Brandon's POV:
"You want the truth?" The guy across from me stares at her up and down with a nonchalant gaze.
"Mhm!" A radiant smile flashes on her face as she twirls. "What do you think of this outfit? I just found it hidden away in a closet."
"You have no fashion sense whatsoever." He crosses his legs elegantly as she blinks. "The dress you have on is too revealing. In fact, I seen many girls in dresses like yours who are working in bars and other places trying to make a living entertaining men using their body."
All of the jaws drop at his words as he narrows his gold and silver eyes. "Sis, are you trying to become a prostitute?"
A… p-p… did he just say prostitute?!
Her gold eyes widen as her jaw dangles to the ground, staring at him in utter disbelief.
"You're very attractive, Astrana but the thought of you being a prostitute doesn't settle well with me. Hm," He places a hand under his chin. "You are my sister and if anyone finds out that you are my sister, what would they think of me?"
"Y-You…" Her eye twitches as she points at him with her index finger. "H… How dare you-"
"You're the one who said you wanted to know what I think of your outfit." A neutral expression crosses his face as he shrugs. "That outfit you have on right now… if it were on my wife," A glint forms in his eyes as a miniature smirk appears on his lips. "She would be-Mph!"
"Okay," My friend slams her hand on his mouth sporting a red blush gritting her teeth. "That's enough opinions from you."
Wow… I glance at my friend who purses her lips together crossing her arms over her chest with a pout. To be completely honest, I gulp as heat flows up to my cheeks. Even though it's a costume, it doesn't mean that it isn't good looking… or dare I say it… hot.
No! Bad Brandon! What am I thinking? Curse the male mind! She's my friend! Not to mention… I glance at her brother who rolls his eyes with a scoff. His sister. But in all fairness, she does look good in that costume.
A gasp rings out as I turn my head towards an older woman. Her hand covers her mouth with a look of horror as my two friend behind her gapes in shock.
"Astrana Monica Zexal," Oh no. She used her full name… "What in the stars are you wearing?!"
Her eyes light up as she runs to the queen. "Mommy, Astral was bullying me!"
"I was bullying you?" A laugh rings from his lips. "Mother, I was only telling her what I thought of her playboy bunny costume."
"He called me a prostitute!"
"Because you're dressed like one."
"No!" Her brows furrow at her brother. "It's cute! It's a bunny costume."
"It's a playboy bunny costume. Totally different than your regular Halloween costumes."
"It's just a costume of a cute bunny though."
"Sis, it's more than just cute. You forgot sexy, seductive, alluring-"
"Only you view it that way!" My friend yells as her face grows red. "Brandon, Zach, Derek," Her gaze shifts to us as my guy friends glance away. "What do you three think of this costume?"
Ah great. Why me? I facepalm my forehead averting my eyes as the ones sitting next to me let's out awkward coughs.
"W-Well," My brown eyed friend begins. His hand picks up a cup of water sipping it as slow as possible. "He's not… particularly wrong…"
"What?" Her forehead wrinkles as she tilts her head. "Can you speak up, Zach?"
He turns his head in the other direction as she shifts her gaze onto the being next to him. "Derek?" My friend's green eyes immediately widen as he mutters beneath his breath staring at the ceiling.
"Brandon?" Her innocent eyes finally settles on mine as I gulp. Oh come on! "Surely you don't think this costume is bad… do you?"
What to do now… she's like a little kid when it comes to these things. How can I say this?
"Astrana," My eyes lock onto her as she blinks. Argh! How can I say this to her of all beings?! "Your brother is mostly… correct…"
"How?" She places her hands on her hips. "This is such a cute bunny costume yet you guys," She glares at her brother. "View it so… out of the ordinary."
"Out of the ordinary?" He raises a brow sipping his water. "On the contrary, sis. Most beings would view this costume to be provocative."
My friend's face turns beet red as she grits her teeth. "You just have a weird mind."
"You're not wrong. My mind is already weird but I can guarantee if you were to step outside, you would be in deep trouble."
Especially since there are so many perverted men these days. Actually, if I remember correctly, he's working on a perverted noble case right now.
"Hey!"
"It's true." A clink rings throughout the room as he places the cup down. "If it were an ordinary bunny costume, I wouldn't have a problem with it but it happens to be a playboy bunny outfit."
She blinks blankly looking at her body then back at her brother. "I mean… I get it's revealing but aren't all costumes like this? The ones I found hidden away at the back of the closet were more indecent than this."
Really? Man, just what kind of costumes are there?
"It's a playboy outfit."
My friend blinks blankly as he sighs pinching his nose bridge. "You honestly don't know what that is?"
"Am I supposed to?"
Why am I not surprised at her innocence around this whole thing?
"Have you ever heard of the tuxedo bunny?"
"The what?"
"The tuxedo bunny. It's a black bunny with a bow tie. It's used as a symbol for-"
"Son!" A voice shouts interrupting him. Golden eyes stare into his. "She does not need to know what that is."
"Astrana," Her gaze shifts to her daughter as my friend gulps. "Go change this instant."
"Eh? But mom, I like this-"
"Now."
"But…" Gold eyes pierce into hers as she lets out a nod. "Okay. Fine."
"Auntie!" A small child runs up to her in a cute little purple dress as a pair of arms pick her up.
My friend giggles kissing her cheek. "Why good morning, Melody. I'm happy to see you too."
A hand reaches up to play with her black bunny ears as her eyes sparkle in curiosity. "You look so cute!"
"Thank you." Her eyes narrow at the man sitting quietly with his hands resting on the table. "See? She thinks what I'm wearing is cute."
