Angel had been shot with an arrow, one that turned out to have poison on it. Willow's analysis showed it was a mystical poison called killer of the dead.
"Wesley, does the Council know anything about this poison?" Buffy asked.
"Yes, but they refuse to help."
"Why? That doesn't make any sense!"
"Because it is against Council policy to aid vampires."
"But it's Angel! Did you explain that?!"
"The circumstances don't matter. We don't help vampires."
"I'm talking about watching my lover die! I don't have a clue what you're talking about."
"The Council's orders..."
"I don't care their orders. You tell them, until the next Slayer comes along, they're out of a job."
"Buffy, if you turn your back on the Council..."
"They're in England, I don't think they can tell what direction my back is facing."
Willow's research found that the blood of a Slayer would cure the poison.
"Faith, I need you to help Angel."
"Forget it B, I'm not feeding myself to a vamp."
"But it's Angel!"
"I don't care. Soul or no soul, no vamp is feeding on me."
"I knew you were a bitch, but I didn't realize how selfish a bitch you are." Willow said.
"You think it's selfish that she doesn't want a vampire feeding on her? How twisted are you, Willow?" Cordelia wanted to know.
"It's to help Buffy!"
"I'm not doing it and you can't make me."
Since Faith refused to allow Angel to feed on her, Buffy got him to feed on her. He drained her nearly dry, before taking her to the hospital.
They'd discovered what the Mayor's ultimate plan was. He wanted to be a giant demon. As in dinosaur sized. They were currently brainstorming ways of fighting him and his army of vampires.
"Well, what if we have an army of our own?" Buffy suggested. "We could recruit the whole senior class to fight."
"This is where Xander would come in handy. All that military knowledge in his head, he could come up with a battle plan, not to mention, he's good at persuading people." Cordelia said.
"Well, I was thinking, we could tell them what's going on and give them the choice to fight or not."
"But how, Buffy? That's the part we're not getting. They have no training, no idea how to fight vampires. Where are we going to get weapons? And that doesn't take care of the Mayor snake." Cordelia said.
"Well, then you come up with an idea!" Buffy exclaimed, exasperated.
"Fine, I will. Xander and I buried the rocket launcher in Miller's Woods. We dig it up. Faith hides in the clock tower. We do tell the other students and give them a choice. Principal Snyder has offered any student who wants to skip the ceremony to have their diploma mailed to them. Any who stay, we have them gather baseball bats and other weapons from their home. We sharpen them in the auto classroom. We volunteer to decorate for the ceremony. We know there's going to be an eclipse. We put uv lights around the courtyard. Ones that come on automatically. That gives us a fighting chance."
Everyone was silent and then Faith said. "Damn, Queenie, that's good."
"It does sound like a good idea." Wesley said. "I will obtain the lights."
"Faith, you want to help me dig it up?"
"Yeah, I do."
"Why does she get to fire it?" Buffy demanded.
"You did last time. Plus, Faith doesn't go to school here. You would be missed, she won't."
"A good point." Wesley said.
"Fine." Buffy muttered.
Wesley obtained the uv lights and tested them to make sure they did come on automatically. They were secreted around and throughout the courtyard. Faith was waiting in the clocktower an hour before the ceremony began. Half the students weren't there as they opted not to come. When the eclipse began, Mayor Wilkins transformed. Principal Snyder was yelling at him and got eaten.
The vampires charged the students and ran right into the lights. The screams were terrible, as was the smell of burnt flesh, especially since none were dusted. The students attacked the vampires. In the confusion, the Mayor snake ate several of them.
Faith lined up her shot and took it. The Mayor-snake's head exploded, splattering the students. The body flopped over and landed on a couple more students. In all, more then a dozen died. The eclipse ended and the vampires that the students hadn't gotten, dusted in the sunlight as they were too badly injured to get away.
"That went fairly well." Wesley said. "It could have been much worse."
"It could have been better too." Willow said.
"At least it's over and we won." Buffy said.
"I saw Angel. He made it through the battle." Willow told her, sympathizing since Angel had broken up with her, saying she'd be better off without him.
"He said he wouldn't say goodbye." Buffy said sadly.
"I need to finish packing. I'm leaving for L.A. tomorrow. I don't plan to ever come back to Sunnydale." Cordelia said. "Faith, you're welcome to come visit."
"I'll take you up on that, Queenie."
