Astrana's POV:

"But mom,"

"No buts."

"Do I really have to attend this event though?" My lips curve into a pout. "It's not like I'm going to be doing anything other than sitting there. Plus, it's my birthday of all days."

Why should I be stuck attending a boring event on the day of my birth? That's just not fair.

"Honey," A sigh escapes her lips. "I get that you don't like these events but you must attend them."

"Why?"

"It's our duty as the royal family." My dad chimes in as I scoff.

That event better end early.

My eyes drift to the two in the corner. They have been suspiciously quiet throughout this whole ordeal.

"Son," My mom calls out as my brother's gaze shifts in her direction.

"Yes?"

"What happened yesterday?"

He blinks blankly for a few seconds. "If you want to reprimand me, I was spending some quality time with my beloved wife."

His gaze shifts towards mine. "Right, Astrana?"

"Right." My face heats up as I remember a certain scene. Ay ya! What am I thinking?! Stop it!

My dad clutches his head, shaking it slowly. "We had something very urgent to discuss with you last night."

"Well," My brother folds his arms over his chest leaning against a pillar. "Sorry I was busy spending time with my wife." His eyes roll as his tone drips in sarcasm. "If it's urgent, I would advise you to spit it out."

My jaw drops at his hostile tone as my dad's expression stands unwavering from his impassive look. Ok. I know that he has a vendetta against him but still, really?! Don't you think that's a bit harsh?

"Brother, don't you think…"

My brows furrow as my sister-in-law rapidly shakes her head with a pleading look in her eyes. Huh? Why is she…?

"Astrana, don't interfere with our conversation."

I shiver at his emotionless tone as I gulp. Did he wake on the wrong side of the bed today?

"Son-"

"Son?" He chuckles shoving his left hand in his jean pocket. "Who's your son? Huh? Where is he?"

What…?

His green and red eyes shut as my brother turns around towards the door. "If this is all you wish to speak about, I'll get going now."

"Your test of life stone is in effect." My father's voice rings throughout the room as I raise a brow.

Test… of… life… stone…? What is that?

My brother freezes mid-step as he swerves around to face my parents. "When?"

"A few days ago."

"A few days ago and now you tell me?!"

"I was going to tell you but you were avoiding me."

"But didn't it already occur once? Why is it occurring again?"

My dad sighs. "That's what I don't get. The last time it happened was when…" He bites his lips. When what?

"I'll figure something out." He said after a moment of silence. "It'll be fine."

"It is not fine, Astral." My mom chimes in. "You know what happens when it flashes right?"

He stays silent as she exhales. "Do you know who that person happens to be?"

Person?

"No."

"Really?"

"Really." His eyes lock with our parents. "And what if I know who that person is? Are you two going to do what you did last time?"

Last time? What happened last time?

"Um… what is the test of life stone?" I ask as all eyes divert to me. I feel like I just asked something highly dumb for some reason.

"It's best if you don't know about it for now." My sister-in-law responds looking at her husband who sports an emotionless face.

"But-"

"Astral, this is very serious. Your-"

"Have I not say that it's not serious?" He raises a brow at my dad. "I'm going to deal with this my own way. No need to interfere, Eliphas."

Andddd there he goes with dad's first name again. I groan smacking my forehead with a head shake. How long is he going to keep this up?

My mom and dad lets out a sigh glancing at each other for a moment. "I'm not going to argue with you about this. Alright then. You can deal with this yourself."

"Thank you."

"Son," My mom speaks up after a minute of silence as he raises a brow. "Happy birthday."

What's up with all this silence? I blink as I look at my sister-in-law. She puts her finger up to her lips as I furrow my brows. Huh?

My brother stares at my mom with a blank face not uttering a single word. Does he not like his birthday or something?

"Thank you, mother." Gold and silver eyes shift to me with an indifferent voice. "Happy birthday, sis. Congratulations on being 19."

Something's off here…

"Uh… thanks! Lucky, aren't you happy for being one year older?"

He blinks muttering underneath his breath as I blink. Is there something he's not telling me? Why is he reacting like this on our birthday?

Liliana's POV:

(Flash):

"Your test of life stone is in effect."

(Flash)

Test of life stone… why is it resonating again? Didn't it already flashed once?

"Do you need something?"

I snap from my thoughts as a guy sits at his desk leaning back in a chair shutting his eyes. "Huh? Oh, no."

A brief moment of silence passes through the room as I bite the inside of my cheek. "Are you okay?"

Darn it! That came out so awkward! Argh! Really, Lily?

The one leaning back in his chair let's out a sigh, opening one of his eyes. "I don't understand why you would think otherwise. Do I not look fine?"

"N-No, no." I stammer with a gulp. "It's just that… uh…" How am I supposed to say it?

"I'm fine." His arms fold in front of his chest looking at me. "No need to worry."

He says that he's fine but…

(Flash):

A sigh escapes his lips. "Your Highness, you may not remember but," His brown eyes stare into my purples. "Miss Astraea's death day is coming soon."

(Flash)

Is he really though? In the past without his memory he would still brood without knowing the reason but now that he remembers…

"I'm serious." My husband stands up approaching me. "I'm fine."

"But-"

A pair of lips peck my cheek. "Don't worry too much, Lily." His hand pats my shoulder with a small smile.

"Anyway, I'm heading out for a walk. Be back later."

"Of course, my love."

Maria's POV:

"How is he taking things?"

My dark haired friend sighs. "Well,"

"Hold on, why are you asking that? Is something the matter with my brother?"

She doesn't know?

"I knew he was acting strange this morning!" She mutters as I let out a sigh. "Him not being happy on his birthday says something."

"You honestly don't know what day it is?"

My gold eyed friend blinks blankly. "Nothing comes to mind."

Really?! How is she so carefree all the time?

"It's her death day." Her sister-in-law chimes in as she blinks.

"Death… day…?"

"Who died?"

My hands smack my forehead with a groan as my friend sighs shaking her head. Who else do you know that's dead?

"Astraea."

She freezes as her jaw slowly drops. "Oh… no wonder he was…"

"Yea,"

"Then why are you with us?" She throws her arms in the air with a perplexed look. "Shouldn't you be by his side?"

"I'm just giving him some space."

"Space? But he-"

"I'm afraid she's right, Astrana." My eyes drift towards her gold's as she closes her mouth. "He needs to process this on his own."

"But I think-"

"We shouldn't interfere with this more than we should."

"Argh! Seriously?!" Her arms fold across her chest. "Why do you people always say that?"

She does have a point.

"Hey!"

"It's the truth."

"Wait a minute," A gasp rings out as her hand covers her mouth. "She died on his birthday?!"

"Unfortunately."

"No way…"

I glance at my dark haired friend as she sports a distant gaze. That look… I bite my tongue. Astral, you can't keep being like this. Can't you see this is hurting her?