"That's because she doesn't know what that costume means." A being next to me whispers as I nudge him him the arm.
"Quiet Derek."
"I was just saying that's all." He mutters with a frown.
My friend lets out a breath as she takes off her ears and gently places them on the girl's head. "They look much cuter on you, sweetheart."
Her eyes light up as she wiggles from her grip running towards her father. "Daddy, do I look cute?"
"Of course you do, honey!" A smile flashes on his lips as he carries her to his lap. "You're the cutest being here."
"Yay!" Her small arms wrap around his body. "Oh. Do you remember we have that drawing contest today?"
Drawing contest?
"Yes, don't worry. After eating, I'll play with you." A chuckle escapes his lips as he places his hand on top of her head. "Now, be a good girl and accompany my sister to her room."
"Then you'll play with me?"
"Once I am finished with breakfast, yes."
"Okay!" She pecks his lips and hops off his lap grabbing her aunt's hand. "Come on Auntie, let's go."
Did she just kiss his lips? I blink as I stare at my friend who immediately switches his smile to a neutral expression. That's fine right? After all, she's his daughter. How can he switch expressions so quickly?
"Astral,"
"Yes?"
A disapproving gaze pierces through his being as he blankly stares at her. "You called your sister a prostitute?!"
"Hey," He shrugs. "I'm only stating the facts."
"Still," Golden eyes narrow into his. "That does not excuse you from referring to her in such a derogatory term."
"Derogatory?" He stifles a laugh with the back of his hand. "You call that derogatory, mother? Oh I can't even."
"Why you-"
"Be glad I didn't use more vulgar terms to describe her."
…
…
…
What the heck is wrong with him?
"Astral!" A feminine voice shouts in shock as she looks at me with her eyes wide. I shrug shaking my head as she directs her green eyes onto his gold and silver. "How can you say such a thing about your sister?"
"Why so shocked, Star?"
Why? He's asking why?!
"Are you feeling alright?" My hazel eyes friend furrows her brows. "You normally don't speak so harshly…"
"I'm feeling fantastic!"
…
Something's definitely off.
A sigh rings out throughout the room as my dark haired friend groan facepalming herself. "Honey, when I said you should practice telling the truth, I didn't mean for you to be so…"
"So what?"
"So blunt with your choice of words." She mutters as my friends blink looking at each other.
Huh…
"Hey," He folds his arms across his chest. "You were the one who told me to tell the truth."
"But I didn't expect you to say these things!"
"So you want to hear pretty lies?"
Purple eyes widen as a smirk flashes on his face. "I thought so, darling. Be glad I toned it down or else I could be much more callous with the wording."
Unbelievable… is this really him right now?
"So," His hands clasp in front of him as he gazes at each and every one of us. "If anyone has questions to ask me, now's the time to get that over with."
Dare I ask?
"You'll answer anything?" I ask as he nods. "Well, I guess I have a question that's been lingering-"
"Do you remember who kidnapped you all those years ago?"
All of our eyes widen as the queen locks eyes with her son. Such a deep question right off the bat.
"Mother!" My friend exclaims in horror as a hand touches her arm. He shakes his head with a smile.
"Why do you ask?"
"I want to know." A fist clenches as her eyes narrow. "Who is it that did those things to you?"
He blinks at her with a shrug. "Honestly, even if I wanted to tell you, I can't remember his face or name."
The queen's eyes widen as her son nods. "Are you sure?"
"Did I not tell you when I was younger?"
She shakes her head. "You avoided that topic like a plague."
"Huh," His eyes shift downwards for a moment the look at her once more. "Well, there's the answer to your question."
"Anyone else?"
The being with jet black hair raises his hand. "Yes, a very important one."
"Go ahead."
Brown eyes look left then right with hesitation as he lets out a puff of air. "Be honest, are you doing drugs?"
Drugs?!
"What?! Son, are you doing drugs?!"
His eyes roll with a scoff. "Relax, mother, I am not doing drugs." My friend's eyes meet his. "For the last time Zach, those are prescribed specifically for me. If you don't believe me, check with Nistro."
Oh. Wait… he's on medication? What for? Is he ill? Life threatening disease? My eyes widen as I gulp. "Are you dying?"
"Ow!"
"Brandon!" I rub my head as she hits my head. Green eyes narrow as her lips form a scowl. "Seriously?"
"I-I'm just guessing." I instantly put my hands in surrender mode. "What's gotten you so worked up today?" She normally isn't the aggressive type.
A laugh rings out from across the table as he shakes his head. "No Brandon. I am not dying."
"Then why do you have medication?"
"It's…" His eyes shifts towards his wife who blinks. "It's just medication I need to take daily. That's all."
"But what is-"
"Why did I catch you trying to overdose?"
Overdose?!
"Astral, you-"
"I did not overdose."
"Oh yeah? You took 5 pills when it said to take 1." He folds his arms with an expectant gaze. "Why would you take so many?"
"You sometimes can't go off of instructions. I know what I needed and one pill wasn't enough."
"If everyone goes by that, beings would start dying left and right." His legs cross. "Ativan. What was that for?"
"You already know. Why would you ask me a question you already know the answer to?"
Ativan?
"You spied on me?" A gasp radiates through his lips. "How could you-"
"It was a hunch. I did not spy on you."
"It's a mood stabilizer mainly used for anxiety and sometimes depression." His eyes lock onto his. "Am I right?"
"Yes."
Anxiety? He has anxiety? He's the most confident person I know yet he has anxiety?
"Is it used to treat anxiety?"
"Yes."
…
Brown eyes narrow. "You're lying."
"Am I?"
