glance at my fiancé. "He said that if beings wish upon the lights, their wishes will come true." Is that true?
"It's a myth made by the people long ago. Once, a woman wished that her husband would return to her safe and sound. Within the next month, her husband returned safely to her." He said looking at the rumbling waves. "Myths like these are a diamond dozen. They are illogical and are for the feeble-minded."
A sigh escapes my lips. "Seriously?"
He glances at me. "It's true. There's no evidence to prove that it was the work of the northern lights."
My hand pokes his shoulder. "You know, not everything in this universe can be backed up by cold hard facts, you do know that, right?"
"Of course, it just so happens to be that I find myths illogical."
Judging from this, he's slowly reverting to his business demeanor. Using facts and logic to justify things. I roll my eyes. "Well, I just so happen to believe that story. Are you calling me feeble-minded too?"
His eyes widen. "You believe that story?"
"Yup."
"But why? It doesn't make any sense. No proof wishing on the lights work." True but…
"There are some things in this universe that can't be explained by logic." One of them is love.
"I believe in this as well!"
"You too?!"
She nods holding his hand. "Why don't you believe that your wish can be granted, daddy?"
"Because it doesn't work."
"If you believe, it will work." She giggles as he ruffles her hair. "Haha! That tickles!"
"It's not that I don't believe it. There are a lot of things that can't be explained by facts and science alone but if you two want to believe that the northern lights can grant your wishes, then go for it." At least he knows that. I direct my gaze upwards, clasp my hands together in front of my chest, and close my eyes. What should I wish for?
My lips curve upwards. I know that my fiancé doesn't remember anything, but I have only one wish if anyone can hear me beyond. Please, all I wish for is his happiness. I don't care if he loves or remembers me. I want him to be happy. His happiness is all that matters and if one day he does remember, that's fantastic but in the meantime, his happiness is all I wish for. Please grant me this tiny wish if anyone can hear me out there.
I stiffen as something soft covers my shoulders. Is this wool? My eyes open as I find his black trench coat draped over my shoulders. Eh? Did he… "Make no mistake," My beloved avoids my gaze looking at the dancing lights. "You seemed cold so I took the liberty of giving you my coat."
I stifle a laugh with the back of my hand. "In other words, you didn't want me to be cold. Which proves that you care for me."
My love looks in my direction then promptly looks away. He's adorable when he doesn't admit his feelings. "Think whatever you want."
I put on his coat properly and wrap my arms around his neck pecking his cheek with a smile. "You care for me."
"You were shivering."
"Still, you care for me."
"As I said, think whatever you want."
A little giggle interrupts us as she hugs my legs. "Mommy, daddy was making a wish too!" Oh?
"Honey, whatcha wish for?" I ask while leaning closer as he gently pushes me away by the forehead.
"If I tell you, it won't come true."
"A little hint won't hurt, right?"
"I'm afraid not. Unless that is if you don't want my wish to come true." What could he possibly wish for?
"Mama," I look down as she spreads her arms out. "Carry me."
"What's the magic word?"
She blinks. "Uh… carry me, please?"
I clap with a laugh. "Wow, already so smart!"
Just as I was about to pick her up a hand stops me. "Don't."
My eyes meet his as he gently picks her up. "Why not?"
"You're pregnant." He explains as she yawns in his chest. "Lifting heavy objects during the first three months is risky."
"But she's not heavy." I point out. "She's light."
"Yes, but you shouldn't lift things unless necessary."
"What is pregnant?" Her small voice chimes in as my hand pats her head.
"It means that she has another life form in her stomach." My fiancé explains as she raises a brow.
"Another being?"
"Mhm."
She turns to me. "Does that mean I will have a brother or sister?"
My lips curve into a smile as I pat her cheek. "In a few months, yes."
"Yay!" Her arms wrap around me as my beloved stabilize her by wrapping his arms around her chest.
"Careful."
"Whoops, sorry, dada!" She pecks his cheek as a minuscule smile appears on his lips. "How many weeks left?
"Well, currently it's been 4 weeks so…"
"A full pregnancy is 40 weeks, so you have 36 weeks to go until your due date."
"And there are 4 weeks in a month, right?"
"Mhm."
She places her hand under her chin furrowing her brows with a pout. She is so adorable! "Eight months?"
We nod. "But why is it so long?"
"These things take time."
"Why can't it happen now?" She whines bouncing a bit as I stifle a giggle. "Oh, and how does the baby get in your stomach?" Uh-oh… My fiancé glance at me as my face heats up. How am I going to explain this to a little girl?
He clears his throat with a cough. "Babies are made when two adults love each other so much that they're able to create a baby." He explains with a red tint on his cheeks as I avoid his gaze. That's one way of putting it.
She tilts her head. "How are you two able to do that?" Why does she ask so many questions? My eyes widen as a tingling sensation course through my stomach. Darn it. These cramps are the worst!