Star's POV:

"Come on out."

I should've guessed nothing gets past him.

My friend stands on a ledge looking at the cliff below. The fog and tiny rocks fall precariously off the edge into a sea of spikes below. What on earth is he doing here?

I gulp as I come out from the corner approaching him cautiously. "Hey,"

"Why were you following me?"

"I…" How should I go about this? "I was concerned."

A hollow laugh escapes his lips. "Concerned? About me? What's there to worry about?"

"The fact that you're standing this close to the ledge right now says something." I mutter underneath my breath as he stays silent. Why is he here anyway? And that cliff… if anyone falls down, it would end badly.

"Whatcha think, Star?" His gold and silver eyes drifts down towards the sea of spikes. "If someone were to I don't know accidentally fall down and or jumped from here, would they survive?"

Is he planning to…!

My eyes widened as I cautiously approach him ignoring the tiny rocks giving in and falling into the abyss. "Astral, come back here this instant."

"Why should I?" My friend asks with a minuscule smile. "The cliff looks nice from this angle."

Uh-oh! What should I do?! Judging by his expression…

"You shouldn't stand too close."

"Why? Afraid I might jump?"

"Yes! Now get back here!" I shout as a dry laugh rings throughout my ears.

"Hm…" His feet shifts closer as my heart races. "Now I'm actually curious."

He's not actually going to do it right?

"I swear to god, if you dare jump, I will-"

"You will what?"

He's right. What can I do?

My right fist clenches as my friend lets out a breath. "Look at you," His eyes glance back at me with a laugh. "Why so tense? Do you think that I'm going to jump?"

Better safe than sorry. Especially on this day of all days.

"Relax will you?" My friend gives me a small smile as he approaches me, unclenching my fist gently. "Even if I wanted to, there are people who still need me in this world."

There are people who still need me in this world… ow… that sentence…

My lips form a frown. "Astral…"

"I'm fine."

Her death must've been a shocking experience for him.

"Can I hug you?"

The guy in front of me blinks holding out his arm. "I don't see why not."

My arms surround his chest wrapping him into a warm embrace. Note to self: keep an eye on him these days. Perhaps I'm being paranoid but after he said that sentence…

A flicker of gold causes my eyes to narrow as a key shaped necklace dangles on his neck, partly covered by his shirt. Is that…

Why does it look so much like mine?

"Oh, by the way," A voice snaps me from my thoughts. "Have you seen Katherine anywhere?"

"Ah, she went home for a few days. Some sort of family related thing. I'm not sure."

"No wonder…"

Astral's POV:

"Daddy!"

A small body tackles me wrapping her arms around my legs with a broad smile. "You're back!"

"Yes," My fingers pat her face. "I'm back. Have you been a good girl to your mother?"

"Of course!" Her large eyes turn towards my wife who is sipping a cup of water. "Isn't that right, mommy?"

"Mhm."

Hm… "Darling, are you alright?" I approach the couch as my daughter follows. "You're looking a bit pale."

"I'm fine."

"Daddy, mommy was throwing up in the toilet a few minutes ago." A small body climbs onto my lap as I look to her then to my wife.

"Really?"

She nods. "Yup."

"Sweetheart, I told you not to tell your father."

"But mommy," She whines gripping her hands. "I don't like it when you keep things from dada."

My head slowly shakes with an exasperated sigh. Of course. Why did I even bother to ask?

"Honey, why on earth would you want to keep this a secret?"

My wife gulps as her eyes shifts from side to side. "I… uh… didn't want to bother you with this matter."

Bother me?

"Ok, first of all," My fingers intertwined with hers. "You're my wife. I should be the first one you go to if there is any trouble."

Her amethyst eyes meet mine with a head tilt. "I'm still your wife?"

Huh… what is she implying?

A sigh escapes my lips as I bring her into a gentle hug, letting her head lay on my shoulder. "I don't recall us ever breaking up so yea. You're my beautiful wife, darling."

The person in my arms glance up at me stifling a laugh. "Really?"

"Well yea. Unless you want us to end it." I shrug as her lips curve downwards.

"So you're saying if I call it quits on us," Her hands gesture to the two of us. "You would agree with my decision?"

You dug this hole yourself, honey. Don't blame me for being cruel.

"Yeah."

A gasp rings throughout my ears as she smacks me in the chest. "Baby!"

"What?"

My wife promptly removes my arms with a pout crossing her arms over her chest. "Am I not even worth fighting for?"

Must not laugh.

I stifle a laugh with a cough. "What do you mean by that? If you want to end this then I'll comply. It's not like I'm going to force you to stay with me."

Her eyes narrow. "You don't even want me to stay?"

"Of course I want you, my lovely wife but if you don't want me then letting you go ensures that you can be happy."

"Oh?" She raises an eyebrow. "How will you know that I would be happy?"

"Then why would you question if you're my wife or not?" I retorted holding up her left hand.

Perhaps I should take this a bit further.

"Um… I-"

"If you want to end our marriage so badly," My lips twitch as her eyes widened. I start removing the rings from her left finger. "Let's end it right now."

"What?! You-"

"Give those back this instant!"

"Why?" My lips form a smirk as my hands grip onto them tightly. "I thought you said you weren't my wife."

"I did not say that." She holds out a hand with an expectant look. "Hand them over."

"Hm, let me think for a sec," I stifle a laugh as she pouts cutely holding out her hand. "Hm…" Oh man. It's just so tempting.

My eyes drift to her rings as a thought lights up. I wonder… "Nah,"

"Astral," Her piercing eyes narrow as a murderous aura fills the room. "Give me back the rings!"

"Make me."

Her gem like eyes shifts to our daughter who is currently staring at us in confusion. "Sweetie, can you go outside for a moment?"

"Mommy, don't hurt daddy too much."

My wife smiles at her as she closes the door gently with a click. In an instant, her smile fades and in its place is a frown. Her eyes narrow viscously as I gulp. Perhaps this wasn't the greatest idea.

"My sweet, sweet husband," Her lips curve into a smile, holding out her hand as she approaches me. "Give me my rings back."

That… look…

"Why?"

"Because I'm your wife."

Sorry.

"Not anymore."

Oh no. I feel so guilty in saying that. My stomach feels like it's getting punched by someone as my wife's eyes widened. Her lips start to quiver as I gulp. Perhaps I have gone a bit too far with this…

"Honey, I didn't mean-"

"Fine! Then you're not my husband then." Her arms fold over her chest with an icy glare as I bite my tongue.

She's not serious, is she? "If you would excuse me," Her feet shuffles towards the door with a hair flip. "I'm off to look for my beloved husband."

"But I am your husband."

"You?" Her luminous purple eyes meet mine with a giggle. "Stop joking. You're not my husband. You're my best friend."

Best friend huh? Did she really just friend zoned me?!