"There's no way it's used to treat anxiety. It's something else, right?"
"Why would you assume that?"
"I know you. Sure, you would have occasional panic attacks but that's not what it's for."
"What do you think I use it for then?"
He places a hand under his chin with a hum. "Ativan is a drug that can treat mood disorders. Mainly bipolar and depression."
"So you think I'm bipolar now?"
"Not at all." A small smile flash on his face as he leans forward clasping his hands in front of him. "You're not bipolar or depressed. You just have trouble regulating your emotions."
"I think we all know that by now, genius."
"You didn't let me finish." My friend sighs. "You're mainly using it as a mood stabilizer but there's an added bonus."
"Care to tell me what the bonus is?"
"Gladly. Ativan is primarily used as a mood stabilizer but it can also be used to treat psychotic episodes."
Psychotic… episodes… I snap my head towards my brown-eyed friend. What is he saying? Is he accusing him to be psychotic?!
"You're accusing me to be psychotic?" He tilts his head as he points a finger at himself. "Do I look psychotic to you?"
"Your feeling are very muted. It would make sense for me to think along this route."
"Just because they are muted doesn't mean I'm psychotic. There's a difference between psychotic and what I am experiencing."
"Right. If I had to guess, you're a secondary psychopath?"
Psychopath?! What the heck?!
"Oh?" His neutral face changes into an expression of interest as he raises a brow. "You even used the scientific term as well. Looks like someone done their research."
He's agreeing with him?! My jaw drops as I looks at my friends who all stare at him blankly. Astral, what are you thinking?!
"Of course this is all based on a hunch but regarding what I know about your situation… I feel as if I'm correct."
A clap rings through the room as he develops a tiny smirk. "You should become a detective, Zachary."
His eyes widen. "Are you really a secondary psychopath?"
"I don't know," He shrugs. "Am I a being that suffers from ASPD?"
"You said you're not lying today."
"I did say that but I can pick questions to answer to." He crosses his legs once more picking up a fork twirling it between his fingers. "No offense but do you really think I'm going to admit that in front of everyone?"
"What's the shame in admitting it? A sociopath or a secondary psychopath is cause by a genetic disposition and some sort of trauma in childhood. So even if you are a sociopath, it's not your fault you ended up being the way you are."
True.
Gold and silver eyes stare at him blankly. "There's a reputation for beings with ASPD. Does that not make you afraid?"
"I mean… it depends on the individual. Take the incident a couple of days ago with Edward. He has ASPD and did a bunch of messed up things with feeling remorse and guilty for his actions. In my book, he's a bad being. But you on the other hand," Brown eyes lock onto his. "All this time we knew each other, you did nothing to harm me and even helped me with a bunch of things. Sure, you would lie and manipulate people but I'm sure they were for a suitable reason. You go out of your way to help beings. One could argue you were doing that to maintain your image but you were helping them nevertheless. Even if you have ASPD, that doesn't change the way we all view you, Astral." His gaze shifts to us. "Isn't that right?"
All of us nod as gold and silver eyes widen at my friend's words. "Ha," A hand slides down his face letting out a laugh. "Fine. You want to know if I'm a being with ASPD?"
"I have a hunch but then again, I could be wrong."
"Which is why I'm not answering your question."
"But-"
"You already have an answer in mind. Why bother asking me?"
"I just want to confirm my suspicions."
"According to your words," His arms fold in front of his chest. "It shouldn't matter if I'm a sociopath or not because you will accept me as I am, right?"
"Uh yes but-"
"So why bother asking me this question? Hm, are you seeking some sort of validation? Perhaps you thought if you can get me to admit I'm a sociopath, you could bask in the glory that you 'exposed' me to everyone? Is that it?"
Is he being serious? I raise a brow as my friend's mouth dangles in shock. My head turns towards his wife who facepalms letting out a soft groan. I never knew he can be so… I don't even know what to call it.
"W-What?" His hands raises above his head. "You got me wrong! I would never glorify-"
A chuckle rings throughout the room as his emotionless demeanor breaks. "You should look at your face currently. It's hilarious. Hahaha."
"Huh?"
"Relax Zach, I'm just messing with you. There's no way you would do that."
Brown eyes stare blankly at him as he suddenly fills his cheeks with air turning his head to the side.
"I couldn't resist."
My friend turns towards him letting out a sigh. "Haha, very funny but in all seriousness, are you addicted to Ativan?"
"No."
"You think I don't know the symptoms of addiction?"
"Okay. I was starting to develop a reliance but now, I'm completely fine. The physician has been waning me off of it."
"Are you taking any new medications?"
"I am under no obligation to answer that."
"Are any of those medications habit forming?"
"Nope." He shakes his head as I let out a breath. "Be assured that he has been very careful in prescribing medication since this incident."
"That puts my mind at ease."
Duh. A doctor is supposed to be careful when dealing out medicine. The dose should be prescribed precisely or else he could be facing lawsuits. It is even more important when dealing with The Royal Family. He could be beheaded if he makes a wrong move.
"Anymore questions?" Gold and silver eyes meets mine as I gulp. "Brandon,"
"Yes?" Uh-oh… has he gotten suspicious? Should I ask that question? Will he be offended?
(Flash):
"Hypothetically speaking," I let out a sigh as she turns in my direction. "If he was lying to us this whole time…"
(Flash)
My chest aches a bit as my lips twitch. He said that he couldn't feel to a certain extent. Could it be possible that he's been faking our friendship? What if… he's just toying with me this entire time and I've been a fool to believe his words? What if-
"You look as if you want to ask me something," His luminous eyes blink as I flinch. Am I that readable?! "You may ask me anything you desire."
