Today, three things happened. Colonel Jack O'Neill pinned 1st Leutenant bars on Alexander's shoulder boards, Alexander realized he'd now been in this reality for four years and Daniel Jackson was discovered living on a planet SG 1 gated to. He'd been there for three months and had no memory of them.

"The Ascended punished him for trying to protect Abydos from Anubis, didn't they?" Alexander said, when Jack told him.

"Probably. They're very big on their rules, for whatever reason. "

"And he really doesn't remember us?"

"No, but Frazer said when you first got here, the best way to treat amnesia, is to surround the person suffering from it with familiar people and things. Which is why we're trying to convince him to come home. But he's not buying it."

"You want me to try? I can relate."

"Yeah, Hammond's cleared you to go thru."

"I'll do my best, I promise."

"You always do."

Alexander stepped out of the Stargate onto a beautiful world with Ancient ruins on it. He would normally have been excited by them, but not today. Today he ignored them. He was here to see Daniel.

"Hi, I know you don't remember me, but we have something in common."

"And what would that be?"

"Amnesia. Four years ago, something happened to me. No one knows what it was. But I have no memories, beyond general knowledge and some dreams, of my life before four years ago. I'd very much like to know, what happened to me and what it is I've forgotten."

"That's why they sent you here, isn't? You know what I'm going thru."

"Yes. I know who you are, but you don't know who you are. Who you are is Daniel Jackson. You're like a younger brother to my father, Jack. A good friend to Sam and Teal'C and sort of an older brother kind of thing to me. We've missed you and we want you to come home. What you do is up to you, no one is going to force you to do anything. We just want you to know how we feel. You're family to us."

"What's your name?"

"Alexander Harris. 1st Leutenant as of today. U. S. Army. My dad's Air Force."

"Do I have any family, besides you guys?"

"Your parents died when you were a kid. You only knew one grandparent, Nick. He died a couple of years ago. You had a wife, but she was taken by a Goa'uld. Someone told you about the Goa'uld, didn't they?"

"Yes, parasites that control their hosts."

"Yes. The Goa'uld tried to kill you. She fought it from within. She was very brave and very strong, she bought enough time for Teal'C to save you, but she died. While that thing had control over her, it forced her to have a baby, Shi'fu. He's with the Ascended, so are her people, all of them. A Goa'uld named Anubis went after them. The one who Ascended you, Oma, she Ascended all of them. Saved them. You attacked Anubis, using the Powers you had as an Ascended like that, upset the others. That's why they sent you back."

"So you guys are the only family I have?"

"That's mostly true for all of us. Teal'C has a son, Ry'ac, Sam has a brother. Dad had another son, Charlie. I never knew Charlie. We have different mothers and Charlie died a few years before dad and I found each other. And that's it. You're a piece of our puzzle that has been missing. And now here you are, right in front of us and still just out of reach. Come home, Daniel. Let us help you find yourself and your place in our family again."

"I want to know who I am. I don't like not knowing. I'll come with you."

A fourth thing happened today. Daniel Jackson came home to the family that had missed him. He was welcomed back into their hearts and lives as though he had never left. His memories returned and with them came both grief and joy. His family got him through it.