"Best friend?" I raise an eyebrow approaching my gorgeous wife who stands still with a smile. "Is that what you see me as, beautiful?"

"Mhm!" A hand pats my shoulder. "You're my bestie."

"But I don't want to be just a friend."

"That's why you're my best friend, Astral." Her gazes fixes onto the door. "Anyway, I gotta find my husband."

My arms wrap around her waist pulling her towards me as a gasp escapes her lips. "That's not what I mean, Lily."

Her back touches my chest as I envelope her body tightly. "What do you mean then?"

Is she going to make me say it? Whatever. I was the one who went too far with this anyway.

"I want to be your beloved husband, my dear."

"I clearly remember you said that you didn't." An audible whisper rings through my ears as I tighten my hold.

"Who wouldn't want to be a husband to an intelligent, kind, and beautiful lady such as yourself?"

"You apparently."

A sigh escapes my lips. "Baby, I'm sorry. Don't be mad."

"Who's your baby?"

"Ah come on, it was a joke."

"Hmph!" She crosses her arms with a pout.

Got to think of something to please her… but what?

"Darling," My wife frowns as I spin her around to meet my eyes. "I'm sorry, alright? I didn't mean it that way."

"What do you mean huh?"

"My gorgeous, kind, intelligent, eternal wife, please forgive me." My hands grip hers. "I was in the wrong."

"Puh-lease," A scoff escapes her lips. "You're The Prince. When are you ever wrong?"

Looks like she's really furious. Drastic measures are about to be taken.

"Baby," My lips curve downwards as we stare at each other. "What will it take for you to forgive me? I'll do anything."

Her amethyst eyes light up as a wicked smile curves on her pretty lips. "Anything?"

Uh-oh… is it too late to run out the door?

"As long as it doesn't ruin my reputation or humiliate me in any way."

I'm screwed. Definitely screwed.

Liliana's POV:

This is the life!

"A little to the left." I sigh as my husband massages my shoulders. "Yup. Right there."

What more can I want? Hm…

My eyes open as a smirk forms. "Astral, feed me a grape."

"Get it yourself." He mutters lowly as I raise a brow.

"What was that?" I ask with a slight edge as he chuckles picking up a grape.

"Nothing. Nothing at all my darling wife. Here, have a grape!" He plops it into my mouth as the sweetness of it causes my lips to curve upwards.

"Thank you, my dear husband."

"You're welcome, gorgeous."

"Hey um…" A pair of eyes look at us in confusion. "What's going on here…?"

"Brandon, hey!" I focus my eyes on his blue's with a grin. "Haven't seen you in a while. How have you been?"

"I've been fine." His hand scratches his head blinking a bit at my husband who is now feeding me a slice of orange. I am loving this! If only he can do this everyday.

My friend's eyes drifts to the wall clock then back to us. "Lily, can I borrow him for a second?"

"Why?"

"It's something important."

"Important?" My husband chimes in as I glare at him.

"Who said you can speak?"

He was about to protest but shuts his mouth with a mumble as I hold in a laugh. I can't believe he's taking this so seriously. Hahaha!

My friend blinks as my daughter walks up to us with a yawn. "Mommy, daddy, it's almost time for the party."

Time sure flies. It's already been an hour.

"Ok, sweetie!"

"A little downwards." He moves his hands a bit down as I lean back to peck his cheek. "My, my. What a fantastic servant you're being, my beloved."

A sigh escapes his lips with a nod as he keeps massaging my shoulders.

"Lily,"

"Yes?"

"Can I borrow your… servant… for a bit?"

Hm…

"Sure," My hand waves as gold and silver eyes widened. "But you are still not off the hook just yet."

"Seriously?!"

My eyes drift towards his with a neutral expression as he covers his mouth. "Did you just complain?"

The guy in my field of vision shakes his head, looking over to his friend for an escape. Hahaha! I should do this more often!

"You're dismissed."

Astral POV:

At the banquet:

So boring… I cover a yawn with a hand shaking my head a bit. My daughter is so lucky. She gets to run off and do her own thing while I get to sit here and listen to people talk.

"Honey, are you okay?"

"Yeah," My eyes drift to the woman next to me. "I'm fine."

If what Brandon say is true, my fated calamity must be here somewhere. I got to keep a close eye out for them.

"How much longer will this take?" My wife whispers with a sigh.

"I don't know." At this rate, it's going to probably take all evening. "If you're bored, you can leave if you you want."

She raises an eyebrow with a giggle. "And leave you all alone here? No way am I doing that."

"Why not? You have a legitimate excuse to go."

"You think I don't know that?" Her eyes roll as a hand holds mine. "But still, I'm not leaving you to suffer alone."

"What a kind and considerate wife I've got."

"I know right? You should be nice to me more often."

Oh?

"Since when am I not good to you, my beautiful darling?" I ask raising an eyebrow as she giggles, covering her mouth.

"You know, just saying that's all."

"Right…"

I place my hand in my pocket as a cold thin piece of metal runs over my fingers. Astraea… My smile fades letting out as breath. Why am I here on a day like this?

A maid in a veil walks up to me gracefully as she sits down in a kneeling motion. Her hands delicately picks up the teapot and pours it in my cup. Why am I like this? I have a wife yet why can't I stop thinking about her? Does this make me a bad husband? Is this a form of cheating?!

I yank my hand towards myself with a hiss as scolding hot tea left my hand with a red blister. What on earth?!

"Baby, are you alright?" My wife immediately grabs my hand blowing on it while shooting deadly glares at the maid.

"You got some nerve!"

"Y-Your H-Highness," Her eyes widened as she cowers lowering her head. "I-I didn't mean t-to-"

"You burnt my husband."

"I-I'm s-sorry." An expression of fear etched into her face as I sigh.

"This is unforgivable. Guards-"

"Darling, darling, I'm fine." I look at my hand which is now red. "It's just an accident."

"But-"

"It was an accident. Plus, we don't want to make a scene here of all places."

I glance at the conversations at the other end of the room as my wife crosses her arms.

My eyes drift to the woman in front of the table kneeling in fear. Her fingers grip each other tightly as I shake my head slowly.

"Miss,"

"Y-Your Highness, I-I'm sorry."

"It's quite alright. It was an accident."

"No it's not. I deserve death."

Death? Always so dramatic.

A chuckle escapes my lips as I pick up the tea cup. "It's really okay, miss. Don't worry about it. Mistakes happen."

The woman in front of me gulps as I hold out a hand. "Here, get off from the hard ground."

She lifts her head as stunning pink eyes make my heart stop dead in it's tracks. Those… eyes… why do they…

Liliana's POV:

Those eyes…

My eyes widen as she rises to her feet. Her long, wavy blue hair frames her face as she curtesy.

"Thank you, Your Highness."

She… why does look so much like… I glance at the guy sitting beside me. His eyes focuses on hers as if she was the only being present in the room. A longing expression crosses his face as he slowly rises to her level.

