Battle for Wu Part 1
The advance of the Wu army was immediately noted by the peasants who were in the nearby villages and they began to wonder upon seeing the red banners and the emblem of the Sun family. Nevertheless they were also fearful for they knew what this meant and hurried to get inside their houses, desperate to avoid the upcoming war. As they reached the crest of a hill that allowed them to overlook the area below them, Sun Ce brought the army to a halt.
"Alright everyone, you know what to do, remember Zhou Yu's plan." He announced. "That's Niuzhu Garrison down there, before we attack it we'll need to attack their supply base."
Zhou Yu then added. "One of my reconnaissance units is somewhere here, they may be in trouble, if we find them they should be able to help us."
They all nodded and began forming up for the plan. Sun Quan, Shangxiang, the Qiaos, Lianshi and Cheng Pu would launch a feint attack on Niuzhu while Zhou Yu, Lu Meng and Zhou Tai would seek the reconnaissance unit, Sun Ce himself would take Huang Gai, Han Dang and Lu Su to attack the enemy supply base.
"I hope this works." Cheng Pu remarked. "We're taking a great gamble here...if it does however, Zhou Yu will certainly have proven herself."
Sun Quan smiled. "Zhou Yu may be young, Master Cheng Pu, but he is very skilled, he shouldn't be judged because of his youth."
Cheng Pu nodded and sighed. "We'll see, my Lord, we'll see."
Readying their weapons they made their way towards Niuzhu Garrison.
As this was going on, a number of soldiers that served Liu Yao, along with a few of his officers, were stationed in the supply base, readying them for transportation.
"Get these ready." One called Yu Mi ordered. "We need to make sure our army is prepared."
The soldiers around him quickened their pace, worried of what Yu Mi would do, or worse, Liu Yao himself, if they failed to complete their task. One of them stopped however, looking to the left, towards the back of the supply base.
"What…?"
"Hey!" Yu Mi snapped. "No slacking, you-!"
"My Lord, over there, I heard-" The man began.
Yu Mi scowled. "Excuses now. You need to-!"
He was cut off by the sound of yelling and his eyes widened in terror. At that moment Sun Ce led his men into the supply base and took the enemy by surprise, the other officer was cut down swiftly by Sun Ce himself as the others and their troops poured in and began fighting with Liu Yao's stunned forces.
"Nice try, but you're not gonna stop me from reclaiming my family's home." Sun Ce called out.
Yu Mi watched in terror as most of his men were cut down, others were even surrendering. He quickly ran, determined to escape only to see Han Dang bearing down on him. He cried out but was cut short by Han Dang taking him down and finally the Sun forces secured the supply base and were able to capture and add these supplies to their own, increasing their chances and morale for their future campaign.
Meanwhile, elsewhere within the lands of Wu, Zhou Yu and those aiding him were looking around for the missing scouts.
"So, Lord Zhou Yu, where exactly did your scouts go when you sent them off?" Lu Meng queried.
Zhou Yu shook his head. "They were to search for what Liu Yao might be up to, establish who his main allies are and if there is anything else we should be aware of."
Zhou Tai said nothing, he was a man of action, not words, and simply looked around.
Lu Meng pondered for a moment before suddenly speaking up. "Lord Zhou Yu, I was wondering, Lord Lu Su says that I am too focused on my military skills and am neglecting my studies, to be a strategist like him."
"Is that your wish?" Zhou Yu asked.
"I...Not at first, but, after seeing you and him and thinking about it...I think bettering myself and doing that would be to my benefit, would help me." Lu Meng replied. "I was wondering if you could teach me?"
Zhou Yu paused at that, a little taken aback. "Oh, I did not expect...well...let us try to secure these lands for Lord Sun Ce first, then when we have time to sit and think, then we'll see."
He smiled and nodded but stopped when Zhou Tai drew his blade suddenly.
"Lord Zhou Yu, your scouts, over there." He remarked in his deep gravelly voice.
Sure enough they saw the unit under attack by Liu Yao's men, apparently they had been found and were trying to escape, had managed to hide but had now been found. Quickly Zhou Yu and his unit charged into to save them, the element of surprise working to their advantage as they fell upon Liu Yao's men and the ensuring melee was firmly in their favour, knowing that the scouts discoveries were important, they'd finally get answers to what would help them in the upcoming battle.
Sun Ce smiled as he checked to make sure his army was rested and their new supplies were brought together with their current supplies, everything was getting organized and, thanks to what Zhou Yu's scouts had recovered, they had easily launched a sneak attack and secured Niuzhu Garrison, again some surrendered and others fled, while some fought to the death, the first step in the attack was over now and they held the garrison and had a base to work from now as they readied themselves. He was currently outside the garrison on his horse, observing things when he noticed a rider approaching him, wielding large twin rods as he rode down on Sun Ce, who immediately reacted by raising his Great Sickle and blocked the strike.
"Well, hello there!" He cried out with a smirk.
"So, you are Sun Ce." The man replied with a firm voice. "I have been waiting for this chance, you will not defeat Master Liu Yao."
They both pushed back against each other and soon began a fierce duel, striking each other but blocking and dodging easily, despite every effort by both men they were seemingly evenly matched.
"You're pretty good, I've never had this much fun." Sun Ce remarked. "Who are you?"
The man grunted. "I am Taishi Ci, I must admit, you are not quite what I expected either, but still-"
Before they could say anything else or fight further they found that they were backing off, breathing heavily, the sun had set and their respective armies had come to them and were watching them carefully.
Finally one of Taishi Ci's men stepped up.
"Lord Taishi Ci, Lord Liu Yao is demanding you return to your post at once, you were ordered not to face Sun Ce yet." He said.
"But I…" Taishi Ci blurted out before sighing. "Very well. You fight well, Sun Ce, we will meet again."
With that he and his men left while Sun Ce reassured the others he was fine as they made their way back to the garrison, as they did so, Sun Ce reflected on the duel and smiled.
'Taishi Ci...he is quite the warrior. I want to try and get him on our side, he'll be the perfect person to fight alongside us.'
With that thought he prepared for the next battle in his conquest of Jiangdong.
