"The Asguard are clones?!" Alexander asked when SG 1 returned from their lastest mission, trying to help the Asguard keep their technology out of Goa'uld hands. Thor, Jack's Asguard friend, had been captured and tortured, during the mission.
"Yes and nearing the end of their replicant cycle." Sam told him.
"Oh that's too bad. Would be nice if we had a way to help them. Our cloning technology is in its infancy. Hey wait, how do they get their consciousness into a new body? It's not copied right?"
"They transfer themselves into a new body. It's obviously more then just their intelligence and knowledge that gets transfered."
"I remember Jack telling me a story about a mission you guys had, where an alien made android doubles of you and copied your knowledge into them. Maybe even duplicated it. Have the Asguard ever considered using artificial bodies? At the very least, it would buy time to come up with a more permanent solution. We could introduce them to the alien that made the androids."
"I don't know if they have. I could have General Hammond pass the suggestion on to them. It's definitely a possibility that might help them. Good idea."
"Fresh perspective guy, that's me."
A few days later Alexander was called to General Hammond's office.
"I passed your suggestion on to the Asguard, they were intrigued, to use their word. It's something they hadn't considered. Leutenant, you have some down time coming up, correct?"
"Yes. SG 22 is on stand down while Dr. Matthews recovers from that allergic reaction to that flower. Who knew purple hives were a thing. He kind of resembles an Easter egg. Too bad he itches so bad. It would be funny otherwise."
"True. Anyway, SG 1 is going to Antarctica for a little while. A perfectly preserved human has been found near the Ancient outpost. Mr. Quinn is curious and so is Major Carter. If you like, you can go as well."
"A perfectly preserved human? Sounds familiar. I want to say, I hope she's not a cute, life sucking something and I don't why. That familiar feeling is annoying. Without context, it's meaningless."
"But interesting. Maybe it'll help you see something the others don't. You may have already been in this situation back in your original reality. So would you like to go along?"
"Yes, I would. Off the record, it'll give me a chance to talk to dad. Thor getting captured and tortured just after Daniel Ascended, isn't easy for him to deal with. That's two friends in a very short time that have been hurt and he felt helpless to help them."
"I agree, it's one of the reasons I'm offering to let you go along instead of making it an order. It's unofficial."
Alexander smiled. "Sneaky General, looking out for his people."
"I don't know what you're talking about, Leutenant. Dismissed." General Hammond with a smile.
Alexander left to find Colonel O'Neill.
"Hey, Colonel, I get to go with to Antarctica. It's one of those things that's twinging the familiarity button in my head."
"What makes it seem familiar?"
"Perfectly preserved female body. My immediate thought is, I hope it's not a life sucking monster."
"Carter's right, the strangest things come out of your subconscious. On the other hand, I won't dismiss that as a possiblity. I've seen too much I used to think was impossible. Get packed, I'll pick you up in two hours."
"I'll be ready."
Since they were alone in the car, as Sam was driving Teal'C and Jonas to the airport, Alexander took the opportunity to talk.
"Been a rough little while. First Daniel, then Thor. Two friends hurt and you couldn't help either one. Except you did, just not the way you wanted to."
"What are you talking about?"
"Daniel wanted to explore Ascention and you let him go, so he could. Thor wanted to help you, even if it cost him his life to do it. It hurt you to let them make their own choices. But they're not dead, they're just not here."
"You're trying to make me see it from a different point of view, aren't you?"
"Yes. They got hurt, but they got better. And you will see them again."
"That's true. We didn't have to bury them. I've buried too many people."
"I think I had a different problem, back where I came from. I don't think there were any bodies left for me to bury. Whatever we were at war with, didn't leave enough to bury."
"Damn."
"About sums it up, yeah."
A long plane ride later and they arrived at the Ancient outpost in Antarctica.
"Man, the cute, persevered potion seems accurate." Alexander said when he saw the body of the young woman laying on the table. When she turned out to be in suspended animation and recovering, Alexander was definitely wigged.
"Please don't let her turn out to be life sucking." He muttered.
Jonas' attempts to communicate with her were proving successful. She kept eyeing Alexander though.
"Why does she keep looking at me? Am I familiar some how to her?"
She finally managed to communicate that she could sense he wasn't a local.
"Oh, she can sense I'm not from this reality. That entity that took over Sam, said 'my signal didn't match the rest'. Weird and neat, that they could tell that."
"She must have some sort of heightened ability." Jonas commented. "Too bad we can't communicate better. She could explain it to us."
Then people started getting sick and they realized, she was carrying a disease. When she started healing people with her hands, it proved she had extra abilities. For some reason, Alexander didn't get sick, but Jack did.
"If I'm not sick, does that mean I have some kind of immunity? Maybe the General was right and I did encounter her in my original reality. Maybe I got sick and then got better. It's worth checking isn't it?"
"I agree." Sam said and blood was drawn.
"It's in your system, but it's inactive. Somehow, you didn't overcome it, so much as, neutralize it. We can work with is. If we can figure out how you neutralized it, we can duplicate it."
"You better find out fast." Jonas said, coming into the room. "Aiyana just died. She wore herself out trying to heal people and the disease overwhelmed her."
The scientists got work. Fortunately for Colonel O'Neill, they were able to figure it out and neutralized the disease within him. He would recover.
"Not so much life sucking, as life giving. I'm glad I was wrong. I would have liked to have gotten to know her. She's seemed like a good person." Alexander commented as they were flying back.
"Yes, she did. That's a good way to remember her. As a good person who tried to help." Jack said. The others agreed, it was a good way to remember her.
