When Doyle's exwife came to town, Cordelia found out something very interesting about the guy she was dating.

"You're part demon?!"

"Half. On my father's side. Brachen to be exact. We don't prey on people if you were wondering. About the only thing we do is give the Irish a bad name. We're the reason they have a reputation as being drunks. We need alcohol as a digestive aid. And alot of us live in Ireland. Don't know where we originally came from, but we've been part of the Irish for over a thousand years."

"I don't have to worry you're going to eat my brains, like the guy your ex was going to marry?"

"No. I promise I don't eat people, especially brains. Gross."

"Okay. If Buffy can date a dead body just because its got a soul cozying up to a demon, I can date a half demon. You haven't done anything weird. Aside from the way you dress."

Unfortunately, Cordelia didn't have long to enjoy her decision, not long after the Scrouge showed up in L.A

"What's the Scrouge?"

"Demon version of white supremacists. They hate mixed bloods and want to kill us all, along with humans. Pave the way for the old ones to come back." Doyle told her. "I messed up bad, a few years back. Some half bloods came to me for help. I was too afraid to help them. The Scrouge got them. I've regretted it ever since. I was a coward."

"Being afraid isn't the same as being a coward. You would have been what a teenager at the time? Believe me, I ran away plenty of times in Sunnydale. Monsters are scary, you can't help but be scared. So, what do we do now?"

"The people the Scrouge are after, they found a boat willing to take them to South America. They're going to try to form a colony down there. We keep them safe until the boat is ready to leave. About a day."

"Alright, and these are non prey on humans demons?"

"Yes."

"Then let's do it."

The three of them headed over to the apartment where the Lister demons were hiding, only to find they were too late.

"Damnit, the Scrouge found them! Where would they take them?" Doyle was going nuts wanting to help them.

"I know how I can find out." Angel said. "I can go undercover, pretend to join up. Once I know, then we can get them out."

It was agreed, it was the best plan they had. Angel discovered they were being held in the very boat they'd hired to take them to safety. And that the Scrouge had a kind of bomb that would kill anyone with even a drop of human blood in them.

"If I disconnect it, I can stop the bomb." Angel said.

"Without getting flash fried in the process?" Doyle asked and then punched him. "You're the one who can help people. The Powers chose to give you a purpose."

He turned to Cordelia and kissed her.

"Too bad we'll never know, if this is a face you could have learned to love." And showed her his demon face, before jumping across the wide span of space and pulling the cable apart. His flesh melted from his body.

"Doyle, no!" Cordelia yelled.

Angel was yelling as well, but to no avail. Doyle died protecting them, protecting her. She was the only full human there.

Later, back at Angel's office.

"Why does the universe keep taking the guys I like away from me? First Xander and now Doyle. I don't get it, Angel. They were good guys, neither of them deserves what's happened to them. Xander wished away and Doyle dead. Is it selfish of me to wonder if something doesn't want me to be happy?"

"No, it's normal. But I'm not ready to give up. I'm going to ask the Oracles for help. I'll see you later."

"I beseech the Knowing Ones. Bring back my friend."

"Why? So you can undo his noble death?"

"If that saves him, yes."

"He died, so others may live. Honor his death and his memory. Do not come to us with such a self serving request again."

"Wait, Doyle was my conduit to the Powers. Without him, I'm blind. What do I do now?"

"If that's true, then all will be revealed in time. When one door closes, another opens." And the Oracle waved his hand and opened the door and flung Angel out.

They soon found out what the Oracle had meant when not long after Wesley, having been kicked out of Sunnydale by Buffy and fired by the Watchers Council showed up in L.A.

Cordelia got a vision.

"Vision? Try brain splitting surround sound and living smell pictures in my head! Of all the things for Doyle to leave me with! Visions of a grey blobby thing isn't what I would have hoped for!"

"Grey blobby thing?" Angel asked.

"Yeah, I'll draw it for you."

A new client had Angel and Wesley trying to track down who was after him, only to realize, it was a trap.

"Barney's kidnapped Cordelia. Why?" Angel asked.

"It might have to do with this drawing she finished." Wesley showed it to Angel. Angel recognized it and they soon found that Cordelia was being made part of an auction. They wanted to sell her eyes. After Angel saved her, they returned to the office.

"I want a receipt! I want to return these visions to their sender. Who the Hell is responsible for this, Angel!"

"The visions come from the Powers, Cordelia. They're meant to be used to help people. People who would die otherwise." Angel told her.

"That means I have to do the right thing, doesn't it? Sometimes I would like to go back to being the oblivious, mean girl. But ignorance never appealed to me. Alright, I'll do what I can to help. I'm not required to like it, right?"

"No, I don't think that's in the job description."

"Better damn well not be."