I wince as he puts her down and rushes over to my side. "Are you alright?"
"I'm… fine." I grit my teeth as my hand lays on my stomach. "Just mild cramps is all."
A sigh escapes his lips as he gently rubs my belly making my eyes widen. "This shows your uterus is expanding to accommodate the baby."
A tiny hand hands me a bottle of water. "Mommy, here, this will help."
I shoot her a smile taking the bottle from her hands as she plops herself next to me. "Thanks."
"Is this helping?" A soft voice omits from my fiancé who is massaging my stomach. My lips curve upwards. He's so attentive…
The sharp pain fades a bit as I card through his blue hair. He looks at me with those beautiful eyes of his that radiate concern. He totally cares. He can't lie to me with that gaze no matter what he says. "Liliana?" He's using my name as well! Yes! This is an improvement.
"Your hands are amazing, you know that?" I giggle softly as he continues to massage my stomach. "The pain has lessened quite a bit."
His lips curve into a smile. "I'm glad." A beat of silence passed between us as the wind howls making my mini skirt flow a bit upwards. Uh-oh. My love immediately averts his gaze with a cough as I try to straighten my skirt. Why did I wear a short skirt on such a windy day? "Sorry, I didn't mean to…" He trails off with a hand sliding down his face.
"It's fine, my beloved. You're not a stranger." I take one of his hands as he turns around to meet my eyes with a confuzzled expression. "You're my fiancé."
He coughs with a tint of red seeping on his cheeks. "Ahem, w-we… we should head back now." He stammers as I stifle a laugh. This isn't the first time he saw it though. I guess it's his first time seeing it after his amnesia. No wonder he's flustered.
"Melody-" Her body leans on me with a yawn rubbing her eyes a bit.
"Mmm, sleepy."
Star's POV:
(Flash):
"P-Please," A little girl strapped down to a table as a shadow looms over her. "D-Don't hurt me!" Tears flow down her cheeks as the figure chuckles darkly and comes closer. Her body trembles with beads of sweat dripping down. "D-Don't… s-stay away from me!"
(Flash)
"Star, wake up!"
My eyes snap open to meet mismatched eyes. T-That dream… "Are you okay?" He hands me a cup of water as I fail to grip it without trembling. "Just calm down. Everything's okay now."
Was that a dream or a memory? I gulp clutching the glass of water to steady my shivering hands. It seemed so real. But who was that looming figure? "Ow!" I hiss clutching my head as my vision wavers.
An arm gently lays me back on my pillow and puts the glass on the table with a clink. "I'm assuming a memory has taken place?"
I nod meeting his luminous eyes. That's right… he's an amnesiac as well. "Yup." I stop, biting the inside of my cheek. "What do you do if…" Perhaps it isn't a good idea to ask him. He has other things to worry about with the wedding and all. He raises a brow as my lips curve upwards. "Never mind."
My friend eyes me critically. "Alright," He pulls up the blanket to my chest. "Don't think about it too much, ok? Let the memories return to you naturally." That's probably the best thing I can do right now.
Astral's POV:
I close the door gently with a sigh. What did you see that made you so afraid? "So, did she tell you anything?"
"Unfortunately, no."
"Is she okay?"
"Yes, she's fine now."
"And she didn't tell you anything?" He emphasized as my sister nudges him.
"Derek, you can't force her to tell him what she saw in her dream."
"Your Highness, if I wasn't mistaken, it was a memory, correct?"
I nod. "You're correct. It was a memory and considering her reaction, not a good one at that."
My hazel-eyed friend tilts her head. "How did you know it was a memory?"
My lips curve upwards. "Well, it just so happens that sometimes I get memories in the form of dreams as well so I recognize the symptoms."
"Also," My friend with light brown hair continues. "In the past, I had major panic attacks at night so I also recognized some of the symptoms that she was displaying."
"Oh," My sister chimes in looking at me. "How was your date?"
"Yea, how was it?" He wiggles his brows as I blink in confusion. Huh?
"Tell me," He places a hand on my shoulder. "Did you kiss her?" Kiss?
"No. Zach, why would I do such a thing?"
"You-" My friend points a finger at me as they hold him back. "You have got to be kidding me!"
"Derek, get ahold of yourself," He stops struggling as they let go with a sigh. "You're her fiancé."
"I know, but that doesn't mean that I must kiss her."
My friend groans as she slides her hand down her face. "I swear, you do not know what romance is."
"Ok," My friend with brown hair chimes in. "Did you at least touch her?"
"What… exactly do you mean by that?"
"Her hand," My sister said narrowing her eyes. "Tell us that you touched her hand." Did I touch her hand?
(Flash):
"It's a once in a lifetime chance, baby." She swings my arm back and forth with a pout. "If we miss this, who knows when it will show itself again?"
(Flash)
Well… I nod as their eyes all light up like Christmas lights. Woah… why are they so excited? "He touched her hand!"
"Wohooo!"