That… look…

"Don't worry about it." His hand touches her to help her up. "It could've happened to anyone."

"Are you sure?" She bites her lip with a hesitant expression. "Does it still hurt? I can-"

A hand reaches out to grab my husband's burnt hand as he snaps from his daze and quickly lifts it up with a smile. "I'm fine. It doesn't really hurt anymore. Just a bit red that's all."

"Thank goodness." She exhales in relief then looking at the clock with her eyes widen then turns back to my husband.

"Your Highness," She curtesy. "Please excuse me."

Her feet starts to step back as a hand grabs hers. "Wait!"

Her pink eyes look into his with a head tilt. "Is something the matter, Your Highness?"

"I…" He trails off locking eyes with hers as my chest clenches. That look… no doubt about it… but why? Why does she look so similar to her?

"Daddy!" A child runs up to hug his legs with a smile. Her eyes drift to the maid with the veil covering the lower half of her face. "Who's this?"

The guy in front of me reluctantly let go of her hand, rubbing his eyes with his index and thumb. "Ah, sorry about that. I must've been mistaken but you look a lot like a person from my past that's all."

She blinks as a minuscule smile curves on her lips. "No need to apologize, Your Highness." Her eyes glance at the clock once more. "If you don't have anything else, please excuse me."

"Yes, you're dismissed."

His gold and silver eyes follows her as she picks up the tray and leaves. Even though it's the top half of her face… why does she look so much like Astraea?

My husband blinks a few times running his eyes letting out a breath as he sits back down in his chair. "I must be seeing things."

Ok… this isn't all bad. We only saw the top half of her face. Maybe the bottom half will be different. Yeah! Or maybe she's just a person who looks like her. Yeah. That's got to be it.

I glance at the guy next to me as he places a hand on his chin in deep thought. As long as he doesn't see her again, it'll be fine. Yes. It's fine. This is totally fine.

Astral's POV:

Am I going insane? My eyes drift towards the door once again. At first I thought she was Astrid for a moment but no. Even though it was only the top half of her face… those eyes…

My eyes widened. Did the soul gathering lamp really work? No no no no. That's ludicrous! If it did work… why does she not recognize me? Not to mention… I bite my lip as my fingers touch the bracelet in my pocket. Her eyes hold no recollection of me.

"Honey,"

"Yes?"

I glance next to me to find my wife looking down fiddling with her fingers. "Was that…"

My chest clenches as I look back towards the door. "I…" Could she just be a look alike? I mean there is that possibility…

"I…" But then again… "I don't know."

If she really is a look alike… why? Why did she have to show up now? Should I confirm her identity?

"Mommy, who was she?"

"No one sweetie," Her hands stroke through her long locks. "You don't have to concern yourself with her."

That's right. Oh man. Why am I like this? I have a wife and daughter. I shouldn't be thinking about her. I absolutely cannot keep thinking about her.

My hand intertwines with the person next to me as she looks up. "Darling-"

"You don't have to say it." An audible whisper rings through my ears. "I get it."

She does?

"If you want to chase after her, go." Her fingers slip from mine. "I won't stop you."

She…

The woman beside me places her hand on her lap with a gulp. "I'll cover for you. Don't worry about it."

"Why do you think I want to go see her?" I ask after a few minutes as she blinks rapidly.

After all this time, do you still not get my intentions?

"I'm not going anywhere, my darling."

"But… don't you…" Her eyes drift towards her lap. "Don't you want to confirm her identity?"

Well… I wanted to but it would be best to look through her files first.

I let out a breath shaking my head. "Yes but, I just can't just leave my beautiful wife here all alone, can I?"

Amethyst eyes look up at me in disbelief as she just stares at me. Really? Do you have to look that shocked? What did you expect me to do?

Maria's POV:

"I know right?" I roam the halls with my green eyed friend letting out a breath.

"And especially he did that to her as well."

"Men these days are awful creatures."

"Tell me about it." She rolls her eyes. "It's true not all men are like that but there are some who are just ugh."

"Mhm."

I can't believe he had the audacity of… My eyes narrow as a girl in a maid's outfit walks past us.

"Hold it."

The woman freezes as she kneels before me. "My Lady, you have a request?"

My friend blinks. "Uh… Maria, what are you doing?"

Why does she seem so familiar?

"Lift your head."

She lifts her head as my bright pink eyes meet with my hazels. Those eyes… she is… I blink rapidly rubbing my eyes. No. That's not possible. She died two years ago.

"Why are you wearing a veil?"

"My lady," She kneels bowing her head. "I'm afraid I'll frighten others with my appearance."

Frighten because of her appearance?

"What do you-"

"There you are." A middle aged lady sighs in relief as she kneels in front of us.

"Lady Maria, Lady Star, I apologize if she offended you in any way."

My friend blinks. "Please rise both of you."

They rise as the older woman eyes the lady in front of me. "Thank you."

"Priscilla, what did you do? I told you to be careful!"

Priscilla? So she's not her…

"I'm sorry, Head Maid." She hangs her head.

"When we get back, I'll-"

"I think you misunderstand." I interrupt her as they look at me. "She didn't do anything wrong. I was just asking her something."

"Whew, what a relief."

Her blue eyes drifts to her pink eyes once again. "Don't think you're off the hook just yet, missy."

She flinches as a nervous giggle escapes her lips. Why do you look so similar to her though?

Liliana's POV:

Evening:

A high pitched wail rings throughout the palace as I cover my ears. My husband rocks the girl in his arms glancing at the clock.

"What on earth is going on?" I shout through her screams as he meets my gaze.

"I don't know. She just started crying!"

How strange…

The guy in front of me bounces her gently biting his lip with a flustered expression. "What's wrong, Livi?"

"Are you hungry?" He materializes a bottle as she swerves her head, arching her back. "Do you need a diaper change?"

Her cries become louder as my friends all cover their ears inching back a few steps. She was fine about an hour ago. Why is she crying now?

"Son, why is she crying so much?"

"I honestly don't know, mother." He hums gently patting her back. "I…"

His gold and silver eyes widened as he feels her forehead. "What the-"

"Love, what's wrong?"

"Why is she…"

Why is she what?

"Someone call the doctor ASAP."

The doctor?

My hand touch her forehead as I snap my head towards him. "Why is she so warm?"

The baby in his arms squirm in discomfort as tears drip down her cheeks.

"She's running a fever." His feet shifts towards the bassinet as he starts to place her down gently.

A fever?! How did that happen?

I take the remote and turn on the ac. Hopefully that will cool her down a bit.

"Someone fetch me a cold towel." He holds out his hand as my friend hands it to him.

"Don't worry, the doctor will be here soon."

My husband cautiously wipes the wet towel across her forehead and face as her cries subdue into tiny whimpers.