Why does he always have that look on his face? That calm look as if he's ready for anything. I'm willing to bet if there's a zombie apocalypse, he'll be ready with a shelter and materials. He might be able to kill all of them using his powers. Is that why nothing really fazes him?
"I…" Should I ask? Should I not? Argh, come on! Make up your mind, Brandon. "No." That's right. I shouldn't ask him such a question. We've been friends for years now. If he was faking it, why would he still be my friend? What would I have as a benefit for him? He's the Crown Prince. I'm nothing but a son of a duke. Yea. I don't even compare to him. The fact that he looks out for me is enough. I don't really need to be his friend so to speak. "There's nothing I wish to ask of you."
He blinks letting out a soft sigh nodding his head. "Alright then." His gaze shifts to his black watch as my eyes widen. When did he get a watch?
"Hey um," My white haired friend chimes in furrowing her brows. "When did you get a watch?"
"This?" He fixes his eyes on it as his lips curve upwards. "A friend of mine."
"Geez," The woman next to him lets out a groan. "How many friends do you have?"
A finger pokes her cheek with a wink. "You'll never know, honey."
Hm… the fact he's referring to that being as a friend… are they actually friends or are they just acquaintances? Perhaps there is something he needed from that individual so he's- My eyes widen as I pinch my leg. Hold on. Why am I thinking like this? Since when do I think so low of him? So he can't feel to a certain extent. That doesn't change the fact he's always there for me when I needed him. Snap out of it, Brandon. Stop thinking like this.
Liliana's POV:
Hm,
"Daddy," A child's voice rings through the air as her cheeks inflate. "I drew it better."
"Oh?" The man with pale blue hair crouches down onto the floor with a small smile. "You drew it better you say?"
"Yes." A finger points to a child-like drawing of a red flower. "You see? I added color while yours," Her finger then points to a beautifully drawn rose. "Has no color. It's so boring."
"Boring?" He lets out a huff as he picks up the paper comparing them side by side. "Sweetie, just because you added color to yours doesn't make it anymore pretty."
Big purple eyes stare at him. "Black and white is not pretty."
Actually… I glance at his drawing. His flower looks as if it was drawn by an artist. The shading is perfect and it looks three dimensional. Is there anything this man isn't good at?
"Well, I could argue red isn't pretty either."
"What? Why don't you like red?"
"A lot of reason. For example, it's a bit too bright for my tastes."
My daughter blinks blankly as he places a hand under his chin. "Not to mention I associate it with killings and blood."
"Blood?" What is he thinking saying these things in front of a child?! "Why would it make you think of that?"
I glare at my husband as he grins innocently. "Forget what I said, sweetheart. Let's call this round a tie."
"Does that mean we both win?"
A laugh rings from his lips as he fetches the crayons and color pencils from the ground. "Yes. Let's have one more round to decide the winner, okay?"
"Yuppie!" Her doll eyes stare into mine. "Mommy, can you pick this time?"
Let's see, what should I pick? It has to be something a two year old can draw yet it also has to challenge her father as well… or should I just pick an item for her so that she can win? But then again… I glance as my husband. I really want to see how good of an artist he is.
"Let's go with a portrait." That way I can see how good he is drawing a being. Besides, if she does a bad job, I'm pretty sure he's going to admit defeat since it wasn't a fair competition to begin with.
"A portrait?" Her nose wrinkles. "What's that?"
"A drawing of someone." A voice interrupts me as her head turns towards the source. "You're really testing my skills, aren't you, love?"
I giggle closing my eyes. "I wish you two the best of luck."
20 minutes later:
"How is it coming along you two?" Is 20 enough or shall I give them more time?
My legs walk towards my daughter as she covers her paper with her hands. "No peeking, mommy."
"Aw," I pout with a frown. "Can't I take a look?"
"Not until I am done."
Figured that was the case. I glance towards the man who shuts his eyes for a few minutes then reopens them with a smile. He picks up his pencil a starts drawing. Huh… is he tired or something? Why would he shut his eyes then reopen them? Most importantly… I tip toe towards him, inching closer as he raises a brow. Uh-oh.
"What are you doing?"
"Honey, whatcha drawing?" I tilt my head to the side sporting a grin. "Can I see?"
A force pushes my head back shaking his head. "No. Not until I am done with this one."
"Come on!" My eyes widen as a portrait of someone with long hair comes into view as he places the paper face down. Who…
"Mommy, I'm done."
I clear my throat. "Alright pencils down." I turn towards my husband who is staring at the paper in his hands. "Honey, want to go first?"
"Hm? No. Let our daughter go first." His eyes fixes on the drawing as purple eyes blink at me. Okay then…
A hand uncovers her paper to reveal three stick figures standing beside a big house. Huh… why am I not more surprised? "Melody, you're supposed to draw a portrait as in one being."
She shrugs. "I know, mommy but why would I draw one when I can draw three?"
Um…
"I know this is not a portrait but I don't want you two to feel left out."
Huh? My husband and I blink blankly as she points at the stick figures. "See? This is you, daddy, and me." She then points to the big house to the right of them. "This is the palace where we live."
Oh. So she… My heart melts as I take a seat on the floor carrying her to my lap. "And we will always be happy just like the picture."
Her head nods happily as she plants a kiss on my cheek. "Which is why they are all smiling."
I tickle her armpits as she squirms around letting out melodic giggles. "Hahaha, mommy! S-Stop that… hahaha!"
"I can't stop because you're too cute!" My arms squeeze her body firming planting kisses on her forehead.
"Haha!"