"Yes! He initiated physical contact!"
"Good job," He exclaims patting my shoulder with a goofy smile. "I'm proud of you." It's just a touch of the hand though.
"Aren't you all overreacting a bit?" My father walked toward us as they stopped cheering.
"After all," My mother chimes in shooting a smile at me. "It's just a touch on the hand."
"Your Majesties, to us, that is a great accomplishment!"
"Dad, Zach is right," My sister swings her arm around my shoulder as a sigh escapes my lips. "Lucky is slowly getting used to physical touch and affection. The fact that he can touch her hand now proves it." Should I feel insulted at her words right now?
"You act like I can't touch another being or something."
A hand pokes my cheek as she giggles. "Yea, you can't touch her without stiffing up. The fact that you can is an accomplishment, don't you think so?"
"I guess so," I mutter as my hand ruffles her hair.
"And about that little girl that you carried home with you…" My mother trails off as I meet her eyes.
"Oh, her name is Melody and she's two and a half. I'm assuming that she lost her family."
Their eyes widen. "What a poor girl."
"Yeah, so can you two look through the databases and files to locate her family?"
"Of course," My father glances at the clock stifling a yawn. "But that will have to wait until tomorrow."
"Take all the time you need."
"There's another thing that I noticed," My mother chimes in. "Looking at her physical appearance, if I didn't know any better, I would've assumed that she's your daughter."
My eyes widen. "Right," I roll my eyes avoiding her gaze. "Like I would have a two year old daughter."
"Now that you mention it," My father murmurs with a thoughtful look. "She looks likes like your fiancée in many ways. The only difference is her hair color."
"I guess you two have a point…" Why does she look like her so much?
I turn back to my friends and sister who are whispering among themselves. "Ahem," They jumped with giggles. "What are you five whispering about?"
"You need to be more romantic."
"Why's that?"
"Because," My hazel-eyed friend approaches me pecking my cheek as I rub it away. "You're like a block of wood and are you rubbing my kiss away?" Her tone suddenly switches as I gulp.
"No?"
Her eyes narrow as she leans closer. A smirk flashes on her face as she launches herself at him wrapping her arms around my chest. Eh?!
"My love," I stiffen as my eyes widen. Did she just…
"What did you just refer to me as?"
"Mmm! Come on, don't be that way." She whines as I try to get out of her embrace with little success.
"Be mindful of your physical contact with me."
She rolls her eyes with a scoff. "That phrase is overused."
"Still, please be mindful of it."
Her eyes narrow."Come on, let me kiss you!"
"Have you no shame?" I lean away as she comes closer to my cheek.
"You rubbed away my kiss," She said as I try to back away.
"I didn't mean to."
The audience snorts covering their mouths with the palms of their hands. "Don't just stand there, help me!"
"Why should we?"
"You traitors!"
My friend leans closer as I try to wiggle free from her arms. "Just one more kiss."
"No way!"
"Astralllll," A whine escapes as a pair of soft lips connect with my cheek. "That wasn't too bad, was it?"
"I guess it wasn't too bad." A sigh escapes my lips as I meet her gaze. "Can you let go now?"
Her lips curve downwards. "Why should I?"
"Because I say so?" I blink and shake my head a bit. "Is this a deja vu moment?"
Her eyes widen. "You remember?" So she did this on purpose.
"No, I just have a feeling that we did this before."
They glance at each other with nods. "It's settled then,"
"What's settled?"
"I'm going to be your mistress from now on."
My eyes widen as my jaw hangs slightly open. "What?"
My friend blinks with a head tilt. "I'm going to be your mistress." How can she say that?! Doesn't she know embarrassment?
"I refuse."
"Why?"
My father clears his throat with a cough. "Maria, that word has two definitions."
"Huh?"
"The way that you're saying it is rather…" My mother trails off as my friend blinks cluelessly.
"A mistress is a woman having an extramarital sexual relationship, especially with a married man," I explain as she immediately unwraps her arms around my body with her eyes wide.
"What?!" Her head swerves to my friend with a glare. "Zachary, you liar!"
He burst out laughing as she approaches him with a murderous glare. "I can't believe you said that. Hahaha!"
"You will pay!"
His eyes widen as he backs away. "Uh… someone help me?"
"You brought this upon yourself."
"You better run," I whisper as he gulps.
15 minutes later:
"I… give…" He clutches the wall with sweat dripping down his forehead breathing heavily. "Please… forgive me… my friend."
"Hmph," She looks away with her arms crossed. "That's what you get."
"Zach," He helps him up as my friend leans on him for support. "Are you alright?"
"Give me a… moment…" He tries to catch his breath as I stifle a laugh.
"You've got to work on your stamina."
"Shush it, Derek."
"Anyway," She turns back to me. "I'm going to teach you the ways of romance." The ways of romance?
"What do you mean?"
She winks pecking my cheek with a smile. "You will see tomorrow, my student." What is she planning?
