Friendships Last Forever: A Drabble by BananaCarrot-five

The Rookery, Ottery St. Catchpole

September 9, 1987

The sun shined on the dirigible plums planted in the front yard as Molly Weasley, accompanied by her daughter Ginny, walked up the steps of The Rookery. Molly had met the owners of this place at a party weeks before and wanted to introduce her daughter to their daughter. Molly knocked on the door and soon a blonde woman answered the door.

"Ah, hello Molly! And you must be Ginny! My Luna is excited to meet you! Come inside!"

Molly smiled and ushered Ginny inside. "Thank you, Pandora. It is lovely that you agreed to this. I am excited for both our girls."

Pandora smiled and disappeared upstairs for a minute before an excited six-year-old Luna Lovegood ran down the stairs, stopping in front of Ginny with a wide smile on her face.

"Hi!" Luna smiled brightly, "I'm Luna!" She stuck out her hand and stared at Ginny. Ginny smiled brightly and shook her hand vigorously happily. Luna's eyes widened and smiled ever wider. "Come! I wanna show you something!" She grabbed Ginny's hand, and the duo ran outside.

Molly chuckled at the kid's behavior and turned to Pandora. "Luna is such a sweet girl. I'm confident those two will make great friends."

Pandora smiled. "I know my Luna, and she is a happy spot for anyone who meets her. Ginny will be very happy."

Three Years Later

Luna and Ginny were drawing pictures on the floor in Ginny's room, when Luna sat up and stared at Ginny. Ginny noticed this quickly and also sat up to look at her.

"What's up, Luna?"

"Well, we've been best friends for years now, and I made something that for us to show that!" Luna smiled as she pulled out a small pouch, within the pouch contained two identical leather bracelets.

Ginny smiled and stuck her arm out, letting Luna attach the bracelet to her arm. Ginny helped Luna put on hers and then the two friends stood up and hugged tightly.

Luna beamed. "I am so happy! I can't wait to tell mum when I get home! Everything is amazing! Thank you, Ginny!"

"You're welcome, Luna! We're best friends!" Ginny replied.

That's when they heard the explosion.

Two Years later

Ginny was walking through the corridors of the Hogwarts Express, looking for her best friend. Luna was never the same after the explosion last year, and she was determined to find her best friend to help her get through it. She found Luna in a carriage by herself and sat with her. While the duo spoke a few times, the energy between them was not there like it used to be.

Ginny still remembered the day. She remembered hearing the explosion, the rush of panic everybody had running towards the site, the shock as the Rookery was destroyed, the look of dread on Luna's face as only her father, on his knees, sat defeated. It was the day Luna's mother died. Luna still wore the same expression that she did that day. Nothing she did managed to bring Luna out of her mood.

Ginny stepped out of the carriage to change and walked back in minutes later. She noticed that Luna had also changed and glanced at her wrist, where the bracelet was.

"You still wear it," Ginny commented. Luna nodded and glanced at Ginny.

"We are still best friends, I hope. Just, my mother..." Luna trailed off. Ginny sat next to her and hugged her silently.

Three Years Later

Everybody was in the infirmary, anxiously waiting for any word on Hermione's condition. Ginny sat next to her, sobbing silently. She saw Hermione as the older sister she never had. Ginny kept pushing her hair out of her face, and seeing her bracelet on her wrist continually reminded her of the other girl that she was worried about. Luna was right there, right next to her as everything went down that night. Yet, she had no clue where she was.

Harry was currently in an isolated room, letting his anger out on conjured objects. He blamed himself for the stupid decisions he made that caused Hermione to become injured. He put on a "I did the best I could" face for all of the adults but he knew it was all his fault. He lost his Godfather and he was close to losing his best friend. He was shocked when Luna found him, and they talked for several minutes before she hugged him.

"You should find Ginny, I know you two are close. Don't think I didn't see that bracelet on you and hers wrists." He smiled softly. Luna smiled and hugged Harry again. She then exited the room in search of Ginny.

Around the same time, Ginny exited the room where Hermione was sleeping. She only walked for a few minutes before she found Luna, wandering the halls aimlessly. Luna spotted her best friend and ran towards her. The duo hugged and stayed silent for several minutes. They stepped back and Ginny smiled at Luna.

"I don't need a bracelet to say that you are my best friend, but I've never taken it off. I'm so sorry for everything that happened and seeing Hermione unconscious made me think about everything that we haven't done together. I want to hang out with you more and do more funny things together, I want to be with you again, Luna."

Luna smiled and said, "Don't worry, Ginny, I always consider you my best friend. I gave you that bracelet, remember? Best friends forever. Now, let's go back and stay with Hermione. I know she is more of a sister to you then a friend."