I summon up a handheld fan. Better than nothing I suppose.

"God darn it!" My friend shouts looking into the doorway. "Where is that doctor?"

"Zach, calm yourself."

"Star, you-"

"Your Majesties, Your Highnesses," A voice rings out as we turn to see him bow.

"No need for formalities." My mother-in-law said as he stands.

"Doctor, she's running a fever." My husband explains as he hurries to the baby taking her pulse.

A gasp escapes his lips as he kneels. "Your Highness, this is no ordinary fever."

"Meaning?"

"I theorize this fever is caused by a type of poison."

"Poison?!" My sister-in-law shouts as he nods.

"Is it harmful?"

He bites his lips with a conflicted expression. "Yes, Princess Consort. It can have detrimental effects on a being especially on a baby."

"Is there a cure?"

"I… um… y-yes but…"

Who would go and poison a baby?! Are they insane?!

I clench my fist tightly. "Doctor-"

"You must find a way to save her." A calm voice rings out next to me.

"Of course, Your Highness but…"

"Stop stammering."

"It requires two very important ingredients."

"What is it?"

He gulps glancing at the king and queen the back at my husband's gaze. "One is her biological mother's blood."

My eyes widened. "Her… blood?!"

"Yes,"

Her biological mother… My eyes drift to the guy next to me who is displaying a neutral expression. "And the second ingredient?"

"Y-Your blood, Your Highness."

"What?! His blood?!" I shout as he flinches lowering his head.

"Y-Yes, Princess Consort."

"What ingredient is that? Why do you need his-"

"Your Highness, you might not know but His Highness's blood has healing properties."

Healing… properties…?

My head snaps towards my husband with a look of disbelief. What? How does that make sense?

"Then why do you need her mother's blood?"

"Your Royal Highness," He bows. "Just His Highness's blood isn't enough. Although his blood has healing properties and can successfully fight the poison, there has to be a causal link between him and Miss Olivia."

Oh…

"But still-"

"Alright." He holds out a hand. "Take it."

"Are you insane?!" I yell at my husband. "This is your blood we are talking about. How can you-"

"It's only a bit of blood, darling." His gold and silver eyes drift towards the bassinet. "I'll be fine."

"You-"

"I'm not going to argue about this matter." His eyes narrow at mine as he picks up his cell. "I'm saving her no matter what the cost might be."

"Hello? Sapphire?"

Sapphire?

"Hey, it's me."

I can hear a feminine voice ring out the other end as his eyes widened. "No, no, listen to me. I need you at the palace right now."

"Yes, instantly."

He bites his lips clutching his head with a sigh. "I… just come to the palace ASAP. I'll explain everything later."

"Don't worry. I'll personally escort you."

What? I blink as my friend nudges me in the arm. "Psst, do you hear this?"

"Crystal." My eyes narrow as he paces around the room. The fact that he has her number…

"It's no trouble at all." He grabs his coat from the closet. "Alright, meet you in 10."

And the fact he knows where she lives…

His phone snaps shut with a frown as the baby whimpers yet again. "Livi," A hand grips hers. "I'll make sure she gets what she deserves."

She? Does he know the person who did this?

"Baby, I'm-"

"No need to explain." I hold up a hand. "Just go."

A look of shock flashes on his face follows a smile. "Thanks."

20 minutes later:

"What?!" A woman with blue hair screeches. "How on earth did she get poisoned?!"

"I'm sorry. It was my mistake."

A breath escapes her as she sighs. "How could I blame you for this? Anyway, what can I do?"

"I need a pint of your blood."

Her blue eyes stare at my beloved's blinking blankly. "My blood?"

"Yes,"

She looks at her hands in deep thought then stretches it out. "Take it."

"You don't even know why I need it." He asks in shock as she giggles.

"Considering the situation, my blood must be a key ingredient to fight this poison and knowing you, you must have a reason for asking such a thing, right?"

"Correct as usual."

My love's eyes drift towards the doctor as he draws a pint of blood from her body, placing it on a Petri dish.

"Your Highness,"

My husband rolls up his sleeve, placing his arm on the table. "Take it."

The doctor's eyes drift towards the king and queen as they nod slowly letting out a sigh. "My apologies, Your Highness."

Just like last time, he draws his blood and places it on a Petri dish. I bite my lip as I saw the blood on the table. He's willing to sacrifice his precious blood just to save her…

"Now what?"

He bows once again. "Your Highness, you need to direct your power into Lady Sapphire. That way, the poison can be neutralized."

If that's the case… will she be able to handle such immense prowess? If not careful… they could fall into their demonic states…

"Astral-"

"Is there another way?"

"Unfortunately, there is not."

The woman next to him clenches her fist with a determined spark. "Let's do it."

"No way."

"But-"

His eyes lock onto hers. "If we do that, you can get seriously injured. Not to mention in the worse case scenario, die."

"You think I don't know that? But," Her eyes drifts to the crying baby in the bassinet. "It's the only way to neutralize her poison."

"Sapphire-"

"I'm her mother." Tears prickle in the corner of her eyes. "Even if I have to, I would gladly risk my life for her."

My eyes widened at her statement. Sapphire…

Hands grip my husband's as she kneels in front of him. "Please Astral, I beg you. You must save her."

"Stand up." His hand helps her up as she dry her tears.

My beloved clutches his forehead with a conflicted expression biting his lips as he lets out a soft sigh. "Alright."

Her eyes light up like a star as she hugs him tightly. "Really?! Thank you. Thank you so much!"

A chuckle escapes his lips as he pats her back. "No need to mention it."

Astral's POV:

"Ready?"

My friend stands in front of me with a nod of determination. "Ready as I'll ever be."

I got to be careful. This might harm me and her as well.

My eyes drift towards the crying baby in the bassinet as I can sense her life force weaken rapidly. This is the only way.

I take a breath as we place our palms together. The power radiates from my abdomen as a blue hue enters her palms circulating throughout her body. "Shut your eyes."

Her blue eyes slowly shuts as I direct the pints of blood to the girl in the bassinet, placing them in her mouth. Focus.

"Sapphire, listen to me." My eyes shut as I increase the energy. "Clear your mind. Don't think of anything or else we will both fall into our demonic states."

"Ok."

Focus.

(Pulse)

(Flash):

"Astral," A girl calls out in the shadows. "You did this."

A voice echos as I shut my eyes tighter. What on earth? That voice…

"You did this…"

The girl reveals herself from the darkness. Her bright pink gem-like eyes look straight at me. "You caused me to die."

"You did this. Why didn't you save me?"

Don't talk.

"You were there." Her eyes narrow as she slowly approaches me. "I you could've saved me but why?"

"Why didn't you?!"

I shut my eyes tighter. This isn't real. My mind's playing tricks on me. Yea, that's right. My mind is playing with me. I got to focus my energy.