Are all two year olds like this? So innocent about the world. So carefree. So adorable! I could eat her right up!
"Hey baby, care to share your picture?" I ask as he blinks with a small smile.
"Sure."
My eyes widen as I involuntarily let out a gasp. This is… A young lady with wavy hair stands in a field of flowers with a serene expression. Her clothes flow from her body making her angelic demeanor more heavenly. In the middle of her forehead lays a red ruby that shines the color of blood. This is… Her eyes sparkle making everything around her dim in comparison. No… it's not possible. I blink a few times. Why would he draw her out of every being in existence? Why?
"Daddy, she's very beautiful!" She hops up from my lap to go sit in his lap. "Do you know her?"
"In real life?" He shakes his head. "I wish I know such a gorgeous woman in real life."
"But," Her brows furrow in confusion. "How did you draw her if you don't know her?"
"Would you believe I saw her in a dream?"
A… dream…?
"A dream?"
A finger pokes her nose gently as she pouts. "So does that mean if I go to sleep, I can dream of her too?"
My husband burst out laughing. "Why would you want to dream of her, snowflake?"
"Do I need a reason to?" She shrugs. "Oh! What's her name, daddy?"
"Her name?" His brows furrow as he purses his lips. "I…" A hiss rings from his lips as he clutches his head.
"Are you okay?"
"Her name…" A whisper escapes his mouth as he stares at the drawing. "I believe it's…" He shuts his eyes for a few minutes then opens them. "Susu."
Susu?
"Wait a minute," I put a hand up as two pairs of eyes stare in my direction. "Honey, you saw her in a dream?"
"Yes." He nods as I blink. "I don't know why but… these past couple of weeks I have been seeing glimpses of a woman. Her long wavy hair, pale skin, and that ruby in the middle of her forehead."
"You couldn't see her face?"
"On occasions I catch a glimpse of her side profile but never her full face."
"But…"
"Oh. You're wondering why I drew her if I don't know how she looked?" He rubs the back of his neck. "I used my imagination."
"So that's not what she really looks like?"
He shakes his head as my daughter blinks staring at the picture once more placing a hand under her chin.
Hm… he dreamt of her. Is that it? A sting in my chest radiates as I fold my arms over my stomach. "Don't you think she looks like someone you knew?"
"Someone I knew?" Gold and silver eyes meet mine. "Who?"
Is he joking or can he really not see the resemblance between them? She looks exactly like her! Perhaps it's because the drawing is in black and white.
"I declare our daughter the winner."
"Yay!"
"What?!" A shout escapes from his lips as I blink innocently. "How is that fair?"
"It wasn't a fair competition in the first place, my dear. You're an adult. She's the child so of course you would have an advantage."
"But-"
"Yay!" She climbs from his lap and starts running towards the doors. "I'm going to invite Lady Star to go with us!"
The doors shut as I glare at the man beside me. He blinks raising a brow. "What?"
"What do you mean what?!"
"Uh…" I furrow my brows leaning closer to him as he backs away. "Are you alright?"
"Alright? Ha, how can I be alright when my husband dreams of another lady at night?!"
His arms slowly rises above his head in a surrendering motion. "I can't control what I dream about-"
"Can't control?" My blood boils as I grit my teeth. My eyes dart to the drawing on the table then to him. "If you can't then why don't you marry her?" Honestly this guy dreaming about another lady while he's married. I should let him have it. Does that count as being unfaithful though?
A pair of arms wrap around my waist pulling me in so his chest touches my back. "My lovely wife, I thought you said I was supposed to be honest with you." Eh?!
"I did say that but there are things you just don't need to say."
"Ah," He lets out a chuckle as his lips peck the side of my neck. "So I didn't need to tell you that I saw a lady in my dreams?"
When he puts it that way…
"Alrighty then."
"Heyyyy!" I turn my head looking back at him as he grins. "What are you saying? Of course I want you to tell the truth."
"But darling, didn't you say there are some things I should keep to myself?"
"I-"
"I did as you directed yet you yelled at me." My eyes widen as he sports an adorable pout. "I don't like it when you're mad at me, my love."
O-Oh my…
I gasp as he grabs my hand placing it on the left side of his chest. His lips purse as his eyes shimmer with tears. Is he… crying? "I don't like it when you yell at me." A sniffle rings through the air as my jaw dangles. Why is he… "B-Baby, my heart hurts."
"O-Okay," I lay his head on my shoulder rubbing his back. Did I unintentionally yell at him? All I did was raise my voice a couple notches though. "I'm sorry, baby. I'm so sorry. You're right, I shouldn't have raised my voice at you."
"N-No," His tone lowers into a whisper. "It was my fault. I-"
"Don't say that. It was my fault. You told me the truth for which I'm grateful for." I would rather hear the truth than pretty lies anyway. "I'm sorry for yelling, my beloved."
"R-Really?"
My lips curve into a smile as I caress the sides of his face. "Really. I'm sorry, Astral." Why is he so sensitive when I raise my voice at him though? I was merely teasing yet… is it a trauma response? Is that a thing? "Can you forgive me, my beloved husband?"
A tiny smirk crawls onto his face as everything clicks into place. "Astral, you-Mph!"
His mouth crashes into mine suddenly as he switches his grip on my body pushing me back to the elegant piano. Heat flows within my body as he explores the depths of my mouth. H-He dare do this to me?! I let out an involuntary moan as he caresses my bottom ever so gently. Darn it!
Our tongue intertwine as we pull away, heaving. My arms cling onto his chest as I gulp. "Why all of a sudden?"
"Was that not the only way I could get a kiss from you?"
"What?"
