Something was possessing Sam and Alexander was trying to ignore how familiar that felt.
"Why do you only feel safe in Sam's body?" Alexander asked, trying to see if the entity possessing her had body language or facial expressions he could read. They needed to understand it, if they were going to communicate with it.
"This one has value. You will not harm her."
"She does have value. She's our friend. But she would not want to be the reason our world is in danger. Regardless of her value to us, we can not let you harm our world. Why are you attacking us?"
"You attacked us, we are defending ourselves."
"I don't understand, we haven't attacked anyone."
"You sent the device to our world. Many died."
"The malp? The exploration vehicle we sent. We didn't know it would hurt you. We didn't know you were there. We were curious. We seek knowledge and friendship. This was an accident."
"You did not know?"
"We know now. Let her go, please. Understand, we will also defend ourselves. If you attack, in her body, we will have to kill you both. We don't want to do that. Can we try again? Is friendship possible?"
"If you do not send anymore devices to our world."
"We can communicate without it. We can send signals."
Sam's body approached him. The expression was blank and the body stiff. She walked passed him and he followed.
"Leutenant?" General Hammond asked, when he saw them.
"The entity says they were defending themselves, sir. The malp killed some of their people. They thought we were attacking them. I told it we wouldn't need to send more in order to communicate. We can send signals. I asked it if we can try again.
The entity tilted Sam's head. "The signals from you are different then the signals from the others."
"I'm not originally from this reality. I came here more then two years ago accidentally. I can't go back. I've made my home here."
"I will depart. We will except a cease fire. Do not send anymore devices to our world. An exchange of knowledge is acceptable." It laid Sam's hand on the computer console and an arc of energy traveled out of Sam, thru the computer and down to the floor. The Stargate wooshed open and the arc moved into the event horizon. The Stargate shut down behind it. Sam collapsed to the ground and Colonel O'Neill caught her.
"Colonel, get her to the infirmary. Sargent, have the computer examined. We need to know if the entity did any damage."
"Yes, sir." Sargent Harriman answered.
Colonel O'Neill just nodded and picked Sam up.
"I hope your negotiation worked, Leutenant. What do you think convinced it to actually leave?"
"I told it we'd kill it and Sam to protect our world and Sam would want us to."
"True. Good work."
"Thank you, sir."
Sargent Harriman approached. "Sir, there's a large amount of new information in the computer. I'm not sure how much."
"I also told the entity, we sent the malp because we were curious and wanted friendship and an exchange of knowledge. Maybe it left the information as a gesture of good will."
"Sargent, have that information gone thru. Isolate it from the mainframe, let's not take any chances."
"Yes, sir." He left to do so.
"You look troubled, Leutenant. Do you doubt it was telling the truth?"
"No, it's not that, sir. This is the second time Sam's been possessed, first by Jolinar and now by that thing. Something about it feels familiar. I think i may have been possessed myself back in my home reality. It's frustrating to feel familularity with something, but have no context, no memories to explain it."
"Not having been possessed myself, I can't say I really understand, but I do sympathize. Go see Major Carter. Even if you don't remember, it's still a shared experience. You can help her to deal with it."
"Yes, sir. Thank you, sir."
Sam was awake and being examined by Dr. Frazer.
Alexander approached Colonel O'Neill.
"How is she?"
"Doc says she seems to be doing okay. You did good."
"I'm also feeling uncomfortable. I think I may have been possessed myself back in my original reality. I was just telling the General how frustrating it feels to feel something, but have no memory to explain it. Who was I before I came here? What happened to me? How did I get here? As happy as I've been here, there are gaps, that may never be filled in."
"I know that feeling. When we were on that ice planet, working in the mines, we knew there was something else, something more to us then the limited memories we had. We were able to get answers. I don't know if we'll ever be able to get them for you. You still having those dreams?"
"Yes. I think they're real events. Memories I don't consciously remember. And they're mostly that girl. I occasionally see a little red head that makes me feel like she's family and a guy that also feels like family. But no names, just feelings. I miss them."
"I know that feeling too. I miss Charlie, both Charlie's actually. Charlie Kowalski was a long time friend."
"Does it get easier?"
"Yes, it'll always be there, but does become easier to bear. Just give it time."
"Does time move differently in other realities?"
"Maybe, I've heard Carter talking about it. Gravity can effect time. It's part of why black holes are the way they are. We could be moving faster or slower then someone else. Makes my brain hurt to think about it."
"Mine too. I'm not a scientist and I don't want to be. I like who I am here. But I still miss the people back there. I think I always will."