"Tell me, why?" Her eyes fill with tears as I clench my teeth.

Don't respond.

"Tell me!"

Don't you dare talk back, Astral!

Her eyes grow lifeless as a dark chuckle emanates from her lips. "I'll never forgive you."

"I…" My heart cracks as I grit my teeth.

I got to get out of here! I can feel my power flowing throughout my body as all is quiet.

(Flash)

Made it out. Phew.

"Sapphire, whatever you see or hear in your mind. Don't respond."

"Got it."

Its about time.

"We're at the peak."

"Ready?"

"Yes."

I can feel my power entering her body at a rapid pace as she holds her palm out to her child. The child glows in a blue hue as her cries start to subdue. The poison starts to disappear as the person in front of me opens her eyes.

And done.

"Are you okay?"

"Yea," Her eyes drifts to her daughter who is sleeping with a faint smile. "I'm fine."

The woman in front of me sways a bit. Uh-oh. I grip her shoulders firmly as her head lays on my shoulders.

"Are you alright?"

"I'm… fine." A weak voice answers me a moment later. "Just lightheaded, that's all."

I can feel a hand pushing against my shoulder trying to stop leaning on me. Her eyes shut tightly grimacing. "I apologize for-"

"Don't apologize." She collapses on me yet again shutting her eyes tightly. The lights shut off with a wave of my hand. "I don't mind."

A murderous aura radiates from a being as my eyes meets hers. I subtly shake my head as she shoots me me a glare with a hand across the throat. Seriously?

"I'm assuming the poison is neutralized?" A voice snaps me from my thoughts as I look downwards on my shoulder.

"Completely gone."

"Do you know who did it?"

Should I tell her? Um…

"I'll make sure to find the culprit. Don't worry."

Sorry. The less people know about this, the better.

"I trust you." A smile curves on her lips as her eyes drifts to the sleeping baby. "And thanks… for everything that you've done to help us to this point. I really appreciate it."

My eyes widen as she plants a peck on my cheek. I shake my head slowly. "I'm just helping out a friend in need. No need to thank me."

Liliana's POV:

Friend?

My eyes drift towards the peaceful baby laying in her bassinet as her mother holds her gently in her arms with a fond smile. "Thank goodness you're okay."

Giggles escape her lips as a tiny hand grips hers with a cute little smile. My husband comes up to them folding his arms with a pleased expression.

"Of course she's fine. The palace has maximum security. Not even a fly can go in."

Her eyes roll with a giggle. "Yet she somehow still got poisoned."

"Well," He rubs the back of his neck with a sheepish smile. "There are some flaws."

Some flaws? Please. Says the guy that almost got assassinated in childhood on many occasions.

"Your Highness," She kneels as his eyes widened.

"What are you doing? Stand up."

Her blue eyes stare at his while biting her lip. "About the situation regarding-"

"I promised to help you, did I not?" His hand touch hers helping her rise. "Just give me a few more days to sort some things out."

Huh? What are they speaking of?

"Thank you." She grips his hands. "Thank you so much, Astral."

He sighs. "How many times do I have to say it? You don't need to thank me."

"I'm sorry for any inconveniences she gave you."

"Inconveniences?" A chuckle escapes his lips as he glances at me. "I guess that's one way to put it."

My face heats up as my mind flashes back to a particular memory. No no no no no! Stop it, Lily! What was I thinking chaining him up like that? Was I crazy?!

"Anyway," My husband glances at her. "Don't apologize. I'm happy to be her guardian for the time being."

Her guardian…

(Flash):

"H-How many times do I have to say it? She's not mine!"

(Flash)

So that means… My heart stops as my eyes widened. He was really saying the truth…

"Now you believe him?" My friend leans next to my ear as I nod.

"I knew he wasn't a cheater."

Gold and silver eyes meet mine as I stiffen not meeting his gaze. Uh-oh…

"Oh," The woman in front of him summons up a jade pendent. "I want to-"

"Considering your current situation, keep it for the time being."

Her eyes widen. "B-But-"

"It's not a big deal. When this gets all sorted out, you can return it to me."

A smile flashes on her lips as my husband nods. What situation are they talking about? What's with all the secrecy?

20 minutes later:

"Astral,"

"Hm?"

"Who's Sapphire?"

He sits on the couch sipping a cup of tea. "A friend."

"What I mean is-"

"Eliphas," My husband places his cup down with a clink. "May I ask you something?"

There he goes again.

"Of course, ask me anything."

"If I killed someone by accident," His eyes widened. "What would you do?"

Killed someone by accident?

"Son," My mother-in-law gasps. "You didn't actually kill a person, did you?"

My husband waves a hand with a scoff. "As if I could accidentally kill someone." He rolls his eyes. "This is purely hypothetical."

Yea. He wouldn't kill someone accidentally. It would be on purpose or self defense.

"Oh thank goodness." She lets out a breath of relief.

His gaze drift back to his father. "That depends on the situation."

"What if it was self defense?"

The king's tongue clicks as he places a hand on his chin. "If you can prove it was because of self defense, you would just be punished."

"But if I can't," His gold and silver eyes narrow. "It's an automatic death sentence."

"Yes."

Even he, the prince, isn't exempt from this rule. If anything, he's being hold to a higher standard.

"Are you sure there isn't another way?"

His father raises an eyebrow. "Unless you have a witness who can testify for you."

"I'm assuming family, friends, and significant others can't attest?"

"That's right."

"Wait," Gold eyes stare at his gold and silvers. "Why are you asking about this? Did you kill somebody?!"

A smirk crosses his lips. "I don't know. Did I? Did I not?"

"Brother!"

"Relax, little sis." He laughs picking up his cup once again. "I would never kill anyone without a reason to."

"For some reason that's not making me feel any better." She mutters as I shake my head.

Its this time of year again.

5 minutes later:

I shut the door as I plop myself on the bed next to my husband. Why did he ask that? He said it was hypothetical but… for some reason it doesn't seem quite right.

"Honey,"

"Yes, handsome?"

He faces me biting his lip. "Can I sleep on the couch for tonight?"

My eyes widened as his words. Uh-oh… he wants to sleep on the couch… if I learned one thing from this marriage, it's when he wants to rest elsewhere…

"Did I do something wrong?" I bite the inside of my cheek. Means he's either angry, disappointed, or needs spaces to think about something. "Was it something I did?"

"Why would you think that?"

I look down fiddling with my fingers. "It's just… usually when you're mad or disappointed with me, you would sleep elsewhere…"

"You're too cute, you know that?"

A pair of lips peck my forehead as I look into his luminous eyes. "My darling wife, you didn't do anything wrong."

"Really?" I blink rapidly as he dries my tears with his thumbs. Darn it! These hormones are messing me up! Seriously?!

"Really. You haven't done anything wrong." He pauses with a sigh. "Me on the other hand…"

Huh?