"I remember clearly you said I am not allowed to kiss you during this week so I found my way around it."
…
He!
"You dare trick me?"
My husband grins as he pecks my nose. "Trick? No. I like to view it as I influenced your actions."
"Yea! By faking tears so I would apologize!" I snap as my brows furrow. "Honestly, you are so-Mph!"
Soft lips crash on mine once more as my heart beats faster. He pulls away gently holding my hands. "Baby, I don't like it when I have to restrain myself with you."
"Hey! Stop that."
"Hm?"
How can he pull off so an innocent look when he's so guilty? That's got to be talent right there.
I let out a groan as my hand facepalms myself. "You are impossible to deal with, you know that?"
A laugh fills my ears as he pulls me closer resting his head on my shoulder. "Am I really?"
"Yes but I wouldn't have it any other way."
"Why's that?" My fingers play with his hair as I blink. Hm…
"I like you this way." It makes you seem more carefree and happy. "It's more fun. You acting as a kid, I mean."
"Heyyy!"
My lips curve into a miniature smile letting out a giggle. "I'm serious."
Astral's POV:
"Daddy, let's visit all the stores!" A girl beams as she drags me along. All of them? This is going to be such a busy day.
She suddenly lets go of my hand and drags her mother towards a stuffed animal stand. "Mommy, let's go!"
Of course it's stuffed animals. At this rate, she's going to end up with a collection. My eyes drift to the individual next to me. A flicker of gold catches my attention as I stare at her pendent. That reminds me…
"Star,"
She flinches as her eyes land on mine. "Yes?"
"I hope you don't find this question to be too personal but may I ask where did you get that pendent from?"
Green eyes widen as she clutches the gold necklace in her hands. "Why do you ask?"
Defensive huh? Looks like that pendent is important to her.
"I'm just curious is all." Now looking at it, it really does look like mine. The question is who gave it to her? "It seems important."
Her eyes shift left and right as she purses her lips. What is she not telling me? Her fingers clench into a fist as she steps closer me. What is she… "Do you not remember me?" My eyes widen as a soft hand touches mine ever so gently.
(Pulse)
(Flash):
"Sky!" A little girl in a lilac dress runs up to a boy enveloping him into a hug. "You came back!"
"Get off me."
Her lips frown. "You're so cold. Sometimes I wonder why I'm your friend in the first place."
"No one's forcing you to be my friend."
"Hey," She places her hands on her hips. "What did I tell you about thinking bad thoughts?"
(Flash)
(Pulse)
Ow!
I rub the side of my head blinking a few times. What was that? Who was that girl? Why were their faces blurred? Also, why does this keep happening when I least expect it?
"Pardon?" I tilt my head to the side as she retracts her hand from mine with a look of disappointment.
"Never mind."
Huh… how odd.
"Watch out!" A voice shouts as a high pitched scream envelops the air. Huh?
"Catch her! Quick!"
I let out a gasp as a force rams into my body throwing me off guard. What the… Long hair enters my vision as I yank the being's arm back towards me. A lady? My arms wrap around her waist to stabilize her as I stare at her in disbelief. She's… her face… Blue wavy locks frame her face as pink sapphires shine brilliantly against her flawless complexion. I'm not hallucinating again, am I?
"You…" My heart beats faster as my throat locks. Is it really…
"Thief!" A guy shouts as she lets out a small gasp while getting out of my arms. "Don't let her get away!"
A bunch of men chases her as she runs away from them. Why… A hand pulls me to the side as green eyes stare at me in worry. "Are you alright, Astral?" She whispers as I glance in the direction she ran off to. Was she really… no… it couldn't be. I was probably hallucinating again. Gee… this has become a problem.
Something touches my shoulder as I snap from my stupor. "No need to fret. I'm fine."
"Daddy!" A force tackles my legs letting out a whimper. "Are you hurt?"
"Don't worry." I place a hand on her head letting out a soft sigh. "I'm perfectly fine."
"Really?" Big doll eyes stare into mine as I carry her into my chest.
"Yes. Really. It takes more to hurt your father, sunshine." My wife walks up to me carrying a bag. "Isn't that right?"
"Mhm."
Was that just an illusion though? My face defaults to a neutral one. I should speak to Nistro about this.
Astrana's POV:
(Creek)
My eyes widen as a guy with ash blond hair stares back at me. What is he doing here?
"Derek," I look at him as I close the doors to my room. "Why are you standing outside my room?"
"I'm concerned about you."
Concerned? About me?
I raise a brow letting out a laugh. "What about?"
"You know…" His lips purse into a thin line as he leans closer to my ear. "The event from last night and all…"
(Flash):
"Does he have a pulse?"
My body trembles as I gulp. Crimson drips from his stomach and neck as he lays there motionless. A puddle forms beside him as a wave of nausea suddenly arises within me. W-What is he…
"Astrana," A voice rises as green eyes lock onto mine. My friend pins the killer down on her back effectively choking her. "Tell me, does he have a pulse?"
(Flash)
"I'm fine."
That's right. I'm completely fine. I'm the epitome of fine. So I saw a man dying. Big deal. I saw a being kill another. Big deal. Things like these happen a lot. Yea. My hand trembles as I clench it into a fist. I saw her kill another. That was all. It was a teeny tiny thing compared to what my brother had been through.
"Are… you sure?"
"Derek, you worry too much. I said I'm fine." Although… "Want to visit the dungeon with me?"
He blinks blankly as we start walking. "Why?"
"I want to know why she took his life." Perhaps she had a really good reason to.
"You know that doesn't-"
"Yes. That doesn't justify murder but remember the Jasper case? Maybe it was out of self defense or something along those lines."