"I'm not mad or disappointed. I just need space to think for a moment if that's alright with you."

So it wasn't something I did?

My lips curve upwards. "Baby, you don't need to ask me for space."

"I just wanted to-"

I silence him with an index finger. "I know but regardless, I'm your wife, not your boss. You don't need to ask for permission."

His eyes widened as a pair of arms pull me into a tight embrace. "I love you, you know that?"

"Love you too."

A brief silence passes us as a nagging question pops up in my mind. "Gorgeous?"

"You're wondering what's on my mind, right?"

"Yea," It's probably that maid we met at the event.

He sits up clutching his head. "I…"

"Ice cube?" I sit up next to him gently touching his arm.

My husband's eyes meet mine with a look of guilt. "I'm sorry."

What?

"What are you-"

"I know I shouldn't." His eyes drifts down not meeting mine. "I shouldn't be thinking of… her at a time like this. Especially when I already have you."

Oh… so he…

"I…" His lips purse. "I'm-"

"Why are you telling me this?" I whisper. "Why? You could've lied and kept this to yourself. Why would you tell me this?"

"If I don't, I feel like I'll be lying to myself. Lying to you. Making you think that I…" He trails off with his eyes shifting. "The last thing I want is for us not to trust each other with this relationship."

Astral…

My teeth clenched as I grip my fingers together. "I know I will never replace her in your heart. I know that but-"

"That's right. You will never replace her."

Ow.

Tears start to drip down my cheeks as it becomes increasingly harder to breathe. I already know this but why does it hurt much more when he says it?

A pair of arms wrap around my body. "You will never replace her because I never once saw you as a replacement, my beautiful wife."

W-What?

I gulp choking back the tears prickling in the corners of my eyes. "I-I'm not a replacement for her?"

"Of course not! You're my wife. No one can ever replace you or are you a replacement for anyone."

But he still loves her… no. I shouldn't be thinking like this. I'm not a replacement for her. That's good enough.

"Why did you ever think you were a replacement?"

(Flash):

Tears blur my vision as I snap yanking my hand from his grasp glaring at the man who is still asleep. My throat locks as my mouth dries up. "I… am… not… a… replacement," An audible whisper escapes my lips as I cover my mouth.

"I'm not a replacement for her, Astral!" My vision wavers as I sniffle. "I'm your wife that you legally married."

(Flash)

Best not to let him know about that incident.

"I…" But what am I supposed to say?

"Regardless of the reason," My husband tilts my head to meet his eyes. "I can say confidently that I have never saw you as a replacement for her. It's like how she can never be a replacement for you, you can never be a replacement for her because you are you, Lily."

No one can replace me? Not even if she was alive right now?

I hug him tighter burying my head in his neck. "Why do you always make me cry all the time?"

"Heyyyyy!"

"It's the truth." Tears drip down his black shirt as I sniffle. "You keep making me shed tears."

"Good or bad?"

I smack his head gently with a pout. "Both." My arms fold over my chest. "I swear, before this, I didn't used to cry as much."

"Sure you didn't."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

A little mischievous smirk crosses his lips. "Ha, I still remembered when you clung onto me bawling like a baby when-"

I slam my hand on his lips as my face grows exponentially warm. Why must he bring that up?!

"I was young."

"Uh-huh…"

Gold and silver eyes stare into mine as my fingers trace his cheeks. I wonder…

"Astral,"

"Hm?"

Should I?

"Happy birthday."

His smiling demeanor switches into a frown as a soft breath escapes his lips. "Honey,"

"I know you don't want to hear it but," My voice lowers into a whisper as I lean my forehead on his. "It's your birthday."

"Darling,"

"You should be happy not all mopey and sad."

"How…" His tone lowers a bit as a hand clenches. "How can I be happy on this day of all days?"

"Astral…"

If only there were some way for him to enjoy the day of his birth…

"It's not like I don't want to be happy," The man in front of me shuts his eyes. "I really want to be happy but I just… can't…" My eyes widen as he opens his eyes showing some tears glistening. "I… it hurts too much…"

My heart hammers as more tears leak down his cheeks onto the bed. "I'm sorry," He sniffles blinking rapidly leaning away from me. "I shouldn't be-"

"Why are you apologizing?" I gently hold his hand. "There's nothing you should be apologizing for, love. I'm your wife. It's absolutely ok to cry in front of me."

He stays silent. How long has he gone without shedding tears? Why is he restraining himself from doing so? "Astral," My thumb wipes a tear off his cheek as I pull his body into a hug. "My beloved husband, if you want to cry, then cry. I'm not judging if that's what you fear."

His grip tightens around my back. "That's not it."

"Then what is it?" I ask stroking his short hair between my fingers. "Why don't you ever let anyone see your tears? Why don't you rely on anyone or let them help you?"

Would it kill him for others to see him cry? Or to depend on an individual more often?

"I…" His voice cracks as I feel a wetness on my neck. "I'm sorry. I…"

"Stop apologizing." My hands grip his shoulders staring at him in the eyes. "You have done nothing wrong so stop saying sorry."

His head buries itself in my neck as he lets out a mumble. "Thank you."

Thank you? Why is he saying that?

"Thank you for always being here for me." He gulps cracking his voice a bit. "I don't think you understand how grateful I am to have you in my life."

My heart thumps quicker at his words.

"Thank you. Thank you so much."

I rub his back shifting closer to him. "You don't need to thank me." I'm your wife. I'm supposed to be here for you.

"Please don't ever leave me alone."

My eyes widen as a figure trembles against mine. His soft child-like voice radiates through my ears. Why would he…

"S-Stay with me, Lily. I-I beg you," Tears drip down my neck as he stifles a sob. "I… I-I know it may be selfish of me b-but please, s-stay with me." A little cough escapes his lips as I pull him closer. "N-No matter h-how I p-push you away, please, d-don't leave me."

My chest clenches as my vision starts to waver. Never have I ever seen him like this before…

Labored breathing rings throughout the room with a whimper. "S-Stay by my side. I… I don't want to be alone anymore. I…" His figure shivers even more as I hold him tighter clenching a fist. "P-Please, d-don't leave me with no one to d-depend on. N-Not like b-back then."

Back then? What exactly is he speaking about? I was always by his side when I had the chance.

"Astral," I shut my eyes laying my head on his shoulder. "I will never leave you, my love. You can try to push me away all you want but I will always be here for you."

A hiccup escapes his lips. "R-Really?"

My head nods as I tighten my hold on his body. "Yes. No matter what you do in the future, I'm your wife. I will be there in your time of need."

My husband sniffles once again. "W-What i-if… what if you…"

"Yes?" I run my fingers through his hair. "What if I what?"

"I-If one d-day… y-you learn l-less than i-ideal things about me…" Less than ideal? As in what way? "W-Will you leave me then? W-Will you be scared? W-Will you think less of m-me?"

My eyes widen as he curls into my body sobbing like a child. His cries pierce my chest as new tears bubble in my eye sockets. Astral…

(Flash):

"It's not my place to say."

"But-"

"He'll tell you once the time is right." The Queen purses her lips gripping her throne firmly. "But please Liliana, don't ask him any questions about his recent disappearance. Don't question his change in attitude."

I frown playing with my fingers. "But… he seems so lifeless…"

"Lily," Gold eyes soften as she looks at me. "My son's… currently dealing with something from his past."

"His… past?"

The woman in front of me nods letting out a breath. "No matter which angle you look at it, it's my fault. I should've protected him and prevented that from happening."

Protected? What from happening? Huh?

"Your Majesty," I curtesy once more. "I-"

"I know you're his best friend and the one who is closest to him." She approaches me holding my hand. "I beg you, bring him back to his old self. Bring my son back to me."

(Flash)

His figure curls up with me as a strangled cry flies into the air. He shuts his eyes tightly as he hugs his knees rocking back and forth. "A-Anyone… p-please s-stay with m-me. D-Don't leave m-me all alone. D-Don't h-hurt me. P-Please don't h-hurt me. I-I beg you."

Don't… hurt… me…! Is he on the verge of a relapse?!

Just what happened to him when he was young? To make him so… afraid… even now…

"Astral," My arms wrap his body into an embrace rubbing his back. I have to stop this before it gets worse! "Look at me."

"Love, please," Tears drip from my eyes landing on my nightgown. "Look at me."

His eyes slowly open as he meets my gaze with a fearful gaze. His body shivers against mine. "I'm here." I look up at the ceiling. No… I can't cry at a time like this. He needs me to be strong. "I'm here beside you."

"D-Don't hurt m-me."

My heart clenches at his scared expression as I blink rapidly. "I won't ever hurt you, Astral. I'm your wife."

Please tell me he recognizes me. Please!

"You…" His breathing seems to get a little more even. "You are my… wife?"

"Yes," I hold out a hand as he looks at me. "I am Lily. Your wife. Remember?"

Hopefully he's not in his delusion phase of a relapse.

"Lily…" A cry comes from his lips as he latches onto my body. His heart rate increases as he clings into me for dear life. "D-Don't l-leave me," A hiccup rings through my ears as I press my body against his. "H-Help me. D-Don't ever leave me a-alone."

"Ok, ok," I pet his hair closing my eyes. "Shhh, Astral. I'm right here, my love. I will not be leaving you."

"S-Stay with me…"

"Always," I lower my head onto his neck. "No matter what you do, no matter what happened to you in the past, I will never ever think less of you or leave you."

My husband sniffles as he hugs me tightly as he can. "I already lost her. I can't lose you too. Please Lily, stay with me. I… I need you too much."

A smiles tugs at my lips as I gently peck his forehead. "I need you as well, Astral. We both need each other too much. That's why I will be beside you." A finger lifts his chin to meet my gaze. "I love you, honey. Do you understand what that means? It means I will never hurt you. You're safe with me. I will cherish you forever and will not let anything happen to you."

Well, hopefully I can prevent any harm from befalling him.

"I-I don't n-need you to p-protect me." He whispers as my eyes widen. "A-All I want is for you to be beside m-me. I m-may push you a-away when I start to relapse again. I… I j-just want to know i-if-"

"I told you my love," I gulp as tears trickle down my cheeks. "Whether you choose to push me away or not, I will not abandon you. I will not leave you all alone like before. I will," A sniffle escapes from my nose. "I love you too much to leave you."

"P-Promise?"

"Promise."

His figure trembles against me as I pet his pale blue hair clenching my teeth. Just what on earth happened to you when you were around 7? What would make you act so-

(Pulse)

Inside the mind link:

"Lily,"

"Mother?" My eyes widen. "Is there something you need?" Why is she communicating with me this way?

"How's Astral?"

Oh…

"I heard some crying coming from your room so…"

So that's how.

My eyes drift to the figure curled up against me clutching my nightgown. A whimper radiates his lips as I pat his back.

"He just had a relapse."

"He what?! Is he okay? Are you okay?"

"Yes," I glance down at my husband who is sniffing. "We're both fine and well. Don't worry, mother."

"How am I not supposed to worry?" A groan fills my mind. "He puts up a brave front but on the inside, he's…"

A beat of silence flows through the mind link. Should I ask?

"Mother," I bite the inside of my lip. "What exactly happened when he was 7?" She stays silent. "I know. I know it's not my place to ask but-"

"You're his wife. Of course it's your right to know," She lets out a soft sigh. "Lily, try to keep an open mind about this."

An open mind? What could it be?

"Of course."

"When he was seven," Her voice starts to tremble as her breathing hastens a bit. "He was kidnapped."

My heart drops as I cover my mouth. Kidnapped?! Who would do such a thing? I blink my tears away holding him closer. No wonder…

"That's not all." A sniffle rings through the mind link. There's more?!

"What…" My mouth suddenly dries as my throat locks up. "What else is there?"

Kidnapped… so… torture? Physical wounds? Abuse?

"It's… it's best that you don't-"

"Your Majesty, please." I interrupt her. "I have to know the truth. What happened? What did the kidnappers do?"

"Lily-"

"Please!" I shout through the link. A wetness flows down my cheeks as my body shakes. "I must know."

"I beg you, mother." I have to know. What did they do to him? To what extent is he suffering? I… My head lowers into my palm. All this time I've been by his side but I… didn't know anything about him. Yet I call myself his best friend. Hahaha, I sniffle choking back a cry. He was suffering in silence yet I didn't do anything to help him.

"I…" She trails off letting out a breath. "Alright. I'll tell you but," Her voice raises a bit. "Stay calm ok?"

Calm? How am I supposed to be calm when I learned my husband was kidnapped?!

My eyes drift to my husband who is finally resting. His arms wrap around my waist tightly as he shifts closer to me. Astral…

"Ok."

Keep an open mind. Keep an open mind. Don't get too emotional. Just… breath, Lily.

What…

My heart stops at her words. Everything around me blurs into one. I immediately cover my mouth as my body lurches over heaving. "Answer me, are you alright?"

He was… I… why? My breathing starts to pick up as my lungs ache. Who was evil enough to do that to him? A seven year old kid! Why? Why does the misfortune fall on him? First the illness, now this? What has he done to deserve this?

(Slam)

The door slams opens as a woman rushes to my side. Her bright golden eyes brim with tears as her arms wrap around my shoulders bringing me into an embrace.

"Honey," She sniffles. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have-"

"Why?" My throat locks even more as I hold back a sob. "Tell me why him? What has he ever done to deserve t-that treatment?"

The Queen shuts her eyes tightly holding me close. "I… I don't know…"

Astral…