A hand lays on my forehead. "Huh… did anyone tell you you're too optimistic?"
"Heyyy!"
"Don't get me wrong," His arms fold as he gives me an expectant stare. "Optimism is good but usually in cases like these, the outcome isn't all sunshine and rainbows."
I roll my eyes as he shakes his head. "Anyway, do you know where Astral is? I need his jade pendent to enter the prison."
"You don't know? He went out with his family and Star."
So that's why I couldn't find her anywhere. Speaking of which… he didn't have to be so harsh earlier. Calling me a prostitute. As if! Who does he think he is calling me such a degrading term? When he gets back, I'm going to give him a piece of my mind!
Ten minutes later:
"Okay," I drag my friend's hand down the halls. "We got approval."
"How did you manage to do that? I thought you said you weren't going to tell anyone about-"
"I just told them I wanted to see what it looks like since I was curious."
His footsteps jog up to match mine as he stares at me. "And they just let you go there without suspicion?"
My shoulders shrug as I grin at him. "They weren't suspicious in the slightest!"
"How?"
"Unlike my brother, who is always calculating and manipulating beings, I'm the one who is innocent and cute. In other words, we're opposites." It astounds me at times. "So my parents wouldn't question me."
He stops placing his hands on his hips. "Hm, so the King and Queen favor you more?"
Ah… My smile slowly disappears as I let out a breath. I wish that was the case. "If you're asking about favorites, I like to think they like both of us equally but I know that isn't true."
"What?"
"I think they like Astral more-"
"Your joking."
"No. I'm serious." A hand runs through my hair as I chew on my lip. "My mom prefers him more at least." The way she was always concerned about his well-being not to mention how she favors him.
"His Majesty definitely loves you more than him. I mean based on what I heard, he was super strict with your brother."
I nod. "Yea. For some reason he was. Maybe because he's next in line for the throne." That's most likely why Lucky doesn't like him that much. Not to mention the time when he slapped him.
"Alright, ready to go to the dungeon?" I ask after a minute of silence as I look next to me. I shouldn't dwell on this topic too much. Besides, does it actually matter who loves who more? They are my parents and I know they love me differently than my brother. Yea. Isn't there a saying where dads love their daughters more than their son and moms love their sons more? That totally fits our description. Plus, it could explain why Melody is so attached to her dad as well.
A pair of arms pull me into a loose hug as my eyes widen. What is he… I glance around the hall raising a brow as I can feel his hands on my back. Why is he hugging me?
"Um, Derek?"
My friend pulls away sporting a small smile. "You were feeling sad so I thought a little hug would make you feel better. Sorry if I made you uncomfortable."
So he thought…
"Ah," I shake my head patting his shoulder. "No. Don't worry about it. You're fine and thank you for the hug."
"You're welcome."
"Shall we check on her now?"
"I'm willing to bet she killed him because she wanted to."
I scoff at the being beside me rolling my eyes. "Yea right. Who in their right mind would kill for fun?"
"Remember Duke Edward?"
A shiver courses down my spine as I gulp. His lifeless eyes… "Aw come on, why did you have to remind me?" I spent days trying to get his face out of my head!
"You're afraid of him?"
"No." I cross my arms. "Not really afraid but he's creepy. Do you remember those dead eyes he stared at us with? And how he was so calm even up to the part where the guards dragged him out?" A calm individual like that shouldn't exist. Not that a being can't be calm but there's a line between calm and plain creepy.
"Are you saying you don't like your brother?"
"Huh?" My eyes widen again as he blinks. "When did I say that?"
"Just a few seconds ago."
…
Oh…
"Derek," I side a hand down my face with a groan. "That's different. Sure, he's calm. Sometimes a bit too calm and emotionless for my liking but that's just his personality."
"I could say that Edward is the same as well. It's just his personality. So what separates them?"
"Their actions. Edward did many things wrong and even plotted to take down The Royal Family but Astral hasn't done anything of that sort."
A smirk crosses his lips. "How do you know that? That brother of yours has multiple layers of facade and is secretive. How do you know he hasn't done bad things?"
Huh… when he puts it that way… I guess I really don't know him at all. He could be very well putting on an act for the lack of emotions he's experiencing. But nevertheless…
"He's my twin. Even though I can't relate with what he has been through," I probably can't relate even if I try my hardest. "He's my brother and yes, I'll admit. It's unsettling how he changes emotions so quickly and toys with others but at the end of the day, he's my family."
Green eyes widen as I smile a little. "And family is forever." Not to mention I love him to death.
Five more minutes later:
"Your Highness, Lord Derek," A guard bows before us as he unlocks the door.
"Is she unharmed?"
"Yes, My Lord. She's also in restraints according to your wishes."
"Good."
An arm blocks my path as the guard kneels down. "Your Highness, it could be dangerous."
"Why do you think I brought him along?"
My friend blinks for a few seconds as his expression contorts into a one of anger. "Hey!"
"What?" I shrug as my lips curve into a grin. "I would've picked my brother but he's unavailable so you're my next pick."
"So, I'm your meat shield?"
"Exactly! If anything happens to me, you wouldn't escape the wrath of my parents or brother so yes." The door opens. "If I'm going down, you're going down with me."
I wave a hand signaling the guard to stand outside as I come face to face with a blonde haired lady. Her blue eyes stare at a wall as she lets out a yawn. Thankfully her hands are tied or else who knows what she might do. "You two," Her legs walk up to the bars. "Let me out."
She's kidding right?
"Do you have short term memory?" I raise a brow at her. "Yesterday you murdered a being. Why would you ever think we would let you go without consequences?"
"Whatever." Her eyes roll clicking her tongue. "Are you going to let me out or not?"
Does she not understand English?
"You-"
"Why should we let you out when you took a life?" The guy besides me interrupts folding his arms over his chest. "Give us a suitable reason."
"Hm," Blue eyes narrow as her gaze scans across the room the back to us, specifically, her eyes lock onto mine. "First of all, tell me who you are."
Why is she…
I gulp as a shiver courses through my body at her emotionless stare. Why is her gaze so piercing? My friend pushes me gently behind him as he narrows his eyes. "What is it to you?"
She shrugs. "Curious that's all. Why would a princess come all the way here to visit a prisoner like me?"
How does she know of my rank?
"I don't need to explain my actions to you, murderer. All I need to know was why you killed that man. What did he do that was so wrong?"
"Oh. Do you perhaps mean that man who had many lured many innocent women in just to satisfy his needs and strangle them?" Her brow raises as my friend lets out a tiny gasp. "Do you mean that animal?"
He… so that guy was… I clench my fingers into a tight fist. "But that's still not a reason for you to-"
"If I hadn't killed him, more women would have fallen victim to him. I did what was best for this world."
"Murder is wrong." The guy beside me let's out a breath shaking his head. "No matter your reasoning behind it, it's still illegal."
"What are you saying?" She snaps with an annoyed look. "That I shouldn't have killed him? That I should've let him continue going around assaulting weak and vulnerable women? That I shouldn't have done anything and turn a blind eye to this injustice? Is that it?"
Hm… if I look at it from an ethical standpoint… murder is inherently wrong but then again… is it so wrong to kill a criminal? If he gets into the hands of the guards and is charged by my dad, he's going to die anyway so… no! I internally shake my head. A being doesn't have a right to take another's life. For an ordinary individual like her, killing someone is against the law. Death or life imprisonment will be her punishment.
"You do realize the odds aren't in your favor, right?" I snap from my thoughts as a scoff rings through the air.
"Does it look like I care?"
"My position still stands." I grit my teeth as her eyes lock into mine. "Even if what that guy did was illegal and wrong, it should be up to His Majesty to declare his punishment. Not you. As a commoner, you have absolutely no right to induce murder and could be faced with life imprisonment or even death as a result."
A sigh escapes her lips. "You have such a black and white view of the world, Princess. Even if His Majesty has known his crimes, do you think he would get punished that easily?"
"Yes. He would-"
"I think not for that guy I killed was an esteemed noble declared by the King himself."
What?
"Judging by your expression, you didn't know." Her lips smack in distaste. "His grandfathers and father fought in a war to defend this world years ago. They all died unfortunately leaving their power threatened by onlookers. As a result, the King granted him the title of Baron, making him untouchable by those around him as a payment for everything his family did to help this world."
Oh… that would explain why he did all of that. It's because he knew my dad wouldn't do anything to him.
"But surely His Majesty wouldn't turn a blind eye on his crimes." My friend speaks up. "I highly doubt that he-"
"Oh he won't but his grandfathers and father fought in the war so he has an advantage. He will most likely let him off with a warning or decrease the prison sentence."
"But-"
"You see? If I didn't kill him, according to his cruel and twisted nature, he'd get back to his crimes in no time."
"No way." My fingers clench my dress firmly as I narrow my eyes. "My dad would never do such a thing."
"Oh really?" She raises a brow. "Looks like you don't particularly get politics. Bummer."
What is her problem? Does she have something against The Royal Family? Actually, scratch that. I imprisoned her. Of course she's going to think bad about us.
"With the way you view the world," A sigh rings through my ears. "Why would he marry you of all individuals?" Huh? Marry? "I mean I get that it's a forced marriage but how do you two even get along when his way of thinking is so different than yours?"
He? Who's this 'He' she speaks of?
"I… don't understand."
"Prince Astral, your husband."
Husband?! My eyes widen as the guy beside me opens his mouth staring at her. Wait, wait, wait, why does she think he is my… oh. Princess. Prince. No wonder. But… everyone whose anyone knows our marriage didn't count so he 'divorced' me in a sense to marry his current wife. How does she not know that?
"I…" What am I supposed to say at this point. She really thinks that my twin brother is my husband. Sure, that happened at one point but revisiting it now is more or less disturbing. Hold on, I blink as I remember her words. Does she know him? "You know him?"
"Hm? Oh," The woman behind bars lets out a laugh. "He didn't tell you? I'm very close with him."
Close? My eyes narrow as she smirks. "How close?"
"Hm, why should I tell you?"
"I demand an answer." I gulp clenching the hem of my dress. "What do you mean by close?"
Close? Does she mean as in a close friend? If so, why bother saying close? Why not just say friend? If she's not a friend… could it be… they're involved romantically? No. No way, Astrana. Don't jump to conclusions!
"Tell me!" My voice rises as I glare at her. "What's your relationship with him?"
"I already told you. Your husband and I are very close with each other." Blue eyes pierce my being. "If you want to know the extent of our relationship, just ask him."
This woman… no way my brother is close with a being like her. She's lying, right? Yea. After all, he's not the type to start an affair when married.
(Flash):
"I don't understand what love is. In fact, I don't think I come to understand emotions at all."
(Flash)
Huh… actually… no, no, no, no, no! Stop it, Astrana. You know he's not that type of guy. Besides, why would he be into her if all individuals? My sister-in-law is so much better in every aspect. He would be a fool to cheat on her with this blonde commoner. Though I have to admit, she's decent in terms of her looks but her personality is a whole different story.
